@@Robloxman01 That would make sense; tanks or armored vehicles, in general, would have made a huge difference in just intimidation factor alone. Plus you don't need more than a handful, especially if they are anything like the tanks in Fallout 4.
As someone who is a fan of enclave design, more so just the overly militaristic design. It pisses me off the enclave base looks like something at lazer tag.
I feel like it’s supposed to be based off of Raven Rock’s design but I do feel they could have done things better. Unless you’re talking about that second “boss fight” if it’s Enclave, which in that case it almost looks nothing like Fallout. Speaking of, that first boss just used Ghost Person sounds and animations and they didn’t even bother to change its weapon.
I voice acted for a character in this mod and to be honest, I'm not ashamed. I gave the performance my best and to me that's what matters. I played the mayor of some town, some guy named Grant. I feel sorry for everyone who waited seven years for this. For me it wasn't much of anything. Just another role. I've got another role coming up for another mod, my hope is that anyone who's waiting on Couriering Ain't Easy won't be disappointed. (edit: the town is arlington heights)

I can't blame you for wanting to get involved in one of the biggest mods this game has ever seen. when you're just a piece of the puzzle you can never really tell how the puzzle looks as a whole until it's done. especially with ragtag community-driven stuff like this.

I thought it was so cool that people had been working on something like this for four and a half years (at the time). Community felt starved for new content then. The disappointment of FO4 and it's DLCs had gone stale well over a year ago. Naturally I don't blame myself for the final product, but I am a little sad that seven straight years had seemingly been flushed down the drain. Projects like this always come with that risk, though.
@@madman6962 there's some stuff that can definitely be salvaged from the wreckage, so it's not all bad. I'm still excited for the prospect of a standalone buggy mod, provided I can get in the thing. there's been a very nice resurgence in new vegas modding recently, so I'm sure we'll see a few of the nice assets from the frontier trickle their way down through other mods.
to be crystal clear - most people don't think the frontier is shit. it might be, at least in some ways, but this isn't a hunt down the freeman scenario where everyone's going to be jerking off about how it's abysmal.
It’s mods like this that make me genuinely realize just how “hard” game design is. Not that only experts can do it, but that developing a vision for what you want the end product to be, then effectively executing that vision in a way that is both enjoyable to play, and entertaining as well.
It is much, much more about teamwork and communication than individual skill. You can develop individual skill over the course of developing a game, but if the coordination isn't there, your project will fall apart. There are a lot of people who are individually skilled that worked on this mod, but they had absolutely no coordination.
It’s like making a movie in that even a shit movie takes a whole lot of hard work. The technical aspect of the mod is actually promising but because of how shit the writing is, like a movie, the whole thing just gets tossed in the bin.
They really just stole that whole “choose who lives” scene from the beginning of Wolfenstein the New Order in this mod. Big robot men holding every, a crazy scientist with a knife, the whole nine yards...
And they literraly copy pasted lots of assets from S.T.A.L.K.E.R and they think nobody would recognize these buildings from the actual game because not alot of people played it. So pathetic
Nobody talks about New Vegas for its gameplay, they only talk about the writing. This is why Frontier flopped. They worked on the thing nobody cared about, and completely failed at the thing everybody cared about.
If they wanted to improve gameplay and make it this CoD-type style, they should’ve modded FO4. You could get some great things from that. Modding the FO3/FNV engine for combat was the wrong idea. But the writing kills it lol

Like, the whole point of new vegas main character being called the Courier was to point out how unimportant he was as a person. it wasn't a heroic moniker. Ulysses used it because nobody knew about you and what you did, because you were just a courier, a shadow. even Radio New Vegas doesn't make you the protagonist of the actions you do. you are just "some courier". that's the whole point: you don't matter as a person just cause. you matter because of your actions.

Imagine a faction made out of people who misinterpreted recovered snippets of Casino Royale for a real documentary on the british military's secret ops and decided they'd "revive the secret service", fallout style. That alone would make for a better questline than any of what the Frontier gave, even if you went the funny route.

It's worse. During the "press f to pay respect" funeral they refer to you as "Courier 6" which is asinine. If just Courier is somewhat excusable because that's how Mr New Vegas introduces you and some characters (not all) can deduce that you are that courier from that broadcast, but 6 is just a random number you've got before your last delivery. You're not The Courier 6 you are one if the guys used for Mr House's order who happens to be 6th on THAT particular order

I love how the mod is "lore friendly", yet the NCR and the Brotherhood of Steel both knew about Archimedes II while in New Vegas, only Elijah and Ignacio Rivas knew about it. There are 2 quest related, where you either activate Archimedes II or send power to certain regions, and you have the option to give evidence to the existence of Archimedes II to the BoS
A lot of the scenes in this mod feel like they're copy pasted from something else. Maybe one day someone with the time and willingness to go through it will document what the scenes are based on.
I played through a good portion of the NCR line and I kept saying WTF. Why are we joining the military? The world is in ruin and we are going to space? Why the hell am I playing a cheap Silent Hill in a Fallout game? And on and on and on. The more I played the more it felt like "oh we can do this cool thing, lets throw it in the mod!"
I'm guessing the space station was inspired by the one in Van Buren design document, but that made sense in the context that Van Buren was trying to tell, where it was a decaying abandoned pre-war relic that had been largely forgotten about. New Vegas did reuse ideas from Van Buren, but it recontextulised them to fit the new story.
Its a textbook example of how you should have your start, finish, and at least a skeleton of the path the story takes from A to Z BEFORE you start making it

The courier was so against driving that they broke the laws of nature and flew over the terrain before later turning back time itself to entirely avoid the timeline where they have to interact with the buggy.

A hyped up shining mod luring desperate fans to its Nexus page. The community's most known figures backing the project. Their words a liar's promise. The release was supposed to symbolize the limitlessness of New Vegas replayability. Not just for the base game, but for its modding community as a whole. A chance for players to play New Vegas all over again. Except the Frontier never delivered. Bad writing and no foresight ruined it's development, like a big Cringe Bulb going off. The release date. One big disappointment for the community. It's still out there, on Nexus. Downloaded. Still waiting for someone to make a post-mortem analysis video. But playing it, that's not the hard part. It's letting go.
I hate a lot of things the mod does, but one that really pisses me off for whatever reason is the fact that everyone knows exactly what the courier looks like and that everyone addresses you as "courier".
This so much. Ulysses is the only one who actually ever refers to you directly as the courier in the base game like it's a big deal because he's the only one who has a reason to care or acknowledge that's what you are. Sure there are a few times where an NPC would go "oh hey, you're that courier we keep hearing about. cool. so anyways..." and it ends there. They don't then continue to call you that as if it's your name and sole defining trait. They just call you various pronouns acknowledging your existence as you would to someone who you just met and know nothing else about.
never even considered the fact that there is literally nearly no way for anyone to know if the guy is the infamous courier unless they met him, he's mentioned it, and if they have prior knowledge of what the courier has done or is being told by someone else credible enough.
Also, the courier (who has covered more American ground than probably any other character) doesn’t even know where or what Chicago is... but yeah he’s aware of Star Wars and James Bond

@Some Person there is actually a neat ingame explanation to it: they only found some recordings in the school, which later burned down, nothing else (besides jackets and hair stuff). but if you ask me, i guess obsidian wanted to put elvis in there but had licensing problems later on, so they thought of an explanation so they dont have to scrap a whole faction.

The bombs dropped in the year 2077 and star wars came out 1977. I don't think it's a far fetched idea to imply the a copy or copies of the movie somehow somewhere survived the bombs.

The Enclave Remnants in Vanilla New Vegas make it very clear that the NCR makes it a point to hunt down and kill every single person connected to the Enclave. - One. There has been *one* DLC that sent you to space, and it was literally aliens that took you there. - The Prydwen's existence isn't exactly unreasonable. Blimps carrying aircraft was a thing in the real world, the US Navy used two of them, the USS Macon and Akron in the 1930s. That was with the entirety of the Brotherhood's resources, and they still had to steal Rivet City's reactor to make it work. - There *could* be lizard people in the Wasteland, the same way the One Eyed One Horned Flying Purple People Eater could exist in Fallout, but making them up and inserting them through a mod is by definition not lore friendly.
@@MrRight... you realize that DLC was with alien technology? That blimp was still under earth’s atmosphere. Commandeering and building vertiberds from scrap does not equate to being able to develop space travel. Even Jason Bright and his Ghouls in NV couldn’t go to space with actual rockets (they used them to get to a Ghoul sanctuary). The Enclave was was led by Dick Richardson. It wasn’t like the BOS where each chapter has a different leader, Richardson led every division known. Only when he died did John Henry Eden assumed command. Richardson WANTED to get to space in the future, they never got to that point. There was considerations but the concept died with the Enclave in FO 2 and 3. So no it’s not possible anyone developed space travel after the war. Maybe you don’t play the games and are just trying to defend a shitty mod.

Yeah, the gameplay may be serviceable and fun but when you’re constantly getting annoyed at lore inconsistencies, cringey dialogue, complete tonal changes, and ham fisted messages. To be fair, some players completely miss how badly Caesar understands Hegelian Dialectics and go "Slavery Good" while trying to justify joining legion, so maybe this mod was trying to be less subtle about it with its "evil" faction so not to have a repeat on that... Except then there's shit like America the barely legal slave girl you can enslave or, well, again, joining the Legion, so we can't even be sure about that.
At least the Legion’s evil is explained by their ignorance and warped world views. There are enough people with similar ideals to actually think they’re just. Chris Avallone set aside his beliefs to make a cohesive faction that many would see as evil and yet the writers for The Frontier just reused a faction the game franchise has barely done anything interesting with.
I'll pin this real quick since I've seen this come up a couple times: If you played the Frontier and thought "hey that was fun, I liked that!", then I'm glad you had fun. While a lot of what I experienced in the mod felt brick dumb and sewage waste disgusting, I don't think any of the creators of this mod went into development with the mindset of "let's make a flaming potpourri of bad decisions." If you're able to find joy or pleasure in what they made, then that's a good outcome for everyone. That's the weird thing, apparently a lot of the devs weren't really Fallout fans. Like, some of them didn't even play New Vegas, the very game they were modding.
New California felt like it was written by passionate fans of NV but were unfortunately not very good writers. Doesn't help that most of the modders left and the mod was left in the hands of only two people. Mean while this mod was made by Fallout 3 fanboys who didn't like NV, who were also more interested in preaching their politics and putting their fetishes in the game.
@@ironmaskofhell1877 I mean NC has the excuse of being unfinished and technically cancelled if you read the design docs the dev made after the final build you can see that it has a lot of potential but they couldn't realize it because of a lack of volunteers. Frontier got all of the volunteers which I guess is the real sad thing about all of this. It's so easy to think of mods with better stories that could've been made if the volunteers went to those instead of this (New California comes to mind but I have no doubt that if the people behind this were involved then seige of firebase Zulu could've been made).
I couldn't even get this mod to run properly, it was so horribly executed. Thus, never met these " lizard people". My question is, would there happen to be any footage of them on TH-cam I could at the very least preview to give them a review of my own?
I love how New Vegas honestly had very few scripted events, leaving a lot of the gameplay unbroken which has an effect to leave me in quiet contemplation as to whatever choices I make in the game. It makes it very immersive and realistic, and helps with roleplay (Courier arming up and repairing equipment to do more badass things) A lot of great moments spent in the game were me wandering the wasteland after completing morally grey quests, reflecting on the nature of my choices and what it means to be human. I'm not sure if anyone else experiences these same moments and perhaps I look into it too much, but in all the games I've played, New Vegas is the only game that has had this effect on me. It's all commendable to a dedicated group of game devs/writers that clearly had a vision and drive to make an excellent game. To see a mod deviate so far away from this formula is rough to watch, I'm not going to play this mod. Also at 7:22 when the quest popped up about the Midnight Science Feature, I would've uninstalled this mod and went to go play that amazing DLC by that point.
Dragon Age Origins gave me moments like that. I took a massive break from main story quests after completing the Landsmeet, both to come to terms with what happened during it, and to prepare for the final mission in the game
Most of the side quests and the crusader stuff is not scripted like the NCR questline. The NCR questline is really bad in a lot of places unfortunately.
It's not like it's even Inspired by that (really fucking good) scene it's just a straight up clone. Like if that was a fan recreation of the scene for a TH-cam video that would be cool...but for a huge mod like this it's just shameful
Don't forget that copy right laws and licenses doesn't cover well to products that aren't being sold for monetary gains. In other words; the Developers can do whatever they want so as long as they don't make money off of it.

@@nuclearpugg not to take away from sawyer's great writing but you also gotta remember that obsidian had a team of great writers attached, for example jongo or avallone. the concepts were likely revived from van buren and written almost in their entirety by those 3 and eric fenstermaker, whom wrote pretty much every perk and special stat description found in this game. those 4 guys are some of the greatest writers in the industry and i really hope they get to work on their franchises more
Underappreciated joke was at 13:27 when you opened the console again and you just see a wall of collision commands, implying the boss arena really is that hard to navigate
Chris Avellone, Josh Sawyer and Tim Cain are simultaniously having a migrane just by being aware of this mod's writing, and having it being attached to one of the best choice and narrative driven RPG's of the 2010's.

The side quests and exploration is fun, but holy crap most of the writing for the story, especially NCR and Crusaders, makes me cringe. Also the unnecessary amount of weird torture segments is what really killed it for me. Also a side note; America is one of the worst companions/characters ever created for a fallout game or mod. It's like the writers saw veronica in the base game and thought "what if we made her, but unlikeable."
I'm sure it has been mentioned, but that "choose who dies" scene that is bugged in this video is ripped straight from Wolfenstein The New Order. Like I'm not sure if it is incredibly lazy or incredibly lame. "You know what would be great... lets rip that off because me think Enclave all Nazis and make super soldiers all like Frank Horrigan". Not like New Vegas explored the Enclave Remnants and showed they weren't all irredeemably evil. Guess Arcade Ganon doesn't exist. Nuance and character? What's that? God even Bethesda treats Fallout with more dignity.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who reacted in a eye roll/WTF manner to the Enclave reveal. Up to that point, I was decently enjoying the mod. It had issues, but its a mod, you know? I'm just playing it because its extra content. Then with that sky laser beam, I thought THAT was the introduction to the Crusaders of Steel. I was super hyped, thinking "Oh shit, NCR got their weapon, now we see the Crusaders! The stakes are getting higher!" And...well.... You know how it all actually turns out. Great video though! I enjoyed it

Doing it at all was dumb, but to have what looked like 4-5 mini frank Horrigans trap you in the room with the doctor is a bit extreme. One horrigan would have been enough, but four is excessive, the whole mod as a whole reminds me of a little kid writing a story. no restraint.

Well the devs have said that it's not Frank Horrigan in one of Tk live streams and in one discord message 2 and a half years ago So I obviously cannot see any resemblance between the two and your just wrong
It looks like a case for why you shouldn't design by committee. Feels like one person wanted to make a CoD sequence, another wanted some Deus Ex, someone loves System Shock, guy over there digs Wolfenstein TNO, and on and on until you end up with some disjointed setpieces strung together. Real shame since they got so many cool technical things working and actually released something.

it's just another overly ambitious and overhyped project directed by amateur writers and gameplay designers with small budget, as many comments mentioned before, the *Hunt Down the Freeman* of Fallout series but credit where it's due, the environment artists should look for another opportunity to put their talents to use

I feel responsible in a way. I always argue with people on message boards that treating courier like a random "simple mailman lol" is wrong because a post-apocalyptic messenger has to have some level of skills comparable to our understanding of Ranger, Hunter, Survivalist, low-tear mercenary (kida how Pite is a prospector despite being a scavenger to us), but this is too much in the opposite direction
It kinda reminds me about the someguy series. You become more of a legend as the series goes on. It isn't until NVBIII that people are legitimately like "oh shitttttttttttttttt" but at that point you've massacred almost every other badass that's known so... it's kinda earned. I wouldn't call the someguyseries writing exceptional by any means but someguy knew he wasn't some godly writer and kept his stories simple so they actually worked.
Same experience but I played 50 hours experienced a lot of side content. Legion MQ stopped working so I finished it by walking to Camp Phoenix and killing Blackthorne, which made Valerius teleport to me and say "you did it!", cue ending slide.

The really sad thing about this mod, is that there are going to be hordes of people using the "ThE dEvS wOrKeD rEaLlY hArD..." defense to try and say this this mod is somehow remotely passable. This mod is one of the prime examples of how working hard is not an indicator of creative quality.

For example, removing the bias politics thrown in there which no one really asked for. Take your time and go through it and you'll find that pretty much everything in it is Stolen from other movies or games. There's almost nothing original in the script and very little of it matches any real lore in Fallout.
You know it's bad when *Fallout 4* does the writing and immersion better than this mod. F4, where you only get 4 choices of dialogue, usual only 2 unique dialogue options. And they at least had the decency to not shoehorn the Enclave. Yeeup, is a very bad situation.
I think it would be worse if the NCR somehow for some reason reached the Commonwealth. I still don't understand how a chapter of the BoS managed to get a blimp that looks like it belongs in the Wolfenstein franchise in the air without any raiders, rival factions to attempt to attack it or a platform to even launch the damned thing but I applaud Bethesda for attempting, key word [attempting] to make up new factions.

Frontier is in some ways, a oposite Cyberpunk. I mean technically it's impresive but the writing is really, really underwhelming(Not being able to join Enclave cause of Trump is uterley stupid) , where in Cyberpunk there where SEVERE technical issues but writing might save a game for some. I dunno it's kind of funny coinsidence that ocured relatively in short time interval from each other.
You can't join the Enclave, cause the Enclave believes anyone from the wastes (anywhere but the oil rig) is impure because of radiation/not being from the oil rig. That's literally been in the lore *forever* If you ever wanted to join the enclave, you're not very smart.

Conquering space is one of Mr. House's long-term objectives at the time of the main plot of the game, foreseeing it will be possible in 50 to 100 years. And this mod makes the NCR who's on the verge of bankruptcy in the Mojave send ships into space like it's no big deal. The Frontier never stopped to think about respecting the lore, let it be for this or the shitty pop culture references like Star Wars or James Bond that aren't supposed to have happened because of the bombings.

@@Robloxman01 That would make sense; tanks or armored vehicles, in general, would have made a huge difference in just intimidation factor alone. Plus you don't need more than a handful, especially if they are anything like the tanks in Fallout 4.

I voice acted for a character in this mod and to be honest, I'm not ashamed.
I gave the performance my best and to me that's what matters. I played the mayor of some town, some guy named Grant.
I feel sorry for everyone who waited seven years for this. For me it wasn't much of anything. Just another role. I've got another role coming up for another mod, my hope is that anyone who's waiting on Couriering Ain't Easy won't be disappointed.

I can't blame you for wanting to get involved in one of the biggest mods this game has ever seen. when you're just a piece of the puzzle you can never really tell how the puzzle looks as a whole until it's done. especially with ragtag community-driven stuff like this.

I thought it was so cool that people had been working on something like this for four and a half years (at the time). Community felt starved for new content then. The disappointment of FO4 and it's DLCs had gone stale well over a year ago. Naturally I don't blame myself for the final product, but I am a little sad that seven straight years had seemingly been flushed down the drain. Projects like this always come with that risk, though.
@@madman6962 there's some stuff that can definitely be salvaged from the wreckage, so it's not all bad. I'm still excited for the prospect of a standalone buggy mod, provided I can get in the thing. there's been a very nice resurgence in new vegas modding recently, so I'm sure we'll see a few of the nice assets from the frontier trickle their way down through other mods.

It’s mods like this that make me genuinely realize just how “hard” game design is. Not that only experts can do it, but that developing a vision for what you want the end product to be, then effectively executing that vision in a way that is both enjoyable to play, and entertaining as well.
It is much, much more about teamwork and communication than individual skill. You can develop individual skill over the course of developing a game, but if the coordination isn't there, your project will fall apart. There are a lot of people who are individually skilled that worked on this mod, but they had absolutely no coordination.
To anyone that'll come and say "Enderal", that mod was created by an actual game studio.

Nobody talks about New Vegas for its gameplay, they only talk about the writing. This is why Frontier flopped. They worked on the thing nobody cared about, and completely failed at the thing everybody cared about.
If they wanted to improve gameplay and make it this CoD-type style, they should’ve modded FO4. You could get some great things from that. Modding the FO3/FNV engine for combat was the wrong idea.

Like, the whole point of new vegas main character being called the Courier was to point out how unimportant he was as a person. it wasn't a heroic moniker. Ulysses used it because nobody knew about you and what you did, because you were just a courier, a shadow. even Radio New Vegas doesn't make you the protagonist of the actions you do. you are just "some courier". that's the whole point: you don't matter as a person just cause. you matter because of your actions.

Imagine a faction made out of people who misinterpreted recovered snippets of Casino Royale for a real documentary on the british military's secret ops and decided they'd "revive the secret service", fallout style. That alone would make for a better questline than any of what the Frontier gave, even if you went the funny route.

If just Courier is somewhat excusable because that's how Mr New Vegas introduces you and some characters (not all) can deduce that you are that courier from that broadcast, but 6 is just a random number you've got before your last delivery. You're not The Courier 6 you are one if the guys used for Mr House's order who happens to be 6th on THAT particular order

I love how the mod is "lore friendly", yet the NCR and the Brotherhood of Steel both knew about Archimedes II while in New Vegas, only Elijah and Ignacio Rivas knew about it. There are 2 quest related, where you either activate Archimedes II or send power to certain regions, and you have the option to give evidence to the existence of Archimedes II to the BoS

The NCR campaign is literally nothing but stitched together plagiarism of a dozen different movies and linear shooter games.
I played through a good portion of the NCR line and I kept saying WTF. Why are we joining the military? The world is in ruin and we are going to space? Why the hell am I playing a cheap Silent Hill in a Fallout game? And on and on and on. The more I played the more it felt like "oh we can do this cool thing, lets throw it in the mod!"
maybe the ncr would not be so stretched thin if they stopped exiling people to the frontier.
I'm guessing the space station was inspired by the one in Van Buren design document, but that made sense in the context that Van Buren was trying to tell, where it was a decaying abandoned pre-war relic that had been largely forgotten about.
New Vegas did reuse ideas from Van Buren, but it recontextulised them to fit the new story.

The release was supposed to symbolize the limitlessness of New Vegas replayability. Not just for the base game, but for its modding community as a whole.
A chance for players to play New Vegas all over again.
Except the Frontier never delivered. Bad writing and no foresight ruined it's development, like a big Cringe Bulb going off.
The release date. One big disappointment for the community. It's still out there, on Nexus. Downloaded. Still waiting for someone to make a post-mortem analysis video.

I hate a lot of things the mod does, but one that really pisses me off for whatever reason is the fact that everyone knows exactly what the courier looks like and that everyone addresses you as "courier".
Yeah, even on today's society where technology in communication is better this would be difficult.
This so much. Ulysses is the only one who actually ever refers to you directly as the courier in the base game like it's a big deal because he's the only one who has a reason to care or acknowledge that's what you are. Sure there are a few times where an NPC would go "oh hey, you're that courier we keep hearing about. cool. so anyways..." and it ends there. They don't then continue to call you that as if it's your name and sole defining trait. They just call you various pronouns acknowledging your existence as you would to someone who you just met and know nothing else about.
never even considered the fact that there is literally nearly no way for anyone to know if the guy is the infamous courier unless they met him, he's mentioned it, and if they have prior knowledge of what the courier has done or is being told by someone else credible enough.

The bombs dropped in the year 2077 and star wars came out 1977. I don't think it's a far fetched idea to imply the a copy or copies of the movie somehow somewhere survived the bombs.

- Enclave in the West though? The Enclave Remnants in Vanilla New Vegas make it very clear that the NCR makes it a point to hunt down and kill every single person connected to the Enclave.
- One. There has been *one* DLC that sent you to space, and it was literally aliens that took you there.
- The Prydwen's existence isn't exactly unreasonable. Blimps carrying aircraft was a thing in the real world, the US Navy used two of them, the USS Macon and Akron in the 1930s. That was with the entirety of the Brotherhood's resources, and they still had to steal Rivet City's reactor to make it work.
- There *could* be lizard people in the Wasteland, the same way the One Eyed One Horned Flying Purple People Eater could exist in Fallout, but making them up and inserting them through a mod is by definition not lore friendly.

Even Jason Bright and his Ghouls in NV couldn’t go to space with actual rockets (they used them to get to a Ghoul sanctuary).
The Enclave was was led by Dick Richardson. It wasn’t like the BOS where each chapter has a different leader, Richardson led every division known. Only when he died did John Henry Eden assumed command. Richardson WANTED to get to space in the future, they never got to that point. There was considerations but the concept died with the Enclave in FO 2 and 3. So no it’s not possible anyone developed space travel after the war.

At least the Legion’s evil is explained by their ignorance and warped world views. There are enough people with similar ideals to actually think they’re just. Chris Avallone set aside his beliefs to make a cohesive faction that many would see as evil and yet the writers for The Frontier just reused a faction the game franchise has barely done anything interesting with.
I'll pin this real quick since I've seen this come up a couple times:
If you played the Frontier and thought "hey that was fun, I liked that!", then I'm glad you had fun. While a lot of what I experienced in the mod felt brick dumb and sewage waste disgusting, I don't think any of the creators of this mod went into development with the mindset of "let's make a flaming potpourri of bad decisions." If you're able to find joy or pleasure in what they made, then that's a good outcome for everyone.

I feel so bad for being harsh on California.
New California felt like it was written by passionate fans of NV but were unfortunately not very good writers. Doesn't help that most of the modders left and the mod was left in the hands of only two people. Mean while this mod was made by Fallout 3 fanboys who didn't like NV, who were also more interested in preaching their politics and putting their fetishes in the game.
@@ironmaskofhell1877 I mean NC has the excuse of being unfinished and technically cancelled if you read the design docs the dev made after the final build you can see that it has a lot of potential but they couldn't realize it because of a lack of volunteers. Frontier got all of the volunteers which I guess is the real sad thing about all of this. It's so easy to think of mods with better stories that could've been made if the volunteers went to those instead of this (New California comes to mind but I have no doubt that if the people behind this were involved then seige of firebase Zulu could've been made).

I couldn't even get this mod to run properly, it was so horribly executed. Thus, never met these " lizard people". My question is, would there happen to be any footage of them on TH-cam I could at the very least preview to give them a review of my own?
I love how New Vegas honestly had very few scripted events, leaving a lot of the gameplay unbroken which has an effect to leave me in quiet contemplation as to whatever choices I make in the game. It makes it very immersive and realistic, and helps with roleplay (Courier arming up and repairing equipment to do more badass things) A lot of great moments spent in the game were me wandering the wasteland after completing morally grey quests, reflecting on the nature of my choices and what it means to be human.
I'm not sure if anyone else experiences these same moments and perhaps I look into it too much, but in all the games I've played, New Vegas is the only game that has had this effect on me. It's all commendable to a dedicated group of game devs/writers that clearly had a vision and drive to make an excellent game. To see a mod deviate so far away from this formula is rough to watch, I'm not going to play this mod.
Also at 7:22 when the quest popped up about the Midnight Science Feature, I would've uninstalled this mod and went to go play that amazing DLC by that point.
Dragon Age Origins gave me moments like that. I took a massive break from main story quests after completing the Landsmeet, both to come to terms with what happened during it, and to prepare for the final mission in the game
Most of the side quests and the crusader stuff is not scripted like the NCR questline. The NCR questline is really bad in a lot of places unfortunately.

@@nuclearpugg not to take away from sawyer's great writing but you also gotta remember that obsidian had a team of great writers attached, for example jongo or avallone. the concepts were likely revived from van buren and written almost in their entirety by those 3 and eric fenstermaker, whom wrote pretty much every perk and special stat description found in this game. those 4 guys are some of the greatest writers in the industry and i really hope they get to work on their franchises more

The side quests and exploration is fun, but holy crap most of the writing for the story, especially NCR and Crusaders, makes me cringe. Also the unnecessary amount of weird torture segments is what really killed it for me.
Also a side note; America is one of the worst companions/characters ever created for a fallout game or mod. It's like the writers saw veronica in the base game and thought "what if we made her, but unlikeable."
They really could have done well to have stricter quality control.

I'm sure it has been mentioned, but that "choose who dies" scene that is bugged in this video is ripped straight from Wolfenstein The New Order. Like I'm not sure if it is incredibly lazy or incredibly lame. "You know what would be great... lets rip that off because me think Enclave all Nazis and make super soldiers all like Frank Horrigan". Not like New Vegas explored the Enclave Remnants and showed they weren't all irredeemably evil. Guess Arcade Ganon doesn't exist. Nuance and character? What's that? God even Bethesda treats Fallout with more dignity.

Up to that point, I was decently enjoying the mod. It had issues, but its a mod, you know? I'm just playing it because its extra content.
Then with that sky laser beam, I thought THAT was the introduction to the Crusaders of Steel. I was super hyped, thinking "Oh shit, NCR got their weapon, now we see the Crusaders! The stakes are getting higher!"
And...well....

Doing it at all was dumb, but to have what looked like 4-5 mini frank Horrigans trap you in the room with the doctor is a bit extreme. One horrigan would have been enough, but four is excessive, the whole mod as a whole reminds me of a little kid writing a story. no restraint.
@@Dangermcawesome-x5l There basically was no quality control writing-wise. The guy who wrote and scripted the NCR questline did not like criticism and would essentially hold the mod hostage if people tried to force him to change things. It was actually worse than it is now if you can believe that.

It looks like a case for why you shouldn't design by committee. Feels like one person wanted to make a CoD sequence, another wanted some Deus Ex, someone loves System Shock, guy over there digs Wolfenstein TNO, and on and on until you end up with some disjointed setpieces strung together. Real shame since they got so many cool technical things working and actually released something.

I always argue with people on message boards that treating courier like a random "simple mailman lol" is wrong because a post-apocalyptic messenger has to have some level of skills comparable to our understanding of Ranger, Hunter, Survivalist, low-tear mercenary (kida how Pite is a prospector despite being a scavenger to us), but this is too much in the opposite direction

It kinda reminds me about the someguy series. You become more of a legend as the series goes on. It isn't until NVBIII that people are legitimately like "oh shitttttttttttttttt" but at that point you've massacred almost every other badass that's known so... it's kinda earned. I wouldn't call the someguyseries writing exceptional by any means but someguy knew he wasn't some godly writer and kept his stories simple so they actually worked.
Same experience but I played 50 hours experienced a lot of side content. Legion MQ stopped working so I finished it by walking to Camp Phoenix and killing Blackthorne, which made Valerius teleport to me and say "you did it!", cue ending slide.
When your mod *Requires* the usage of console commands to even get through it, on top of all the degeneracy.

The really sad thing about this mod, is that there are going to be hordes of people using the "ThE dEvS wOrKeD rEaLlY hArD..." defense to try and say this this mod is somehow remotely passable. This mod is one of the prime examples of how working hard is not an indicator of creative quality.

@@Zakori The bad still outweighs the good unfortunately, they would need to rewrite the whole story again from scrap and make changes to the games factions and characters. For example, removing the bias politics thrown in there which no one really asked for. Really goes to show that these dev writers dont have what it takes when it comes to intelligent and creative writing for a fallout game. Take your time and go through it and you'll find that pretty much everything in it is Stolen from other movies or games. There's almost nothing original in the script and very little of it matches any real lore in Fallout.

I still don't understand how a chapter of the BoS managed to get a blimp that looks like it belongs in the Wolfenstein franchise in the air without any raiders, rival factions to attempt to attack it or a platform to even launch the damned thing but I applaud Bethesda for attempting, key word [attempting] to make up new factions.

Frontier is in some ways, a oposite Cyberpunk. I mean technically it's impresive but the writing is really, really underwhelming(Not being able to join Enclave cause of Trump is uterley stupid)

You can't join the Enclave, cause the Enclave believes anyone from the wastes (anywhere but the oil rig) is impure because of radiation/not being from the oil rig.

Conquering space is one of Mr. House's long-term objectives at the time of the main plot of the game, foreseeing it will be possible in 50 to 100 years. And this mod makes the NCR who's on the verge of bankruptcy in the Mojave send ships into space like it's no big deal.
The Frontier never stopped to think about respecting the lore, let it be for this or the shitty pop culture references like Star Wars or James Bond that aren't supposed to have happened because of the bombings.
