  • West bound on the Warrego Highway at 3.30am, overtaking a slower truck. No oncoming traffic to worry about. A flash of his high beam lets me know I'm past and it's ok to come back over to our lane.

What's the bet the other Mother didn't even slow down a bit to save a potential catastrophe.

No, he didn't slow down at all. Luckily, I got past without any oncoming traffic.

Sorry but why would he slow down and loose more road speed? That’s the argument that the transport industry has used for decades to cover things like travelling too close etc etc “got to keep up the road speed”. Maybe instead vehicles that can’t maintain their legal road speed on flat roads at their legal weight should be removed from the roads? And if it’s because the drivers are not competent enough to drive at their legal weight speed limit then they are removed as well! And I’m talking on highways & allowing for local conditions like weather, environmental, traffic etc.

So my question is what speed was he doing and what speed were you doing?

Ken, he was doing about 93 or 4 and I was doing 98. My truck wouldn't do any more than that on flat ground.

@ so about 4 kilometres an hour difference? Don’t know mate but when I drove semi’s I would not have attempted that move in those conditions, and yes I drove trucks that battled to get to 100 on the flat and some geared to be a bit faster. Just saying cheers

When there is good communication on the UHF and good visibility in the dark for many kms, there's no problem because we are working together. Isn't that how we as drivers should be cooperating with each other?

@ if it all comes together yes, but sadly that’s not always the case! Personally if it were me, I would have backed off and waited for a better & safer opportunity to pass. Cheers

That was the best opportunity to overtake. Communication and cooperation. Well in excess of 5 klms of clear visibility with nothing in the shute on a road regularly travelled. With 46 years experience under my belt, I'm pretty sure I know what I'm doing. You weren't there, you don't know what road I was on. You are entitled to your opinion, but you cannot make judgement on my decisions and/or actions from what you see in a short video like this.
