Something I've found almost immediately refreshing after entering the Lutheran tradition is the kind of access and continuity it has with the medieval and early church that isn't present in American Evangelicalism. Really enjoyed the conversation!
Great discussion, I found this fascinating. I definitely relate to the comments at the end about how older Christian piety seems to grasp something that we're missing today in terms of the physical. Whenever I try to talk to my evangelical friends and family about the sacraments, their responses are either "I don't care how it works because I'm saved either way" or "It must just be a symbol because there's no way a physical thing can affect me spiritually." I think Dr. Sarah Irving-Stonebraker describes this well in her book Priests of History in terms of losing our sense of the transcendental.

I'm another confessional Lutheran that loves Knights of the old Republic. I thought I was the only one.

@@WizardOfTheDezert I am fairly obsessed with KOTOR and KOTOR II. Also a big fan of Mass Effect, Halo, and Arkham.

KOTOR was awesome. I still haven't started on KOTOR 2, as I've been way too busy to commit time to it. Maybe when I'm retired. 😅
