You’ve got a brilliant tent there Liam for 200 quid. I bought the same tent, same colour in 2007 from the long-gone Alpenstock in Stockport, for £750 with discount, including a footprint. I first used it for a car camp around the Outer Hebrides with my two boys and for about 10 years after. It faded eventually just the same as yours, but hadn’t seen that many nights of use, it’s just a problem with that colour, like a 1980s red Vauxhall Astra! It’s the perfect campsite/bushcraft/basecamp tent, where everyone can gather to eat/socialise, even if they have their own tents to sleep in. If you did get hold of a footprint then you could detach the inner and push it back to create a gathering space that Billy Smart’s circus would be envious of! It would also be ideal to make a hot tent out of, if you’re handy at sewing. For general use I’d be surprised if the sun damage made any practical difference to its strength - it’s designed for Arctic expeditions for Gawd’s sake, so losing maybe 10% of its strength is insignificant. I miss mine, having sold it on eBay 7 or so years ago for £500, with no repairs or physical damage. I’ve now got several tents for wild camping, including 3 Hillebergs (the Nallo 2, the ‘Soulo killer’ being my favourite 😉. Whatever you do, don’t sell it!
Possibly used by British Antarctic Survey or a company that Ski Tours crossing Greenland etc. Clean the Flysheet in Nikwax Tech Wash , make good any repairs, Silicon the repairs and the Inside of the Groundsheet Taped seams, then spray Flysheet and inside of Groundsheet with Nikwax Tent and Solar Proof. Replace the lower Tent pole that has quite a bend in with new section and don't forget to connect the Door bands that run across ground. for the money paid still got a serviceable Tent that would take a storm or two, use it as an Base camp Tent in winter / family Tent, got a bargain there with some travel history.
Not sure we you got it from but looks like the tent I used to guide a double Greenland crossing and a climbing trip in Antartica,!! Will try and find a photo
A new fly sheet, new poles and a new inner...... Sounds like Triggers broom😂 as for a name, maybe you could try a night or two in the pink tunnel😂 take care Liam and God bless you mate 💪😊🙏
Get over the disappointment fella of it not being a bargain, you have paid 200 quid and it could end up being the best 200quid you have invested❤, great video
That's definitely been used as a base tent for a fair period of time above the snow line. The snow has built up around the base and protected the fabric low down. Being pitched altitude the UV rays are stronger as well. It will definitely have affected the strength but by how much who knows. Great find though.
No its really not - sadly in the outdoors, performance is not about how something looks or its colour, its about performance in adverse conditions, tensile strength and the amount of physical UV damage its taken from high altitude - there are tell tale markers with this tent if you know what your looking at. Staining the material will not make it "new" again. Very dangerous advice. Purely letting you know encase you are thinking of doing the same, or anyone reading this and thinking it will make it safe or new.
Agree , the tent looks dry though a good coating of fabsil would revive it somewhat . I would imagine hilleberg know about fabrics so have built uv effects into the equation , however there is no doubt this has been around the clock . Very best wishes !
This is brilliant! As soon as you said about it doing the rounds and then going on Ebay, I knew the rent you were going to pull out…I’d been watching it too and was curious! Can’t wait to finish the video! 😂
Give it a good clean with a mild cleaner, maybe check seams and apply seam sealer were needed and cover it with a few coats of Fabsil to waterproof and UV protect it. Use it for campsites, base camp, snow winter camp with mates and split weight between ya
Liam, that tent is ace, a sewing machine, and heat-resistant material will make a fantastic hot tent and a brilliant video. Go for it lad, love the city comment 😅
I have a Vango Omega 600XL, which I keep as a Vehicle emergency Bug Out tent along with a Winnerwell Woodlander Medium stove and a Winerwell stove jack. Total cost was about £400 for the tent and stove. Converting the Hilleberg into a hot tent sounds like an excellent idea.
Send it alpkit in ambleside to wash, seem seal it, fabsil gold it with a few coats, jobs a golden the pink pipes ready to go. Make a how to video on seen sealing etc happy days
Will be perfect as a hot tent Liam. No worries about damaging it either as it's damaged already!! I converted my NatureHike Opalus 2 (like Lonewolf902 did) and it's half the size of this Hillie and it's fine and dandy. 👍 The Opalus 2/3 is VERY similar to this.
Use the Hilliberg as a base camp then take a smaller backpacking one on your 'night on a mountain' trips then return to the Hilliberg to sort out your supplies, fresh garments etc ready for your next mountain.
Take it somewhere where you can camp near the motor and when you know it will rain and see how it stands up. If it leaks, sell it on. If it doesn't and there is no delamination. Keep it.
Think I seen that pop up on eBay a few times lol, red definitely fades more than other colours as it absorbs more of the UV light I believe blue is best for not absorbing it, I have seen red a Berghaus tent outside gooutdoors etc the slightly less faded that spent a year or so outside.
The only down side of a Spendybergs tent is the stress of keeping it perfect ? you have bypassed that , the stove hot tent would be my choice brilliant idea .
I wouldn’t worry about the poles , the inner is good and the flysheet I would reproof it , that is still a good tent , I guess it just depends if you actually have a use for it
Would make a mega hot tent! conversion would be easy enough, get some fabric dyes and camo it up & re-waterproof... BBB sat playing cards middle of winter in't woods 👌 ( + vids of the conversion process )
What about buying some tent care stuff for the fly sheet or something to bring the colour back. If it's ever possible...?! I always care for my hilleberg's... and they will take care of you in the storms and weather
give it a good reproofing and take it out with the bushcraft boys and give it a good test in some wind and rain , but not too far away just incase it does fail
Yeah you have definitely got yourself another mortgage, But they are great tent's, I mean look its been at the bottom of base camp for at least 5 years. And it's still rocking.and that is a great idea for hot tent camping, and cycling you'll definitely get 4 bikes in there, can't wait to see you take you out though. Cheers take care of yourself and see you soon Alan 💯👍
Longer wavelength visible light (like red) is more toward the the infrared end of the visible spectrum and therefore has less energy. Because of their greater energy, the shorter wavelengths of light cause more “bleaching” of the pigments in the paint and more fading.
Still my favourite channel pal top Monday night watching love it and well done with the 25k subscribers 😊 keep the tent mate and use it on less risky camps decent size and will do a job defo 😊
Still a bargain that Liam, i dont know if the seams are taped on this model, but check the seams over, repair as nesaccery and give it a good coat of fabsil to add water repellency and stop any further UV degradation. It should be good for Basecamp use in the UK, it was originally designed for arctic conditions, so it should still cope well with UK conditions 👍🏻 run an iron, with grease proof paper between the iron and groundsheet to re attach the seam tape...(Ive got a video on my channel on how to do it 😉)
That tens has been well loved and used and your right the history of where it’s been would be interesting If you wanna big tent we used to have a khyam Indiana 8 know that was a huge beast 😮
Can you reproof the fly? Redo the dwr? You are a machine but that things way too big to take out solo mate! Winter canping sounds the best idea. Especially if it's multi day. You'd be greatfulnof the space. I reckon you could insert a flue site.
Free party on moors, chill out vestibule and trance in main room. Call it clockwork orange, flyer tod and hebden and they will come. Lay on some cans of Red stripe, magic mushrooms etc you'll make a profit on the 200 bar outlay no probs mush🎉 🥳 🔊🔊🕺
Donate it to your local Scouts. They'll freakin love it. Loads of life left in that for the Cubs and Scouts. Maybe inspire the next lot of Good Blokes Outdoors!
I reckon that tent has seen either some polar action or really high altitude stuff. The snow skirts and the extreme fading suggests high UV damage, especially prevalent at the poles and higher altitudes. It was deffo worth a punt for £200 bangers. ATB
Keepa deffo! Bargain Liam! It might just need some tlc. You know the score on that one. Nikwax do some good treatments. You've got yourself a bargain I reckon, congrats mate.
It’s gone to a few festivals in the sun is my guess. Whoever owned it cared enough to do a few decent repairs though. Maybe a few kids in a week long camp site somewhere sunny down south, hence the holes, hence the father’s sound repairs.
Great review. I wouldn’t spend any money on it. Just use it the way it is until it fails, but honestly it’s stronger than you think. The fading is purely cosmetic.
ehhh its really not purely cosmetic unfortunately, esp with the UV level this tent has been in (there are alot of tell tale markers if you know what your looking for).
That's a whopper kidder! Dunno about names for her, but the next time you're in the Lakes, give us a shout and my two walking mates and me will join you. We'll only have to bring a sleeping bag ! Yeah, like a lot of comments here it's gonna be a site/base camp tent. Too big and heavy to lug around. Cheers, Ozzy.
Loving the videos mate, good to see a fellow bradfordIan doing well on youtube, look forward to see how the tent holds up in real life 😀 hot tent idea a good idea 👍🏻 The hillbilly berg
I'd be tempted to stick it in front of a wind machine and test it. if it stands up to the proper windspeed - would be interesting to see. thats been to somewhere like North Africa I reckon.
Word of the day is "faded" and name of the tent should be Colin or (Colin the caterpillar) if you dare to risk copyright infringements lol #marksandspenors , great videos mate , looking forward to you next wild adventure 🤙
Get out in the winter ❄️ Have an adventure at the very least. Bivy backup you will be golden mate. Maybe do a waterproof check on it before you go. Reproof it if needed and compare the before and after. Do hilleberg recommend reproofing there tents ?
So many suggestions on what to do with this tent, I won't add any more. I will look forward to seeing what you do with it though, guaranteed to be entertaining 😁
Hilleberg is the best tent maker of all time IMO.. I guess I got a bit giddy as a Hilleberg fan boy when I seen this for sale. 🥴
Great base tent, think you've got a good buy. I use an old Vango Force 10 for my base tent with a double pad and double sleeping bag, well comfy.
You’ve got a brilliant tent there Liam for 200 quid. I bought the same tent, same colour in 2007 from the long-gone Alpenstock in Stockport, for £750 with discount, including a footprint. Congratulations on getting over 25K subscribers kid. I’ve been hooked since the roundabout stealth camp. Best channel on TH-cam.
Same 👊🏻
Thank you, getting there slowly but surely 🙌🏻
Yeh absolutely
Ha that video made me laugh at the time! Seems like an age ago now that.
I agree,and same for me.
I'm hooked
Liam is a LEGEND!!
Congratulations Liam on your second house!😂
Not sure we you got it from but looks like the tent I used to guide a double Greenland crossing and a climbing trip in Antartica,!! Will try and find a photo
I won it on ebay, i’d love to hear more and see the photos! message me on instagram @goodblokeoutdoors or on facebook
A new fly sheet, new poles and a new inner...... Sounds like Triggers broom😂 as for a name, maybe you could try a night or two in the pink tunnel😂 take care Liam and God bless you mate 💪😊🙏
Tents had more nights out than George Best
😂😂 fs
😂
Get over the disappointment fella of it not being a bargain, you have paid 200 quid and it could end up being the best 200quid you have invested❤, great video

Being pitched altitude the UV rays are stronger as well. It will definitely have affected the strength but by how much who knows. Great find though.
Get a large barrel fill with red die dump the outer in. Then re-waterproof. It's all good to go again and brand new.
It's difficult dying synthetic fibres
No its really not - sadly in the outdoors, performance is not about how something looks or its colour, its about performance in adverse conditions, tensile strength and the amount of physical UV damage its taken from high altitude - there are tell tale markers with this tent if you know what your looking at. Can’t wait to finish the video! 😂
That tents been a display model left out in the sun for years 👍
to be that faded in this country its probably an ex display model and left up outside probably never been camped in maybe
You could try 24 hours in a tent with this bad boi, loads of room for a small portable generator, tv n console 😂
A little glamping.
A great winter car camping tent
I would see what the internet says about dying it red again and re proof it. Another great video fella👍🏽
Cool video, something different…sounds like Del-Boy has sold you the tent, call it Rodney. 😂
Give it a good clean with a mild cleaner, maybe check seams and apply seam sealer were needed and cover it with a few coats of Fabsil to waterproof and UV protect it. Use it for campsites, base camp, snow winter camp with mates and split weight between ya

Deffo a base camp tent … drive in with all your home comforts, pitch up and day hike. She’s definitely called Hilda (Pink Hilda) 😊
The Hilleberg Keron 4GT tunnel tent was introduced in 1980.
Send it alpkit in ambleside to wash, seem seal it, fabsil gold it with a few coats, jobs a golden the pink pipes ready to go. Make a how to video on seen sealing etc happy days
Keep it and use it!!
You can easily recover the costs of the tent by making more content with it. It's time to go camping.
By far the best outdoor channel on youtube! Keep them up lad
Seam seal and use on campsite and low land pitching…. Like the hot tent idea👍
Forget what hilleberg say😅 your wisdom is far beyond theirs. Go on an absolute MISSION 😂
Use the Hilliberg as a base camp then take a smaller backpacking one on your 'night on a mountain' trips then return to the Hilliberg to sort out your supplies, fresh garments etc ready for your next mountain.
If I got a tent of that size, I'd need to buy more friends - and that's the expensive part.
Take it somewhere where you can camp near the motor and when you know it will rain and see how it stands up.
If it leaks, sell it on. If it doesn't and there is no delamination. Keep it.
I love Hilleberg Tent. Have 3 of them😊😊😊
Best tents ever 😍

Mate, that's a brilliant glamping tent for camping from the car.

I wouldn’t worry about the poles , the inner is good and the flysheet I would reproof it , that is still a good tent , I guess it just depends if you actually have a use for it
Hiya Liam, Stick it in the washer with some fabric dye. Perhaps consider a tie-dye effect and create something really unique.
Google "This tent looks like it's 35 and ready to settle down" 😂 definitely I'd relist it or hot tent mod it. Be a great hot tent
Turn it into a hot tent 🔥 ⛺️
Bike packing is a great idea. Perfect for a three man mission, especially for a winter snow camp.
You could clean it with nikwax solar wash, then nikwax solar proof to add strength to the old fly mate, just an idea.
Great video Liam, some ideas with the tent. Its a big tent, heavy. We'll see what its good for. Fair play.
Would make a mega hot tent! conversion would be easy enough, get some fabric dyes and camo it up & re-waterproof... BBB sat playing cards middle of winter in't woods 👌 ( + vids of the conversion process )
Just started to watch your videos. Absolutely brilliant. Can’t get enough.

It looks like fire!! So hot tent defo call it Hot Hilda lol ❤️🔥
Keep it defo,
You can pitch yoru Soulo inside
Probably could!

Bradford Bastards ....pmsl love it !! Comedy gold love the vids man !!
Hi From Australia you can buy a bike trailer for all your baggage mate and they are cheap and sturdy!
Looks like a Big Agnes after one night in the Highlands to me, except the poles are still in one piece, kinda 😁
Still a bargain that Liam, i dont know if the seams are taped on this model, but check the seams over, repair as nesaccery and give it a good coat of fabsil to add water repellency and stop any further UV degradation. Defo do the hot tent. Would be great in the woods during winter.

Ok liam you’ve got enough room for us all mate? See you on the next camp.💯🤦🏻⛺️🏴

🤣🤣🤣 go on son, two trees is all you need. DD XL
One tree hill is a different scenario.
Yah cheeky bast 🤣🤣
Hi new subscriber love your videos you could hold a wedding reception in that tent😂
behold, the power of branding ladies and gentlemen. hot tent sounds like a great plan - call it "the cozy fan tooti"
I reckon that tent has seen either some polar action or really high altitude stuff. The snow skirts and the extreme fading suggests high UV damage, especially prevalent at the poles and higher altitudes. It was deffo worth a punt for £200 bangers. ATB
Bike camping seems a obvious choice, hot tenting also for winter base camp. My hot tent stove (not used in a tent) also has an oven attached!
Love it mate 👌 make a class dodgy off piste casino on a weekend 🤣👍
The thing you use to run a stove pipe through your tent wall is called a stove jack.
Roof tent on a national express maybe?🤣 cheers Liam, great video.
Keepa deffo! Bargain Liam! It might just need some tlc. You know the score on that one. Nikwax do some good treatments. You've got yourself a bargain I reckon, congrats mate.
The tent fabrics typically gets destroyed by uv rays.. you might wake up to find it's disintegrated and blown away in small bits
Keep and bike camp. Great content
It’s gone to a few festivals in the sun is my guess. Whoever owned it cared enough to do a few decent repairs though. Maybe a few kids in a week long camp site somewhere sunny down south, hence the holes, hence the father’s sound repairs.
YES
Keep 'The Mansion' for your bad boys biking trips, only 1 tent required
Great review. I wouldn’t spend any money on it. Just use it the way it is until it fails, but honestly it’s stronger than you think. The fading is purely cosmetic.
ehhh its really not purely cosmetic unfortunately, esp with the UV level this tent has been in (there are alot of tell tale markers if you know what your looking for).
My venerable Khyam quick erect tent is at least 25 years old, as faded as that, but still does the job.
It was probably pitched most of the year somewhere sunny.
Gaz Yorkshire.
That's a whopper kidder! Dunno about names for her, but the next time you're in the Lakes, give us a shout and my two walking mates and me will join you. We'll only have to bring a sleeping bag ! That tent needs to do a summit camp! In winter.
Loving the videos mate, good to see a fellow bradfordIan doing well on youtube, look forward to see how the tent holds up in real life 😀 hot tent idea a good idea 👍🏻 The hillbilly berg
Keep it , will be good for a long stay say on a beech ....make a good party tent :)
I'd be tempted to stick it in front of a wind machine and test it. if it stands up to the proper windspeed - would be interesting to see. thats been to somewhere like North Africa I reckon.
Call him Burnie, cause he's sunburnt. And make it a hot tent! It's so big a bit tent would be awesome.
Word of the day is "faded" and name of the tent should be Colin or (Colin the caterpillar) if you dare to risk copyright infringements lol #marksandspenors , great videos mate , looking forward to you next wild adventure 🤙
Use it until it falls apart. Cut it in squares, sign them, and give them away to subscribers.
Get out in the winter ❄️ Have an adventure at the very least. Bivy backup you will be golden mate. Maybe do a waterproof check on it before you go. Reproof it if needed and compare the before and after. Do hilleberg recommend reproofing there tents ?
I love it...its a keeper...will you be testing it in the rain? The size is great...
Fantastic
I think that the thumb nail question answers itself!
I'm sure I see that on hilleburg tents for sale a while back
So many suggestions on what to do with this tent, I won't add any more.
I will look forward to seeing what you do with it though, guaranteed to be entertaining 😁
Keep it, plenty of good tunes are played on an old fiddle. 😂. Or rent it out as an Air BnB
Nice tent, big af! Looks likes big slug lol 😊
Return it as unsuitable to ebay, £200 for that is not good mate 🤷♂️
