fishingboats actually sometimes use similar powered motors, +-700w electric motors are used to move the boat yet stay silent to not scare away the fish.

It definitely could! It should have more torque than a 3.5cc nitro outboard and I can say for certain that my thunder tiger.21 has enough to push me in my boat! I got caught in a strong wind in the middle of the lake and paddling with a single paddle was near impossible so I held on to the sides of the vs1 tunnel set the throttle to about 1/3 and leaned over the bow using it like a bow mount trolling motor it dragged me back with no trouble!

@@needmoreboost6369 and if hogher torque is desired for higher efficiency(there is a ideal screw size for the speed and motor power, as well as the boat size/resistance.
one thing almost nobody thinks about is that with good gears you can make a highly efficient gear reduction box to translate part of the speed in torque, or torque in speed in the case of a very high torque motor(for example I had a electric motor with enough torque for a truck,(it actually was a electric truck motor a real one), but most often since people will use the cheaper smaller motors for rc, making a reduction gear box to turn speed into torque a good option).
then there is also the solex clutch(easily available for super cheap, widely produced) and also some even better(but have to typically make yourself) speciffic parts meant speciffically to increase motor efficiency, last years(last 30 years or so) those have hardly be seen or used anymore in mew products since right now often the solution is just throwing a more powerfull or bigger motor into something, but back in the past making small motors was really hard and motors also had very little power, back then such parts where used since using something like that allows you to do something that without such parts needs either a very finely high tech computer tuned clutch or a motor which is around 10 times bigger and stronger. for example the solex itself was super heavy, had lots of fliction at many parts, had quite little torque and still could go pretty fast and be rather efficient.
this is because it allows the motor to always spin around maximum efficiency for the givven load and speed.
in electric motors this gives even more benefits since electric motors are really sensitive to low speeds while super powerfull insanely high speed motors can be made super small and cheap these days, the main problem with small electric motors in heavy loads is often that they lack torque and instead of just not working properly under high torque their energy usage actually skyrockets while their poweroutput greatly drops, it is a effect quite similar to a short cirquit.
allowing a electric motor to run around it's peak efficiency point not only greatly increases power and torque but also greatly reduces powerusage

Coming late-to-the-party, but with a cool suggestion, put your camera gear in the aquarium, fix the outboard motor stand to the bottom of aquarium off to one side InFocus range of the camera, place the assembly in a round kiddie pool, this way the water flow will be consistent and you might even be able to demonstrate a rooster tail.

information if might be practical to use 'self-lubricating' gears in the differential; idk if heat build-up would be an issue. i am referring to the use of gears made of materials that differ in their hardness. the softer material yields, without deforming. this principle is the key to how a stirling engine can run just fine, with no lubrication. in this case, one gear could be SS.

That's pretty sweet, I hope it has the strength to hold together! That said, are you going to add liquid cooling of some sort for the motor? I imagine it's going to get melt-down hot under that cowling during real use on a boat. Maybe wrapping it with copper coils, or a heat sink clamp soldered to copper coils, attached to a pickup tube right behind the prop, or something similar?

That is pretty bitchin! But one problem I do see with that is that it may get really hot. That may cause problems with the Filament depending on what kind it is. So you may have to try fitting a brushless cooling fan system. A while ago I had an idea to make something like that and I made a rendering of a hood that had that integrated into it.

Is the prop 3D printed? I have delved exactly zero into the technology personally. If it is I wonder if simply scaling down one that goes with this motor from Mercury would work?
You said from the start that this was just what you had for a test prop. I do not know anything about 3D printing but I do know outboard powered boats. I noticed once you hit it you had way more power than prop.
If you think it could work Mercury made the SST series starting late 70s. Stainless steel five bladed. We would have put our girlfriends on the street for one. It had a really fast up on plane hole shot and didn't sacrifice top speed but it was expensive af. Might give you an edge if you plan to race it. Discontinued in the 80s but it worked just outrageously expensive.
This is nice work if you decide to make another different one I would love to see a Tower of Power the 1150. That's what we wanted the prop for. 👍👍

Only thing I would change is having the prop shaft extend into the bullet with another bearing. That said.....I'll take 2 please. Thanks! Contact me with information!

What about the oxidation of the ball bearings ? Even stainless steel bearings have rust components.

    • @ethoefler
      @ethoefler  ปีที่แล้ว

True, but part of the maintenance on this is to lubricate and check the bearings before each use. In my testing, I have ran 1 single set of the stainless ball bearings in the kit for 20+ hours of runtime without failure. You could also run cheap steel bearings and just replace them as they wear out. Bearing size is 3mmx7mmx3mm
