    The truth is.. if you are a cargo hauler in 3.22 you have absolutely no chance of getting away from a mantis anyway. Master modes will actually give you more of a chance. Provided you have some escorts or gunners. EM missiles are your best friend. If the mantis sits back at range take it down with missiles. If you are solo your best chance is to surrender open the ship, find a good choke point and try to kill the pirates when they try to board. Sadly the vast majority of cargo haulers are not ready to defend themselves and take huge risks. They really should organize among themselves and work together like the pirates do, it would be more fun for everyone.

    Uhm ... players could not run from a Mantis or Cutlass Blue in 3.22 either. This is not an MM thing.

      I could yeah, I fly ships topping out on 1300m/s... how fast can the cutty go again? little above 1100 I Im not mistaken... I usually bait the cutty towards me, coming thirsty, then I flown directly into the enemy cutty, go through it, and it wouldnt have time to turn and accelerate in time to catch me.

      Cutty Blue in 3.22 tops out at 1300. Also, if you're flying a ship topping out at those speeds, you're not in a ship being targeted by pirates.

    Best counter for a mantis at A18 is fighters, remove it because the mantis will be hostile with CS because of the QED.

    Area 18 has always had that problem and I have seen more patches drop on thursdays and especially fridays than any other days in the 5 yrs ive been playing

    It sounds like my Mantis is useful for a change. If its QED has a 12KM radius and faster than most ships I should be able to lock down a target and kite out of their weapon range at the same time. Sweeeeeet.

    Good thing I always make NB my home. 3.23 will be no different. I'll make sure to fly my Avenger or 135c when visiting Area 18, max power to thrusters.

    Yay, they finally put in a locator beacon of sorts for A18. Didn't notice if there was one for Orison but it definitely needs something as well.

    One thing about Master Modes is it isn’t finished being implemented. Things will be tweaked until they are happy with all the ships. They put everything in and once it goes live then they can start working on individual ships flight modes. The first iteration is always the hardest bump to get over.

      Except any tweaks needed could have been done to 3.22's model which never got the promised tweaks over the 4 years we had it.

      @@nuanil the problem was the flight model. The fights were never close and they want battles to remain close.
      In arena commander people were always on the outskirts of the map. Fights went on for hundreds of kilometers. This is why they changed it. They did not like it so they started working on master modes.
      Live is a terrible experience for new players and the combat is boring. People could use the flight model to exploit NPCs.
      Flying into combat now looks amazing and it looks great from afar. MM is in an early stage. It will be adjusted over time.

      @amigo3284 the fights are even further away now with every weapon having larger range.
      The only people jousting were new players, and those that were re-engaging after using a tactical disengagement to reset a bad position. And every issue people have with 3.22 was just made 10 times worse by mastermodes.
      If you really want to make fights closer, you shrink the weapon ranges.

      @@nuanil this is the first round, they have a lot to do. Jousting in this can happen yes, but it’s a lot easier to stay close. In live people are traveling at 1.2k meters a second with each other. Then they rotate like a turret cause it takes a long time to change direction at that pace.
      I’ve spent 100s of hours in the new MM. yes, there is a lot of work that needs to be done, it’s not at its final destination. The problem is people do not like change and fight it tooth and nail. MM isn’t going away, so the best feed back is to give constructive criticism, negative criticism doesn’t go anywhere and it causes hatred. Not sure about you, but when I am confronted with negativity with something I am doing I ignore those people (not saying CIG is), constructive criticism is so much better.
      Yogi said a while ago that MM is not ready for full release, but they need it to be in for other things they are doing. So, everything was put in with generic attributes. This includes weapons.

    I normally pick Orison, due to the view, but go to Area 18 to stock up with cloths and gear due to the limited availability at Orison. ;-)

    So they reduced the range of the mantis dampener, cuz 4 days ago was 20km. even 12 is absurd, how u supose to leave the area if you never ever will have the chance to shoot it, it will be at safe distance out of weapons reach, only missiles can reaally reach but mantis have a outragerous number of counter measures for it size its a terrible flaw.

      Yep, just check the change log on erkul, they reduced it from 20,000 to 12,000, and cutty black from 20,000 to 4000, Antares, from 20,000 to 5,000.

    I don't see how this changes much in the overall player behaviour :
    in 3.22 The Mantis is still the second fastest ship in the game [Max speed] (not counting interceptors and racing ships like the merlin , the p-52 ecc.) once either the Mantis or a cutty blue drops the QD ( 2km range) there is really nothing you can do if the mantis or cutty pilot can stay on your tail other than trying to kill that very ship.
    This being said there is a very easy tecnique to shake off anyone using a QED, just stop your ship, and start boosting in their direction, this is called jousting, if you can get out of range of the enemy before he understand what you're planning to do you have a chance at warping away; it works in 3.22, not sure about 3.23 with all the new mechanics, will have to test it out.
    the good thing about the mantis is the Snare (20km range) wich can only be used very far away from safe zones, wich makes escaping the mantis just a wet dream.
    If a player with a couple working neurons sees a mantis with some buddies, of course they have to think at the worst case scenario; but if you're warping to A18 to land, and you happpen to see that, even if a whole group of people gets on your tail you can simply boost for those 3 km or less till you get to safezone, sure you will be slower, but boost speed is still boost speed... The mantis will of course be faster than you, but that's normal, it's a quantum interdiction ship, it's a sort of specialization of classic interceptor ships.
    Personally in 3.22 every time i saw a mantis trying to QED or snare me i just laugh, cause unless they use the snare and run away at a safe distance ( 5km or more) i can just catch up and kill them, with a decently not slow ship that is; if however you're in a big ship like a 890, C2, reclaimer, argo, or anything similar... there is nothing you can do... and it's the same with the cutty blue, altough it's harder to stay on target with only 2 km QED range, and you'll be exposing yourself more.
    So yeah, if people want to use the QED close to safezone, you have a maximum distance of 4 kilometers to fly while being slowed, otherwise if they use a snare, they gotta place themself on the outskirt of the planet, since the snare has 20km radius, so 40km diameter, but at that point i don't even know if they will be able to spot you, so this is not gonna be a problem.
    P.S. I regularly do pirate gameplay in sc both to have fun and also to teach players that pirates are a thing, and if even 1 pirate, knows what he's doing he will ruin your day, if you disagree with anything i said feel free to leave a reply

    When 3.23 goes live, and better when 3.23+ drops, we are closser to NPC Crew and AI Blades, thedevs have said it wont be long, and its on the ROADMAP, so not long now, i really wnat to SOLO my Javelin, Perseus and Polaris, will also make using the Mole easier with my NPC Crew, cant wait for my BMM also, fully crewed and a real bitch in Pyro. Coming soon i am told by the community

      Just checked the change log, they changed it very recently, Mantis, from 20,000 to 12,000. and they also changed that for the Cutty blue, 4000 only right now, and Antares only 5000m now

    This has me wanting to melt my Herald... I looked at the numbers... The Mantis is faster by 5 when boosting. The Herald is faster by only 4 SCM. I know the boost on the Herald depletes quickly.... This is garbage...

    6:22 "605scm speed" - There is maximum acceleration also which is not mentioned anywhere in Erkul. Mantis has big mass, I'm sure it accelerates very slow even with boost, have to check this. Small ships of size 1-2 still should be able to get away from Mantis. Or get close to it.

      Mantis actually accelerates really fast, the drawback is it has very limited Hyd fuel

    As if there were no gankers above A18 prior to 3.23, so, how is this a MM problem?
    As if snared player, moving at his top speed, wouldn't get chased down by light fighters and get completely nuked by them in 3.22, as it always happened?
