  • A sinkhole rapidly grew from a small hole into a small lake as it consumed two homes in a central Florida neighborhood, and forced the evacuation of at least 10 other homes.

    Why would anyone build a home over a known sinkhole area?

    • @faithrada
      @faithrada ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I suspect that in the past people were simply unaware... now it's a lack of good buildable land. Now a days it is easier for insurance companies to identify the more hazardous areas... but of course.. no guarantees.
      Imho there is too much wrong with Florida to take a chance. They just confirmed a few cases of local malaria on the Florida west coast. 😳 🦟 No thanks. 😮

    It is largely because developers build homes near man made mosquito ponds that they call "lakes" so they can call the property waterfront. The underground water eats away the limestone.

      There was an entire PBS Nova episode on this a few years ago, appropriately called “Sinkholes: Buried Alive“. They’re all over Florida and they are terrifying and there’s no particular political will to locate them and buy people out. It’s purely buyer beware. This tragedy was the incident that they started off with. The fellow was staying at his brother’s house and the,family put him up in their daughter’s bedroom and the daughter was in with the parents. So it was just the luck of the draw that he was in that bedroom and that their young daughter wasn’t swallowed up.

    dont want sink holes? tell big companies to stop drilling for oil. they replace the oil underground with water. the water slowly evaporates and creates a empty gap. the gap rises and creates sinkholes and sometimes earthquakes. Also we are wondering why the core stopped spinning and cooling down while we are taking oil.

    • @faithrada
      @faithrada ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Last I heard there is no oil drilling in the Ocala area. The limestone simply erodes away.
