I too learnt of this man oo late/ but when I come home from work and having abeer in front of my coal fire/put on my headphones and hey this lovely blues player is inmy room god bless rip micheal and thank you love to you all from england
I was shocked to hear of Michael's untimely passing. Like so many here, I got to see Michael perform at a place in Woonsocket RI called Chan's. The man was proof that not all blues guitarists are Stevie Ray clones, plus those heartfelt vocals! His sets that night at Chan's were great, and great fun to watch as well. Rock on, big guy! RIP
Never had the opportunity to see him in person, that loss is mine. His loss is everyones. A huge talent, his music will stand the test of time of that I have no doubt.
un choc d'apprendre la triste nouvelle ,apres qu'il nous ait donné tant de bonheur musical en France, respect a ce grand homme et merci pour ce partage R.I.P. Iron Man
Just came across your vid. I miss Michael too. By chance, I went to see him at a local bar around 2005 or so. I didn't know who he was or what he looked like. Turns out he was seated right next to me eating his dinner before the show. After his set, I was a fan. In 07, I was in the hospital for surgery and was pissed that it was scheduled when Michael was playing local again. My room phone rang and it was my brother holding the phone up to the stage so I could hear some Michael that night! In 2012, I had plans to go to a Blues fest that he was playing that summer. And then.......... So sad. We all miss the Iron Man!
I am sad to say I never got to see him in concert. In fact I didn't know who he was until this evening. He's now my favorite black bluesman. Please don't take that as a racist remark. Black bluesmen have something magical. Something profound in their playing. Of course you have white exceptions like Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Jeff Healey. But this guy was amazing. God bless those he left behind and who felt a hole in their heart when Michael passed away.
Mr. Toler, I'm an 65 yr old black brother, and I truly appreciate your "respect" comments on black bluesman. While "everybody" can get the blues...from the little baby wanting their bottle, to the teenage angst from puppy love. But black blues are simply deeper in our people because of 400 years of beat down. We still have the blues. Good day sir.
Everyone is most welcome, though I wish to God this wasn't really the last one ever. I film and share because of love for the music/artist - my love for this artist was huge. RIP Iron Man, you'll never be forgotten.
thanks for this video, I know I'm being selfish here, but I never got a chance to see Mike and this makes me even sadder. May God enjoy Mike's music all day, RIP Iron Man. May God grant his family peace .......
You know, I went to the concert the day before this one: he played in Torino, Italy, and it has been a wonderful night. My fiancé and I cried so much when we had the news. RIP MICHAEL. We miss you.
I saw and talked blues with the Big Man in Boca Raton Florida 2/2012 at a gig just prior to the band going to Europe, I was floored when I heard the news, what a loss. God must have needed and extra player for his blues band with SRV,Luther etc...
he was such a great singer aswell as guitarist rip iron man say hello to gary moore and rory gallagher and jeff healy and all the other great blues guitarists hope you are all jamming up there❤❤❤❤❤❤
If I may be so bold, you are very welcome. Michael was a real pleasure to seee perform on stage; very strong vocals and that guitar technique was something you just had to shake your head at . . . like they say, you gota feel it and he certainly did. Much love and heartfelt condolences from all here in RI who got to see him on stage.
I’m sorry 😢 I just discovered his wonderful style of blues he’s the reason I can’t go a day with out the blues I’m sad he’s gone and sad I took so long to feel the blues.
R.I.P. Michael, it was a honor to have met and have dinner with you, Wayne, Popcorn, and at the time your bass player Don, you may be gone, but your music will last forever...
REST IN PARADISE IRON MAN, YOUR MUSIC LIVES ON 4EVER, HEARD YOU SEVERAL TIMES IN KC, AWESOME PERFORMANCE AT THE GRAND EMPORIUM WHERE YOU WALKED ACROSS THE BAR WITH YOUR GUITAR, WOW!!!!!
I was lucky enough to catch Michael at Chan's in Pawtucket, RI in 2009. He played for 4 hours with a 30 minute break in between sets. It was one of the best blues performances I ever saw. He returned to Chan's a couple of years later. I still regret missing him that second time.
Missed his gig in Munich. Was shocked about the news a few days later. Wish you to keep strong and to have belief in his and all music to console, when somebody has to leave us.
Michael was one of the most soulful guitarist I've ever see I have seen many in my 22 years in Houston. Hundreds of.concerts. Johnny Winter came in Liberty Hall one nite right as they were gonna close. Rocky Hill led him in a ND they locked the door and every body jammed till 4:00 A.M. .He was special
MICHAEL BURKS, such a superb player, the feel and tone are just so good, his voice was also special, just a great bluesman, this performance is fantastic!!!!
Thank you for uploading the videos. I just spent time backstage with Mike, Chuck and the band down at Skipper's in Tampa when they were here a few weeks back. Heart and soul of a lion, this guy. Mike was one of the best and it was an honor to have known him for the last 4-5 years. RIP Mike "IRONMAN" Burks. The heavenly band just got much better!!!!
There are two guitar players that I can listen to, all day every day. I never tire of either one of them. Both were taken way to early. Michael Burks and Tommy Bolin. May you both RIP.
Thank you for sharing these videos and for shooting these as well. While one never knows the value a moment captured may have - know sharing this is priceless. Many thanks. R.I.P. Michael K. Burks.
...very sad! ...but at least you where there! ...you captured what was unfortunately to be this fabulous musical, video graphical epitaph of someone that you admired and loved so much! ...if you missed this gig for what ever mundane reason imagine how you have felt ...forever saying 'i knew i should have gone' ...in death there is so much that is said in regret ...cherish this 19 minutes of a life so well lived! ...my deepest condolences to all Michael's loved ones and friends and fans! R.I.P.
Saw him perform a few times and can honestly say there is no one like him. He always gave it his all. If 10-15 seconds could sum up the feeling he gave me I would refer you to 6:06. I cried when he left and I'd cry if he came back home.
Does anyone know the slow blues song he starts playing at the 6:50 mins mark??? Is that one of his tunes or a cover? Very nice tasty licks on this one.

2 weeks before we were married he played Miss Mercy for my fiance and I. 13 years later she still goes by Miss Mercy. RIP and Godspeed Michael.
