- The plaintiff says she’s the mother of twin sons, and one of them died of a rare form of cancer at age 27. She says she paid the defendant to make a video about him, but the quality was poor, so she’s suing for breach of contract, event space, and distress. The defendant says he loved the plaintiff’s son, and he insists he did everything he was paid to do and he owes nothing

So sad. I had the same rare cancer when I was 19 called soft tissue sarcoma. I was also pregnant with one of my daughters at the time. Fortunately I survived and am now 37 years of age. I am so sorry for the loss of her son. 🙏🏽I wish we could have seen the entire video though. Idk what to think about the outcome of the case.

I agree with JM's decision in this case. To say that he "stole her child's memory " was a far stretch. I understand that people grieve differently. However, some like the space they are in and the sympathy they get for losing a loved one, as is the case with this mom. She's already made money off the son's death. Now, she wants to watch the funeral over and over again. While the video may not be quality, he's not responsible for her grief. Mom should have known better to have supporting documentation with irrifutable facts. I'm sorry for the circumstances.
Mommy I know your heart & soul is broken but you need to put that anger into a rightful place. Take that anger and put it into fighting cancer on brhalf of others! Prayers Up Mommy 🌹

I honestly don’t know how to feel about this case.
So sad for her son. But I’m just trying to figure out what he did wrong? Of course there were gonna be people in the video she didn’t know. You don’t know every single person your son was around.

She did try to mislead judge when mentioning the videoing of the funeral. That’s when she started to talk during the video and he kept telling her to hush. She got a lot of money and probably spent through it like water.

Hmm. I’m not sure. The short clip that we saw from the video could have been a lot better in my opinion, but it seems that emotions have the plaintiff stuck in a rut of (possible) misinformation as evidenced by her accusing the defendant of losing footage that he clearly says he still has, and also saying that he moved to Florida, when he says that he did not. He doesn’t want to be disrespectful to her, so he’s treading lightly, and she is understandably emotional over the loss of her son, so she’s going in hard.
He’s not a professional and she wanted a MUSIC VIDEO. I would’ve just ask for a video with his loved ones telling their special memories of him with some gospel music playing in the background then added the footage of her son talking about her at the end.
And even still, he said he has the footage and instead of her asking if he can send her the footage so she can take it to a professional she decided to accuse him of wrongdoing.
She hurt and lashed out. She should have viewed the video ahead of time to Allow for edits. And identifies specific clips she wanted to be included. Seriously with technology now, someone in the family could have done this. If she wanted all the videos he had of her son when he was making music she should have asked for that.
She did admit they did editing and reviewing a month b4 !! that’s why I’m like what she lashing out for lol

I will never understand people hiring others that don't have that much experience in something as in photography or videographing for parties, weddings, funerals etc etc and expect the best especially a friend of the family! seems like one would want to pay more money from someone whose much more experienced and have years under their belt.. then run to court!

The lady isn’t upset about not having the footage she wanted, she’s upset because she couldn’t get her money back. All she had to do was ask him to send her all the footage and she’ll take the footage to a PROFESSIONAL video editor to get the type of video she wanted.
I’ll this as a videographer myself when you’re asking for footage shot of her someone with little to no purpose behind it it’s hard making a video out of it. She’s talking about “it’s out of focus” but maybe that’s just what he got from your son. Ppl believe this stuff is very easy and it’s not

As sad as this case it, I think she has misplaced anger and emotions. I think he did the best he could to make the video but he is an amateur. It sounds like she was mistaken about a lot of details.
I have missed feelings about this case. We didn't watch the entire 4 minute video so we really can't make a judgment call there re everything he was accused of. Also, seems there were communication issues regarding what was required. The plaintiff complained about poor audio...perhaps the audio in the original footage was bad to begin with? Where I really fault the defendant, was going late...but let's face it, even if he arrived on time, she would've still taken him to court. I just think he did what he thought was right by including the ppl who showed up to support the family at the funeral. Sad all around.

I was going to say the same thing about the audio. You can't fix bad audio on a past production which is how he pieced together this video by using old footage. She really couldn't blame him for that. The only thing he did wrong was showing up late but not understanding why he'd need to be there at 8AM for a 4 minute video.
Coincidentally and for comparison sake I just did a 6 minute tribute video for a funeral that just happened this past Saturday and I only had to be there 15 minutes before the start of the service to plug my laptop into their projector.
That video for $600/ $900? WOW... She deserve some money back for sure

I think that this is a case of miscommunication. I may be wrong, but I think that she was expecting allll of his footage to be in this 5-minute video, and because she didn't see it all, she assumed that he wasn't going to give it to her. He kept saying, "I have the footage." She should have said, "Can I have it?"

I’m amazed that she received emotional and financial support from all over (a true blessing) and yet would take her son’s good friend to court over that video (sad). Still, my sincere condolences for such a beautiful life lost.
He sure did charge the woman he highly respected a lot of money for a friend he really loved. Then if she was unsatisfied with his work he could've worked out something with her knowing she was grieving!

You can't dress up audio from footage that looked like it was recorded on a moto razor flip phone. I see nothing wrong with the video. But I feel he charged her alot for his friend/her son

I’m sorry for her loss. I now what it’s like to have sarcoma, I had Undifferentiated Liver Sarcoma at the age 3-8 and it’s still affects me til this day. I pray for who are battling, survivors and their caretakers we are so strong, beautiful and brave

The judge is very literal like Judge Judy is. She said the defendant had footage of the funeral service. Based off of what she said, JM was expecting to see footage of the actual service, not everybody gathering outside. I personally was expecting to see a casket. With people like him (literal thinkers) you have to be very particular about what you say, and it has to match the evidence (in this case). If it doesn't, then they will dismiss everything you say. There is very little room for correction or error with them. I'm married to one and he is the exact same way. I also have a sister like that.
Well the solution to that is just be prepared and don't fuck up

Mom seemed a bit frazzled presenting her case. Maybe it was nerves but to bring back any memory of her child passing had to really hurt.
The Defendant had all of this footage for a 4 minute video that was a mess. I think still pictures in a photo book woulda been way better than that video. She paid damn near $1000 for that…really?? 🙄
She didn't really have her case together. But she had alot to say after. Then I wonder why they waited to the day of to show the video to everyone. She should've saw it prior so she could say what she like or didn't like.

Condolences to this mom. My daughter beat SARCOMA CANCER TWICE. Never , ever had heard of SARCOMA. I was scared to death. I never, ever want to see my child go through that again. Watching your child suffer i think hurts you, more than them.
This case pissed me off. She lost her son. So what she can’t explain it right!!!!! I’ve seen the judge dog deeper for less. I don’t know if she’s right, but I feel safe had a right to explain better.

When you're in court you have to be prepared.. the emotions of her losing her son sad... But you cannot make a judgment off those emotions

When the video was shown there was no part of that in the video.. regardless of how emotional and sadden she is that is a huge part of the case that you must have corrected and if you're in such an emotional state where you cannot get the evidence together then how can I take anything else you say with the value.. you watch the show long enough to know the moment you miscommunicate evidence to say it in a nicer way (lie) he usually already has his mind made up 🤷🏿♂️

I feel she should’ve got some of her money back and what messed it up was that she didn’t have the paper with the agreement.
She was told he was good at his job and he told her he had a lot of footage of her son. Sometimes we be so quick to get something done or even support someone we know that we don’t do proper research.
Yes she mistaken the funeral for the repast, that happens, and they agreed it was to be memories of her son in the video.
I hope the rest of the footage have more of him in it and pray her and her family able to come out strong from the loss of their family member. My condolences 💐 🕊 🙏🏽

There’s no way you can edit footage to look better. The video was short for sure, but the audio issue is not his fault. I hope all parties can get pass this. 🥺🥺🥺🥺
One thing I can side with the mom is the video you would expect to see little more of him then anybody else. I mean I'm little lost too was he suppose to put record the funeral and make a tape out of that too? Now if mom wanted a video of her son. I think she wanted more him. Towards the end I was getting confuse who was her son? I'm taking the one thanking his mom and dad when she thought was bad recording, And btw that's a video in a video so you may not get sound like the original unless he has the right equipment to do it or truly lack on mastering and editing part, but it should have at least pictures of him in between the showing of other people. Or see a pic in a back ground. Show more video clips. Which I bet those are the files she talking about he deleted. Stating she saying you stole all his memories. If he has the other footage he needs to give it to her. But I seen the potential in his work though. So hopefully he still have the footages she gave him. He should try again maybe he'll do better. Not knocking him cause regardless he did some good work
I think she meant that he made a recording on the day of the funeral (which is a shame). She did not pay for a video of people attending the funeral. Anyone with a cell phone could do that. She paid for a video of her son's memories when he was alive. I have never seen a video at a funeral that include the people attending the funeral. Too bad that she did not know how to communicate that. The defendant is a horrible business man if he thinks the footage shown in the video is ok. She paid $900 for basically a sidewalk video of people standing outside of the funeral.
She said she made a lot of money off her son's death. I believe that was a way of keeping her son memory alive for her emotionally. People have different way of grieving. I think to pay 900 bucks is too much for a video like this. The audio was bad in this video. Sounded like it was recorded in a VHS video camera from the 80s. But as soon as she said he recorded video from the funeral. And yes most people believe the day of the funeral is part of the funeral. Legally it is not. A funeral is done at the cemetery. Mathis would have given her the benefit of a doubt if he put in footage from the wake.
