I would vote for him, but. The same thing would happen to Jon that happened to Bernie, the wealthy and both parties wouldn't allow him to do anything to disrupt their control and guns are a huge control issue for them. George Washington warned Americans about this exact problem in his farewell address. He warned that political parties will fight for party policy over what's best for the country and its people. The second Amendment specifically states, "A WELL-REGULATED MILITIA, being necessary for a free STATE, the right of the people (IN THE MILITIA) shall not be infringed." meaning the States can have a state-run militia and the militias of the time were civilian military reservist, similar to our national guard today, and could be called to battle by the federal government at any time. If they wanted all Americans to carry weapons, they wouldn't have used the word "MILITIA", it would've been "People" or "Citizens" if they wanted all Americans to carry weapons. In 2008 the SCOTUS changed the definition of "militia" in the document to mean all citizens, that is not what it says and wasn't the framer's intention.

It's funny, I think it's at least loosely been the role of the jester to objectively criticize kings or other leaders under the guise of comedy for centuries. I think (am not a psychologist) that we have defense mechanisms that stop us from being receptive to information that's counter to our established ideas on a subject, but comedy softens it and is easier to receive since its primary purpose is for laughs. like, growing up, I knew that Monty Python's Life of Brian is incredibly sacrilegious and makes fun of Christians, which being from a Christian family and having those values ingrained I might be appalled by it and reject it? but since it's a comedy and it's exaggerated, I can watch it and at the very least accept criticism about a topic that I wouldn't really think about otherwise. I'm still a Christian, but I can also understand the criticism and question why I believe what I do, which is a strict positive.
In 1972 my mom called the cops on my abusive dad and the cops showed up, asked my mom if he had guns, she said yes and they took the guns from the house and told my dad he could come to the station and get them when he was sober. Oh, the return of Jon is such a gift in these months before the most important elections ever... And it makes me smile so much. A Dutch historian who is very relieved.
Two reasons, because our constitution establishes gun ownership as a basic right of being an American, and because gun registry could be used by the state to locate and confiscate weapons purchased legally. Personally, I’m okay with gun registry but I do think it’s kinda silly when you can very easily buy a gun second hand with no registry illegally, and file off the serial number.
@@theAverageJoe25 A better argument is comparing the right to bear arms and the right to vote. We have multiple stipulations stating voting to be a right of all citizens, but we still have to register to vote. So unless the more extreme 2A lobby also advocates for voting without registration, they still have an inconsistent logic. The demand for registration ad regulation is not incompatible with a Constitutional right.
Ted Cruz literally says that we shouldn't do background checks between two private law abiding citizens. Doesn't that presuppose they are law abiding? Isn't the whole fing point to make sure they are in fact law abiding? Not violent criminals or mentally unstable?
I’ve been thinking the same thing for a long time. The term “law-abiding citizen” is tossed out like “thoughts and prayers” and both mean nothing. As you say, we need a means to determine who is going to be a “law-abiding citizen” who is responsible enough to own a weapon. I think that’s called gun control….
They also seem to think that "law-abiding" is a status that never changes in a lifetime. You never know what's gonna happen in your life that might make you forget about being law-abiding, like the mental illness problem. They say it's a problem but it's a problem that can happen to anyone at anytime. Yet, they do nothing about it.
The only way to enforce a background check for every single transfer, a national registry would have to be implemented. Federal law prohibits a national registry (thankfully). And even if they were to try to implement it, how many people do you actually think would comply?
the problem with europe is they simp for the US. whatever immorality path the US walks down, europe begs to follow. this is why they don't need guns. they tow the line of their master already so they never will need to fight for anything, meanwhile in the US, being the hegemon of the world, there is a vicious struggle within for freedom and liberty. the US actually needs guns, if the pandemic hustle proved anything it was that the government is bought by the corporate sector completely and will enact draconian laws for profit, and so, the minor threat of private guns in the hands of everyday citizens, it is a constant warning to back off.... and i think necessary in this hyper corrupt predatory capitalist world.
It’s a double edged sword here. Guns are so common that most people get guns because there are so many people who have guns. Add to that, calling the police means waiting for hours for a response so the onus is on yourself to be capable of defending yourself or your family. That’s why I bought my first handgun, I had a weird neighbor who was filming my kid. I called the police about it, they didn’t come until the next day and said nothing could be done (the guy was filming in my windows!) so I bought a gun that week.) In truth, we have lots of crazy people in the US and we should have asylums open again (most were closed in the 1970s) but since they’re not, regular people have to protect themselves.
I'll disagree. Do you have a mental health issue? Have you ever met anyone with a serious mental health issue? Do you know that writing a manifesto more than likely is a tell about someones mental health? Ethan Crumbley is a prime example of mental health problems getting so out of completely out of control. We have a huge problem in the USA and not taking care of our people with mental health. Yet, the guy that spoke about mental health in the worst way (in the video) So I'll agree with you on that representation.
If their answer is "criminals don't follow laws" then why do we have laws at all? Conservatism consists of on proposition, to wit: "There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect." The fact is, the law cannot protect anyone unless it binds everyone, and it cannot bind anyone if it does not protect everyone.
Even so people will ALWAYS break laws 😑while it can’t prevent people from getting guns 😑but it does reduse the impact as trying is better then not trying at all 😑

Imagine having to register a car and every time that car changes owner you have to register it again. Can you imagine how impossibly complicated that would be. No way that would work.

How is it that comedians bring more truth than any news media. Jon is a genius
Oh thats just because our whole society is a tragic comedy. He has got lots of material to work with lol
because comedians don't strive to appear neutral. Neutrality especially perceived neutrality is not the same as objectivity.

Marketing and lobbying that's been going for 50ish years give or take, short and long of it
The argument those against common sense gun regulation use is that gun ownership is a right and driving is not
Bill of rights doesn't apply to drivers license. 2nd amm.
@@theAverageJoe25
A better argument is comparing the right to bear arms and the right to vote.
We have multiple stipulations stating voting to be a right of all citizens, but we still have to register to vote. So unless the more extreme 2A lobby also advocates for voting without registration, they still have an inconsistent logic.
The demand for registration ad regulation is not incompatible with a Constitutional right.
"TRUTH BE TOLD"!!!!!!!!💯
Wow, I got really depressed when I realized this is an old clip of the daily show. It’s been that long and this issue is still not resolved.
Ted Cruz literally says that we shouldn't do background checks between two private law abiding citizens. Doesn't that presuppose they are law abiding? Isn't the whole fing point to make sure they are in fact law abiding? Not violent criminals or mentally unstable?
I noticed that also. Add this point: if there are no gun control laws to go against, everyone is law abiding. Circular logic.
Cruz is up for reelection & he's never done anything for average Texan. With his security, he doesn't need to worry about his safety.
The only way to enforce a background check for every single transfer, a national registry would have to be implemented. Federal law prohibits a national registry (thankfully). And even if they were to try to implement it, how many people do you actually think would comply?
Some random european here (belgium) Im so glad we dont have (a lot) of guns here.
the problem with europe is they simp for the US. whatever immorality path the US walks down, europe begs to follow. this is why they don't need guns. they tow the line of their master already so they never will need to fight for anything, meanwhile in the US, being the hegemon of the world, there is a vicious struggle within for freedom and liberty. the US actually needs guns, if the pandemic hustle proved anything it was that the government is bought by the corporate sector completely and will enact draconian laws for profit, and so, the minor threat of private guns in the hands of everyday citizens, it is a constant warning to back off.... and i think necessary in this hyper corrupt predatory capitalist world.
Weren’t yall invaded by the Nazis? Should read a history book sometime

Facts, the 2nd was for state militias, the state militias became the national guard, I can see extending that to the other branches of the military, sure, but technically cops and civilians shouldn't have guns, the only reason that's allowed is because of how some far-right crazy "interpreted" the 2nd, which is nuts. As a liberal firearm owner, we desperately need standardized federal gun control. We need universal background checks, restrictions on certain types of weapons and storage requirements.
However, when these restrictions are put in place they need to be in place for everybody. If you look at the laws in states that have already passed assault weapon bans several of them have clauses where police and military can buy whatever they want. I disagree with that entirely.
Gun control is obsolete.

Been my opinion we need a firearm owners license/s. It's up to the person buying the firearm to have taken and passed the NRA safe gun owners tests, gotten a full mental examination, and had a back ground check, before taking a firearms firing test to prove you know how to safely use a fire arm. Then you get your license so all a firearm retailer or seller has to do is check your license.
A different license for collectors to own full auto weapons.

These people always blame mental health and video games. Im rather tired of hearing that. Also, as a gamer, I can tell you we dont go thinking video games as real and know you dont shoot people.
The argument that guns don't cause gun violence is ridiculous. There are other factors that cause violence but if guns weren't there that violence would not be gun violence.
Yes and other countries aren't making up for it with knife violence. The United States has by far the highest gun ownership rate of any first world country, the least amount of gun oversight of any first world country, and the highest rate of firearm violence of any first world country. And we have to stop idiotically pretending that those aren't all tied together.

Great clip. We do need to do something about mental health but, apparently it's too expensive for Insurance companies to help America. Agreed, we need more extensive back ground checks, before we sell the GUN!!!
Drivers are legally required to be licensed to operate a car, much as gun owners are required to get safety licenses (at least in California). And it's possible for relatives to sell or transfer cars to relatives or even strangers who have drivers licenses, no problem. Clearly the license doesn't get in the way.
So why couldn't mandatory background checks be a required step in getting a gun safety license? While we're at it, ensure that there are severe penalties for obtaining guns without a license or providing guns to someone who doesn't have a license
Using other usurpations of individual rights doesn't refute them in any way.
