  • Here, Ian Sadler explains what happens shortly after the release of the golf club and through the impact position. Done correctly it can provide additional power by utilising the upward release motion in the golf swing. The golf swing contains a circular swing path and this motion can be utilised to provide more power and consistency on all your golf shots.
When we attempt to hit a golf ball, there's a natural tendency to try to swing out, towards the target, instead of up in to the follow through. The natural golf swing force should be up, back down and then back up again to the completion of the swing.
It's important to remember that the clubhead wants to naturally release and catch up just at the moment our swing starts its upward motion. This is the key to good ball striking and more power through impact.

Excellent job Ian in explaining and demonstrating the circular golf swing! For the last year or so, I have been working on this inclined circle theory with an in to out swing. I find that in doing so, it's as though the butt end of the club is pointing at the "belly button" on the takeaway and downswing. The toe of the club is rotating over the heel of the club and it never overtakes the hands until after the follow through. This is the intent of the designer of the club on how it should function! This will definitely work if the player doesn't try to manipulate the club with outside influences. Well Done Ian!

Thanks very much for your comment John. The other point is to not be afraid to let the club release. It's so easy to hang on to it and block it off to the right. Regards Ian.

@@IanSadlerGolf Thanks Ian! Unfortunately, that has happened to me more than once and the result is a pushed shot!

Thanks Ian great video. I struggle with this as I always hold on to the club and hit at the ball with a tight grip that never lets it release. Would find this hard to swing up after the impact...

Hi Mark. Golf can be such a beautiful game, but sometimes it can be quite testing to say the least. Make sure you are releasing a little earlier than you think. It's a feeling that you might impart a little draw spin on the ball. Regards Ian.
