All of them were of German descent and of German music. This kind of performance is rare nowadays. Suitner chose to play the Peter Gülke version. At the time, musicians from the East Bloc, not just East Berlin, came to Japan for other reasons. It was easy to sneak out of a Tokyo hotel in the morning and rush to the US Embassy. For them, Japan was also a gateway to the wall-less West. It has been 35 years since the end of the Cold War. Stories like this are still passed down and musicians from the former Eastern Europe still patronize Japan.
Now I still remember that, for a short while after the maestro and the orchestra members went back to East Berlin, nothing other than the video sources had been made up into a 'lazor disk', now extinct media form, and was sold in Japan. To my great sorrow, I couldn't get a copy, although the performance is---as you know--- excellent, like an fully activated volcano ! Thank for your upload.
Bravo! Amazing and powerful performance. Timpanist is nice. I was moved. Maestro Suitner is a great conductor. Thanks.

Vielen Dank für das Hochladen!

Yeah it is from a laser disc sold in Japan
Heut wäre er 100 geworden... Danke Otmar.
Exciting!!!!
00:30 - I. Allegro con brio

He truly is Captain Flappy
Have you seen Gennady Rozhdestvensky?
Unutmayın burda türkler de var
