Watching a Tyson fight back then was bigger than the Super Bowl to me. Everyone watched Tyson fight, even people that didn't even watch boxing watched. With Tyson fighting you didn't have to even think about was it going to be worth paying for the fight. Tyson always put on a masterpiece.
So true. Back then the lighter division champs all came into the ring with glorious regalia and robes. Mike stood in black boots with no socks. He was an animal in the ring.
No doubt he was one of a kind. Because of the time difference over here in the UK the fights were not normally on until about 4 in the morning (Vegas fights) so I would crawl in from the pub, stay up to watch his fight, normally about two minutes if you were lucky and then off to bed. Luckily in the days before pay per view over here so did not cost anything but certainly worth it. Still like watching the NFL and SB but the boxing is no way near as good as Tyson's era.
Ppl need to realize how dangerous Iron Mike Tyson really was! And, had it not been for the distractions outside the ring, the death of his manager, and lack of training, really, no training to the fighters he lost to, He'd be the goat over Ali and possibly retired undefeated. Dude was just that good...💪
Well said. If not beat Ali still..could have gone undefeated. Record goes as 44 KO 50 wins 6 Losses of this Legendary Tyson Bison or we can say 'Talks like a Teddy 🧸" "Mauls like a Grizzly"
When I was young and watched these fights, it seemed as if Tyson just destroyed people…which he did. But now that I am older I see how incredibly tough and courageous all his opponents were. They overcame a lot of fear to be in that ring with him.
Mike would only have to give me THAT stare in the middle of the ring with the ref at the start and you wouldn't see my arse for dust, I'd be outta there..!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
yes he did too show off before after his first fight with Donovan "Razor"Ruddock he jumped up onto the side of the ring and taunted Evander Holyfield who had watched the fight ringside! and challenged him to go into the lower area of the arena, the bottom level and go into a room to fight lock the door, and said the better fighter will come out with the key! check it out!
@@nathanscott7910 Pete Rivera is who I was replying to initially who said he loved how Tyson never showed off after a fight in this instance he did in my opinion by taunting Evander Holyfield
Took Tyson less than 2 hours of total ring time to defeat everyone, win all three belts and become the undisputed world boxing champion! This young man achieved this before he was old enough to buy alcohol! Boxing fans, like myself who experienced this in real time know Tyson is by far the greatest boxer EVER! They used to say if you had tickets to a Tyson fight don't waste money paying for parking just leave your car running at venue entrance because you'll be back in 5 mins! 😃😄😃
All facts! Unbelievable talent but even the greatest Battleship is reduced to "just a target" without its rudder. Who among us could handle the instant fame and money as a 20 y.o.? No one comes to my mind either...
I love Tyson's footwork, so fast and precise, always keeping him in a position to put his body into his punches and to avoid big shots. For a fighter so busy with his punches, he was hard to hit cleanly.
THE most complete boxer of his generation. IRON MIKE had it all, a true mastery of the art of boxing, which I doubt we will ever see again in the heavyweight division.
Complete? He had no jab, no footwork and a glass chin. But I'm not saying he wasn't an incredible boxer, because he was, but prime Tyson wouldn't have lasted 5 rounds with prime Ali. He wouldn't have been able to hit Ali.
@@joeduffy3309 you have to be kidding……this might be the dumbest comment I’ve ever read…….he only lost his head movement at the end of his career…….boxing experts still talk about his ability to never get hit with that peekaboo style that Cuss taught him …….also how was a 5 foot 9 boxer have a great jab when he was usually giving up 4 to 5 inches ….im not even wasting my breath with this comment…….you definitely don’t watch a lot of boxing. Respect to all the men that stayed in, knowing there were going to go down and continued to fight with all they had against Tyson. Take peace in knowing the loss you took from Tyson was from one of the top 5 greatest of all time. A legend and champion among champions.
U damn rite, in my opinion Prime Tyson will always be the undisputed greatest heavyweight to ever step in the ring. The Buster Douglas loss was a combination of lack of training and lack of interest in the sport and most importantly the lack of Cus D'Amato or however u spell it
After looking back on all of these, I'm impressed with Ribalta more than any other Tyson's opponents he beat early on. How did that guy take those shots for 10 rounds? Unreal.
Ribalta was running on adrenaline and mind chatter trying to convince himself, “Nobody has that much speed & power”...After Tyson made a name for himself, half of his opponents were psyched out before they stepped into the ring.😉
For real man, I know any one of those big punches would have laid most men out cold. Ribalta could definitely take a punch and keep in the game to an unreal degree
I always wonder if modern fighters could figure it out and counter punch his aggressiveness. Back then they were all just overwhelmed and at times scared. I feel like today Tyson’s reckless style would get him knocked out here and there. Maybe…idk. Lol Mike is my all time fav boxer hands down, so I’m just speculating. Hard to imagine how past athletes would do in todays climate with any sport.
He's a freaking beast. I remember that some times when I'll take a seat at a bar, ask for a beer and by the time I got my beer. The fight was over. Freaking awesome fighter. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍
Total respect to any fighter brave enough to get into a ring with him - in his prime, he was frightening ! Astonishing hand speed, tremendous head movement and footwork all made it very difficult to hit him back, and, at the same time, generated devastating power. Before the fight started, his death stare was truly chilling. From the first bell, he's straight up and at 'em, in their face - relentless, merciless, utterly savage, until the job's done. The beatings suffered by Thomas, Biggs and Ruddock were especially brutal, even by Tyson's standards. He wasn't a boxer - he was a black hearted assassin !
A guy at nineteen is a kid. Tyson at nineteen was a beast and a wrecking machine fighting with 6'4" men and destroying them to pieces. The youngest ever heavyweight world champion at 20, this record will never be beaten.
I remember watching every single Tyson fight and remembering that it was a must to start watching well before the match started because it often only lasted a minute or two. Nobody was in his League in the 80’s! He could end careers with that uppercut of his!
I still get goosebumps watching the stuff now. I'm only 37, but watching back it feels like another dimension. He's changed so much, it was such a different exciting time back then
What most people don't give Tyson credit for is his impeccable defensive skills moving forward. I've never seen anyone evade an attack while stepping into them quite like Mike. He had incredible ring intelligence and masterful timing In his attack though, his power really came from his legs, squatting down before generating tremendous force driving from his feet, legs, hips and shoulders. His fists were just the messenger. He often threw the least amount of punches but landed so many of the ones he did throw making him one of the most accurate hitters ever By the way, regardless what the judges said Tyson won that Roy Jones jr fight 😑
One moment comes to mind..in the 1st rd against Berbick, Tyson slipped probably one of the fastest, heaviest left hooks I've ever seen thrown. Incredibly difficult to even land a punch on him in his early years...he was so damn good.
@@manabouttongue That's right. Buster had big fluke. Tyson was without training and after a trip to Japan and Buster was saved by the gong. He could regain his strength and condition, enough to overcome a very tired Tyson
Mike had Speed , Power, Agility , Calm , Focus, and the Energy to deliver equal blows to opponents throughtout the match .. NEVER AGAIN WILL ANYONE HAVE ALL IN ONE
it was an honor to see this man in his prime. To me, he is the best ever. He was the devil in a sport of demons. That face he made as he swung for power showed his killing intent.
Respect to Ribalta for having stood back up and come back to the fight after taking the beating and brutal punches he took. Many would have faked KO to stop earlier. My God I would not want to be his neurons… but he clearly is very courageous.
You have to admire Tyson's speed and power. What is truly amazing is his footwork and his movement. His placement of his punches echoed from where he was positioned, the power and speed just amplified it.
He has definitely come a long way .. It's amazing listening to him talk about his struggles and life in general and is far more thoughtful and articulate and has insight and real wisdom.. much more than most people would ever expect judging by his earlier days.. I wouldn't get in the ring with him.. no way
I love Mr. Tyson and his incredible live journey. He said, " I was a beast. But Cus died before he taught me how to turn it off." Deep on so many levels.
@@dikobraz3556 Its opinion but I disagree. Tyson has one of the best boxing records amongst all-time greats. People are good for trying to discredit him. The bums card to he lost in the 90's to greats. But its all opinions and not relevant to his outstanding record. All fighters don't defeat the top boxer's of their era. That doesn't diminish their achievements. A 50-6 record in the Heavyweight division is no small achievement. No excuses, a successful boxing record amongst Legends is valid. Win-loss-draws are a statistical method of evaluating where a fighter ranks. The bums card doesn't carry weight over his outstanding record
@@trevinhickman9022 All Time Greats? Who? You obviously don’t know shit about boxing! What all time great has Tyson beat besides an old Larry Holmes? I’ll wait?
Even though these other contenders lost, they had the cajones to go one on one in the ring with the force of nature that was mike Tyson. Props to each and every one of them.
@@wesleypresley1000 Tyson had Douglas on the mat for almost 14 seconds, doesnt really matter what he says. Also Tyson never trained for that fight, showed up doped out of his mind and drunk. Still technically beat Douglas before he finally got Tyson. If you dont believe me, simply watch the fight, the ref wasnt counting him out. Now to be fair, most of that is on Tyson, totally his own fault, I admit that. But at that point, thats just who Tyson was. He no longer deserved to win, because he no longer cared.
fight commentator - "The first punch sent his mouth piece flying and the second punch sent something else flying out of his mouth, I hate to even think what that was."
He had the intimidation of Liston, the speed of Ali, the endurance of Marciano, but most of all his own impatience, which turned out to be his weakness. He hated the ring bell. He was in a race with time. He was so good he depreciated boxing in general. Most opponents look like they're thrown in the lion's cage.
Don King in his later years was his "weakness" King wanted him fighting as often as he did when he was younger (King Greed) but of course his trainers new he needed a little extra time between fights to rest and train for the next fighter but King wouldn't have it . Hence inner turmoil between King and Mikes' trainers , Mike lost his Long time (from the beginning) trainers and his "weakness" began ! Don't be a know it all , I was from CATSKILL NY , LIVED THERE FOR MANY YEARS AND YES , WHEN MIKE WAS THERE !
This video did an outstanding job illustrating Mike's ability to fight his way inside the bigger opponents and use his speed and power to get them out. Mike's 2 best fights in my opinion are his fights with Donovan "Razor" Ruddock. Mike proved in those 2 fights that he had an excellent chin and could still fight at an extremely high level despite the loss of Kevin Rooney as trainer. Mike was the best and I was very lucky to get the opportunity to grow up watching him.
Excellent chin? Are you kidding? Maybe in the late 1980s and early 1990s (a weak heavyweight period) he had successes against cherry picked fairly weak opponents (aging Holmes, Spinks, Birbeck) to add to his myth; no doubt. Then out of prison he came into the golden age of heavyweight bouts. He couldn’t hack it and resorted to biting and breaking arms. A weak mental fighter and that was his downfall. But enjoy all the big slugs against the weak opponents all you like…
Gotta agree.. Tyson showed a lot in those two fights.. That, when he trains hard and is focused in on his opponent, he can go all 12 rounds and not look tired.. Like he did against Busta Douglas, Evander Holyfield, and others he lost to.. I don't think they would've out boxed Tyson had he trained
@@KP-yq8id Finally, someone who understands boxing. Tyson looked good against a lot of second rate fighters. IMO young Ali would have beaten Tyson. But that's just a fantasy fight.
Tyson was like no other . He was “ the most feared man anywhere “ for a reason in his early career . That’s why they call him “ the baddest man on the planet “
It's the advantage of his build, coordination, strength and athletic ability. He had the speed to get inside quickly, threw insanely fast combinations with short powerful arms and had KO power in both hands. If he couldn't do that......he was in trouble. At that point, he actually had to think his way through a fight and reach down deep to win. Many times he couldn't(or wouldn't even try to) find a way to win. That kept him from being great. But he was still a very unique heavyweight that was as exciting as any heavyweight in history. Couldn't wait to see a Tyson fight in the late 80s!
@oddity21 I don't get why people think that was true. There was two versions of Tyson. The fighter, before prison, and the one after. He went the distance against a very tough fighter in (34-0) Tony Tucker. Once Tyson figured out that the guy wasn't going to succumb to his aggressive style, Tyson adapted to out-boxing him for the decision. Tyson very much adapted his game plan for that fight, when he couldn't overpower Tucker.
@oddity21 *Watches fight for the 4th time.* That's not what happened in that fight. Tyson was pressing in the 1st round, got stunned by an uppercut, but stayed aggressive with Tucker holding onto Tyson, anytime he got hit. The second round led to Tyson working the body and then going to the head. He was getting the better of Tucker, but kept himself in check from leaving his chin open. About round 6 is when Tyson got on his bicycle and started working the jab to great affect. Tucker had landed a abysmal 22% of his jabs by the 4th round and by the 8th Tyson had landed 76% of his. Tyson was straight up working his jab and wearing Tucker down. Tyson stayed patient and hunkered down for the long haul. He's not one dimensional like Deontay Wilder.
@oddity21 I'm not hangin' on Tyson's nuts. The dude had footwork, a good defense and could rely on his jab. He just had to do more of that in his fight against Tucker. How do you not see that? Tyson out-jabbed the much taller Tucker in that fight. Yeah, after Rooney was gone and Tyson came out of prison, he very much became the fighter that you described, but that wasn't the case earlier in his career.
Imagine being the current heavyweight champion of the world & in your next fight you are considered the underdog against and up-and-coming newcomer... That's how good Mike Tyson was! #legend
I believe that IF Cus hadn’t have passed away when he did, and Mike hadn’t have parted company with Kevin Rooney, he would’ve undoubtably been an immense force in the Heavyweight division, and possibly becoming THE Greatest of all time. The only man to beat Mike Tyson, was Tyson himself. You cannot go to prison for 6years, come out, and still be as good as you were, NO ONE can do that! However, Mike has gone on to become a better human being nowadays, than he was back then. He will always be a favourite of mine, no matter what. 🥊
Arfa M: You are "right as rain." There's not another professional athlete who had to overcome what Mike did. That began as a youngster and followed him through his career. That P O S, Don King, will burn in hell. He screwed over everyone associated with him. I don't give a damn what anyone thinks, or believes. Tyson overcame more in one year than others will have to try and overcome during a lifetime. I have more respect for him than anyone else in all of professional sports. Mike, you keep hanging tough. Screw the haters and doubters.
Even with all the shit he had to go thru. His is the most technical and most powerfull boxer ever. And in my eyes the nr 1 in the ring then and now at 53 years old in life.
It just shows Cus D'Amato's brilliance. The peekaboo style turns size into a disadvantage. Though, it needs insane stamina, speed, reflexes as well as a lifetime of practice, to truly get it right. Tyson was simply perfect for it. Too bad that Don King intervened and strayed Tyson away.
murderous intent behind every punch.. you can see it. Dude was trying to knock people's heads into orbit. To be that fast and powerful at 20 years old is amazing. Most of us are barely a year or two removed from high school working at Mcjobs.. and this guy was on the path to being a world champ at 20.
I was born in 1961. I remember the 'controversy' of Cassius Clay becoming Muhammad Ali. My dad, a boxing fan, born in 1921, who knew the guys from the Great Era, Joe Louis, Max Schmeling, Marcel Cerdan, Rocky Marciano, let me stay up to watch the fights between Frazier, Forman, Norton, Clay/Ali. The Rumble In The Jungle. The Thrilla In Manila. I did a bit of boxing myself. Some French boxing (Savate) too. But I was too lazy to excersise properly. Relying on my natural speed and very hard punch. I destroyed a boxing machine once at a local fairground. But that ain't enough to make it as a pro, or even as an amateur. Watching Mike Tyson in the eighties, I didn't really like him. Too much of an animal. No real boxer, I thought. Just a lion jumping at its prey. Kept clawing until the prey was conquered. Later, rewatching some of his bouts, I came to realise that Tyson was close to a genius. Maybe without realising it himself. The talent, the intelligence, the movement, the speed, the punch, the determination, the rage. He had the best parts of all the great boxers who came before him. And at the time, because of an unsimpathetic press, he wasn't seen for what he was. Misjudged, mis-interpreted, misunderstood, miscast and even outcast. Today, I see him for what he is and has always been. A Great Man and after Ali, the best boxer to ever walk this planet. And I like him. For what he was and for what he is today. Respect.
You forget his insane accuracy. He lands almost all of his shots beautifully and it's bullseye every time at vital points. He's a god damn sniper running on full auto mode
Great footwork. Great defence. Great offence. Great positioning. Great stamina Great chin. And it all flowed so naturally you as I needed some years to actually see and appreciate it.

Just imagine if Cus would have been around for 5 or 6 more years? As it is Mike is an awe inspiring example of what a human being is capable of. Even more amazing is the wonderful person Mike has become since those early days, God bless him and his family.
I guess I choose to not judge Mike on is mistakes when he was in his 20s. I honestly don't know how I would have done had I gone from absolute poverty to incredible wealth and notoriety in my 20s with no family or mentors to help me make wise decisions. I for one can admit that I was far from perfect when I was in my 20s and I had a rather "normal" life. I have watched him turn into a very thoughtful honest and seemingly compassionate man. It seems he has found success and happiness. So I say Good for him!
and at one point in his career when he and Robin Givens were having marital problems he was even trying to kill some of his sparring partners!! trying to take some of the frustration out on them you couldn't have paid me enough to spar him back then or now! Lol
Everyone talks about Tyson's power. Tyson had great footwork and accuracy with his punches. Compare how his opponents move their feet. He stood where he could throw the punch, and he moved to where he avoided the hard punch of the opponent. He had SKILLS.
You're right. Surely. But he didn't have a weak blow. He also had the thickest neck if he had to take the blows on the head. Certainly the neck helped him as a shock absorber. Of course, Tyson was very agile and as you mentioned, precise, but also physically durable/resist. He was perhaps the most complete boxer
Recently, I read a post from someone who said that Mike was one of the few fighters Ali said he would not want to mix it up with. So that's a hell of compliment to Tyson!!!
Tyson said he was the toughest guy he ever fought with the strongest chin. The guy was a rock but nothing could withstand Prime Tyson but Ribalta deserves serious respect. He was hit 220 times in that fight! Jesus….

It's because he stands square-on to the opponent with his arms up like a praying mantis. This makes both his arms ready for power strikes, and he is able to swing them back and forth like a pendulum of death. He pulls his left arm in and back and twists his right arm into the opponent, this makes his left hook wound up and ready to explode. He never really stands orthodox, his chest is always facing the opponent. And when close up to the opponent, he can still strike while the opponent only knows how to do full length jabs and hooks. He is basically a double dagger fighting a spear.
Something I always noticed about Tyson, you can hear his punches landing, even with bad audio, the crowd and the announcers yammering on, Tysons punches always sounded like they hurt! Some of these dudes are still knocked out 30 years later, even their kids feel it😐
Tyson was, in a word, terrifying. His power, strength and destructive force were truly frightening. I can't imagine the fear his opponents must have felt. Sad that he got involved with Don King.
True to everything you've just said. Don King was the 2nd worst thing to happen to Tyson after RobinGivens. A real piece of shxt next to Don King. They both suck as humans. Scum of the earth that's how I see them. They're nothing but 2 venomous 🐍. Mike Tyson is better off without those 2 🐍.
People overlook the fact that we never got a "prime" version of Tyson. He was a kid, still learning a lot about the game, and very much a student of the sport when he was thrust into the title picture at 19-20 years old. Then as champion, was manipulated by a villainous and greedy woman, and another even more despicable man in Don King, who led to him firing his corner and believing himself invincible. At age 23, he goes to prison for 4.5 years, (somehow) ends up back with Don King, and has tomato cans lined up in front of him before facing Evander Holyfield. Tyson had no interest in taking fighting seriously after the age of 21, and would mostly headhunt in the fights instead of displaying his tactical combinations and body shots. Ali gave away prime years for being a coward about the draft, and was forgiven with an asterisk when he lost to Joe Frazier and Ken Norton (all three times, but was gifted two illegitimate wins). Tyson had far more obstacles in his situation, yet was laughed at for losing to Holyfield and declared a never-was. So when Tyson should have been giving us his "prime" from 23-30 or so, he was instead wasting his time, his talents, his money, and his freedom with bad people and prison. It was a case of perhaps the most wasted talent in sports history. And yet he STILL was as impressive as he was, and perhaps the most memorable heavyweight champ of all-time because of the way he fought. SIDE NOTE: He also wasn't a slugger who got tired after 4 rounds as some have claimed, as evidenced by the fact that fights with Ribalta, Ruddock, Green, and others, he was still as fast and powerful in round 10 as he was in round 1. The guy had the work ethic and fitness in his early days to go the whole way. It was always about his motivation, not his fitness.
Ali was not a coward in any sense of the word is the only exception I would make to your statement. He did not see the purpose in going to Vietnam and he had no grudge with Vietnamese people and he didn’t really believe in the domino theory or the greater geopolitical game. But listen to him confront this white heckler in a video on TH-cam where he says “those people never called me the N-word“, those people never did anything to me. He is filled with fire and then indignation and there’s nothing funny about it. You can say a lot of things about Ali, but coward isn’t one of them.
Ali a coward? Lol. Going against the government took far more courage than going to Vietnam to do matches. At that time America wasn't even treating black people right, yet they sent us to the Frontlines.
With cus and kevin he would of retired undefeated and led a totally different life as you say a terrible shame and waste of real boxing talent in comparison to the boring fight e See today
Being that I’m 5’8” I think it is a distinct advantage to fight someone the same weight that’s taller than me. When I get inside and I realize they can’t push me backwards, then an uppercut is deadly. It’s very easy body mechanics to extend the legs at the same time as the uppercut for tremendous power. I watched Tyson in my youth and this technique has served me well for years.
Until he fought a very long , snap punching , Buster Douglas who dominated him with his jab and had no fear. Also in the heavyweight division you are not the same weight most of the time . Appreciate your comment but if the talent is equal a good big man will beat a good little man everytime. No offense.

I dont think even Rooney could control him without Cus. A lot of people dont realize that Cus was a licensed psychologist and actually used hypnotherapy on Tyson. Tyson himself admitted it in a special done about him. Once Cus died, nobody was going to control him that didnt actually love him and have his respect.
he would have easily broken Rocky Marciano's perfect record of 52-0!! no doubt in my mind Cus D'Amato and Tyson's original crew would have seen to it!!
I think some of his speed also came from knowledge and how he was drilled. He would often at his fastest launch combinations rather than single punches. While some other boxers would go in with the intent to launch a jab and then and straight. He'd launch a one-two. The straight just coming out almost as a part of launching the jab. The whole sometimes quoted, "Make two punches sound like one." and "throw punches in bunches" thing.
And you'll notice that most people tend to probe and test during the first rounds, so they aren't really going all in because they tried to assess and test their opponents.... But Mike Tyson just went in straight to kill from the start. It's like his opponents are still in the sparing mindset but he's a legit killer looking to murder
and you have good reason to have feared his "registered lethal weapon" hands, every professional boxer I'm told must legally register their hands as lethal weapons" !!
I love watching Tyson beat the crap out of these big, powerful men. I especially enjoy watching him completely dominate Larry Holmes and punch his lights out, fulfilling his promise to Ali.
It was the lightning quickness coming outta nowhere that did the damage. They can't see to defend against those. That's what Tyson lost when his life went to hell.

Mike had it all until the man with the big words every dollar he promised you half you never get and that's Don King. When Cus died Mike got arrogant cocky started coming uncontrollable left Kevin Rooney his trainer to go with Team Tyson. If could've, should ve and hindsight all ways be 20/20 we can say. Mike put fear in his opponents his no robe no socks refuses to lose combined with his punching power had the world eating out his hand. Mike blew it and most of all that money as well.
Thst was me after being bullied In primary school to the point of rage. One punch! Game over. My bully friends became my congenial friends to this day. I was short too. No one likes an opponent that is fearless. Mike has hunched shoulders, no neck to talk about, a Titanium jaw and an old boxers stance. No dancing around. A foward tilt that brought him up into your arms almost, then he would swing Thors Hammer. What amI have always been amazed at were the best punches his opponent got to swing either missed because of his bobbing and weaving or glanced off his shoulder. Yes, he did get floored, but I suspect he wasn't in the best physical condition. Drinking and smoking weed wouldn't help.

What most people don't give Tyson credit for is his impeccable defensive skills moving forward. I've never seen anyone evade an attack while stepping into them quite like Mike. He had incredible ring intelligence and masterful timing
In his attack though, his power really came from his legs, squatting down before generating tremendous force driving from his feet, legs, hips and shoulders. His fists were just the messenger.

Tyson was like no other . He was “ the most feared man anywhere “ for a reason in his early career . That’s why they call him “ the baddest man on the planet “
Its pretty crazy how he was able to throw so many consecutive punches all with equal power
Steriods.
@oddity21
*Watches fight for the 4th time.*
That's not what happened in that fight.

Respect.
Thanks for sharing.
You forget his insane accuracy. He lands almost all of his shots beautifully and it's bullseye every time at vital points.

Tyson could handle defeat. That's why Ali was the greatest. He could handle defeat.
If Cus was still around at the time, he would never let Don King anywhere near Mike.
damn!!...he was really trying to kill his opponents...
and at one point in his career when he and Robin Givens were having marital problems he was even trying to kill some of his sparring partners!! trying to take some of the frustration out on them you couldn't have paid me enough to spar him back then or now! Lol
I remember watching Tyson as a kid, the man was a marvel, He was the Jordan of the Boxing world
Rebalta's staredown: 'im trying to make you scared'.
Mike's staredown: 'MEAT'
Have a look at Screamin' Jay Hawkins - "I'll put a spell on you"..same expression, 😁
Everyone talks about Tyson's power. Tyson had great footwork and accuracy with his punches. Compare how his opponents move their feet. He stood where he could throw the punch, and he moved to where he avoided the hard punch of the opponent. He had SKILLS.
Not to mention he's great impregnable defense
You're right. Surely. But he didn't have a weak blow. He also had the thickest neck if he had to take the blows on the head. Certainly the neck helped him as a shock absorber. Of course, Tyson was very agile and as you mentioned, precise, but also physically durable/resist. He was perhaps the most complete boxer

Jose Ribalta took a lot of shots better than most of Tyson's opponents. Tough man!
Yes.
Tyson said he was the toughest guy he ever fought with the strongest chin. The guy was a rock but nothing could withstand Prime Tyson but Ribalta deserves serious respect. He was hit 220 times in that fight! Jesus….

@@wegihuaskale5421 Ali was the best. Louis was the 2nd best. Then it gets debatable but I would put Lewis 3rd.
In close range combat
Something I always noticed about Tyson, you can hear his punches landing, even with bad audio, the crowd and the announcers yammering on, Tysons punches always sounded like they hurt! Some of these dudes are still knocked out 30 years later, even their kids feel it😐

I have so much respect for professional boxers.
Tyson was, in a word, terrifying. His power, strength and destructive force were truly frightening. I can't imagine the fear his opponents must have felt. Sad that he got involved with Don King.
Drug cheat
True to everything you've just said. Don King was the 2nd worst thing to happen to Tyson after RobinGivens. A real piece of shxt next to Don King. They both suck as humans. Scum of the earth that's how I see them. They're nothing but 2 venomous 🐍. Mike Tyson is better off without those 2 🐍.

i dare to say he probably better than Ali cause he had to overcome size of opponent with speed, skill and power. Ali was already big and he was good.
@@kitrichardson2165 yeah tell'em
Ali a coward? Lol. Going against the government took far more courage than going to Vietnam to do matches. At that time America wasn't even treating black people right, yet they sent us to the Frontlines.
With cus and kevin he would of retired undefeated and led a totally different life as you say a terrible shame and waste of real boxing talent in comparison to the boring fight e See today

Not a chance in hell. Tyson wasnt even top 5 of the 90s and the mid 80s HW era was a f#€king joke.
I had never noticed before until now that Tyson had tremendous power in both hands!
Yep. Left hook, upper cut and straight right were deadly. He really had it all
That uppercut would nearly decapitate you!
How did u ever watch him before and not noticed that?
I could watch Tyson fights for hours. He’s brilliant!
No offense.
In the boxing ring maybe where rules protect you. In a real fight no chance because the longer body will manhandle you.....
So have you KILLED someone yet?
@@levondarratt787 OP clarified same weight, different height. In real world fight, taller person only has advantage in distance. Real world fight, that distance gets closed fast and it’s tackle and grapple.

Jesus, my God, this man is so awesome I wish he never went to jail and fought. I wish he never went with Don King. Can you just imagine where he would of been if he stayed with Kevin Rooney!
@@mcb7691 not easy. The 90s was loaded, Old Foreman, Holyfield, Bowe, Lewis, Tua, Ike, Mercer, Morrison, tough competition even in Tyson's prime
The referee job done, possibly saved Ruddick from a severe brain trauma, hats off to both fighters.
The great MIKE TYSON,
The legendary boxer that the history can never be forgotten in our planet.
I think he was bronze painted black black because he was solid
Am not a boxer and never throw my hand but Mike Tyson scares me and I always feel frightened for his opponents in the ring.
and you have good reason to have feared his "registered lethal weapon" hands, every professional boxer I'm told must legally register their hands as lethal weapons" !!
Mike is like unstoppable tank, he's like a monster that keep coming until you down, i feel sorry for any boxer that go against him, watched his fight really worth the money, i heard every time he's fighting, some city goes empty cause they're all watched him fight

Dam straight, and I've watched him since he was in gold gloves, a true gladiator. Who wanted to destroy you.
