    I have rebuilt this engine due to rod knock caused by this. The amount of sealant used is crazy. Sealant is used everywhere with few o-rings and gaskets used. The sealant in the pickup comes from everywhere, especially the valve covers!

      I'm holding off on getting a BRZ to see what comes out of this rtv issue. At first I was considering the GR86 but the looks of the BRZ grew on me and now I think it's a better looking car (totally a subjective thing).
      That said, other than looks what made we switch to getting a BRZ once all is settled is hearing absolute nightmares of Toyota dealerships not having parts not even for oil changes, mechanics guessing what to do cause they never see boxers and effing up the cars, and dealers outright denying warranty repair based on bogus reasons. Then you here the Subaru side saying that if they have issues Subaru takes care of it no problem making choosing a BRZ seems a no-brainer.

      Toyota/Subaru should be offering to check these for free, extending warranties, stop sales and fix the problem, he'll do something!!!!

    toyota korea just canceled someone's warranty due to this silicone in the oil pan issue. apparently going over 6000 rpm was the reason to cancel the warranty, when the car is stated it can do 7000. I'm not a mechanic so I don't know what is really going on, but nonetheless, I hope toyota does something to address this issue.

    • @CruiseControl1
      @CruiseControl1  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Unfortunately I don’t see Toyota or Subaru doing much to improve this issue. There has been progress in the aftermarket with different oil pans, baffle plate and different ideas on how to control the oil starvation when turning right in high G moments on track. As for the silicone issue I would still recommend people drop the oil pan after a few thousand miles and clear any RTV that has been caught in the pickup tube.

    Is this an issue for 2023 gr86 as well?

    • @CruiseControl1
      @CruiseControl1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hopefully not, however I don’t know. This is caused by the assembly process at the Subaru plant, they just need to calibrate how much rtv is used to seal each component.

  • @TeaDoubleE85

    Will this be an issue for the 2023 model?

    • @CruiseControl1
      @CruiseControl1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hopefully not, the issue was caused by the automated machines that Suburu uses and they should be able to recalibrate them to not use so much rtv silicone. However I don’t know if that’s been done.

      @@CruiseControl1 Thank you for the reply. I'm gonna purchase the 2023 model just so I don't have to deal with the issue. This will be my first new car purchase. Hopefully they learned their lesson.

      Are you getting the Subaru BRZ or Toyota GR86? I ask because since it is made by Subaru you might have better luck with them standing behind the warranty.

    • @TeaDoubleE85
      @TeaDoubleE85 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CruiseControl1 I decided to go for the GR86. Right now it's hard to find a Manuel version where I'm at. Few more checks saved up and I'll buy the car fully paid off.

    • @CruiseControl1

      I would recommend looking at the BRZ again only because Toyota seems very happy to blame Subaru rather than doing anything when something does do wrong.

      That would be a good idea, especially since the more people that take it in the faster Toyota will make a service bulletin and change the RTV process to ensure this is no longer an issue.

      I would highly recommend it and I would ask if you can take pictures of the RTV once they drop the pan so you have proof and hopefully the more proof dealerships send back to Toyota that it will spawn a service bulletin and a change in how much RTV is used.
