What's the container of charcoal bits for? If that's what the bits are.... Is that to prevent it being breathed all over doctors in a confined space or something?
Yes on holiday. My shoulder and hip were both dislocated. This really eased the pain easily and i was told how to use it by professionals. It is a lifesaver on my book. No one should have to suffer if they dont have to especially before an ambulance can get there and treat them better. My only thought for children is maybe make a whistle lets say blue whistle for pediatric patients that has less medication in it so they can safely and easily use it better. Kinda like how epi-pens come in epi-pen jr and the full strength epi-pens for older aged kids/adults.
It's not available in some countries because methoxyflurane (penthrox) was also used in much larger quantities as an anaesthetic gas in theatres. In this circumstance it had a tendency to cause significant renal injury and so was withdrawn in many places. This appears to not be an issue with the lower dose delivered by these devices, but reversing decisions like that takes a long time.
I live in Scotland, I dislocated and broke my ankle in 3 places about 2 months ago, when I went to Accident & Emergency I was given the "Green Whistle", didn't even realise I had fallen asleep, when I came round my ankle had been repositioned and a plaster put on it! Amazing stuff and has a sweet taste so was okay to take.
I was aware and awake the whole time the doctor pushed the bones back into place in my hand after shattering it in a fight. The feel no pain whistle it should b called.
ive been suffering from stomach migraines since i was 5. i am now 34. the paramedics have given me this plenty of times. helps with the pain straight away. just soon as it wears of the pain comes backs
Thank you for this video! This drug has been added to my scope of practice. Having a video showing the practical use of this medication is good way to refresh my memory.
I was given this since I am seriously allergic to some anesthesia and pain medications ! This was so perfect and any time I started to feel pain I puffed again! I just couldn’t get over how I felt completely comfortable with one puff at a time only as I felt the pain! It was so relaxing ! I am a control freak! I don’t like drugs that make me drugged up ! I don’t like getting drunk ! I like just feeling better from pain if I can’t zone it out with breathing and meditation! No drugs or pain blockers for when I had my ten! For my first few children, it wasn’t even an option! But by the third I learned to breathe and sit up and use the force of gravity to help the baby out! Rotating the hips with the contractions ! It works like a corkscrew effect around the baby moving out! The last seven were a breeze! But I had to deliver a dead baby and had to have surgery and this was I had to use! In many ways it was the perfect choice for such a horrific experience!
Im 15 and broke my tibia and fibula four weeks ago on a motorbike accident I was given green whistle when I came in to hospital and found to be way more powerful than gas they give you in the ambulance i fell asleep and woke up with a cast on which was only on for a day because I had to have surgery and have a rod and 4 screws out into my bone but at the time the green whistle was absolutely amazing
Used it 2months ago because i dislocated and broke my elbow. Honestly just made me feel high asf and really good. I didnt really have that much pain, but the pain I had went away with this.
2 doses in 24hrs is the max dose. Going to cause renal failure. Did he breath through it 8 times or did they use 8 vials? Sounds crazy to have given him 8 vials of the stuff
A couple months ago I had fractured my rib and they couldn’t find a vein and they couldn’t give me fentanyl cause I’m allergic so they gave me the green whistle and while it did help a little I was still in mountains of pain 😭
With respect to holding the penthrox for someone else: this is essentially performing an inhalational induction - something that is not appropriate for anyone except an experienced anaesthetist to do.
One of the most potent volatile anaesthesics infact - hence how you can get a device this small to give similar effect to an entire canister of entonox.
Big Pharma is why it ain't here. And it's fcukin ridiculous. As a recovering heroin addict, I support the Green Whistle over anything else. It does the same job but NOT ADDICTIVE! Big Pharma like Perdue don't want it here. Follow the money.
Methoxyflurane has been documented to cause toxicity in kidney function. It’s quite hard to metabolize in your kidneys so unfortunately the FDA banned it in 2005.
@@thehollow106 yeah if you get addicted to it or even just use it as a you would use like a painkiller yes....but this is given maybe like ones twice to the patient after trauma or intense pain
Where do i get myself one of these i have read it helps with major pain because i have snapped my leg in half and i think this will help with my pain whilst i recover

Have you ever used the green whistle? Any other pointers or advice you'd give to someone who is just learning about this?
I used it last night for a peptic ulcer, it made me feel nauseated and light headed, but it got rid of the pain.
Hope you feeling better
What's the container of charcoal bits for? If that's what the bits are.... Is that to prevent it being breathed all over doctors in a confined space or something?
Yes,
It's activated charcoal.
It absorbs what's been exhaled.
So the medics and doctors don't breath it in all day

Only heard of this on the show bondi beach. This was very interesting and informative thx
Definitely a thing
Same
What made you watch this video?
Literally got this on my recommended to me while watching a video from bondi
That's funny, was it a good or bad recommendation?
We need this all over the world. This is amazing and a medical game changer. Thanks for breaking it down for use
It was used all over, then it was banned
It’s banned entirely in the USA. Not in any EMS scope of practice and not even used in emergency rooms.
Interesting, will do so research and see what I can find.

That's exciting! Glad it worked, did you have any side effects?
@@allthingsparamedic No, I was fine afterwards, just a bit groggy but think that was a mixture of shock/stress/meds to be honest.
I'm glad 😊

Unfortunately does not last long
They should give calculated doses of heroin for some medical purposes.

By "practice" you mean playing games and eating boogers.

Yup, 2 very different gases. One is far more potential than the other.
What was it like?
It has a very similar sensation to laughing gas except it’s a lot stronger

This stuff got me so high I need some more lmao
I’ve seen on bondi rescue one guy had a dislocated shoulder and had to take eight but he was way out of it
Eight doses?
@@allthingsparamedic yea the guy was completely out of it

@Jason C 2 is the max dose
When my hands was broken doctors gives me this . I need to buy but I don't have money. My hands was broken by epilepsy
This is basically HUFFING but safer.

That's why the patient needs to hold it. It can stop/affect their breath.
Methoxyflurane is an actual full general anaesthetic
Yup, with enough it definitely is

I wished the FDA didn’t blacklist it.
It's really workings
thank you
I'm glad it was helpful
I’ve taken so many pills! I wonder if that whistle is safer? If it is why have I never seen it in the USA?
You can't use the whistle more than 2 time in a row.
It'll damage your kidneys
It’s illegal in the USA
Illegal in the US because it's Australian and big pharma can't make money off of it.

I wonder why it was discontinued in the US

Big pharma and opiates
Causes kidney damage
@rubyhoward2085 when you've dislocated your shoulder it really is insignificant.

How much could you have without messing up your liver? 😂
Looks like a chem from fallout lmao
Ill take some katamine if you're handing it out
Why don't they have the Green whistle in washington state hospitals and fire departments?
No idea
Methoxyflurane is not available in the US unfortunately. It was banned in 2005 by the FDA because it’s pretty hard on your kidneys

Because it's Australian company patented and big pharma can't make money off of it.
Is it like ketamine
Very different
Hello. Where do you get this? Thanks
depends who you are and where you from.
@@allthingsparamedic Australia
@@icemanauzRx from a physician
Where do i get myself one of these i have read it helps with major pain because i have snapped my leg in half and i think this will help with my pain whilst i recover
Unfortunately I’m pretty sure you can only get these in accident and emergency or in a hospital because of the strength and side effects of the drug
It's not for long term pain management. It'll mess up your kidneys.
Only for acute pain.
Lol😂
