my trusty old cr80 bumpstarts without me having to jump to keep it rolling, i just roll, shift to first gear, release the clutch, give it a little gas so it dosent die, and then i pull the clutch in again, rev it and then release the clutch again. i think it works with other bikes
You can just run with it then tap first gear or second gear and when it kicks over put it in neutral and warm it up.
Mines I can hear it start but won’t turn on

2nd gear is easier on the engine, as it doesn't have as much torque
If you've got a bike with more compression than a 125 (250F>) you'll most likely need to go into second for a roll start. It will have too much compression, the back wheel will lock, and it wont start.
this is great for any new rider, and will help people who don't know how to do it. couldn't have explained it better, however with a four stroke don't shift down, shift up into second gear, this is because the four stroke engine has higher compression then a 2 stroke, I'm not sure why mechanically it makes a difference, i believe its the torque and gear ratio spin the crank faster and easier in a higher gear is what id assume I don't question what works haha i just use what works for me.

really helpful video, i tried doing it on my ktm 200 in second gear (im a beginner lol) and yeah i couldnt get it to start but i might not have been fast enough or something :/

Try second gear, even though second is a taller gear, the engine has a lot of compression, and in first you could if you are not careful damage your transmission.
dude these bike will do 3rd gear starts with a reklus torge Drive clutch system plus if your racing and you know doing 3rd gear is gona get the clutch a little bit hotter but a reklus is more expensive and is designed to be pushed a lot harder I would never do 3rd gear starts on a stock bike tho ile change it out with a upgraded clutch that is lighter than stock and more heavy duty for abuse and more power to the ground aswel
I think sitting down with force is to help get traction on the back wheel so it doesn't just lockup & skid.
Ya when you jump down on your bike the swing arm will move and want to progress the motion your going by tightening the chain I believe.

The easiest way is to put it in first have the clutch pulled in rin as fast as you can with the bike and release the clutch some times it's on it's firing stroke and it dosent work but just do it a few times and I'm Shure it will work
push start it is so easy anyways :)
Put it in neutral , roll down a hill , kick it in first covering the clutch so it doesn't stall , give it a Lil gas

I have a 125cc pitbike, if I bump start it cold do I use the choke? I was told to use it but I'm not an expert and don't know if I actually should..

triangle kick stand most big bike use them because there is usually no room for a kickstand
Zabel Maple I wouldn't say that there is no room, I'd say it's a saftey hazard to ride a mx bike(made to race) on a track with a kickstand bouncing around. if it happens to come down you could die. id say saftey/weight before no room... just my opinion though.
You've just showed everyone how to nick a dirt bike lol. Very helpful because my kick start lever broke out on the track and I had to do this to get back in to replace it!

@kawasakirider86 Go ahead and attempt it without jumping on any high compression four stroke above 250cc. Youll be draggin the rear tire all day.
after over 40 years riding off road bikes........ dont use first gear!!! for bumpstarting ever.. too much compression 3-4 maybe even 5th if on steep hill mush easier to turn an engine over unless your engine has No compression!
in my opinon cheaper to maintain than a 4 stroke but each to there own 2 strokes require a bit more skill to ride 4 strokes you can be on the trottle all day 2 strokes you gotta get the high rpms
He should of named this compression start cause that's what it really is not push start that the real name but compression start is also but that's why kick start bikes suck and even kick start old quads suck I like the new electric start no fucking trying to break you leg and get pissed off at kicking a starting a bike over just to ride with electric all you need to do is hit a button and your off riding now that's smart oil man out
my dad had a four stroke with compreshion and he pulled in the this leaver (i think it was the clutch) to let some compreshion out cuz its hard to start if it has a lot. After that he just jumped on the bike (with a kickstand /milkcreat) then he jumped in the air ON THE BIKE the bike and kept kicking it like that till it started. Now he has a cr480 2 stroke and he need a buket but he gets on the bike jumps in the air and stops hard in the kicker. hope i helped
dnt put it in first that will mess ur bike up.
put it in 3rd, hold the clutch in push it fast as u can just on it and just bounce on the seat and let go of the clutch at the same time.

luckely i am able to start my yz426f by kickstart, but before i tryed also pushing the bike, and my wheel just kept blocking on the pavement, it never worked for me
@MotocrossHideout Yer i have a CRF 250 that is near impossable to kick start, and hasnt been started for a few months, would this work for me? it has manual decompression
Ahaa,so im gonna run with neutral,then jump on put the clutch in then the 1st gear and then let go of the clutch with a little bit of gas.. easy :D
On my 85 all i do is run. Dont use the clutch, Click it into first and give it gas at the same time and it starts right up
puts the pressure on the chain and makes the wheel move with the chain which then turns the engine over and starts it
Ya and that that is true my 2008 Yamaha Raptor 250 gives me hell sometimes and that's only electric start so you are right thanks oil man out

@ladiesman2165 this is when your bike is flooded or such cases where you cant kick/electric start your bike
To complicated ! I just get a runin start jump on the bike and shif to firts . I dont have to jump up and down to get my bike started

****Guys I need help**** when I push start it the bike will cut on but I try to rev it up and it won’t rev and it won’t go when I twist the throttle it’ll just roll in gear with the engine on someone help me
@svenskan007 It's pretty much the same for any bike. Some bikes are a little more finicky than others though. Or are you talking about four-strokes with manual-decmpression?
if i tried to shift the bike from neutral to first while its off, the wheel jusy locks up...

I have a 125 kxf and it has a battery to start it but the battery is gone and I don't know what v it is and it's a on road bike but bean turned in to a crosser with 250 wheels on it
you can also put it in 3rd gear, hold the clutch, hop on and let go of the clutch duh!!!!

litterally kickstarted it first try and let it idle. turned it off. cam ba k out to start it and it wouldnt start for the life of me or push start. when I put it in first from neutral it bogs out

my bike has too much comprenssion and i think that it doesnt go on...
as your coming down let go of the clutch and little bit of gas and should start up
did anyone notice that form 0:48 to 1:38 he sits on the bike without the stand down
on my pitbike 150cc i put in in second cuz its harder in first and just push it and jump on in
you dont even need to jump up an come down just hit the throttle and it will start

Should research more first. Especially if you're buying a pre-mix only bike.

2nd gear is better for roll starting as it requires less compression

If ur bike is leaking gas. You need new floats in ur carb.

Not first gear. the highest gear will make it easer to start

Sure you can do it with a stroker. Just have to get going fast enough
