My grey squirrel girl has taught me how to be a better human. I post videos of her and her siblings to show people how amazing these sweet rodents are. Ive been going thru a very tough divorce and my sweet gal keeps me company and does all she can to make me smile and laugh. Ive never been religious or into spiritual things but i thank God every day for bringing my baby to me to show me what unconditional love really is. She wakes me up in the morning and licks my face or nibbles my ears or nose if i dont wake up w her nudging
I have a baby eastern grey squirrel since the little gal was approximately 5 weeks old. She is ~11 weeks now and is growing fast. Such Incredible little creatures! 🐿️ 💕
I am raising a squirrel. He came up to me covered in ants, and a cat was after him. He is also missing one claw nail. I don't think it'll grow back. I love him unlike any other animal that I've ever met! ❤ Another fun fact is that Grey Squirrels gnaw on bones for calcium.
These squirrels are very smart animals. They and Blue Jays are the 2 most important animals that are credited for the oak forests in eastern North America. It's a common site to see a Red-tailed Hawk with one of these squirrels. I get such a kick out of watching 2 or more Eastern Gray Squirrels chasing each other around.
I live in western NY and in one of our 12 acre woods we have 3 black grey squirrels. 1% of grey squirrels are black/melanistic. So 3 within a few acres is kind of cool.
I feed the squirrels in my backyard everyday with peanuts, it’s funny they sit on my fence waiting every morning so I put a feeder on the fence and fill it with peanuts
Can you please provide a source for your information? We're using the Integrated Taxonomic Information System which states the scientific name is as we've described.
@AnimalFactFiles, the Sciurus genus is polyphyletic, it is now an exclusively Old World genus with now just two extant species: the Eurasian Red Squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) and the Calabrian Black Squirrel (Sciurus meridionalis), while other species have been relocated to other genera the japanese tree squirrel is now moved to the monotypic genus Nesosciurus, where its scientific name is now Nesosciurus lis, and many new world species are moved to other genera such as Alopecomys for fox squirrels and Hesperosciurus for grey squirrels, in addition to many other newly named genera which like Alopecomys (Fox Squirrels) and Hesperosciurus (Grey Squirrels) are now thought to be more closely related to other exclusively new world genera of tree squirrels (subfamily Sciurinae) such as Tamiasciurus, Sytheosciurus, and Microsciurus.

My parents, who live in Florida, have been at war with squirrels for a long time. They prefer 🐦.

One of the best things in the woods to eat.
The correct scientific name of the eastern grey squirrel is actually Hesperosciurus carolinensis.
