    On the flip side , Canada still has the highest percentage of firearms per person in the western nations next to the US . The latest series of regulations has polarized a large voting block in opposition to the current administration so that should stop the slide. We’d like to see the handgun and AR sales freeze reversed , particularly for competitive sports shooters but that would be a longer process once the new government is in. In the meantime , we can still buy all sorts of rifles and PCC’s including non- AR platform centerfire semi- autos , without restrictions on how many you can own . We don’t have SBR rules so we can buy factory complete short barrel rifles with stocks etc . They tried to go after those but the so far the backlash has held off any more bans.
    IPSC/IDPA& Multigun is still going strong and our members can travel internationally with their gear to compete and go to USPSA matches etc. But , ya , if folks can’t buy more complete handguns it will slow down eventually. We can still buy any non- serialized handgun parts so there’s a number of platforms that can still be maintained easily . It sucks right now but I don’t think it’s hopeless yet

    • @GLOCKsh00ter24
      @GLOCKsh00ter24 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If they can't completely get rid of the guns they want to ban, they'll eventually go after the ammo. I'm surprised they haven't yet. 100 round/year limit seems reasonable. What kind of maniac needs to shoot more than ONE HUNDRED rounds in a year anyway?

    • @stovepipe8966
      @stovepipe8966 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GLOCKsh00ter24 Ya - other countries do have restrictions on how much ammo you can stock but it all depends cynically on how much political hay can be made by attempting to enforce that . Folks may wake eventually up to the fact that gun crime is rising despite these laws because it’s of course not driven by legal licensed owners . Canada is a vast wilderness nation - firearms are part of the culture just like south of the border . It’s only city folk that don’t remember that .

    Optics Question: For competition use, which optics do you find has the least distortion and clearest glass? My duty guns have ACROS and MPS because they are so free of distortion, but a small enclosed emitter optic like those doesn’t seem appropriate for competition. In your experience which large window open emitter optic is the clearest and most free of distortion?

    Thanks Ben, I shot 72% on a stage when you were here for the provincials in Alberta before things went for $#it. Was pretty proud of that. Would love to see more USA/international support for us IPSC shooters. You got most of it right, in Canada, you can't currently buy or sell a handgun. That sucks. Means IPSC/and USPSA (which we do shoot up here), could wither, unless we have support from our international friends. Yes we are limited to 10 rounds in handguns, and I personally have no problem with that, would love to see your comment on IPSC/USPSA being able to shoot a whole match with only one or two reloads - the "P" in practical for me at least goes against 20+ round mags. Sure is fun though to remove the limiters and shoot in the US, even though half the time I change at ten and the squad screams "Canadian".

  • @averyw2200
    @averyw2200 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hey Ben, how big of an impact (if at all) do you think the 10 round mags restriction has on skill development? Specifically, being a canadian open shooter down 17 or so rounds, it feels difficult to fully focus when doing drills like designated target, as the flow is constantly being broken up by reloads.

    One other point: when TrudeauCo started the handgun freeze they did it in fits and starts, because obviously they didn’t know what they were doing. So what happened when the notion of a handgun freeze was introduced? MASSIVE SALES.
    Trudeau became the second best handgun salesman (behind only Obama) as people just started panic buying like crazy. In that time between they announced their plans to when it was finalized (somewhere around a year) probably 10 years worth of handguns were sold.

  • @richcurren6888
    @richcurren6888 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    To clarify on the handgun thing: the importation, sale, and transfer of handguns is prohibited. So yes, saying it’s frozen is accurate, and you can’t even hand a handgun down when you die. There’s been no talk of a handgun buyback, at least not that I’ve heard of, and that likely for two reasons: one they aren’t prohibited, and two the AR buyback “program” has been a complete disaster to get off the ground. Challenges include everything from some provinces telling the Federal Gov to get bent, to Canada Post saying they don’t ever want to be in possession of those guns (or deal with the folks that are dropping them off). So as dumb and illogical as the Federal Gov is, it seems a handgun buyback isn’t gonna happen before they figure that out (and they are nowhere near to figuring that out).
    PCCs are actually a little less restricted, at least even it comes to the whole pistol brace nonsense the US is dealing with. The selection of PCCs is more limited, of course, but they are totally legal (technically referred to as “restricted”, same as handguns, but all that means is a slightly different license you have to get which is really no harder than the “non-restricted” license). Magazine capacity however still is restricted to 10 rounds, which of course sucks.
    The licensing thing is really not a big deal IMO, and the things you learn in a two day course everyone should know … and you spend the weekend with likeminded people talking about guns. Not so terrible.
    I can also put a stock on my Shockwave, which is nice … but overall yes, it’s not super awesome lol.

Will Canada allow you to bring them in as an instructor doing something for the Government? Obviously bans do no apply to government business, but there's still red tape.

    One of the hardest, and this might surprise you, is Israel. Theres a lot of hoops and a lot of restrictions. Even if you can get one, and for the most part its military, Police, and security, there are limits as to how many and how much ammo. A citizen who can get a handgun permit is only allowed 100 rounds a year and 50 on your person. Amongst the adult population, excluding military and Police, only 2.6% of Israeli's legally own handguns. Civilians cant own long guns under any circumstance. More so a civilian has to wait until they are 27yo to apply, if they had no military conscription, and must show a specific "need" for the handgun. This conflicts with the American perception of an "Israeli settler with an Uzi under every rock" belief and its a big reason there was such a slaughter on 7 Oct., sadly. The truth is Israel is very restricted.
