- Welcome back to Boxing After Dark. In today's video we go back to 2006. Evander Holyfield is nearing the end of long, lengthy career. Before he's able to challenge for his 5th world title attempt, he'll have to go through Jeremy "BEAST" Bates a man most known for his power and courage

Holyfield: The definition of a warrior. Fought everyone and had such heart. His fights with Tyson were awesome !
Evander Holyfield was an absolutely amazing fighter (don’t let the losses at the end of his career fool you). A worthy Heavyweight Champion.😊
And he technically wasn’t a true heavyweight but fought them all heart ♥️ of a lion
The BEST HEAVY WEIGHT CHAMPION OF THAT TIME, HE DIDN'T RUN FROM NOBODY!!
HE WAS THE BEST !!
Bullshit Holyfield things worked for him because the guy sucked and he was 53
He only beat Tyson because of steroids and Mike wasn’t the same after prison he was using and relying on one punch kos
@scottmalcolm the Mike Tyson excuse train, keeps in running
Win or loose, Holyfield put it all on the line and his comebacks were legendary. In my opinion one of the greatest.
Greatest cheat maybe.
@@Me-qp8vzbecause he smashed your favorite boxer's face 😂😂
Holyfield dominated for 2 decades as a true champion. It just sucks that boxers get old and slow down but he gave us all great shows with style and speed.
This is all sports, even rappers and singers
I wish Evander the best in the future and thank him for all the great fights.
In his prime? Evander was really something special. He had great hand speed for a cruiser/heavyweight and amazing ring awareness/footwork. He also had a great chin and as much heart as anybody I've ever seen fight. His power wasn't that of a Tyson or Foreman but he still had enough power (even at heavyweight) to get the job done. One of the all time greats and probably the GREATEST cruiserweight ever.
Holyfield was the definition of a warrior! He could box with the best very skilled boxer When his fights turned into a fight he was at his best! He refused to back down from anyone and was entertaining for fans to watch. He is my fav boxer of all time.
Can't choose between Evander and Ray Leonard as all-time favorite. These guys applied themselves like few others ever have or ever will.
😏 PRECISION!
The 'Marvelous ' one.....
I'd say SRL because of his ring intelligence and speed but Holyfield at his best was legendary no doubt.
Bums me out when guys like Holyfield, Chavez, Tyson, etc lose to guys they easily would have beaten in their better days. Some do it for necessity others just love to fight. My respect to all of them!
From Jack Dempsey and Ray Robinson to Manny Pacquiao and Roy Jones, they all seem to fall into the same trap, some for money and others for the sake of their own competitive nature. I agree with you though it's always very hard to watch. I remember seeing Ali get beaten by Leon Spinks (not taking anything away from Leon either, he came to win and he did his job well that night) as a boy and it completely devastated me, being from Louisville I had grown up idilozing the already lamented champion that he was. As I got a little bit older I realized it just happens, and usually to the very best. Marciano was one exception. However I will never be convinced otherwise that because he took his perfect record so very seriously, and was wise to the fact that he may not be able to beat Floyd Patterson who was up and coming at that time, and was all but certain he wouldn't beat Sonny Liston, who was also knocking at the door when he decided to retire. He had the mindset to leave when he did, and the wherewithal to stay gone and save his health, but he is a rare example. It does happen but very seldom. As time goes on though great champions somehow just seem to their just due regardless of such losses, i.e. Joe Louis, Ali, Leonard, Robinson etc... it just takes time for reality to kick in for the first generation following the downfall of such champions. Ot's always way to late imo, with Ali being the exception, but then again he was/is The Greatest 🥊!! God bless you my friend and be well. 🙏
I thought Holyfield beat Valuev pretty easily and should be in the book as the oldest HW champ in history. Toney tested positive for steroids though and he was a tough matchup for everyone. But ya I agree with you.
Any true boxing fan fills you there
To see greatness decline is heartbreaking
Yes sir
You don’t retire you get retired in fighting.
Tell em I'll take half...like it's a clever retort 😂 genius over here
The best combination puncher that i ever saw and i've been into boxing since 19 60, a true legend!!!
Give Evander his due. He had the heart of a Lion. Make no mistake.
History forgets Holyfield began his career at light heavy weight he is a natural LHW…he fought dudes 20 to 30 pds over his weight numerous times…definitely one of the pound for pound greats of all times…
even though he did steroids, still one of the greatest
I've always loved, at 8:15, when he's introduced in the 1st Tyson fight, as "hailing from Atlanta Georgia, the former undisputed heavyweight champion" and he just smiles with gratitude and peace, and says, "Thank you Jesus". Philippians 4:13.
The best i ever seen in his day
Courage, speed, timing, power. skill.
Just shows the difference between an elite fighter well past his prime vs a young tough journeyman. He toyed with him.
Evander is one of my favorites in Top Boxing Division .
He's polite , a gentleman and a Great warrior on Canvas and , also in Life .
In his Prime , He was One of Best Ever on Canvas .
Geting older , he's still One of Best Ever by his Legacy.
And he tried to beat Valuev. But he lost by points . Anyway , he showed that, even geting older , Evander never gives up.
THAT'S WHY , HE'S A TRULY CHAMP WHEN HE WINS AND WHEN HE LOOSES WITHOUT LOOSING HIS SPIRIT AS A CHAMP WARRIOR .
evander had the best left hook to the body left hook to the head combo in boxing history🔥
That acolade goes to ricky Hatton
Tyson? Lmao
@@richardgordon0407 Tyson never really threw that combination, tyson's signature combo was right hook to the body right uppercut
@@thegoat6116 for some reason I thought that Mike fought from an orthodox stance, strange. Also liking your own comments is kinda corny
@@richardgordon0407 yeah Mike was a bit of a switch hitter, he was fighting squared up and that allowed him to switch angles at any moment, btw I like my own comments cuz it's a habit
Evander Holyfield was and forever will be my fav boxer he would fight all the best out there a true champion.
Evander is a classy guy. Always appreciated what he did in the ring to show that nice guys don't finish last.
Holyfield was rail roaded in the Valuev fight, he won that fight comfortably.
I know man. Valuev had no business winning that fight against Holyfield on the cards. It was an atrocity by the judges.
They robbed him because they knew if he won he would be five time Heavyweight Champion and it would never have been outdone. Alot of folks didn't like Holyfield because he was a natural cruiser weight that made the Heavyweight division look bad.
@@coymatlock8711 He unfortunately had to take the fight in Zurich, & most fealt that could be a problem, as it so often is, if it went to the score cards & they were right. This is why U.S. champions generally refuse to go to others countries to fight them, it's not the same type of corruption that we often get here it's political. It happens in the Olympics to the point that it is sickening. As for the haters they got very upset when he beat Mike Tyson (which he was always going to do 😅) and they still can't get over or accept it. 😅
One of the very best to ever lace up!! 🥊🥊
What a great, inspiring video. Boxing needs more videos like this. TH-cam needs more videos like this.
Someone tell the Fury chap that this is how beating a non-boxer looks like!
Cannot really compare this Bates to Francis Ngannou pal. Let’s be real.
AJ did
Awesome short little video. Was so short yet seemed like a full fledged documentary
In his prime Evander inflicted pain and damage on his opponents even if he lost. He would alway be in my top 5 greatest fighter that ever lived . He left it all in the ring and always gave 200% with thundering fast, sledge hammer like combination of punches. God bless you Evander.
I gave you a like mate. I never knew of this fight. Nice video.
All I can say. And I had the Honor and the privilege to watch the real deal. Evander holy field in the ring. I am 56 years old and he was one of the best boxers that I ever got to see. In my life so far. And it was the beautiful fundamentals jab right hand left hook jab, right hand left hook. He threw the best combinations I've ever seen. You would think these young fighters could learn from this. But they just can't do That's why I he'll go down his one of the greatest of all time
Old man still putting in work!!!!!! REAL DEAL!!!!
Evander biggest headbutter in boxing history
Holyfield is my former Best Heavyweight Fighter and Lenox were Warriors, they fought with combinations and that made the fans happy, it's a pity that time is running out so quickly💪💪💪💪
holyfield's purple warrior trunks were the best looking boxing trunks i've ever seen✨
Bates showed a lot of heart and class.
It don’t matter how many back yard fights or how tuff you think you are , that training is going to win every time.
Never a built heavyweight but his class n dedication to his trade makes him a great of all time champion
Evander Holyfield is a true legend of boxing. One of the true greats.
Great sportsmanship from both men. Jeremy Bates is a true sportsman. Evander Holyfield was a stylish boxer with a big heart.
What a great fighter! He has to be the most in shape fighter I have ever seen. He should compete in body building competitions now that he is retired...
The bravest an mentally toughest hw at his prime an wasn't even a true hw, legend.
RESPECT! ✊🏾
Bates managed to stop a lot of Holyfields punches with his face.
Bates looks like a sparring partner for Holyfield.
Evander, forever my hero. Respect
Evander he's the best love watching him.
What an honor.
For Holyfield to share the ring with Bates. ;)
And spare him more than a two-round destruction. Gentleman.
You thought Evander is a fighter to mess with,he will bombard you with deadly blows
Its sad when fighters cant figure out the time to call it quits until its too late. Legend
The old man looked great! He still possesses some power behind those punches.
Even past him prime, threw beautiful combinations ,so light on his feet for a heavyweight, a definite natural fighter....
I bet He wished he took the whole amount instead of half!
How much did I offer you reporter : Not enough
My Favorite fighter. Has a gigantic heart.
One of the best
I am gonna wake up with a sore head tomorrow just from watching how many shots the Real Deal landed on Bates.
you showed him ,bates!
THE REAL DEAL
He said tell them I'll talk half. Yeah right I believe that story
This was my Fighter from early 80's til retirement.
We beat Tyson Twice.
If you had a clone of Ali,s boxing brain, shavers/foremans punching power, fraziers incredible stamina and endurance topped with M, tyson ferocious style and holyfields incredible heart and bravery then you would have a virtually unbeatable hw boxer.
He is the real deal, always will be.
Lets never forget that George Foreman at age 45 knocked out the heavyweight champ Michael Moore and became the new and oldest heavyweight champ once again.
George is a very clever man. It's great that he had the opportunity to shine again after losing the title in 1974
There's a massive difference between a skilled boxer and a 'tough guy'.
This video is slightly faster than real time, making the fight seem more intense than what it actually is.
Show the skills of world class fighters. They’re in a totally different league even at an advanced age.
Evander is GREAT!
An over the hill, way past his prime Holyfield, still showed how skilled he was against Bates. Bates was tough, and could throw punches hard. Holyfield looked great here.
The real deal is one of boxing greats. Age caught up with him and he lost a lot as he was passed his prime. Prime evader was one of the best
@Boxing After Dark - Chris Byrd, not Boyd.
Everyone gets too old eventually. Evander was one of the greats.
Do a video on mma fighters who found success in boxing.
Dempsey vs Cowboy Luttrell... Ref saw no reason to step in. Rumor has it Jack is still punching Cowboy this very day.
An an example of how being big and strong doesn't always make you a good fighter.
In his prime he was the man. He was very respectful He was definitely a true warrior
growing up watching this man have blockbuster after blockbuster was amazing.
Unbelievable that kind of combat . Ridiculous
You notice what he said. He was not able to do certain things in 5 years. the fight was easy. an he did not use his head this time around to win.
Experience regardless the power!
A lot of the fighters of that era fought way past there prime...and then went broke..
I dont think age is the main reason for a fighters decline. I think it is because the damage they recieve battling thier rivals just adds up and they lose thier speed, reflexes and ability to think from all that battering in thier brain. Then with age thier bodies just dont recover soft tissue injury as well, not to mention wear and tear and then lose thier strength, endurance and range of motion while becoming painful to make certain movements.
My favorite but that's the last guy was so stinking big . This fight was ridiculous
His humility and nice demeanor paid off. Holyfield could have really hurt him if he wanted to.
Not blowing my trumpet, but remember having big arguments and making bets with people that Evander would beat Mike Tyson.
Ture, the real deal Holyfield
creio que Holyfield e David Tua foram os melhores em sua época, sabiam fazer o espetáculo
He wasn't hitting him hard, it was more of an exhibition and a payday for the other dude.
I'm surprised fight last this long
"ill take half" yo what
Taxes going to take about half lol.
Evander was my boxing hero, so it wasn’t about the money. I just wanted the fight.
He didn’t have too but he gave me more than the original offer.
Yo what ? Is right. Guys 11 losses must have been by KO to make a statement like that.
@@beast0107if that's you, Mr Bates, you're one tough dude!
@@franksantucci3038only a fighter would understand
He was a true warrior, no doubt. Even though his head contributed a lot to it.
Completely masterful!!!!!
I would have loved to see Evander Holyfield & Mike Tyson box in Mohammed Ali's and Joe Frasier's era that would have been some of the most aswsome fights in history look at big George Forman & Sunny Liston just think how it would of been with all these world Heavy weight champions going at it with there talent & skills it would have been great.😊 Thanks Evander for a Awsome boxing career🥊
1:18 Who told you to pronounce Chris *Byrd's* name as "Boyd"?
Evander, one of the best ever
Evander had great competition but he stayed in the ring too long. He should've retired sooner, and not ruin his record. Lennox Lewis, Larry Holmes, and Evander... great boxers and great champs.
Holyfield have no fear of any boxer
Evander Holyfield é Top Five em toda a História do Boxe Peso Pesado. Os cinco melhores de todos os tempos são: Evander Holyfield, Muhammad Ali, Lennox Lewis, Ridick Bowe e George Foreman.
there's a poster of Evander in the note ep Seinfeld
Very few champions know when to quit.
I think Holyfield was one of the greatest of all time technically boxer that ever lived. When he was in his prime no one could touch him no not one. Even Tyson couldn't Tyson couldn't get through his defensive technically style it frustrated him to no end that's why he bit Holyfield's ear off in the first place.
He bit his ear cause he already received sixty headbutts before that. And the referee refused to see it.
some champs just dont know when to quit
Whats crazy is that Holyfield should have been a 4 time champ at the age of 46, but he got robbed vs Valuev.
My sentiments exactly!! But in his hey day, he was what they called him "REAL DEAL" he's an all time Great, and very much underrated...
he was one of the greats@@franksantucci3038
I was thinking this was gonna be his boxing match with Matt Hardy 😅
I dont know of anyone that could beat Holyfield in his Prime !!
