Love seeing someone using youtube the way it should be done.
Happy dead dad day. I lost my dad 8 years ago now. Like you say youve got to stay happy and positive or it isnt long before you are heading for a dark place.
Happy anniversary, Nick. You're a good lad and we all appreciate you. I'm sure your family does too.
Good on you looking after your Bro, agree wouldn’t be charging immediate family.
Happy Anniversary!
solar installations, smart chargers, feeding into the grid, separate, battery banks
this is starting to feel like Subnautica and other resource management games where "it just works" and it's a nice little box.
Remember that materials you gather are the property of the Alterra corporation.
You will be liable to reimburse the full market price. Your current bill stands at 3 million credits.
Actually you want 3 pairs.
1) tails
2) solar
3) battery circuit
Happy anniversary, great video. Thank you.
I charge family fuel costs, i don't charge for my time. (lots of my family live 30+ miles away). they pay materials, and fuel. and the tea tax... but like you, if i get a product cheap/free, they get it for the same price
Here I'm the USA bit that's my favorite step stool. Im 6"4 and don't need much help reaching light fixture and ceiling but it makes things much more comfortable. I also have a size 14 shoe us and that's one of the few stools I don't feel cramped on. Also since we had a few ladders and work platforms collapse on us (280lbs big boy) any stool or ladder we use has to be IAA 375lbs rated or it goes in the trash. It's a company rule now safety first! Glad someone enjoys that step stool as much as I do.
I’m very disappointed that you didn’t shout” bang” in your brothers ear as he plugged the car in for the first time!
Nick, because your using the full CAT5 cable you could use the two remaining pairs to hardwire the charger rather than connecting over WiFi. It'll only be a 100 Mbps connection rather than 1 Gbps when you use all 4 pairs but plenty fast enough for the charger. Just something to know going forward should you ever need to fit a charger further away
Nice work for helping out your family! Totally agree 👍
Congrats on your 5th year anniversary of TH-cam, great achievement, Nick, your dad would be proud . Family is important I would always do it free. ⚡️👊
Happy Anniversary Nick, thank you for all the entertainment
Never charge family and if I do private work for friends that’s free too.
Bless yer Nick you’re a good man
You could use the third CT terminal to put one on the battery storage as well, which allows the Zappi to do things like trying to avoid discharging it etc
we did after the video mate, found a spare ct clamp in the van
If they end up switching onto the Octopus Intelligent Go EV tariff then they’ll probably not be able to avoid the battery draining into the car during any of the smart slots. The avoid drain setting won’t really work for that.
Edit: just watched the end of the video. Fast charging outside of whenever the battery is set to charge from the grid is going to drain the battery, all the Zappi can do to try and avoid it is reduce the charge rate which isn’t going to be what you want.
First class family ethics, respect.
Probably the best N Bundy video I’ve watched 👏 and when I was working I only charged family for materials if I had to buy
Classic brothers, never paying their way 😆😆 clean looking install 👨🍳
Your dad will be proud Nick.
One love YNWA
Happy dead dad day Sir Nick. And happy YT anniversary. Those plastic cable tie holders look great. Take care. Love ya. Bye
#Legend, Wasn't sure if i needed to say sorry, or congratulations..... Top man
To fix solar assistent go to configuration, advanced and change the power settings for grid, solar and battery.
Happy anniversary! Just a comment, with battery systems you should put a CT on the battery circuit also. Then with a third party battery set the grid export limit to 150w. This will stop the Zappi draining the battery
You always look after family, there everything.
Happy dead dad day! Think I might have to do this with my brother - we most my dad 11 years ago. Anyway, great vid, love the setup - I'm about to have something similar solar wise and in future an EV (ducting going in, ready for underground cable pull). With your videos, I've been able, in conjunction with my local sparky, design the system I want. Thanks for all the informative video's. I plan to automate it all with Home Assistant while on Octopus Agile tariff - something your brother might be interested in
Fair play , would be the same with siblings and parents, everyone else don't as it often ends up badly. I wouldn't ask a cousin to do something for less than full market rate and tbh just knowing someone who is professional , competant and reliable these days is worth so much more than any cash discount .
I never charge for doing stuff for my family. Each to their own, I guess. But if I'm there all day, I do expect to be fed and watered. 😊
Happy dead dad day he would be proud of you Nick. Congratulations on your 5th anniversary as well keep up the good work mate.👏🏻👏🏻
i felt that pain dropping the rubber and losing it
The most important thing is to manage expectations. I just had a friend who was shocked that I charged him for a board change, so I went ahead and wrote a Mate's Rates document. I have sent it out to another friend already, and they find it very fair.
Congratulations on the success of your channel. And wishing you all well as you remember your father. 😊 We've just passed 9 years since our father died, wasn't the most er... tranquil relationship between him and me. I'm unequivocally grateful every day for our marvellous mother still being with us and well.
Have to pull you up on your feline etiquette though, "Mr Cat" indeed! What you meant to say, of course, is "please forgive my impertinence, your majesty".
I love how you are about your dad, I lost my dad when I was 10 and I joke about it and I get told off 😂 but in my head if you don't laugh about it you cry instead 🤷
My commiserations that's a tough age to lose a parenf. My dad died of dementia so frankly it was a relief to all including my mother and so, if i remembered the date, which i don't, it would be an ironically happy day. Stay happy !
It's a valid way to deal with grief and stress.
So that is what a real Bundy beard looks like :) I agree humour is the best way I have to deal with things, when my mother died of cancer and was pronounced dead by the doctor I replied "What have you done, she was alright a minute ago". The look on the doctors face was a picture.
The point the builder made, about how friends/family (does anyone say Family before friends?) should be charged and promoting you, it doesn't have to be that way, you could still do free/discounted, and hopefully they will start promoting your work.
Hey Nick…..happy dead dad day, I’m sure he’d be very proud of all that you’ve achieved and will continue to achieve in the future, great videos, thank you 👍🏻
Hi Nick. It looks like Artisan have been in and installed the Consumer units before you done your work😃
When you are pointing at the consumer with the flashlight it dawned on me you need a stick with a little pointing hand on it when you are discussing what you are going to be doing!
So glad it was only your brother and not someone else being nasty.
Sorry to hear about your loss. My father went in 2015.
Can't believe I have just seen a wormhole extreme t shirt, that is such a specific reference
@0:57 Sure... Eyeroll.. I charge full-rate for the work I do for my fams. Money changes hands, etc. Then we spread it back around... Tax gets paid, and I can write-off a few toys, etc...
You are a truly lovely person & great content too
well done nick we're old school do what you can for family when you can theyre all you have look after each other ..
I lost my dad also on the 8th May 1 year ago. Miss him lots but he was suffering too much at the end so it was a release.
Your dad would be proud of you on the community you have created and your videos.
Wait till your children get older, that’s when you discover how much you can really do for free !
I would never charge family , and I never have … friends some we would swop ( plumbers) etc would do my plumbing .. I’ll do there electrics ..others I’ll give a discount .. I also did a lot of work for pensioners .. ( an allowed a day a week ) were I would not charge labour only for material.. also my daughter run a nursery for autistic children. I do a lot for them
As well .. when I can. ..it’s called a helping hand. To others who cannot … congrats on your 5 years. It’s nice to see a young guy like yourself giving the trade a good name ..,,
I’m struggling to see why there is different rcbo’s in a fuseboard consumer unit or are these fusebox afdd’s can’t really see
you haven't finished your jumper cable terminal installation... only noticed your left ear lobe was completed...
I like you, you seem a great human being. Superb work young man, and your videos are fun and great for different things. Looking forward to the Octopus video as I am just switching to Octopus energy and having a battery system attached to my 4kw system that I have had for ten years. Having the GivEnergy All In One 6kW - 13.5kW Battery and Gateway hoping I have gone the right way. Any advice on battery systems appreciated. Thanks
Great video as always.
Question on the Fusebox CU. I know you didn’t fit the board but the rcbo’s appear to be the taller version which are single pole (unless they have changed them) I don’t do anything with solar but shouldn’t they be on double pole rcbo’s the same as ev equipment.
Also will be interesting to see what happens when amd 3 comes in, how many rcbo’s are bidirectional now or will that be another cost for another version of rcbo.
You need to do ground Sauce heating as well lol so then you don’t need gas
Great guy Nick love your ethics.
Great video. Keep up the good work
Have you got the right type of RCD for bi-directional current flow, with the new amendment coming 😅😅
Your Dad would. Is so proud of the man you've become.
The Clarksons voice 😂 love it 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I get that everyone is working from home these days, but honestly I just don't find this 'I can't turn the power off' acceptable.
As a customer, it doesn't matter what the trade is, but if they're in my home doing work, I arrange my day so that the electricity/water/whatever can be turned off or disturbed. It's a very limited window, and I want the contractor to be safe, and almost as important, do their best work.
The idea that someone could or Would do their best work for you while going through hoops is just ridiculous to me. I'm going to make it as easy as possible for the person to do what they need to do. Even if it does nothing but put them in a better mood, I'm pretty sure I'm coming out ahead. Not getting the best electrical or plumbing work you can because it's slightly inconvenient to rearrange a few things seems the very definition of penny wise, pound foolish. 😂
Totally agree - it's just courteous really! And make your professional a good brew too!
100,0000% mate if I can supply temp power, i will... if there's a henley block, we have a temp supply on a board, with 2 double sockets, you can run ext leads from that, but i am NOT putting my life at risk for some office job
@@lordgeeker1138 and some cholocatey hobide knobbs as well
Tampa FloridaCheck in love the content And admire you for taking care of your family
I appreciate that cheers dude
Congratulations Nick 👍
Happy anniversary from your long long lost cousin in need of a rewire 😂
You are a good lad. Keep it up 😊
Those the ties velocity sent in the OG NB200 bag
Any work I have done for family all I ever charged was them suppling me for tea/coffee and lunch, as for friends charge them materials costs and a case or 3 of beer. But my mechanic mate has made a lot more beer out of me, than he ever got from me
Immediate family that I have alot to do with materials only
wider family members about half unless it's a larger job ofc
Ones that only got in touch for my work, I charge as normal minus a small charge
I had a eye problem my "family member" charged me for a lift to hospital 😱🤷🤷.l never charge .
All about the gadgets these days with young sparks , I don't know how we managed years ago .😂
I am not in the trade but yeah I help my family free of charge (I don't charge anyway lol) and usually they pay for the materials they want to have / install. I get love as a payment 😂😀👍
As for charging family and friends. Family is free they just pay for materials but they know it gets done when I have time. Parents for example I will know months in advance when they are on holiday and do things then when they are out the way.
Friends (close ones) it depends. If it's a quick job just some food down the pub. If it's a day it's food down the pub and they can pay to fill the van up on the way back so maybe £100 of diesel.
For friends of friends or their mate from work etc I usually just say I'm too busy as I don't want to insult them by charging them full price.
Love what your doing mate keep it up
Friends and family think I am an undertaker. Never get asked for discount.
Family always comes first, help them any way you can even your mum in law lol.
I don't remember the date my dad died, but man hugs to you (the strong ones that end up with me handing you and your brother a pint)
We buried my dad on my birthday, so it’s always easy to remember!
Are the spit guns worth the money or would a normal concrete nailer do the same?
That fuse box RCBO isn’t bi-directional so will fail over time and turn into just a MCB 🤓
Very interesting though I didn't understand all of it!
I work for family free because family works for me free. Different skill sets or actually raising you. If they were always too 'busy' to help I would apply the same.
Most people don't like you, they only like what you can do for them. That's my advice. Only brothers and sisters get things for free, and discount is only for mates that send you a birthday card in person. The rest pay full price.
What model MG is it that you bro has? Looking at larger, family size EVs at the moment.
This is a great artisan video although I feel like the quality is slipping although I like the green zip ties.
Happy TH-cam birthday mate 🎉
Haha the burn for Artisan.
Happy Anniversary 5 years on TH-cam
Happy 5th TH-cam Channel Anniversary! 😊
120 quid is expensive for those steps??? Hardly.
You’re a good lad Nick.
Happy 5th TH-cam anniversary 🎂🎂🎂
Pay for materials only personally
all the best Nick and family 🫶
Would love to get batteries. By my calculations it's not worth it as it will take 10 years to break even. If I had an EV it may be worth it. Another 3 years and my Solar will be break even and I will start making money.
Close family it’s zero labour for me. Everyone’s different though 😊💡
You didn’t work for free Nick! Fanta zero remember 😆 👍🏻
Me and my sister love making people feel awkward on dead dad day 😂
Best thing ever 😂
Good man I like your style. I also do free work for the family.
Family I typically provide labour free and charge cost price for any materials, for friends it depends on the person but normally I'll work for food and drink! (charge for materials though!)
The way I see it is if I have the time to spare it doesn't cost me anything and for most people I'll happily help out, not looking to gain from friends and family as long as I'm not losing out by doing it
Happy anniversary buddy
Parts only never charged for labour to family
The people running the grid are having nightmares for when a large amount of homes gets these setups.
You need a third CT on the battery prevents Car charging off the house Battery
I will recommend the Little Giant steps to my carpet fitter friend
The Zappi rule about needing to use their screws should have been the earlier warning of how much of a buck pass company they are.
Size 13 that is mental
