Thank you Jason, I have been a show host for the last few years and am now entering the world of solo podcasts. I have literally looked at 100s of videos and you answered all the questions I had in 7:42! I have been struggling to record my first episode for weeks due to the anxiety. After listening to you I record six episodes last night! Keep up the good work my man! Would love to interview you one day 💯
That’s awesome, Duane! Glad to hear you got over the hump and made things happen! Keep going…the more you record solo, the more natural you’ll get and the easier it will become.
It sounds like you have a strategy in place that works for you. And that's what's most important. Keep on doing the things that keep podcasting fun for you!
Thanks for this. I started out solo, then tried to add in my friends for a more genuine experience, and my patience is starting to wane... For now, I'm going to return to solo podcasting, with a better understanding of it, a hell of a lot more freedom in how I want to convey my thoughts, and how I want to run the thing.
Good advice!!! I had a cohost… But I’m on my own for the time being… So I’m wanting to go at it alone. I’ve done it before… Years ago… But I’m trying to plan it!
This was quite excellent. I've seen a few videos on this topic, but this was the most strategic, to the point, and easily doable; especially for beginners. Thanks for the info!
I think the one most important thing to know is podcasting as well as vid casting is a way for the average Joe to get his ideas out to the world instead being locked up in your head! The average Joe isn’t a professional broadcaster he’s going to flub up until he gets the hang of it, there’s going to be dead air, mic pops!
You’re definitely right, Greg. We all start somewhere and we usually aren’t very good when we start. It takes practice, patience, and a dedication to getting a little better each day to develop a skill set that makes your efforts easier. That doesn’t just apply to podcasting, videos, etc…that’s how all of life works!
I had to stop my podcast because of how difficult it is to count on people to show up for a Conversation and those who do you cant have them on every single week. Great advice im planning on re start recording for my podcast, this time SOLO
I used to do a podcast and brought on a Co-host. It really lost its way after then I think. Was good fun but my new one is going to be solo. Thanks for the tips!
Bullet points would be the easiest!! Then just free talk about each one, I couldn’t imagine writing it out word for word, at least for me, referring to my BP then talking about each topic would work greatly for me, kinda a raw feel & way of going about it, good advice also thx man!!!
You’re very welcome! I’ve done both methods - writing things out word for word and bullet points. I definitely prefer the bullet points. Scripting out that much content is A LOT OF WORK. And, it can come off as being too scripted and something that’s just read. I always recommend doing what you’re most comfortable with, but free flowing with bullet points is definitely easier to manage. I appreciate your comment!
This is very helpful information. I started my podcast exactly one year ago. I’ve been solo the entire time and I have not interviewed anyone yet. I’ve appeared sparingly on a couple other shows. All of the things you mentioned, are things I felt starting. I did not script my episodes and I still don’t. I use bullet points and I have source material that I am usually working off of. I think that being authentically yourself … with mistakes is helpful. Happy podcasting everyone and keep up the great work! @Jason Cercone
It sounds like you’ve found a great groove for your solo podcast! Do you have any additional tips or successful strategies that could prove useful for other solo podcasters?
@@jasoncercone I would say don't be afraid to be goofy and unscripted at times. I have found success in creating and producing content on topics that I would want to listen to. That is even if it is not exactly "my niche" or topics I cover the majority of the time. I think that it is important to not be afraid to experiment with different things because if you don't... it will be hard to grow and evolve. Additionally, telling stories & practicing the ability to tell a story is vital. That can be done simply by adding in examples of things you have experienced or referencing things in culture such as a show or movie and tying it back into the point you are trying to make. That helps you to relate to the listener & makes for a more enjoyable listening experience. Lastly, I found that thinking of the listener and listening to your podcast from time to time not as a podcaster but from the perspective of someone who is listening for the first time will help you to figure out which direction you want to go. An opportunity to do that is... play your podcast when you are on a walk or out running some errands and see if you pick up on things that are good and try to amplify those and focus on areas that are weak or poorly executed that can be improved upon. I hope that this information was helpful to you or anyone viewing this message. Positive Vibes and Energy, Montay
Be authentic and be that person who doesn't care about going on a short tangent here and there (I do sports wagering and fantasy info and views) and people love to feel they are sitting at the local sports bar or at a game talking with a buddy. Alot off people don't have that other person in their lives. So make them feel you are that person. And they will relate to you. Never script anything just make sure I keep it under a hour and don't try to give to much info that over loads the audience. Have fun is correct. That's the huge thing
I 🧡 these tips Jason . U have a great clear speaking voice. The more I listened to these tips it made me come to the conclusion to treat solo podcasting like u would as a public speaker lol 🤷🏾♀ except u aren’t physically in front of people lol makes a lot of sense… common sense haha
Thank you for the kind words! And you’re absolutely correct. It’s like you’re talking to an auditorium of 10,000 people, but in reality, it’s just you free flowing and communicating your message. The more you do it, the more natural it becomes.
Yep great points. I'd add/ reccomend to talk about something you're very passionate &/or knowledgeable about (NOT something you only feel compelled to do). You'll find it flows better, easier to record, less editing necessary usually. I have done a couple quality podcasts of sorts without Any outline notes, but usually I find it leads to ranting and going down too many tangents (can forget what you meant to initially expand upon). Nothing wrong with that if having fun, but doesn't make for smooth quality podcasts much more than not. Important to at least have an outline with major points and supporting points. And yeah, unless it's something autobiographical or something, I wouldn't reccomend making a script. Seems like it'd be easier/ lead to less editing, but I've found it doesn't really cut down on editing, and it won't sound as natural... & yeah, it's not just 1 person talking, and for those that can't get over the superficial "isolation", solo podcasting probably isn't for you. Just like a professor giving a lecture, it can be more conversational than anything, bringing up different perspectives and ideas behind a topic, or story telling, or whatever one's style is
Great points for sure. Scripting can be tricky, can come off as "read," and takes a lot more time to create. Creating bullet points will allow you to speak more freely and stay on point so you don't go on too many tangents. Thank you for your comment!
Thank you for these helpful tips! I'm not into podcasting -at least right now- but I love to share some of my thoughts from time to time and usually I just write them but what I want to share this time is too long so I wanted to record it instead and I'm SO not used to record myself talking 😅 now thanks to your video I know what to focus on before doing it
Thank You so much for these amazing tips. I will try to use them in my next episode's recording. I began my Solo Podcast Channel in April 2022, named, "EXPERIENCES & PERSPECTIVES". I believe using your methods will definitely help me grow my Podcast.
Too me solo podcasting is easier than a guest podcast I can talk about things I'm interested about and have a lot of things I could talk about and have fun with it
While staying in one account I can podcast all these three categories or programs. You can help me in this like sports, business information and historical places.
sir when i create account on anchor podcast he says choose category which has only one but my category 3 sports, historical places and business these are my niche this i can do on one account you help me in this thanks alot sir
Sir Can you please tell me how many topics I can talk about in a podcast account? When I created the account, you can talk about only one category in the category. Reply me thanks alot
Not sure I totally understand the question, but if you’re referring to the categories you choose when you first open a hosting account, you typically get to choose between 1-3. Pick the categories that relate closest to the content you plan to cover on your podcast. Is that what you were referring to?
I'm getting this info in 2023 and it's fresh...thanks a million

I actually script out my entire podcast episode as my personality actually comes out when I write I'm terrible doing things on the fly
It sounds like you have a strategy in place that works for you. And that's what's most important. Keep on doing the things that keep podcasting fun for you!
I'm the opposite, but as long as it works for you. I love not having a script!
@@GhostGuitars i wish i could not need a script but I know I'm very bad at speaking on short notice
I script every word except a short live tasting bit every episode. Every. Single. Word. Works for me.
Im mid way! I write bullet points and fly by inbetween the points.
Thank you for this advice. I started solo and loved it, but then felt I needed someone else to make it interesting. I want to go solo again
Thanks for this. I started out solo, then tried to add in my friends for a more genuine experience, and my patience is starting to wane...
