Penny Mordaunt (Leader of the House of Commons) did what most women in 50s do - wore flats to go over the cobblestones - changed into heels for the ceremony. She also carried a "big ass sword" throughout - at a right angle - and stood the entire time. So kudos to the woman for her strength and stamina - and doing what the boys do - but in heels!

Yes, I agree…Princess Anne. I read a comment, by one in UK, saying they were tired of Princess Anne dressing like a man. Surely for the Coronation she could have worn a dress. As a smug American who is an avid reader and read everything that was happening, I had to reply. I explained the Princess’ role which dates back to the 15th Century when the monarch was protected by a Gold-Stick-In-Waiting and a Silver-Stick-In-Waiting. The King asked his SISTER to be his Gold-Stick which required her to ride a horse in protection of his carriage leading 6000 soldiers back to Buckingham Palace. The King was honoring Princess Anne with one of the most important jobs in the Coronation as a thank-you for her loyalty to the Royal Family. The Princess was honored to be the King’s Royal bodyguard. I might have added something snarky about a gown on a horse and one or two other things…lol. Thanks. Enjoyed this.

Princess Anne rocks! She was a competitor in the 1976 Olympic Games and is probably the most accomplished horsewoman among the royals, apart from her daughter Zara, who won an Olympic silver medal in 2012. She was interviewed on CBC last week and said how pleased she was to be chosen as the Gold Stick, especially as it solved her dress problem! In 1974 when some idiot tried to kidnap her she responded “not bloody likely!”. I have no doubt that if the need arose she would have been a very effective bodyguard for her brother.

The “homage” to Elizabeth II are precisely the embroidered corgis on the bottom of the dress, which were her mother-in-law’s beloved pups. 11:06 Prince Harry is wearing morning dress, likewise for Rishi Sunak. It is worn in Britain for weddings and for some horse races, such as the Royal Ascot. The silver tie is standard for morning dress, as are the grey striped trousers.
The various colourful robes being worn are for their respective orders of chivalry. They are standard, so one can't really make them more interesting. William, Kate and Anne are wearing robes for the Order of the Garter, Royal Victorian Order and the Order of the Thistle respectively.
Harry is actually only wearing one military medal, his campaign medal for (I think) Afghanistan. The other ones on his medal bar, I believe, are various jubilee medals.

You really should have got a pic of Penny Mourdant from the actual ceremony. Her shoes were sparkly high heels. They were embellished so she didn't wear them walking to the ceremony in the rain.

Yes. Not including Penny's look from the actual ceremony suggests poor research for this specific video. Especially considering the fact that her photos from the inside the Abbey are all over internet now.
As for Bruce Oldfield, he's been doing Camilla's clothing pretty regularly for years. So talking about Diana and him now, as if it's a new thing, is looking for drama where it doesn't exist. Especially considering the fact that Bruce was quoted saying: "I gave Diana her glamour and Camilla her confidence" almost ten years ago. So he evidently was fine with dressing both of the women.

Camilla's necklace was definately not a homage. It is the necklace which has been worn during the coronations by every Queen since 1902 - this jewellery piece's name is literally "the coronation necklace".
When we are looking for the homages in jewellery, we have to look at the crown. (And speaking of, it is NOT Queen Elizabeth's mother's crown as stated in the video, but her grandmother's - Queen Mary's and it was made in 1911. Elizabeth's mother wore "the Crown of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother", which was made for her in 1937.)
Some of the diamonds in "the Crown of Queen Mary", were, according to Camilla's wishes, taken out and replaced with the diamonds from Elizabeth II's private collection - that was the homage.
Another thing, the cypher on the bottom of the dress. It was probably another homage to the late Queen, as she had her cypher embroidered on the back of the train during her coronation. I agree that it gives too much of a logomania vibe on the dress, but it's important to know why it is there and I hoped that Luke would include this information.
Bruce Oldfield has been doing Camilla's clothes pretty regularly for years. So can we stop making some kind of drama out of this? No, she has not "got the nerve to wear Diana's designer". It's literally her standard designer. And he is proud to have been able to dress both of the ladies - almost ten years ago he was quoted saying "I gave Diana her glamour and Camilla her confidence".
Overall, I'm kind of underwhelmed after this video. I was expecting much more comparisons and pieces of historical information from Luke. And I am surprised at seeing mistakes! 😲
This video, in my opinion, is below his usual standard. Royal fashion and it's historical "house codes" (especially when it comes to the jewellery!) don't have to be everybody's thing. And there is nothing wrong with that. But if it's not Your thing, why even talk about it? And why include segments about the jewellery which are obviously false to everybody who has any interest in this subject...?
This video would be great if it would focus on the guests's looks. Talking about historical garments, necklaces and crowns, without doing, let's be honest, any research, is bound to end badly.

Hi Luke, St Edwards crown has no colonial history, it's very old, and gems can also be purchased, even in the 1600's ;) The imperial state crown does have a colonial history. The crown of Camilla would never be the same as QE II as she was a queen regnant not a queen consort like Camillia or the Queen Mother. Camilla indeed wore the crown of a previous queen consort to reduce the cost of the crowning. In this case it was the crown of Queen Mary, the grandmother of QE II, as the crown of the Queen Mother has indeed a contestend diamand in there, and Charles wanted to avoid that controversy.

Traditionally, peers wear coronation robes (red with ermine cape, with rows of ermine depending on rank) and coronets. Charles didn't want to burden people with the requirement to get their old tattered robes fit to wear, so he asked people to wear suits and dresses. (this was later rescinded, and you will find peers in ermine in pictures).
That said, people wore their honors instead.
William is a Knight of the Garter, so he wore the mantle and star of the order , with military uniform underneath. You will see a lot of men wearing their Garter robes, specifically Prince Edward.
Catherine , The Princess of Wales, is a member of the Royal Victorian Order, and so wore that mantle over her white dress. Sophie, The Duchess of Edinburgh, also wore her honors of the Victorian Order as well.

(As told in an interview with “The Guardian”5/7/23 to Steve Rose). Women of the Royal Family fall under so many restrictions and rules when it comes to their fashion choices, making it a little stagnant. Which is why we love HauteLeMode is reviewing it!
The “bolero” Camilla is said to be wearing is actually straps to keep the cape on over her coat dress worn over her dress.😅 The embroidery represents the nations of the UK: Roses for England, thistles for Scotland, daffodils for Wales and shamrocks for Northern Ireland. Catherine had the same done on her gown along with her flower crown (which I loved because it looked like a Tiara!)in silver. QE2 also paid homage on her coronation gown with all the flowers. The embroidery is a tradition, not necessarily a fashion choice. The dogs representing Queen Camilla personal pets may have been too much? Butt… these dresses will probably never be worn up again (yet Catherine may find a way to upcycle😂 hers), they’ll end up on display at the museum becoming historical pieces. Here’s hoping that the ballet pink nail varnish and nude lipstick can be “more pigmented” soon (a repeat of Catherine’s red nails at Easter). Everyone honored QE2 by respecting and following her preferences.

I thought everyone with an interest in fashion history would know Prince Harry was in a morning suit. A black coat with tails, grey pants, and and a double-breasted waistcoat are de rigeur for formal daytime events, especially royal ones. At my own daytime wedding when i had just graduated from art college, thats what my husband and his attendants wore. I was just a 22 year old American, but I knew enough to desire this form of dress.

Queen Mary's crown called the queen mother's. Not knowing the name of the surcoat. Not knowing the orders. Referring to the crown as king Edwards crown. It just shows that he did no research. Every article about any of this was pretty accurate. Just goes to show he's full of it and makes you wonder what else he's just made up.

Actually the crown Camilla wore is Queen Mary’s crown, worn by her late Majesty’s grandmother, for her coronation as consort to King George V. The shape suited Camilla better and by not using the late Queen Mother’s crown the Palace could avoid dealing with the controversy over the Koh-I-Nor diamond.

Half of these comments didn't understand the symbolism of the ceremony and how that is reflected in the dress, aka Penny Mordaunt's motif. This comes from the Court Dress of the Privy Council of which she is the Head of. The leaf, emblazoned on the Court Dress, was feminised: in her words. Also the type of sleeve had to allow freedom of movement in order to carry the Sword of State but also covering her arms.
The dogs on Camilla dress are dogs which Camilla and Charles got from a rescue home but are King Charles Spaniels. This type of dog was named after the last Charles, Charles II, Symbolism!

    _says he's english_
Doesn't know that Camilla's crown is Queen Mary's crown (made 1911) or that the necklace is the coronation necklace that every queen after Victoria (not including) has worn on her coronation. Camilla wasn't paying tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, she was following tradition.
Edit: You have a second jewellery sin!!! Princess Catherine actually DID pay tribute to the late Queen by wearing one of her necklaces. It's the George VI Festoon necklace, for those who may be curious. Elizabeth's father (King George VI) had the necklace made for her and she wore it consistently throughout her life.

Fashion doesn't happen in Coronations. It's all tradition and regimented and coded. It's very essential that the designers are all UK etc. The embroidery is all necessary symbols of family, office and country. William's trousers are set by military rules as an fyi. Princess Anne is always impeccable. The PM was wearing the correct full formal gear. There is protocol for that. The ladies should remain 'conservative' and simple. The coronation is completely regimented and choice is extremely restricted. You should know that.

but, they have actual names, and they sound epic af, the whole week I was hearing those names dropping all the time, and now I need to name my cloths too,
the fur cape - the cape is not black it’s crimson red velvet - from King George VI's, called “The Robe of State”,
the purple robe - George VI, “The Robe of Estate” - it’s taken off for the coronation part,
under there is a white shirt - George VI, it’s called “The Colobium Sindonis”
over the shirt there is a gold robe - from George VI, called “The Supertunica”
over that another gold cape - George 4th “The Imperial Mantle”
over that - a gold belt - George VI, “The Coronation Sword Belt”
1 glove - George VI, “The Coronation Glove” - like a gauntlet - it’s ceremonial accessory,
and on top all the royal regalia, the crown etc.

And speaking of Charles' style, it's also worth noting that he was the pioneer in royal/famous people's circles, when it comes to rewearing and reparing clothes. He's been doing this genuinely for decades, long before it was the thing that would be applauded by the public. And long before celebrities started preaching about 'sustainability' (while taking private jets everywhere).
He also believes in using natural fabrics instead of synthetic fibres, which is in my opinion, the actual, true sustainability, instead of celebrity greenwashing - woolen shawl or a sweater is not only more comfortable to wear, but well taken care of, will last You years, unlike the acrylic one.
He lauched Campain For Wool to support the wool industry.
I think he doesn't get nearly enough credit for his efforts (and for his style in general) in the fashion world.
