Also have you watched Where The Dead Go To Die? It's completely unrelated to the conversation but that's a weird, very bad, sometimes funny and very poorly animated horror anthology film that I really love, had it recommended to me by a now deleted TH-cam video and it's never left my mind.

@@IolZ555 fair warning many have called it disturbing. I don't find that true due to the shitty animation quality making it hard for me to take seriously but it deals with a lot of heavy topics like CSA, Abuse, Lots and lots of gore, etc. all animated poorly and acted even worse but still

Holy shit you're a white guy? No. Fucking. Way.
But for real I love Perfect Blue. It's a really ugly, psychedelic, and bizarre movie that truthfully I can't really say anything bad about. The imagery is so strong with this movie like that one really violent silhouette shot ripped in half which was incredibly striking and uncomfortable in a really well done way and of course stuff like the chase scene with the reflection moment and the ... let's call it Abuse scene y'know the one, was VERY much bold and i appreciate the approach sooo much.
Really there isn't anything i can compare this to other than Satoshi Kon's other work (most notably Paprika). You put my feelings on most of PB very well. Solid rant.

This film is a psychological depiction of Foley à Deux (Shared Psychosis) Rumi (Mimas manager) is suffering from DID Dissociative Identity Disorder, she is the antagonist behind every turn in the film. She has conflated her sense of self with that of Idol Mima, having been with her through her entire career. Combine that with Mima who is having her own identity crisis brought on by not having as much success with her rebrand as anticipated. The huge shift of tone happens after the rape scene because 1. Rumi’s escapist ideal of Idol Mima gets shattered, sending her spiraling and 2. Mimas jeopardizing her image by demeaning herself
