Milwaukee M18 SWITCH TANK 4-Gallon Backpack Sprayer Review | Don't Buy

  • The Milwaukee M18 Switch Tank has many issues, but the biggest one of all is the leakage. Due to the consistent leaking, I recommend that you do NOT buy this tool as it need some major overhaul improvements. The other major issue that it cannot really empty the tank during the spray. Always leaves a bit maybe a quarter to half gallon in the tank. There are other better products out there that cost less and work better without leaking.
The Milwaukee M18 SWITCH TANK 4 Gal. Backpack Sprayer delivers the industry's first interchangeable tank design with no manual pumping. Designed to meet the needs of professional landscape maintenance, the battery-powered backpack sprayer provides users with instant, constant and adjustable pressure up to 120 psi and a 25 ft. spray distance. The 5-mode pressure adjustment knob adjusts the pressure between 20 psi to 120 psi, providing users with the capability to complete a wide range of applications. The M18 REDLITHIUM XC 3.0 Battery (sold separately) provides users with up to 12 tanks of spraying per charge. The 4 Gal. Sprayer Tank Assembly features a dual diaphragm pump for longer pump life and Viton seals for increased durability against harsh chemicals. The sprayer tank has a wide mouth opening for easier pouring and a strainer that filters debris from getting into the tank. The backpack frame includes wide straps providing users with added comfort during extended spraying applications and a handle for convenient transport and storage. The 4 Gal. Sprayer is made up of 2 components the M18 SWITCH TANK Powered Base and the SWITCH TANK 4 Gal. Sprayer Tank Assembly. The Powered Base includes the motor, battery compartment and REDLINK electronics, while the interchangeable Tank Assembly includes the pump, hose and wand.
Instant, Constant and Adjustable Pressure for Ultimate Control
Up to 120 PSI & 25' Spray Distance
Run-time: Up to 12 tanks per charge with M18 REDLITHIUM XC3.0 Battery
Critical seals: Viton for increased durability against chemicals
Dual Diaphragm Pump: For Longer Pump Life
Wide Mouth Opening and Strainer: For Easier, Debris Free Pouring
Wide Straps for Comfort During Extended Duty Cycles
Transport Handle for Convenient Transport and Storage

I bought this tool 3 years ago to spray my yard for mosquitoes. It saved me a lot of money vs paying someone to do the work. It has been a good performer until the tank started leaking a month ago. Other than the tank leak I am happy with this tool. I'll be looking on how to fix the tank leak.

If it didn't leak, i probably would have kept it, even with it's other down sides.

I have several of these units for about 28 months now. Ive been an exterminator for 21 years and no backpack system is perfect; they all have issues. Ive only had two tanks leak from the bottom and it was prob from a defective lot. I exchanged them and no problems. The base has never given me any issues. The straps staying wet, no thats a lie, only if youre sloppy. The main design flaw is the fact you have to tip it to the side wet the liquids get low so it can syphon it empty-theres a small filter inside the tank that you can remove because it can get gunked up and it empties much better. The hose is not that flexible because its wrapped with wires for the trigger mechanism. Ive seen guys who have bought the water version because of the hose and just had theyre own wand system. These make sense to me because I have everything Milwaukee including vacuum, tools, and many batteries. Although not perfect I like the best. Being able to simply switch products on demand is great.

I like you do pest control, I also do turf and ornamental as well. I have had my system with 5 tanks for over 2 years as well. Have literally sprayed well over a thousand gallons through these things at this point. Milwaukee must have just had a bad run on tank seals or something. Mine has never leaked a drop none of the tanks. They have been frozen, dropped etc. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another at all. You are also 100% correct all backpacks have plusses and minuses. So far for me this has been one of the best and most reliable I have had in on package.

The leak issue is isolated to a specific production run which Milwaukee has identified. They seem to have fixed the issue but there may still be units out in stores that got them from that run. If you get a leaky unit Milwaukee will make it right.

How can i tell if the ones i buy are not from the affected run?

    • @Javonis
      @Javonis 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@landscapingspecialist Just putting in water and running the unit a bit should make it immediately apparent. You can also purchase an extra tank or two and you'll have a different one to swap out yourself if you encounter an issue. The backpack base unit has no fluid involved, all of it remains inside the detachable tanks. You can open up the bottom of the detachable tank by removing 6 screws. Inside you could have seen where the leak was coming from. There is a feeder hose to the small internal pump assembly and a second feeder hose going to the mount where the external double wall hose attaches. You have 4 different couplings on those hoses that could have simply been loose. Since the issue seemed to happen after it was used my guess is the ones after the pump was the issue in the unit he tested. The pump in the unit I investigated was all metal and the gaskets of the pump itself were solid.

I think their problem is that it is unbalanced. Having the battery on one side and the pump on the other probably makes it tilt to one side or another and make it leak. It also puts more pressure on one leg over another causing fatigue. Components should be centered and symmetrically balanced.
