This is one of the best tutorials for beginners(like myself). You show your key strokes, mouse presses, which menus you're selecting. You talk clear and slow enough so we can follow along, you don't edit your video to cut out important steps of the process. Literally the opposite of what most bad tutorials do; which is talk super fast, cut out important steps, don't say what keys are pressed or what menus are selected. Top notch tutorial.
This was a wonderful tutorial! I was worried about getting to the animation part because I was afraid it was going to be super complicated, so I really appreciate this tutorial making everything easy to understand
Oh that's a nice little detail I wish I'd added. Thanks for pointing it out. I thought you were gonna tell me glocks have no hammers like everyone else lol.
although this was sped up, it helped me SO much in understanding the workflow of modeling and rigging a gun, like which parts I actually need to model and dont need to such as the barrel.
You know, this video has over 100 comments, and I think 80% of them are teaching me about the glock hammer lol. Hope you found some value in the video anyway :)
Top Man! My opinion carries no weight but if you're like me and need a quick and easy-to-follow summary about rigging then this video (^) is the one. Great job Tvtig!
THANK YOU TVTIG. I've been trying to get into modeling, rigging, and animating by making my own Ravenfield mod, but all of the tutorials for it may as well have been made in 1983 for how out of date they are. After several days of scrubbing through long-winded, confusing tutorials with bad mics and hard-to-follow instructions, it's so nice to come across a tutorial that's as well put together as this one is. Rigging makes sense now! I'm looking forward to see what you come out with next.
hey man, i got to this video recently, but if you see this i gotta tell you this: glock does not have visible hammer (the thing in the back of the slide) it has integrated hammer, just lil tip, otherwise its great model
11:23 "pay attention to the mechanism of the thing you are modeling" he says whilst animating an external hammer on a _glock_ after childing it to the slide. Glocks dont have external hammers. Cool tutorial otherwise
I know this video came out a while ago, but I am having trouble with this. Every time I select a new bone to animate, it creates a new action in the action editor. When I finished animating the animation worked great, but when I export It to unity, it has a bunch of different animation clips instead of all being one. Can anyone help me with this? Edit: Update, after rewatching the video I realized what I did wrong, When I rigged the model I added new armetures instead of copy/pasting the same bone in edit.
Ah you’re welcome, I struggled with it for a while too. Then I realised, real life objects are often made up of many different parts, let’s just model them individually!
Ok so i did basically the same thing with a pre prepared model that i rigged (not made by me), but when i go to the dope sheet and then the action editor everytime i insert the keyframe for all the bones and select one of them, it changes the action from "shoot" to , say "Bone_BaseAction.001". PLEASE HELP.
When I was animating the rigged gun it created an action for each one of the bones instead of one action for every bones. What could be the issue? I am adding a single bone, duplicating it and parenting each part of the gun to the bones accordingly then I parent the other bones to the base bone just like you did but you got a single action for animating every bones edit: alright nvm I was duplicating in object mode instead of edit mode
Here I don't understand where is the collection of the gun gone and if I need to add an armature and just copy bones or should I have separate armatures? Since I'm rigging a revolver how do I make a constraint to rotate the cylinder in place?
Just for clarification but if you do not plan on doing recoil on the gun animation but rather with the character itself is the bone on the handle of the gun necessary???
Absolutly amazing video taught me alot. however i cant over look the fact you put a hammer on a glock when glocks dont have exposed hammers lmao. (Sorry for taking the piss)
I didn’t read the comments to see if anyone noticed this, but it seems like the mechanism that spits out the shells is on the left side instead of the right side which I don’t know how many guns do that
very small nitpick that im sure someone else has already mentioned but a glock like the one you are modeling does not have a hammer. (maybe you just added it for tutorial purposes)? great tutorial though
Awesome video! Quck question, I am trying to do the procedure you taught at 9:25, but when I try to edit the two bones my "keep offset" option is greyed out. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Im having trouble with pairing the bones together to make parent bones. when i click the child bone first then the parent bone and press ctrl+p the keep offset isnt selectable. reply if you can help me with this on discord
at 3:53 bro started loosing his mind for a second P.s. there is no hammer on a Glock pistol. Taking into account that "you've watched 10 videos" i can assume that you've made it on purpose.
To be honest, I've been thinking about this and can't think of a good answer other than, I just prefer the structure of working with bones rather than individual objects. Great question though, if you ever find a better reason, please share it with me!
i tried to animate without bones and it blew. every time i tried to rotate the gun it would animate each part rotating by itself, so the slide and the magazine and everything were clipping through each other and shit
@@bruhman5829 Interesting, so you think parenting needs to be handled differently when animating without bones? Or do you have to consider World Rotation and Local Rotation?
Bro I don't know if your still here but my bones aren't linking up to my mesh, when I try to parent them in pose mode the armature still moves on its own without the mesh.
