  • Active Acid is an analog 4-pole low-pass filter effect pedal with extensive features and control. Full resonance, 8-waveform LFO, expression control, envelope mode with two response types and sidechain capability, and a pre-filter drive. It's beautiful and nuts! Ha, yeah, that's just the design. An optical effect in the text. I hope it's not too annoying!

This seems very close to Vongon Paragraphs pedal. Can you explain how they differ?

I've actually never played the Paragraphs, so I'm a little bit guessing on some of this (with help from my friend who's played and loved both in different ways). In fact I was unaware of the Vongon until I was done with mine. Theirs looks very cool, for sure!
The first difference is what's at the heart of each pedal, which is a different filter architecture. Active Acid is built around my favorite filter, the SSM 2140, the filter used in the original Prophet 5. Theirs is built around the AS3320, which is a recreation of a Curtis filter that was used in later Prophet 5 models.
The envelope response seems to behave quite a bit differently too.
Another big difference for me personally is that Active Acid works with an external expression pedal, whereas I don't believe the Paragraphs does (forgive me if I'm incorrect on this!). This is a big deal to me in live and recording situations. Both offer sidechain, in different ways. The LFO function is also very different on each. It's kind of a preference thing as to which is more expansive/powerful but they both seem to offer a lot of control and options over the waveform of the LFO.
Ultimately, if you're looking for a synthy Moogy filter pedal, it appears to me you can't go wrong with either, just depends on which features suit your needs better!

@@TrapDoorElectronics Killer! Thanks for the info. Great work. Congratulations on your pedal. I am considering getting one for my synth setup.

@@PhillipThyfault Awesome! Yeah, for what I like to do, I looooooove it on synth (and guitar and drum machines and whatever, really).
