Hello, here's my personal feedback as someone who plays with exclusively axes in all solesborne games. Warped Axe is a monster, and outperforms most anything for its weight and speed class. Its unique heavy is also something that can be mastered over time, as it is a bit more brutal than other heavy combos of other weapon types. This works well with players who want to boost charged heavy attacks. The warped axe is super heavy, but truly is an cut above most other light-ish semi-fast speed attacking weapons. The jawbone axe is also insanely strong AR-wise, and does well with cold infusion. It is *not* to be passed up because chright forgot its a strike weapon. This allows axe using players like me to fight enemy types that are weak to strike. Which is a enemy weakness type that demands an answer to for some enemies and bosses. Every melee bonk-bonk player needs one strike weapon. Smash those crystal dudes! The cleaver is insanely badass and not a lot of people understand this. Its second choice at all times to the warped axe. Its scales incredibly with strength just like the warped axe does, and has one of the most brutal g-dam light attack chains in the game. The player will do a rapid overhead chop on enemies that chains really well together and rarely gets intterupted. Its like getting to play an axe murderer against all these monsters. You chop them the fck down. And the heavy attack chases down enemies ans it tracks the enemy REALLY well. Its an example of a weapon where its moveset can make a huge difference with how well you can kill enemies. I seriously recommend using this axe as a way of brutally demolishing weapons even better than other axe types do. Its so easy and fun to use and it wrecks people. As far as the hatchet, i have not used it much. BUT... im afraid we may be overlooking its fast knife-like attack speed. Its top AR doesnt seem to be too bad, and so we have to wonder if a decent AR weapon that can swing thst fast might have a really great DPS. So im not sure we should count the hatchet out. For players who want good strength damage but might need a light load-out equip weight, it could be a good choice for getting more light attacks in per second versus heavier axes. Imagine an axe that does 500 AR getting 3 swings in, in the same time it takes an axe thats heavier with 650 AR to land its first hit or so. Worth experimenting with. Rosus' Summons is actually great for winning trades in pvp since even if you get stunned by the opponent at the start of your WA, skeletons still attack (kinda like getting stunned out of skills such as sacred blade but still having the buff activated). It has the best reach and a very good scaling for str/int builds too, its not a bad weapon at all
On an AR optimized 125 build, blood warped axe is ridiculously powerful. I run it with spinning slash which is stronger on smaller weapons and attacks faster, this combined with the massive bleed buildup results in 400+ bleed buildup per entire spinning slash combo on top of already high base damage of 635 with 60 strength and 50 arcane.
@@bodycounter9386 It's possible if your starting class is Hero. I know it's more optimal to spec into survivability with the remaining points but I like my builds dealing more damage instead.
Highland and Stormhawk are my favorites by far. Highland Axe is nice for the range and fashion while the roar boost is just a nice bonus, and the Stormhawk Axe's weapon skill is super nasty. It costs a lot of FP, especially for a dedicated STR/DEX build without a lot of mind, but it stunlocks and hits so hard. I just used it to grind Rennala into paste after she dropped out of her bubble, skipped right to phase 2. It's definitely my choice on any build that can use it, otherwise the Highland Axe does decently well with infusions + Beast Roar.
one small thing i wanted to mention is that if you want to maximize AR at 150+, an occult warped axe actually still retains an extremely high strength modifier for a non-heavy infusion, so you can get over 800 pure physical AR at 80str/80arc two-handed. it's technically possible, with great runes, talismans and physicks, to get this by 125, while maintaining at least 40 vigor, but this requires using radagon's soreseal, and having low health, so it's not meta-pvp viable. still, might work for an endgame supporting phantom build if you wanted to wow your host with "light weapon" dps.
Thank you again for another vid. Sucks for me, like two weeks ago I maxed out both the Icerind and Rosus Axe to try em out and personally discovered how awful they were. I was a little worried it was just me, but thank you for putting my mind at ease. I wish they didn't make so many bad weapons sometimes haha.
Okay real talk people get super egotistical about these games but skill really isn't that important. The fact that what weapons you use matters more is proof of this. People just get a complex about these games and treat them like they're legit fighting games. Has been that way since DS3, the most tryhard community of the series.
@@sturmmagnunstein1008 🤷 Colossal/UG weapons have always been ass, though. I think the only game where they were even okay was DS2, and that was because roll timing was a lot more tight and stamina management was more important. You could actually catch the average player with only a UG weapon, because of that and the excellent guard break move. Didn't work for high level PvP, but most people don't care about that. They just want it to work against most normal people. Honestly, I think Colossals are better than they were for DS3, mainly because of jump attacks and CR1 mixups/feints. They could definitely afford to steal the base hammer and axe moveset from DS3, though.
@@monsieurdorgat6864 yeah i wish there are frame data for ds2 and 3 for comparison, cuz the numbers in ER are just embarrassing. Granted this isnt a fighting game but man how are we supposed to use a weapon with 52 startup and 80+ on roll cancel? In dog3 we at least had r1 true combo to actually win a trade, but this game there are better abd safer ways to deal more damage, such as PW with bleed/sleep/madness.
@@sturmmagnunstein1008 It kind of is a fighting game though - just not a complex one. It still comes down to active frames, i-frames, spacing. Not gonna cry over r1 true combos though - that mechanic was ass. They just need to buff damage and/or hyper armor frames of colossals, and/or increase their active attack frames so that they can catch people rolling.
Rosus is not bad lol. The gameplay is brain dead though. You just use it for trades. Does not matter how low your poise is too, it'll still connect. The skeletons has a bit of lingering hitbox after slashing too so you can use it early where your opponent will get close thinking they won't get hit but will. It's only hard to land on passive opponents.

Warped axe dual wielding with Hoarah Loux Earthshaker is absolutely devastating! Hoarah Loux Earthshaker can easily poise break Maliketh so he won't jump around and you have time to swing at him multiple times.

While the Rosus Axe is still not great, it's better than the spell version. The ash is faster, and it has the unique property of having the skeletons go off even when your swing is interrupted.
I don't think its necessarily better. For the spell version you can snipe stuff. I don't see why I'd waste an AoW slot ever to hit something in front of me when something like moonveil has twice the damage within half the time for example.
@@Chrightt Does the Skill version has any hyperarmor though? I mean it uses the same animation as the Prayerful Strike AoW, and that one has a ton of hyperarmor.
@@Chrightt I'm not saying it's good, but when compared to the spell it at least has a niche. The spell version has such bad tracking that it's not really useful to snipe with.
Sorry but this is a stupid comment. BTW, you set Jawbone Axe to weight 4.5 in editing, despite it weighing 5.5, like you indirectly alluded in your commentary. A tiny thing, but I thought I'd let you know. And thanks for the vid!
Does two highland axes stack each other... One buffs roars by 7.5% so does two make 15%? I'm in ng+ and want to make more melee.. close range playthrough and they look so good together with a sweet attack pattern
I think for weapon classes like this with a lot of variation in the moveset, using the same one isn't really representative of using the weapons in game right?
Ok Rosus summons is not amazing or anything but I think it’s weird that you showed a clip that showcases one of its more useful qualities (for PvE, definitely trash in PvP), which is that if you get staggered out of the attack, the skeletons will all still hit. You then mentioned that it doesn’t track enemies, but honestly, the tracking on tibias summons is what makes it so bad. Also, it’s good against enemies with shields, which you actually showcase by killing the banished knight (in one cast, without the weapon hit) while it had its guard up after shieldbashing you. Again, not like an amazing skill or anything, but showing a clip of you getting pretty much the full intended utility out of it and then calling it garbage is just kinda strange to me, especially since you spent a short bit there just mashing L2 while you were at a range where most other non projectile weapon arts would have also whiffed. Anyway this comment was very critical lol but I enjoyed the rest of the video and I really appreciate your content, that part just stuck out to me
yeah thats not a thing that exists, "backstep heavy" is literally just backstepping and then doing a heavy attack. Thats like saying theres a rolling heavy attack lol
Yeah, I never said it scaled to arcane though. The damage of Hoarfrost stomp is lower, not the frostbite buildup from the AoW. The weapon itself has lower base frostbite for when you hit people.
this is not really within the scope of the vid, but... why would one want to run an axe in elden ring, anyway? seems other weapon types have a lot more going for them in moveset and range dept.
@@Chrightt It says the discord link in the discription is invalid. I went to your most recent great bow PvP video and the link in the description of that vid is invalid too.

I think I disagree with you about Rosus' axe being bad. It's certainly not great for all situations but the AOW (unless something has changed) is a sleeper because as long as you get the startup animation off, you can get hit out of it and all four skeles will still follow through. The longer I play this game the more I value guaranteed damage like this. Even if it's not jaw-dropping but it's surprisingly consistent and against large or immobile targets it's a workhorse. And as you mentioned, the length is great and AR is respectable for its weapon class. I don't think it's a min-max candidate; I think it's great for hybrid caster/melee builds that want a low FP burst option when they get bored of Carian Slicer supremacy. Other than that, amazing and efficient analysis as always. Thanks for all you do!
Have to disagree with this point. Many attacks are faster with hyper armor which essentially achieves the same effect with double the damage without the need to rely on enemy positioning or size. The problem is it sucks for casters because the weapon art doesn't fully scale to intelligence, so your AR won't be respectable as a caster hybrid. This weapon is predominantly strength investment so you have to min-max for it.
My softcaps video should explain it! I also recommend the defense calculation video if you want to know more about split-scaling. th-cam.com/video/7pwhGJ8btEg/w-d-xo.html
Rosus Axe may be “garbage” in your opinion and that is fair. But in my opinion it is fun and can one shot people. And that’s all that really matters. I have videos of one shots with this axe if anyone wanna peek. Otherwise I love axes regardless of how weak their non existent poise damage.
Nice stuff. I want to bring up something about Highland since its been extensively used in my tests while making a AoW-only magic caster and other fun experiments. It appears it only gets its Roar bonus with itself OR it may be that it actually has better scaling/bonus when using Beast Roar on the actual weapon itself. Beast Roar scales exclusively with Keen, which isn't the best on axes but also not bad on Highland. So, if you really wanna bother running a powerful beast roar, its best to use it ON the weapon not just having it as a backpack. Maybe do what I do and plan to have it as a soft swap on the main hand while hard swapping the mainhand. Also, the Stormhawk Axe is ABOSLUTELY worth it as a spell-stick. Axes are very viable in Invasions though. Handaxe is also a great offhand due to its speed. I run it as a spell-stick with Thunderbolt on a dedicated Dex "lightning mage".
An interesting question is, if one wants to do a pve playthrough while significantly increasing difficult level, what would the loadout be. These means actively not touching any of the more op weapons or ashes. It needs to be less powerful. Seriously looking for a suggestion.

@@bodycounter9386 It's possible if your starting class is Hero. I know it's more optimal to spec into survivability with the remaining points but I like my builds dealing more damage instead.

Personally prefer occult forked vs bleed warped axe mainly bc I find the hatchet gets more phantom hits due to its slightly faster move set
Hell yeah! I've been recommending the warped axe forever, good to see some confirmation from the numbers.
The higher status buildup honestly feels like an oversight, 400 bleed buildup per spinning slash combo that fast is nuts.
And Lost showed that the warped Axe attacks faster than the "normal" axes (not hatchet). If it just didn't look so dumb..

Love to see finally a good in-depth guide about an hardly used weapon class like axes, thanks.
Hope to see a greataxes guide too in the future ;)
Highland and Stormhawk are my favorites by far. Highland Axe is nice for the range and fashion while the roar boost is just a nice bonus, and the Stormhawk Axe's weapon skill is super nasty. It costs a lot of FP, especially for a dedicated STR/DEX build without a lot of mind, but it stunlocks and hits so hard. I just used it to grind Rennala into paste after she dropped out of her bubble, skipped right to phase 2. It's definitely my choice on any build that can use it, otherwise the Highland Axe does decently well with infusions + Beast Roar.
Why is this page not at 1 million subscribers yet his attention to detail is unmatched
one small thing i wanted to mention is that if you want to maximize AR at 150+, an occult warped axe actually still retains an extremely high strength modifier for a non-heavy infusion, so you can get over 800 pure physical AR at 80str/80arc two-handed. it's technically possible, with great runes, talismans and physicks, to get this by 125, while maintaining at least 40 vigor, but this requires using radagon's soreseal, and having low health, so it's not meta-pvp viable. still, might work for an endgame supporting phantom build if you wanted to wow your host with "light weapon" dps.
this video made choosing an axe for my poison build extremely easy, ty
Thank you again for another vid. Sucks for me, like two weeks ago I maxed out both the Icerind and Rosus Axe to try em out and personally discovered how awful they were. I was a little worried it was just me, but thank you for putting my mind at ease. I wish they didn't make so many bad weapons sometimes haha.
Okay real talk people get super egotistical about these games but skill really isn't that important. The fact that what weapons you use matters more is proof of this.
People just get a complex about these games and treat them like they're legit fighting games. Has been that way since DS3, the most tryhard community of the series.
@@monsieurdorgat6864 its called weapon matchup but indeed weapon balancing is pretty ass right now. Just look at colossal weapons
Warped Axe has different AR going from Sacred to Flame Art.
Perfect timing. I recently started an axe playthrough
Stormhawk Axe. No contest that AOW is VERY strong.
Chrightt , love these breakdown vids you do on the weapon archetypes. Subbed so you hopefully produce more of them!
All of the different axe movesets are pretty fun to use. Especially the warped axe
Why not give them the old winged knight twin axe moveset? It'd at least make it viable
@@flippisni the ds2 moveset was great
i love using warped axe with hoarah lox's earthshaker (idk if that's the right name). It does a lot of damage
Watched your amazing Armored Core videos, and now I'm finding your Elden RIng vids!
Hey Chrightt love your vids. Can you make a vid about the old lords talisman, what buffs it exactly prolongs. I already tested it on the Lord of Blood's Exultation talisman. Unfortunately it does not work.
It works on sorceries/incantation buffs only.
Sacrificial axe + sacred blade actually feels quite fun now ^^ I don't have a way to do high level testing but so far in the mid game itd doing alright
I cannot wait for the video on the axe’s bigger brother, the Greataxe
Since the speed buff those are really good, not katanas or spears good but they all right.
@@reynauldwhistles2338 Indeed, its also what I decided to try out when I started Elden Ring, when I did mostly Straight swords nad Ultra Great Swords throughout Dark Souls
Warped axe dual wielding with Hoarah Loux Earthshaker is absolutely devastating! Hoarah Loux Earthshaker can easily poise break Maliketh so he won't jump around and you have time to swing at him multiple times.
I heard they're Currently using the serpent slayer greatspear, for similar reasons as the hatchet and because It has no reguirements, tho they're also doing a glitch which Swaps it's aow with the pizza cutter's... While keeping the damage and range It has on the rykard fight.
Good info! They also use the serpent for glitchless runs?
@@Chrightt yep, general runs, it's a high damage, somber weapon with no reguirements, it's really good.
Wake up. Chrightt posted
YES I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE!!
@@eclipzex77 No hyperarmor but the skeletons attack regardless of you getting interrupted.
@@Chrightt I'm not saying it's good, but when compared to the spell it at least has a niche. The spell version has such bad tracking that it's not really useful to snipe with.
Sorry but this is a stupid comment. You use the moonveil example of not wanting to use the WA(which is a stupid statement because why use other WA at all) but then suggest the spell for sniping when there are better spells you can use to snipe? The tibia spell that can miss on a slowly walking target because it has 0 tracking vs the AoW that guarantees a hit(and win trades) no matter if you get interrupted. Seriously? Did you even test this?
Hi Chrightt, are you planning on doing an in-depth breakdown for greataxes?
Yes, but it'll be the last one :(
idk, rosus axe weapon art can dish out some serious damage, way more than any other axe. also if youre interrupted and dont swing the summons will still continue their skill. perhaps 5 months ago this was not the case, or i think you havent tried that weapon fully
Hang on, does the warped axe get the light barbaric roar? That would be pretty nasty for status buildup.
I rather like the forked hatchet, but only when dual-weilded and using quick step.
Maybe they were originally meant to be daggers. 🤔
nice video
you couldve shown that u can actually run circles and shit with the celebrant cleaver/iron cleaver heavy attack, thats prolly one of the most unique attacks in the game
BTW, you set Jawbone Axe to weight 4.5 in editing, despite it weighing 5.5, like you indirectly alluded in your commentary. A tiny thing, but I thought I'd let you know.
And thanks for the vid!
It also has a unique trait of dealing strike damage instead of standard.
Storm hawk is great for quick swapping both pve/PvP as it's ash shreds
Thanks very much for this video!
The Highland appears to beg to be offhanded to a Roar-infused Pure-Strength
Sacrificial ax is MY FCKN JAM
The one annoying thing is that the regular light attacks can over-shoot some enemies.
Really enjoyed the video. Keep it up
Damn you revealed the warped Axes secret, I knew this day would come. I guess other people will start running it cold infused now.
What are you wearing? The cape?
Rosus’ axe was ranged when they first released the game. It was kinda fun but still bad. Now it’s just bad, which makes me sad.
Does two highland axes stack each other... One buffs roars by 7.5% so does two make 15%? I'm in ng+ and want to make more melee.. close range playthrough and they look so good together with a sweet attack pattern
barbaric roar on warped axe is a true combo. Ridiculous in pvp.
I think for weapon classes like this with a lot of variation in the moveset, using the same one isn't really representative of using the weapons in game right?
Chrightt does the Highland Axe boost Dragon Breath Spells? Figured I'd ask since the Roar medallion was patched recently
It does not boost dragon breath.
Anyway this comment was very critical lol but I enjoyed the rest of the video and I really appreciate your content, that part just stuck out to me
thanks for the info
…backstep heavy attack?
yeah thats not a thing that exists, "backstep heavy" is literally just backstepping and then doing a heavy attack. Thats like saying theres a rolling heavy attack lol
Miracles for pve im still waiting.
Thks for the video.
FINALLY!!
The offhand hand axe is still a good tool in pvp
Not really
I thought Frostbote build up didn't scale with anything? Isn't it static, unlike Bleed (Arcane)?
Yeah, I never said it scaled to arcane though. The damage of Hoarfrost stomp is lower, not the frostbite buildup from the AoW. The weapon itself has lower base frostbite for when you hit people.
Rosus Axe's weapon art is better than the spell lmao
Can we do Greataxe video next? :)

this is not really within the scope of the vid, but...
why would one want to run an axe in elden ring, anyway? seems other weapon types have a lot more going for them in moveset and range dept.
For PVE they're ok. Someone who likes axes can pass just fine. For PVP... stormhawk for the weapon art and highland for the passive. That's about it.

It's pretty fun in PVE, here's a Storm Stomp combo: th-cam.com/video/L_G8mG6bUjc/w-d-xo.html
Rosus is far from garbage, but it does take a little time invested to learn how to use it efficiently.
What outfit is that
I think I disagree with you about Rosus' axe being bad.
This weapon is predominantly strength investment so you have to min-max for it.
why 56 strength instead of 54 with 54 you still get 81 while two handed
My softcaps video should explain it! I also recommend the defense calculation video if you want to know more about split-scaling. th-cam.com/video/7pwhGJ8btEg/w-d-xo.html
Axe me why I don’t use asks
What is the outfit being worn in the beginning lol.
Ronin armor and Exile greaves, Im not sure about the hood but I think it's either the Highwayman one or the page hood
Rosus Axe may be “garbage” in your opinion and that is fair. But in my opinion it is fun and can one shot people. And that’s all that really matters. I have videos of one shots with this axe if anyone wanna peek. Otherwise I love axes regardless of how weak their non existent poise damage.
Yeah, sure. The point is for efficiency. I can kill people with torches. It doesn't make it good.
@@Chrightt In that case just use hyper bleed builds : )
Use stuff I don't suggest would be a good idea xD
