Congratulations, both on your sobriety itself and on your desire to be a positive example for others. I especially like what you said about forgiving yourself.
That's so wonderful! I'm at 9 months sober right now. What you say is true beyond words, being kind to ourselves and rooting for anyone who's trying to beat an addiction is huge. All the best, Jackson.
Don’t down play your achievement, it takes will power, determination, and perseverance to do what you have done I tip my hat and congratulate you in your success and the forgiveness part is awesome !!!!! Skál Bródir
I really appreciate the fact that you're not ashamed of speaking about your alcohol issues publicly! Wish you all the best too and thank you for being on TH-cam!
My deceased father (2008) had received 6 months prior to passing, his 30th year medallion. His commitment was inspiring and I am sure yours is equally inspiring and that your life will be a blessing to others.
Congratulations on your remarkable achievement Dr. Crawford, and many thanks for your fine academic work and educational books and video content. You are much admired and respected. All the best!
I grew up around alcoholic family and have witnesses it’s detriments very personally. Good on you, Doctor Crawford. You do your family and friends a great favor by your sober presence and willpower.
Congratulations! That first step to working on doing better is realizing that you have a problem. I know many with addictions that deny that they have one because they can't(or refuse) to see the harm they are doing to themselves, and often, others. Fighting addiction is a battle that one must fight every day, both physically & mentally. You fight that battle every day so that you can ultimately be the Victor. Not every battle can be won, but if you lie defeated after one simple slip up, the enemy will not miss that opportunity to come in for a killing blow. That's why it's important to be kind to yourself, remind yourself of your goals, & rise back up to continue that fight. You are truly a drengr for your 8 years of battle, vinnask!
Thank you for sharing this part of your life. I've struggled for years and have been sober for 9 months. It's nice to know I'm not alone. Keep it up! You're amazing.
Strength. I'm at almost at two years. Focusing on that forgiveness: they don't teach you that in school. For me, sobriety is re-evaluating your place in the world, often through story. Your work speaks to that for me.
You are a model Doc, and I wish my brother would follow your path. I am glad that you have overcome the challenges that have been, I enjoy your books and work here on the tube. Keep on keeping on. Best from Tennessee.
Thank you Jackson. After lossing 2 in my family to the footprint of alcohol destruction, it is truly a gift to hear someone that has been able to move on to a better existence. And yours would’ve been such a waste to not have marching on giving us so much beauty and knowledge.
I'm 2.5 years sober. I gotta say, I don't feel obligated to help others. No one felt obligated to help me. I did it by myself. You're the only one that can and will fix you. Anything else is just a bandaid. Do it for yourself. You're the only person you truly matter to!!!
Congratulations Dr. Crawford! Each new day is a step forwards and 8 years of sobriety is quite the milestone to reach. You can take pride in the growth of your person you’ve fostered 🎉
Congrats Dr. Crawford and happy Leif Erickson’s day 🎉I’m about 7 months sober and plan on continuing. Your advice for young academics video was very illuminating and encouraging for those of us that have been through some stuff and looking how to continue on in life.
Congratulations on your eight years. You may not consider yourself a model of succes, but you are a good man. That too is something that can inspire- according to my students.
Wow, this came as a surprise to me, but very good for you, sir! I see the effects of alcoholism around me every day, and it is incredibly saddening. Those people can not live up to their full potential. But you can, and I am so happy about that! You are a very good man, sir! Thank you for all you do and keeping yourself in good health!
Congratulations on 8 years! I have similarly been recovered a little over 5 years now myself. You make a good point about all or nothing thinking & self forgiveness that's well worth considering. Thank you for all you do, & as you say, all the best!
That's an amazing accomplishment, Dr. Crawford! Congratulations! You should be very proud of yourself.... It takes an incredible amount of self-discipline and willpower to stay completely sober for 8 long years.... You're a real drengr!
Congrats! Not only to your victory, but also to your healthy attitude! Hitting a tiny mark in a huge field of failure invites only trouble, but seeing a margin for being human allows one to become the best possibleversion of oneself. You are a great voice out there, keep making yourself heard 🌻
Congratulations on your 8 years of being sober. Self forgiveness can be very difficult, so it's very inspiring that you make that a point on your continuation of being sober and, in general, being the best version of yourself that you can be. Your perseverance does not go unnoticed, looking forward to many strong years to come- wherever it takes you and the community, here.
Whatever you value more than your sobriety will be the second thing you lose. For an Alcoholic, sobriety must come first. I learned that the hard way. Congratulations on the 8yrs!🎉🎂⚡️
As a son troupled and challenged by a parants alcholism I can only offer you my deepst respect and appreciation. Hang in there, Tough One. NOT giving up or giving in under horrendous (inner) circumstances is a far less celebrated and glorified strenght than it deserves.
Good man! While I myself think moderation is always what you should strive for, I think that if all or nothing is what works for you then all the recognition for that. Good job! I hope that you'll have continued success in staying away from Drinking and that the Gods reward your hard work with further success. Best regards from Sweden!
So proud for you, it’s not easy sometimes and watching this feels good. I love that you encourage giving love, forgiveness and grace to yourself when it’s needed. That’s been my approach too, and it’s worked so far. Sending all the best back to you, sir
Congratulations! I love your Norse scholarship posts and I’m so pleased to hear that your recovery is continuing! Sending lots of good wishes your way! Thanks for what you do!
8 years being sober - that trully means a lot! Congratulations! And please keep going, you are worth it, Sir. I do not drink. Never have. I've come from a family, where alcoholism and drugs use was and still is something very normal and a part of everyday live. My own close family made me a lot of struggles, especially when I was a child. But eventually I've managed to left them behind and I'm happy without them in my live. The only sad thing is some people still have problem with me not drinking. Like there is some social obligation to get wasted every friday. This is so messed up! But at the end of a day, it's only me who decides what I'm drinking and what I'm not drinking. Besides, if others can stay sober, then I can too.
Glad to hear you have overcome your struggle (even if you still have to fight it). And also recognising that the world doesn’t end, just because a streak of soberiety is. It’s not about never falling of the horse, but getting back on it and sometimes slowly but surely increase the time on the horse and decreasing the time getting back on! It genuinely does make me feel better hearing people fighting/overcoming struggles. And of course so do your videos about language and Old Norse, it’s always fun to learn about your ancestral culture and language, and seeing similarities between them!
Just 4 days sober. I long for alcohol, but I feel pretty strong so far. I am dreading christmas though, not sure how that will turn out without alcohol…
Thank you for this video Jackson! I stopped drinking in Nov 2017. I did indeed have that one drink about a year later and your advice worked great for me. I realized what I had done, and instead of letting it wear me down I brought it up with my therapist and managed to find a way to make sure it didn't happen again since. To me, you are a model of success. 💪 Keep going!
ahh biggest congratulations to you and happy sober-versary!! that all or nothing mindset can be incredibly dangerous in so many situations, overcoming that is a huge accomplishment as well! we're all really proud of you Dr C 💕
God bless you, sir! Many happy returns! One thing that helped me, Doc, was the idea that even if I drank, I would not do it two days in a row. And all the best, good sir.
Congratulations Dr. Crawford! We’re ALL rooting for you! P.S. I chuckled when you said you’re not an example of joy. Maybe you don’t think you’re a sunshine-y personality, but you seem like you’re a content person and that you appreciate life. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and the beautiful places you visit. I think you’re inspiring! ❤
Congratulations for the accomplishment Mr Crawford. I admire your determination, self control and humbleness. I also have to say that I thank you very much for all the videos that you posted about norse mithology, they helped me very much in understanding better my religion, and for that I am very grateful. I genuinely wish you well
Congratulations man! I’ve always enjoyed your videos. My [no] ex-boyfriend religiously watched her videos (and I’m sure still does), and I thereby have seen quite a few when they fascinate me. But I had no idea you were on the sober path. I have been sober for just about six years (it will be six years on February 8 2024). I have so much more respect for you now. Not that I didn’t have a decent amount of respect for you before.
Congratulations, both on your sobriety itself and on your desire to be a positive example for others. I especially like what you said about forgiving yourself.
Congratulations buddy. I’m 2.5 years sober right now.
