@@ZaimGamePlayMiniature giant space hamsters are telepathic. Also if he is a miniature giant space hamster he’d be a monstrosity, not a beast meaning speak with animals wouldn’t work. Basically this makes it so Boo chooses who he wishes to speak to. Also it’s a joke meant to make you question whether Boo is a miniature giant space hamster or Minsc is just really stupid due to his head injury.

Theoretically, a Comprehend Languages spell is what you'd actually want to use, or perhaps Tongues.
@@ZaimGamePlay I would say that since SWA doesn't work on Boo, that it is now cannon that he isn't a natural hamster. Being able to just yeet him as a scout enforces this now established truth. He could be a sentient and telepathic miniature giant space hamster or he could be some other, still to be revealed, hyperpowerful being using or inflicted by a polymorph / shape change. It's still DnD, so options are still wide for future revelations.
Lol, Shadowheart definitely has the right of who is the pet and who is the master. It was also hilarious to see Boo sass Jaheira as well and everyone throwing Boo.

I kind thought Boo being a miniature giant space hamster was a joke in BG1 and 2. Seeing Boo is still alive after how many years? Now i'm not so sure... D:
He did spend most of that time as a statue. He and Minsc have only been un-petrified for about a decade.

The fact that they took the time... to record lines to throw a miniature giant space hamster that albeit only has a handful hitpoints (aid helps this + heroes' feast) is amazing.
Fun fact:
When called as a familiar, Boo has 20 hitpoints
As of the latest patch, Boo no longer takes damage when thrown. Yeet the boi to your heart's content.

If you don’t know the reason why they’re called _”Miniature Giant Space Hamsters”_ because within wildspace, those hamsters are actually bigger. Rangers in in wildspace usually have their bigger version as a companion. You can actually find their statblock within one of the most recent sourcebooks within the Spelljammer Trio Books.
I heard that the miniature versions are "wizards fault", just like the owlbears and other similar things. Apparently when a giant space hamster gets miniaturised, it also gains the super intelligence and the ability to communicate telepathically
@@AndreaB6As of current DnD canon, they leave that a mystery so DMs can run with it. Its like how they try their best to avoid giving a difinitive answer on where lycangtrhopy originates.

They were not, it truly is a literal hamster.
No, Boo is not a hamster, he is miniature giant space hamster. Giant space hamster were originally greated by gnomes to power their spelljamming vessels. They also serve as beasts of burden, general livestock and even pets (but only the minitaure variant). The gnomes did not know that the minitaure giant space hamster are much more intelligent than an ordinary giant space hamster (or even normal hamster) and also telepathic, and thus no ordinary beast.

@@IrisGlowingBlue Well, Spelljammer was never intended to be taken seriously. Take a look at the art of the original AD&D boxed set. Jim Holloway was known for his not serious illustrations. He was also the main illustrator of the original Paranoia RPG, which can really not be taken seriously.

Minsc and Boo had been turned to stone for 100 years or so (hence the "Stone Lord" nickname and the fact that Minsc is still alive and in his prime). Besides: Boo is a Forgotten Realms hamster.. maybe those have much longer lifespans than Earth-hamsters, even without being magical and/or of the miniature giant space-variety?

@@fjalarhenriksson Pretty sure Tav is the default name of the character in the character creation process for a custom character. Which is why everyone uses it as the name of a customer character protag. Not a trend.
@@fjalarhenriksson Baldur's Gate 3 was called Project Gustav while in development, to honor the projects name they used the default name as Tav.
It's not a trend it's in the game by default.

I always liked to believe that Boo was really some Great Gold Dragon or Deva in disguise. Some great power of good that assumed some harmless form to gently nudge and offer sage council without drawing attention to itself.

I thought Minsc/Wyll's "Go for the eyes" comment was an homage to Commander Shepard and her Space Hamster in the Citadel DLC.
Then I remembered that the Original Baldur's Gate (let alone DnD) predate Mass Effect and was also developed by Bioware. The Space Hamster in ME is an homage to Baldur's Gate!
I own a copy of BG2 signed by the OG Viconia's VA. :)

The really funny moments come later when you ask Minsc for his opinion about other companions. Gale got Minsc a dictionary, that kinda made my day. :D

I love this balls-to-the-wall-insane game. Throwing a willing space hamster as an effective ranged weapon, I did not see that one coming. 🤣
I screamed in utter horror when I saw Astarion throwing the great Boo. Only to then suffer through many more throws. Every time I hear Boo's gleeful squeaks followed by the splashy yet crunchy sound of him landing I get flashbacks of the squirrel.💀💀💀

Never quite got Jaheira's reaction after recruiting Boo and Minsc. *She* was the one who insisted on not killing him during the fight and that the Emperor should protect him afterwards. I don't know whether she leaves the party if you don't get the Emperor to protect him, but I'm pretty sure she does leave if you kill Minsc instead of knocking him out. And after all that... she starts telling you that doing as she demanded of you could be ... a huge mistake?

Because she is pragmatic druid and rescuing Minsc does nothing to defeat the Absolute. If you talk to her while using Halsin in Act 2 she states that, while they are both druids, she is not there to save the Shadowlands but rather to defeat the Absolute threat, and that nothing else matters. She even says that, as a druid, she might be not be acting the way Halsin expects, but that she does not have the resources to worry about anything else but the destruction of the cult.
The same thing applies to the rescue of Minsc: it does nothing to defeat the Elder Brain and the Absolute cult, yet, she is grateful that you didnt follow her way of thinking.
Of course. She knows that saving Minsc and stretching the Emperor's resources further by protecting him is a net drain on their ability to oppose the Absolute. But she really cares about him regardless and is glad that you were less pragmatic.

How do you have all the companions with you at once? Is that how it is later in the game or is it a mod?, i mean for my headcanon id like to think all of them are together 24/7 cuz it makes sense in a real world sense lol but game wise i see why it makes more sense to limit to 4
trust me i did a 10 man run with all companions and jaheira and minsc and either minthara and halsin it cluster HAHAHA.
but over all its pretty nice cause they have alot of banther in act 3

I’ve been so looking forward to recruiting these truly wonderful heroes. Sadly jehira died during the assault on moonlight towers and I’ve been informed she is required to recruit Minsk. Please someone tell me that’s wrong.
I think you're not wrong. In my playthrough, when I got to meet him, without her stopping him he just attacked me after shouting "you killed her", and he hard died even if I toggled non lethal damage.

I unfortunately had to kill Minsc in my playthrough. Without Jaheira to calm him down (in my playthrough, she died in the battle with Throm; so Minsc was convinced that I killed her) he was uncontrollable.
I was hoping that Boo would have scampered out of his hiding place after all the other threats were taken care of; but nope - he only comes out after Minsc is slaughtered/is subdued by Jaheira's presence.
If you use "speak with animals" will you be able to talk to boo?

Sorry but straight people do still exist, maybe create an option in character creation that specifies your sexual preference.
Even when you visit the nymph in the circus and specify who you have feelings for, say...karlach, other than that one interaction she doesnt show the slightest affection for you in camp, while all the males are ready to get it on....disturbing.

I mean you can build him however you like. He's a reoccurring character in the BG series and a fan favorite. In fact if you bring him and Jaheira on certain quests they'll add some context from their own adventures.
Plus if you don't rescue Minsc how could you ever get the best party member? Boo.
