Same here. I played for hours perfecting my lines with Weezer's Blue Album blasting. This game's what I think of every time I hear a song from that album. I'd love to find an emulator so I can play it again!
I used to rent this game a lot as a kid and loved it. I just picked it up at the used game store. The jungle track still looks incredible, even by today's standards. Music is superb, and the controls are fun and rewarding when you get the hang of them.
I had this and I loved it so much I used to cut through the field of just play around in there, can't remember what stage it was. As for renting games, I used to rent Star Wars rouge squadron a lot, in the end it would of been cheaper if mum or dad just bought it lol.
This brings back so many amazing memories. Looking with a more technical eye now, this has to be one of the most advanced suspension modeling systems on the 64. Hats off to the tech director, good choice using differential calculus. That has to be how they modeled this, unbelievable. I'm super curious of the implementation.
Oh my god same!!! Me & my brother would paint cars on this shit for hourssss, I just spent an hour trying to remember what game it was & finally figured it out
I love how the cars have the prototype unfinished looking 90's 3D , with advanced ( for It's time ) fun physics. 5th gen Is my favorite , then 3rd gen , then 4th gen. Top Gear 1 and 2 , along with F-Zero , and Super Mario Kart = Best SNES racing games. Nothing Is truly "old school" It's all preference.
Holy crap! I used to play this game relentlessly back in '97/98. I loved the instant replays. It was so unique back then. In fact, I hold those instant replays over many other later series' replays.
I remember leaving the game running when I left the house because I unlocked the next level of cars lol - Type IP was my favorite - why ON EARTH could they not implement cartridge gamesaves?? (I realize now that this was cheaper)
I loved it when i played it on N64...i hated it when i played it on emulation. To this day this is the only rally game i love...and i don't play racing games :D
I loved and hated this game as a kid and now. The physics are floaty, so making any turns on uneven terrain almost always ends in me wiping out. The cars also are like tanks, You can't make them budge an inch. I doubt the opponents even have any real AI, It feels like they're stuck in a set path, which could explain why they're spread so far apart, so they don't cause a 19 car pileup when one bot's path overlaps another But I loved the idea of an off road racer, I loved the little shortcuts, the musics nice. I could never get passed the first season as a kid, so I just would try causing pileups by stopping in front of the other cars. I just bought a top gear rally cart to try beating it.
I had so much fun with this game, even though my youngself was kinda disappointed that it felt more like a time trail than an actual race. I don't remember the races being long, :O
There were two different versions: the NTSC carts had this one th-cam.com/video/7MwVGunH45k/w-d-xo.html and the PAL + NTSCJ regions got this one th-cam.com/video/Z_y1Vd6QUmU/w-d-xo.html
"Hello .... my name is Gustavo and let me ask you is I could capitalize the image of your detonated and do it commented, because my pc is very weak and I do not have a video game, of course we Credits and in the comment during the game I will talk about your channel and make your channel link available ... I await your response ... thanks ... "
This game made me regret of buying a N64 istead of a Playstation back then (well in the end I also bought a PS1 some years later :P ) I was so butthurt, because I was going to my friend's house and he was playing TOCA and Colin McRae that looked so real with great graphics. One day I decide to trade Mario Kart (big mistake) for this game. When I plugged it in, i expected amazing graphics since N64 was supposed to be a very powerful console and I was so disappointed man... I forgot everything when I bought a PS1 and bought the BEST racing game of all time. Gran Turismo 1 .
I really miss this game. I played it for hours without a memory card good times
Cube Williams facts lol
I used to play the fuck outta this as a kid. I still might have it around my house somewhere. 😩
@@monkeyboy991000 you guys want a ROM of the game?
Same here. I played for hours perfecting my lines with Weezer's Blue Album blasting. This game's what I think of every time I hear a song from that album. I'd love to find an emulator so I can play it again!
@@pocketstationman6364 yes, please!!!! Can you give me? I’ll really appreciate!
This game has one of the best vehicle physics I've ever experienced with a gamepad. I love the controls on this.
Actually felt it

This game is pure gold, I played like many others here without a memory pack and still spend lots of hours playing
I spent hours painting cars on this🤣
Wish they Remaster for all Systems I have game on N64 man this be bad ass game in 2021
Oh my god same!!! Me & my brother would paint cars on this shit for hourssss, I just spent an hour trying to remember what game it was & finally figured it out
So beautiful to see this game again after 20 years! I didn't even remember the title! Was one of my first 3d racing games
Man, to this day emulation can't do this game justice. It looks and plays SO GOOD on the original console.
this game has some pretty cool bugs^^ i've played the sh*t out of this with my brother as a child
My childhood what I played.
Woa! Now there is a guy who knows how to do things, recording from the original console.
Fuck, the music was gold

Here in Brazil, this franchise is legendary. Especially the first game of this series ...
Holy crap! I used to play this game relentlessly back in '97/98. I loved the instant replays. It was so unique back then. In fact, I hold those instant replays over many other later series' replays.
You didn't fuck up the aspect ratio, it's a miracle of TH-cam.
Sure seems like it these days.
Agreed. Still is a half decade later.
We need a remake of this one.
We need more games like Top Gear Rally.
Why is that?
-Brian
Amazing soundtrack
I remember leaving the game running when I left the house because I unlocked the next level of cars lol - Type IP was my favorite - why ON EARTH could they not implement cartridge gamesaves??
(I realize now that this was cheaper)
anybody remember unlocking the mirror car?
I remember this was the first rally game I ever played. Back in 1998 or so
I loved it when i played it on N64...i hated it when i played it on emulation. To this day this is the only rally game i love...and i don't play racing games :D
I love jungle music.
First Seasons: Spring
Introduction: 0:00
Race 1: Coastline/Sunny: 0:31
Race 2: Jungle /Sunny: 6:19

Barrel rolls and skip corners
Amazed at how good this game looks. The drop at 4:02 was jaw-dropping.
When it was released in 1997, it was the best looking racing game available on consoles.
Ok bud
The nostalgia is crazy rn
i remember cars denting was a big thing back in the day... i also remember a nascar game on snes which was very cool back in 94-95
5.55 wins race, gets killed
Lol that would suck
and i though it was the best race game ever at the time xD
i love those blury graphics
Don't we all?
I had so much fun with this game, even though my youngself was kinda disappointed that it felt more like a time trail than an actual race. I don't remember the races being long, :O
the music on the menus seems different to what I remember?
Mandela Effect

I just bought a N64 off ebay and Top Gear Rally. And man, I swear it does seem different than I remember too.
You missed a huge shortcut on coastline and a shorter one on the jungle... My OCD requires you to use all the shortcuts!!!!!!!
I remember hating this game until I committed myself to learning the small yellow steering wheel. It made turns much easier for me. :)
thanks for the 64 capture! best
really good times
Nostalgia
I played the shit out of this game, I loved how u could customize your car/paint job.
1:56 something is wrong but I can't quite figure it out
It's normal that kind of drift, it's explained on CARS the movie of Pixar hehehe

Yes.
At least he tried to write in English.
I remember this game but with better graphics xD damn
also what type of car is the little green one?
Zpectre87 thanks :)
Zpectre87 I am interested to know more about each of these cars. I didn't realise how expensive the small green one is! It's going for 50k!

Wow the 2nd game had major improvements.
Ha, that 2nd one was a major disaster
i just can't play this game!
An insult to previous games in the series.
