  • Let’s try something new, man.
Treat this like a podcast, just run it in the back, literally nothing of note is on screen

About Twin Fantasy, I agree with both of them being 10/10 and absolutely great. Both of them have their purposes and their ways of presenting the story. It’s exactly how Will envisioned it when the remake was made: MTM is the “now”, rough and harsh, but from a blurry point of view from the pain he still feels at that time. FTF is the “then” a lot more clear and from a mature point of view, now that he can see things the way they actually were before. See how the sound of both versions connect with that?
MTM fans will say FTF is so soulless and with no emotion, but it actually really pours Will’s emotion AFTER the pain. It’s how Will actually feels right now about the past. That’s why so many changes were made. Specially the lyrics and the 6 more minutes for Famous Prophets. It would feel wrong to just sing the same thing when Will doesn’t feel that way anymore. Now *that* would actually feel soulless. But he made changes, to represent how his feelings changed, and that’s what I love about the lyrics from this version (even though I prefer the ones in MTM). Also, FTF has very good musical changes, like the loud and epic guitar solo in Cute Thing and of course the Painstar breakdown of Famous Prophets (Stars).
FTF fans will say MTM sounds so messy and “horrible” it’s hard to listen. But now this one is obvious after all that I said. The MTM version is more raw and “in the moment”, and that’s what’s so special and great about that version. The lyrics reflect the pain Will felt in that moment. And also does the messy, raw sound.
About Twin Fantasy (Those Boys) [the song], some say it has no purpose in the Face to Face version, but I might have an explanation of why was it left unchanged (except for the spoken part, that is also important for what I’m about to say): Twin Fantasy in 2011 was itself a revisit of the events. Will was 21 and wrote this stuff at age 17. “I haven’t looked at the sun for so long/I’d forgotten how much it hurts to” represents of course the past, how now he looked at it again, he remembers how much pain he felt then, and how much he feels now.
In FTF it still serves its purpose. FTF is of course also a revisit to the story of him and Wurtz. And of course Will still feels sad about what happened. It takes a whole new meaning, because it *really* has been very long since all that happened. The rest of the song, of course, talks about the Fantasy, and since it was something real, why change it? It doesn’t need to be right now. It’s the past, exactly what he is remembering in the whole remake. And of course, the spoken part tells you that “this is just a song” and even though the very last lyrics are left unchanged, he explains “these are only lyrics now”. Just an echo of the past. The past that was real, that will never really leave nor change, but that Will now can see clearly. He has surpassed that painful breakup. He has now, actually, rejoined society.
Thanks if you read this until the end, and sorry for the long ass comment lol. But I really wanted to share my thoughts about this album, and both versions, since they are very special to me.

@@IolZ555oh and I forgot about the Nervous Young Inhumans monologue. Not gonna extend it a lot because I already made a long comment, but the difference between a monologue that is about how he can’t surpass Wurtz and is still in love with her (or his by then?) art to one that starts with “I am a good person. I am a powerful person” is notorious. That change is meant to represent how Will no longer regrets writing the song, nor the whole album. “He no longer regrets his own story”, as the official Matador Records description states.

i do actually think the ghost pop tape remaster is significantly worse, part of the whole appeal of the original was how spacey, messy, and haunted it sounded. I only had just listened to TGPT for a couple weeks when the remake came out and I could tell it was worse. To make sure though I recommended a couple friends to try the remaster first and then the original and they all said the original sounded way better.
I don't think the remaster is necessarily bad though I just think it is much more inferior to the original, but music is subjective so if lots of people might like it more.

even though i don’t even like the album I’d have to agree, just listen to the first minute of track one on each version and you’ll see how
there’s just a total lack of spaciness and it def detracts from it

@@Bonnienightmr nahhh, cute thing ftf was always kind of a lowlight, only mtm though it sounds great
      Here’s what i think:
My boy: both are equally amazing
Beach life in death: probably FTF just for that chorus
      Stop smoking: equal
      Sober to death: MTM
Nervous Young Inhumans: I’d say equal, i like the speech at the end of MTM more, but it drags on FTF idk
Bodys: FTF, though they’re both close
      Cute Thing: MTM solos
High To Death: equal, probably the worst track on both versions
Famous Prophets: drags on FTF, I’ll go MTM
      title track: probably MTM, idk
