There is actually one more mystery about Nether that I came up with recently. Where does oxygen in Nether come from? You need oxygen for breathing and fire also needs a lot of oxygen for burning, but there are no plants in Nether that could make it by photosynthesis, only mushrooms, and mushrooms don’t do photosynthesis.
I had the same question as well and the only form of oxygen production is through a method of sulfur dioxide being hit with a large amount of radiation. The experiment used a helium lamp to turn sulfur dioxide into oxygen and the only equivalent lamp in the nether is glowstone.
there are trees, brown mushrooms, red mushrooms, nether wart, crimson fungus, warped fungus, crimson roots, warped roots, and you can't forget the grass like plants on crimson nylium and stuff.

However maybe things like Nether wort & Crimson mushrooms are red & maybe use infrared light to create starch or something allowing life to exist in the nether. Maybe the life here however gains its energy the same way some life on earth does through geothermal methods which would make sense with all the lava & heat it'd give you. The oxygen though maybe it was brought in by the nether portals years ago or maybe the rocks aren't containing oxygen in much concentration.

i'mma bring minecraft legends into to this in that game the piglins have nether spreaders which crushes netherwart to release spores that convert overworld blocks to netherrack. the mercury and mysterious element comes from the spores and combines with dirt and stone to form netherrack
There is a really thick layer of void before the nether, so that is why the distance isn’t like 1 for 4 in caves but 1 for 1, the nether is so deep down that it is 1 for 8

I have a theory that the End might be between the Overworld and Nether since there's void between the two which End islands float in. So technically when you're in the End the Overworld is above you and the Nether is bellow you.

I originally thought the same thing about the achievement but it’s actually a reference from inception where one of the characters said we need to go deeper and that phrase wasn’t talking about actual depth. This was confirmed by Mojang devs but I still prefer the theory that the nethers under bedrock
you’re right because in creative if you break bedrock it’s the void. you die in the void but the top of the nether is just the overworld’s void so if you stack up enough you can get to the bedrock layer of the overworld but it’s not possible because nothing can be in the void
The Nether isn't actually the underworld, it's also not another planet, it's meant to be a different dimension even though everything points to it being under the overworld, so is the End
The End actually is implied to be far over the overworld; if you press F3 & look at the dimension names, instead of End, it says Sky. And if you lose items into the portal after defeating the dragon, it actually ends up hundreds or thousands of blocks in the sky in the overworld, above your original world spawn. It usually despawns before it falls down far enough to be caught. The dimension name in F3 menu for the Nether is Hell.
I think nether and over world are not joined as shown in the diagram in the video because below the bedrock in the over world there is void and the nether roof is pitch black too as if it is the floor of the void so it can be that between overworld and nether there is void.
Netherack is the flesh of "something" contaminated by all those elements. Which would explain the 2 mysterious elements that come out of it if it was from giant otherworldly organisms that also explains the bones in the nether and under ground

Just wanted to expand the theory a little more :)

Also the only reason why he assumed that it was another planet was because it couldn't have been inside the earth, because it was confirmed that it was a separate dimension.

I remember in 2015, i was playing minecraft on survival mode, in front of my house was a lake and i randomly destroyed a sand block and i found glowstone.
I would think glowstone is some type of radioactive glass. The sounds it makes matches and many types of radioactive glass glow and are mostly safe to handle.
When minecraft was old and when netherrack named Bloodstone it's because the netherrack texture had a bit of dark reds on it so that gave mojang the idea of naming it Bloodstone but after some time they renamed it netherrack and after some time they also decided to change the texture because it still look like red stone with blood.
in old versions, netherack looked a lot different, and i think it's actually human meat. this would be acurate to bloodstone and the sound it makes, as well as soul sand, which is trapped souls.
I also think that it would make sense if very little iron was found in netherrack. It would explain its red color, and show how the piglins got iron, maybe theres a secret smelting recipe we can't access. It would also still make sense that netherrack is so soft, because only so little iron is in it. Like 4 netherrack blocks would only get one nugget?

Montrodite is found near hydrothermal vents. What's a hydrothermal vent in Minecraft? A magma block, which is also found in the Nether and has the same color and texture as Netherrack.
There was a classic theory that the old texture was actually flesh because of it's reddish tint and some pixels that looked just like an eye. This would go along with Soul Sand, which seems to basically be a bunch of souls captured and compressed into a block.
Devs confirmed that the nether is its' own dimension, even though the 8:1 block ratio and the achievement "we need to go deeper" both look like it points towards the idea that the nether is underneath the overworld

Blood stone is blaze powder because sometimes blazes (in Xbox anyway) used to drop glow stone so it is possible that blazes are made of the same stuff as glowstone. It would also explain the bright yellow colors.

Probably a void between them that is too deep to fall through without dying, that’s also explains the nether roof

Montrodite is found near hydrothermal vents. What's a hydrothermal vent in Minecraft? A magma block, which is also found in the Nether and has the same color and texture as Netherrack.
There was a classic theory that the old texture was actually flesh because of it's reddish tint and some pixels that looked just like an eye. This would go along with Soul Sand, which seems to basically be a bunch of souls captured and compressed into a block.

Devs confirmed that the nether is its' own dimension, even though the 8:1 block ratio and the achievement "we need to go deeper" both look like it points towards the idea that the nether is underneath the overworld
