I didnt work at Starbucks but i did work as a barista and some of the "rules" make sense like wearing dark pants with no holes and not wearing perfume. If youre working were coffee and hot liquids ll day you dont want to get that on light clothing or have steam touch your bare sking (its not too too hot but uhh i have accidentally steamed my legs before and it wasnt fun. The pefume thing makes sense because peoe can be allergic to some perfumes and i think they just want to eliminate ppl having allergic reactions. I do think the hair dye thing and the no bright shirts thing is dumb lol. I understand wanting to not get hair in peoples drinks but wearing a hat or tying it back works just fine.
Can't tell you how many times I've spilled steam milk or fresh hot drinks on myself it's usually not that bad still burns but can work through it the ripping hot water
If you ever want to get into barista work, don't let Starbucks be your first job.... as a person whose worked and trained for multiple artisan coffee companies AND had the unpleasant experience of working for Starbucks out of pity for 3 months, I'm being honest.... between no dialing in to the espresso, resulting into a slur that looks like dishwater, no training on how to actually steam milk, and the "guidelines" that purposefully make serving a proper latte take forever and spoil the espresso before it could even be served... Starbucks is just a massive no. (not to mention the coldbrew that'd come to store in an unmarked bag that just said "cold brew) There's no way of saying it without sounding like a coffee snob, but when previous Starbucks workers would apply to other chains or shops, management would literally just deem them "inexperienced" and there was merit to it unfortunately.
Just Say Yes is an old policy that they phased out maybe 4 or so years ago because it caused too many problems. Now it's all about creating moments and assuming the best in others. So saying no when something is not safe, legal, or responsible is allowed.
The rule about asking customers to leave isn't entirely updated. We went through confrontation training a couple months ago that allowed us to deny a customer service if we felt threatened or thought they were a disruption to the store. Mind you, we have to ask calmly and politely. We are also allowed to respond to negative talk like, if a customer is saying nasty things to a barista, we shifts can step in and say, "I'm sorry you are upset with us and what can we do to make the situation better." or "I don't appreciate being spoken to like that and i'm sorry you feel that way."
It’s not as bad as the video makes it out to be. I’ve been there 8 years, it used to be black or whit collared shirts, natural hair, no tats, and black or khaki dress pants. Now a lot is dependent on your manager. You have never had to buy things to hang out in the lobby. It’s always been two drinks at a time, if you can’t sequence that’s on you. Mobile orders are what’s cause in the hold up, they have to be worked into cafe orders as well. Only stores with lots of instances of homeless or illegal instances had a lock on the bathroom. We can say no. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WE CAN NOT WARM UP YOU DRINK IF YOU DRANK OUT OF IT.
Hi. Starbucks barista here. I actually find these pretty normal. What I find wired is when a customer says thank you, we're not allowed to say you're welcome.
To the tipping point: my store gets tips for the entire team, and then each week the tips are split based off of how many hours you worked that week, and it varies by how much money was made in tips. Usually it averages at around $20 a week
Honestly it's hard thinking about tipping when the drink costs over $6. Justifying $9 for a drink is a bit much.. But if you buy drinks for 6 people, then I can understand a few dollars of a tip..
You don’t have to tip and you also don’t need a fancy $6 drink either. Tipping is nice for all the effort and hassles workers have to deal with on a day-to-day basis. Also Starbucks prioritizes the customer’s experience and I think that’s deserving of a tip
Why does this video make it seem as if these are extreme? I work there and most of the policies we follow are also policies my mom has to follow working in the hospital, and policies my brother follows working in a college. Stop being dramatic lmao
Well, we will say no to one of our restrooms because there's two separate restrooms for a reason that literally has a plaque on the door that says "Employees Only", and within my store, that's where we keep our cleaning products and such. If we started to let people use ours, then we'd be out of luck as well if they clog our toilets and mess up our sink, as well as they tend to do for the public restroom that's meant for them, plus customers can be quite disgusting when it come to public restrooms. (The Co-workers I work with are simply not.) There's plenty of restrooms out of the store, that they can make the journey to instead of arguing about why they can't use ours. We're also nice enough to send them to a different location that clean their bathroom more than we actually do. So many people go in and out, and there's always a long line, and we cannot and do not rush people with their time in the bathroom that we can only manage to really get that done at the end of the day when we're closing. However, sometimes we'd do at least our very best to just go in and check whenever we just can if there is no one because sometimes, it's like some toilet tissue wonderland of a playground in there to them where there's tons of that all over the floor like there isn't a trash can that isn't full inside the bathroom with them.
The dress code part really depends on your manager/district manager. My manager lets us wear cute stuff but as long as it’s in the color code. You can wear any color jeans as long as they’re in the dress code and has no holes in them. (Also no white jeans.) I also have 3 nose piercings and my manager doesn’t mind. Lots of us have septum’s too. I do really miss wearing nails though.
For everyone saying that these rules are “normal” and are common in restaurants due to food and safety regulations. You are so right, but some places have certain speculations in place. Prime example, I worked @ a fast food restaurant and facial jewelry wasnt an issue, you just were only permitted to where studs or small earrings and if you wore nails, they had to be cut really short . I definitely value customers safety, but taking away self-expression is really hurts. I work at Starbucks now and have a dilemma because I have a nose ring and a tragus piercing in my ear. Yes these are guidelines that were put in place but if I was hired on with them and been allowed to work with them, why change it now. I personally have a connection with my piercing and taking them out severs that.
They are not paying them enough to follow all these rules. Not a hospital or political job. Pay them 20 dollars per hour then. Heck much as there items cost Starbucks can afford it!
The dress code is so much more relaxed than my old job. We were only allowed to wear white tops and jeans. We can branch out to jean skirts but they had to be up to our knees (it wasn’t practical to wear skirts to work so no one wore them). And we can wear gingham
I currently work at Starbucks a lot of this varies from store to store. There is no rule limiting earrings and a lot of the weird things are for safety reasons
As a Starbucks barista I want to know more about this. Because I’ve definitely said it would take 5 minutes and offered alternatives, but if you ask and are certain you want it we can’t say no. Not sure how licensed stores are. A complaint to the store about that would get someone written up and impact operation.
@@connermeseberg3049 Not much more to say about it, except that I’ve been told “no” to a pour-over. In fairness, it was during a rather busy time, and I wouldn’t want to complain and get someone in trouble for something so minor.

I wish Starbucks was as much concerned about the coffee they sell as to what the employees are wearing. I drink a lot of black coffee, but not Starbuck's, there coffee tastes burnt.
The espresso machines need constant calibration or the shots will pull incorrectly. Baristas are pressured to quickly serve drinks and wouldn't have enough time to recalibrate when there's a long line.
I really hate that y'all did this video. I hated the customers that requested a drink to be remade and before I said anything "you can't say no" ... wtf! Also, you forgot that we can't say "you're welcome" to someone saying "thank you" we had to say "thank you".

I can tell you, I have spent a lot of money at Starbucks but when you ask to use your stars on expiring points they say yes, but they charge your card for cash not stars. If you don’t check your account you think you are using up your expiring stars and you are not. They are all just expiring. Okay the only way Around it is the app, I’ll do it, and as soon as all my stars are cashed in and my cash is all used up on the card, no more!
Can I ask what card you’re using? If you say “use my stars” but nothing that you’re buying applies to the stars then it’s going to charge you full amount. Also the charge goes to whichever card is scanned. If you’re not using the gift card/loyalty card and are instead scanning the visa/MasterCard/discover/etc then that’s where the charge is going to go
You also need to tell your barista you want to use your stars before you let them scan your card. We have to hit a button to redeem your star rewards and can’t do it retroactively.

A friend of mine dyed her hair while working at Starbucks, and then promptly got told that she would either have to change it back or not be scheduled anymore. She wasn’t scheduled anymore. Also we could only wear black or khaki pants, and black shirts.
my mom and a few close friends are allergic to perfume and get very strong headaches if a smell is too strong so the rule about not perfume makes sense to me. So does the rule about nail polish. Nail polish can be toxic if eaten so haveing it on and having it possible fall into a drink is not good
And,, the "never say no" rule is total bullshit. At the beginning of covid I was denied my moble order because indoor access was closed and I couldn't didn't have a car to go through the drive thru. A. I am visually impaired and CAN'T drive a car, and B I literally worked 500 feet away and walked over on my lunch break, what would be the point of getting in the car and waiting gas even if I could drive. I was ripped apart by an employee who said she didn't care that it wad discrimination, and that her job was more important. Thankfully an employee who knew me (again, I worked across the parking lot and was in that location almost every other day before Covid for 2 years) figured out what was going on and brought out my food to the patio and gave the district manager's contact.
The only challenge I have experienced is that they close at different times. I have had to drive through a Starbucks that closed to find another not far still open. And it wasn’t late at all!
I've been at SB for 3 years, most of this information is flat out wrong! No one has ever mentioned hair (Except to wear a hair net) color or how you color is not an issue at all. Where did you hear this?

Everyone in Starbucks breaks all of these rules everyday. Lol don’t be fooled.
You CAN ask someone to leave, especially now with Covid.
Even before covid, I've seen obnoxious karens or drunk/high homeless people kicked out.
oh cool
I would have no problem wearing black and grey it’s my whole closet
I worked there in 2001/2004 , dress code was white, black, tan, and NO piercings, and NO visible tattoos! Look at them now!
It’s not weird that the company has rules about what they wear. Almost every job has a dress code.
❤This 👏
"Just Say Yes!"
"Hiiiiii, Can I have all the money in your register, oh without you calling the police, of course?"
ee
I’m sorry, I work for the company, I thought this was REALLY weird guidelines. All of this seems pretty logical. But OKAY.
Now they don't have to worry about customers using the bathroom since Covid-19 They have all been closed since
Our bathroom is open and baristas have to clean them
Starbucks dress code allows ties so that's how I leave my mark.
I hate Starbucks
I personally have a connection with my piercing and taking them out severs that.
okay my local starbucks was actually pretty awesome opening up allowing me to plug my laptop in as the battery was 0.
Dang. Next they're going to take pictures of your tats and put them on file like you're in the service, or in jail...
They are not paying them enough to follow all these rules. Not a hospital or political job. Pay them 20 dollars per hour then. Heck much as there items cost Starbucks can afford it!
I don’t know where she got her information from but we’re allowed to tell you no
What’s up with the narrator’s pronunciations- hard t’s.... and been pronounced as bean? Annoying.
Or is it a slick pun for coffee beans?
The dress code is so much more relaxed than my old job. We were only allowed to wear white tops and jeans. We can branch out to jean skirts but they had to be up to our knees (it wasn’t practical to wear skirts to work so no one wore them). And we can wear gingham
I currently work at Starbucks a lot of this varies from store to store. There is no rule limiting earrings and a lot of the weird things are for safety reasons
Actually the 2 earring rule does exist.. It's just not strictly enforced.
I've been told "no" more than once, when I've asked for a pour-over.
@@LyleFrancisDelp I think the real question is why you felt the need to inconvenience the barista and the customers behind you, if as you say, they were busy. I’m sure the answer would have been different had they not been.
@@devinchristacook4799 Why did you feel the need to raise this question?
@@LyleFrancisDelp because, well, I’m confused. You say it was minor, and wouldn’t want to get anyone in trouble, yet felt the need to complain about it in the first place. Your original post screams white male entitlement, only to backtrack later.
And before anyone makes it an issue, I am also a white male, but still care enough to point out the aforementioned entitlement your comment seems to carry.
I absolutely love Starbucks green tea creme Frappuccino, no whip cream please!
Whipped cream is the best part on anything😭
Yes my favorite
My experience at two Massachusetts Starbucks restaurants is that the employees are rude.
I wish Starbucks was as much concerned about the coffee they sell as to what the employees are wearing. I drink a lot of black coffee, but not Starbuck's, there coffee tastes burnt.
Don’t order the pikes place medium roast, it 8s horrible!
They should have a coffee timer going for new batches every 30 or so minutes. Maybe things got busy and it was forgotten
The espresso machines need constant calibration or the shots will pull incorrectly. Baristas are pressured to quickly serve drinks and wouldn't have enough time to recalibrate when there's a long line.
I hate pike too even for free
I hate that starbucks made Pike Place their staple roast. It’s by far their worst tasting coffee. I’d ask for Colombia or Sirens blend!
I really hate that y'all did this video. I hated the customers that requested a drink to be remade and before I said anything "you can't say no" ... wtf! Also, you forgot that we can't say "you're welcome" to someone saying "thank you" we had to say "thank you".
Can Starbucks make a new policy to not sell burnt coffee? That'd be cool.
But hey.. Dutch Bros all the way.
I work at Starbucks. These are NOT true.
I don't know about yall but my location is a corporate location and we can wear any colored top we want with any pattern. Just no logos. We can wear any colored pants as long as it is not sports wear or legging (leggings can be worn is you wear a skirt). We are allowed to show any kind of tattoo(nothing sexual) and any kind of peircings.
Most of these are food industry required, not just starbucks
These are "weird?" Hair and clothing rules for employees? Yeah, so weird as to be bizarre! Unprecedented in the history of the food business!... Oh well, they're good click bait.
I can not dyed my hair. It's strictly prohibited in my current starbucks. I'd wish I could have my hair of any other color but they told me I can't :( I also can't have anything in my face like piercings or tattoos. Maybe because I'm from Mexico?? And all of that stuff are still taboo
All of this is 100% location based. The dress code and even menus vary widely from country to country
Y'all making the dress code seem strict when it's actually pretty chill compared to fast food joints lmao
The more you drink coffee, the more you need to go to bathroom!!
Wow! I’m a starbucks customer. Some of these things are false! I live in nyc! Some employees are not nice, always say no and the bathroom is always closed they say it’s out of order and block the door, thank god I live close by that I don’t need to use it but I feel bad for others who don’t. I wish all Starbucks would be the same. Where I work the Starbucks at Washington Heights out of all places is PERFECT! Never had a problem!
Some stores need to keep bathrooms closed because of the pandemic going around :)
@@sophiagardner4410 that’s understandable but it has always been that way for many years (prior pandemic)
@@Erykah_Mia I currently work at Starbucks(hired October 2021)at 6 Metrotech by NYU and while it definitely gets busy with Caffeine crazy College kids and office people, I absolutely love working there definitely more than my previous jobs Shake Shack and Five Guys. Also the reason why we keep Bathrooms off limits is because they are only for Employee's and trust me some customers would do weird stuff in the bathroom based on my experience from my previous jobs lmao
i feel like dress code shouldn't be that big of a deal. I wanna go in wearing my Van Halen T shirt so i can truly express myself. It feels kinda robotic wearing the same plain things. Besides, I talk to customers about literally anything and want them to feel at home. I feel if we could dress cool (lol) we'd enhance our conversations and connections. At the end of the day we're customers too!
oh in the UK we could only wear black. with or without the starbucks logo. although they only gave us 2 each so we often used our own. no jeans what so ever. and must be black.
That’s me I’m Keegan and work at the Crocker park location
Batista partner here they prefer you follow the dress code and things of that nature but it's not forced also saying it's weird to ensure nothing gets in customers drinks when your primary job is making drinks is how it should be. Customers can even bring dogs inside the store has long has they on a leash. Also you do not have to ask to use the bathroom unless they are usually locked
A friend of mine dyed her hair while working at Starbucks, and then promptly got told that she would either have to change it back or not be scheduled anymore. She wasn’t scheduled anymore. Also we could only wear black or khaki pants, and black shirts.
They changed it all 3 years ago.
@@brandiebishop8473 that’s good! I worked there before that. My store was really small only 7 partners.
@@br5632 Starbucks definitely changed a little since then lol
I like how Starbucks associates dress all in black. StArbucks by Giorgia st is awesome!
Starbucks employees can be very rude. We no longer frequent this establishment
my mom and a few close friends are allergic to perfume and get very strong headaches if a smell is too strong so the rule about not perfume makes sense to me. So does the rule about nail polish. Nail polish can be toxic if eaten so haveing it on and having it possible fall into a drink is not good
*And the Coffee Dot "Pearl" is where Blonde Babies come from.*
jewlery and watches are associated with servsafe and health department and fda rules...
Thankfully an employee who knew me (again, I worked across the parking lot and was in that location almost every other day before Covid for 2 years) figured out what was going on and brought out my food to the patio and gave the district manager's contact.
me slowing putting my starbucks application in the shredder
Lol sorry but if these rules sound extreme to you, then maybe food service isn’t the job for you. These are pretty basic and quite normal
Ummmmm we can say no
The only challenge I have experienced is that they close at different times. I have had to drive through a Starbucks that closed to find another not far still open. And it wasn’t late at all!
Weird post when cafes are still closed because we're still in a pandemic
Our Starbucks enforces hats doesn't matter what kind of hat.
I've been at SB for 3 years, most of this information is flat out wrong! No one has ever mentioned hair (Except to wear a hair net) color or how you color is not an issue at all. Where did you hear this?
Idk if it's just my store but we have a dress code but do ppl follow it? Nah, we've never got in trouble for wearing what ever we want
theres so much wrong information in this video lol
Most of them are aliens, beasts, and vampires.
Wow, my Starbucks must be chill...
Starbucks is very harsh towards their employee's I heard it too😅😅😅
Hi, can I ask why my photos are being used without my permission?
I would break the rules on purpose
I haven’t seen anyone sit at Starbucks since the pandemic
Expensive Bucks
How is Starbucks stock not completely tanking?
My Starbucks Tiktok went viral lol. Full video on my channel !
damn I can't wear my leather ass-less chaps?!?
My Starbucks says No all the time lol
Who cares about their rules, they still can’t make a drink right.
My gramz is allergic to 90% of all perfume
So I finished this video, where were any weird rules? Everything here is pretty standard practice. Nothing here was weird other than the clickbait title.
Fight for ur rights
why did I watch this?
These are pretty basic rules
Literally every rule made sense
