  • Most new device launches go the same way: usually the press gets review units before they’re widely available, and we get to use them for a few days or a week if we’re lucky as we work on our review.
    Then press day arrives. The embargo on media coverage lifts, and everyone posts their reviews and videos at the same time. It’s a huge frenzy, commenters go nuts, and it’s a giant explosion of frantic opinion-sharing activity.
    For about … a day. And then it all goes away. Sure, there’s followup coverage as people find bugs and hidden features, but after that initial blast, not many people revisit the device to see how it feels a few months later, because everyone’s already focused on the next big deal coming down the pipe.
    So let’s do something about that. Let’s see how we feel about devices when they’re not shiny and new anymore. This is After The Buzz.
    --
    In the ever changing world of flagship smartphones, the latest trend for 2015 was sadly to iPhonize them… which means that a Thin and light premium design is far more important than a feature-packed phone. Replaceable batteries took a back seat to a sealed chassis, and if you crave more storage, be ready to pay more for a unit that offers it.
    LG is one of the few knights in shinning armor that actually defied the trend in a completely opposite direction. The lessons learned from the sealed and non-expandable Optimus G and G2 were somewhat solved with the G3, but we all know that that particular phone tried too hard to innovate and accomplished too little, up to the point where it left most of us already wanting to see the company’s successor.
    I was one of those, and after watching Michael’s review of the LG G4 back in May, let’s just say I jumped on it as quick as I could. So far I’ve been rocking this AT&T unit since September, and some things have been great, others, not so much. Watch After The Buzz, Episode 49 on the LG G4 to learn more.

    after getting used to the double tap wake up and sleep on my G4, i dont think i would ever bother with a fingerprint scanner.
    i dont even use the button on the back at all.
    its not like i have state secrets that i need to hide

    I have been so frustrated with the G4 until now. Marshmallow has helped so much. The software annoyances have been fixed like that damn notification panel, the battery is better.. Getting roughly 30-45m more than lollipop. Very happy with the phone.. And Maaan that camera 😍

    • @henleyramoodit8106
      @henleyramoodit8106 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How did the update fix the notification panel??

    • @VaiRostampour
      @VaiRostampour 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Henley Ramoodit the behaviour of the notification panel... Before marshmallow you could expand a notification whilst having the quick toggles open. You had to hide the toggles to then expand. It's fine now.

    • @15lumen

      +Vai Rostampour They removed Knock Code, or they restored it with update?

    • @VaiRostampour
      @VaiRostampour 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      15lumen they still have it, I believe they require you to set up a more complicated code. I haven't tested it.. I don't use knock code.

    don't really need the 2nd screen of the V10 and its size. living without fingerprint scanner was fine before, it s not because most phones have it, that it is mandatory so I am ok with what the g4 has to offer.

    • @calmtadpoleofthesea786

    • @rnagic8652

      you are not alone. I still don't understand why finger print scanners are so important.

    • @matthewsjardine
      @matthewsjardine 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree as well. The G4 is like LG's take on the Galaxy S6, while the V10 is like their version of the Note 5. You know the V10 has more features, but the average consumer shouldn't necessarily care about them. The added manual controls for video is awesome, but not a tool for the average consumer, the second display is a little bit of a gimmick and the added size is enough to put most people off. The fingerprint scanner, better sound output and more premium design is what I think most consumers will be looking at.

    • @GanNing221
      @GanNing221 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +rnagic
      The reason why tech companies are starting to implement the fingerprint scanner is due solely on capitalism (credit card usage) and instant gratification, where we don't want to waste seconds of typing a pin code or in G4's case the knock code. "Not in five seconds, ten seconds or twenty seconds, WE WANT IT NOW!"

    • @Fujiwara.Takumi1
      @Fujiwara.Takumi1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ganning220 dude. the Knock code is still faster than most fingerprint scanners to date. and it's much more secure. especially when nobody knows about knock code

    The LG G4 is amazing, I got it mainly for its price tag, here in Australia a 32GB LG G4 (leather back) cost me $495AUD where as my brother payed $1280AUD for an iPhone 6s with 64gb (Not the plus version either).
    On top of that, I get better battery life, I have a better camera, I can remove the back and replace the battery in the future, I can add an SD card storage up-to 200GB, I have a crispier 1440p display.
    While the iPhone is an amazing phone too and I respect both companies, he only gets Force Touch and a slight boost in performance while gaming due to the A9 chip and lower resolution screen. I don't game on my phone and never will, nor did I find Force touch anything but a gimmick really, I also love the unibody of the iPhone but hate the lack of customisability of storage/removable back-cover.
    Lastly, the OS, which is completely personal, I love how Android can be both Simple & complicated, where as with IOS you are stuck with just "Simple", can't mod anything, can't move anything, I'm not even a heavy tweaker, still running stock OS but I just love to customize my screen to my liking and make it completely minimal with a single widget for my calendar.
    TLDR: LG G4 > iPhone 6s :D

    • @demalih
      @demalih 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Mike S agreed, I feel like the iPhone pricing can be very cruel on some regions, LG on the other hand usually have better value on those regions/countries

    • @ThomasVanhelden
      @ThomasVanhelden 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mike S Good for you! Everyone has their opinion and I respect yours. I can't say that I share yours but I find it hard to believe that someone thinks Force Touch is a gimmick.
      It let's you skip unnecessary steps so you are more productive. It also enhances the in-app experience by making it more fluid, smooth and convenient.
      So why do you think it's a gimmick?

    • @Randomguy86204
      @Randomguy86204 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thomas Vanhelden I just found it pointless and quite awkward to press, a lot of the times it saw it as a drag rather then a force and I feel like I'm damaging the phone each time I press hard on it, I don't know just never liked the ideology of it from the beginning. Also, when I was using it (I used my dads 6s for quite some time), I found that at first it was like "oh cool!" then I completely forgot about it and didn't really have the need for it. Only native apps supported it and every other app didn't utilize it (I'm sure devs will eventually though).
      Again, I didn't say it *IS* a gimmick, I'm sure other people like it but to me personally it made absolute no difference to me whether I had it on an iPhone or not, to *ME* its a gimmick but as I said to others like your self its a useful feature.

    • @ThomasVanhelden
      @ThomasVanhelden 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike S I can live with that but I do think you should give it another try. You say only native apps supported it but that's not the case anymore. All of the most popular apps now support it both on the home screen and inside the app (peek & pop). Even some Google apps support it now.
      It's a totally different experience since you've last used it.
      I do understand what you're saying though. How you feel about 3D touch is how I feel about the customization of Android. I didn't care if it was there or not, I completely forgot about it and didn't really have a need for it.

    • @demalih
      @demalih 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike S I'm quite excited about the prospect of 3d touch on games, would be nice to someday be able to play a more realistic racing games while using the 3d touch screen as the pedal with pressure sensitivity, like triggers on a console controller.
      But as of now, we're not there yet.

      @gabealtier7754 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +15lumen I have the G3, so I may be able to help. If you scroll through your notification toggles, there should be an "edit" button all the way on the right. Clicking on it gives you the option of enabling and disabling the toggles, as well as the brightness and volume bars.

    i'm looking for a good flagship phone with replaceable batteries and lg g4 seems pretty good but there's this notorious problem about bootloops. is there a fix for it or it just happened that your version never suffered from it?

    LG should had continued with the design language of G4. Fine leather back option, gentle curved screen, dual SIM cards with external memory all at the same time. G5 is just not there. It looks like any other phones and the chin attachment breaks the smooth continuity.
    Bring the G4 lineage with the G6!

  • @mistamjl
    @mistamjl 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've been using a G4 for about 2 months (mostly as my daily driver). absolutely love it! the camera is the best I've ever used, the feel in hand with its curves is great for people with smaller hands (such as me) it also keeps the camera from touch the surface when layed on its back. Black leather makes this device look as premium as anything else out there.
    Sure the software could be better, as with any device really.
    Lack of fingerprint scanner was a bit of a let down, but not enough for me to switch for a V10.
    While the V10 has the second screen, fingerprint scanner and an extra gig of ram, it still has the same camera, same SD808. Not really enough to invoke as a "must have".
    LG G4 is a solid device, and with Marshmallow on the way, I see it being a keeper, at least for a while longer.

    I think this video was done too early. The G4 is still the flagship smartphone of LG. It was the one to recieve the marshmallow update first. I dont think LG made the V10 as a patched G4 replacement, but rather as a note 5/s5edge+ competitor, since it is much larger than the G4, has a secondary display and a completley different design. I got my G4 right after it launched and I still love it very much!

    2 Questions:
    1) Is it possible to put the menu button in the Android buttons, bottom row? I heard you can long press on the "Task switcher" button to get the menu button, but this doesn't work with all Android apps, and I'd like to have a dedicated button anyways
    2) This phone come with a quick charge cable (where it goes from something like 10% battery life to 70% in an hour, as opposed to some straight up gain like 15% per hour)? At the very least, it can quick charge (even if we need to buy the cable separately?

    I have to say I just watched this video tonight after getting an LG G4 today. I have been using a Nexus 5 since December of 2013 and I wanted a new phone but could not fathom the prices for the G5 of S7 phones. I found the G4 online for 290 dollars with shipping. If its not a perfect phone I am very happy with it for the price and if I get tired of it in a year, i'm sure I can pick up this years flagships, next year, at a reduced price as well. Sometimes it pays to wait. :)

    450€ for the G4 compared to 699€+ for the Nexus 6P, Galaxy S6, iPhone, V10 etc. combined with a expandable storage, great camera and leather back makes it a pretty good choice in my opinion.
    Let's hope LG will keep going this path with its G5.

      Been using the G4 since launch, tried some other phones in between but have always come back to the G4 and still using it. Great phone. I kind of liked the G5 but still waiting for V20. You should wait till it actually launches, some shops do sell them by importing although might not have warranty.

    Have been rocking the G4 since spring this year and I must say I love this phone. No lag whatsoever, the phone works like a dream. I must admit that I'm not a huge fan of the default launcher by LG nor the keyboard, but thanks to Android I'm using Google Now Launcher and Google keyboard. The only thing I'm missing is Android 6.0 upgrade, otherwise nothing to complain.

    The top of my LG G4 cracked when I dropped it out of my trouser pocket on to tiled floor there is now a crack on the top plastic bezel. Also I live in the UK and I havn't got the Marshmallow update yet. I should've waited for the LG V10... :(

    The thing is, the V10 does NOT offer anything substantial over the G4. The only reason I'd recommend the V10 over the G4 is if someone told me they simple have to have the fingerprint scanner and a phone that doubles as a dinner tray. Except no one asks for either of those.

    There is a GFE regarding the LG Optimus G within this video-- the versipn shown in the video is the ATT version that while it lacks an interchangable battery, is expandable in terms of storage. the Sprint version and most international versions, however, are non expandable for the most part.

    If those were your negative points, then I'm more over the fence about the G4 than I was before. I don't care for a F-scanner and the battery life thing I can fight with (which I'm currently doing on my s4). Thank you for the work in putting out this video.
