My oldest son is in his early 20's and he has type 1 diabetes. But thank God for this piece of article th-cam.com/users/postUgkxVYhghKWmrUgXARZ_ydZTvmmcrw5L0I5i At first he thought he had the flu and was lying down on the bed for three days until his sister took him to the hospital. They took his blood and it was 600. What I do not understand is how he could have gotten it, since no one in the family has it. But he is winning the battle now. This is good stuff.

I have been a Type 1 Diabetic for 60 years, on a Medtronic pump for 9 years and now on the Tandem t:slim X2 with control IQ, which is the reason my Endocrinologist wanted me to switch. The Medtronic system reservoir changing, filling, loading, and priming was far superior and so simple compared to the Tandem. I think the designers of the Tandem system should have looked at the Medtronic reservoir system and received input from diabetics using insulin pumps before settling on this archaic design. On top of that, I use less than 50 units in a 3 day period. To fill a Tandem reservoir to the minimum amounts required means I have to put in 6 days worth of insulin and change the cannula after 3 days. The waste of supplies and insulin is careless. On a positive note, the control IQ technology has decreased the number of my hypoglycemic events.

Just an observation, if you're using 50 units in 3 days, that's 16.8 units per day. At that rate, it would take you 2 months to use a bottle of insulin. Insulin is only good for 28 days after first opening. Seems to me that would make the "wasted" insulin a moot point, since you are using at a rate that will cause the insulin to expire before you use the bottle.

Only just got one of these pumps a few weeks ago, got it with the Dexcom g6 sensor and the control IQ chip. Absolute life changer. Control is so much better and im having to put a lot less effort into managing my diabetes thanks to the control IQ chip. Worst thing about it is filling it up for me as my old pump was so simple, but its a no brainer having a pump thats more difficult to fill but makes life so much better.

Had the Tandem pump for several years and I'm still kind of astounded why this process is so complicated. It takes me many times longer to change this than the pure hydraulic lever on older insulin pumps, and that time definitely adds up through the week. The pressure sensor is an absolute mess which landed me in the ER once as their helpline was no use and there was no published guide on how to fix issues with altitude/pressure.
I think it's more complicated than it's worth. You waste 15-20 units every time you need to change cartridge even for a top up.

Not gonna lie. I'm on Medtronic and hated the sensor so much I was absolutely going to switch to Tandem so I could use the Dexcom. However, I kept putting off the switch mostly because i didn't want to deal with this annoying Tslim fill procedure compared to the Medtronic. But I was still going to suffer through it... until Medtronic just released their 780G with Guardian 4. Auto correction bulus, lower target range, no calibrations, AND importantly a much better refill method! So I decided to go with Medtronic and just ordered the 780G.

I was a medtronic pump user for several years before switching over. This system is far better, however I very much agree with the general comments here. You guys already use the same MIO type cannula inserts, but the cartridge filling is quite annoying. If your company could change the filling of the cartridge to be less cumbersome it would be even better. My suggestion would be to fill the cartridge from the hosing instead of a tiny hole on the side. The Dexcom is great piece of technology to go along with your pump.

Now pumping on the X2 + Control IQ. The reservoir refill actually wasn't as bad as I thought. It is definitely a wasteful process, so I can see how someone who pays out of pocket for Insulin would be pissed to waste ~70u per fill where Medtronic is like 15u max. Medtronic exchange takes about 3-5 min where this is probably 10-15min. On the positive side the AutoSoft XC injection was actually less pain than Medtronic, it's also a slightly smaller footprint on your body. Control IQ already gave me an auto-bolus while typing this comment to bring my 165 bg down automatically. So overall it is probably worth the extra effort of their cartridge design if it brings 3 days of high tech control.

These are a few of my biggest concerns when it comes to switching to tandem, some of which are just expected quality of life things that I don't understand why design would drift away from or stay with:
    1. lack of view on reservoir
    2. complicated load process that does not allow for corner cutting or time saving (time may be money but time is also my life, the less time i have to be diabetic the better)...for instance, with minimed's reservoir system I can either use the priming feature the pump has built in to push insulin through the tubing once the reservoir is connected to the pump OR i can save time by after drawing insulin from a vial into the reservoir with the plunger I can leave said plunger in and connect the tubing and manually push insulin through the tubing. That saves me about 2mins of time that i dont have to think about diabetes. Consider this type of design in your pumps.
    3. luer lock is old, why even go with this design when there are better designs out there?
    4. replaceable batteries. Again, time is my life. I don't want to be connected to charge something. Either incorporate the old school method of disposable batteries OR add a swappable rechargeable battery to your systems. I don't want to slowly watch my pump battery life go down and be told "we're gonna wait until its under 3 days per charge". That's crazy.
I would love to give further feedback on quality of life stuff if you'd have it from during the design of your next system. I run r/type1diabetes on reddit and write/direct film for a living so time saved is very important to me so I can continue to do my job and help others to the best of my abilities.

There's an important step missing in the video. At the end of the "Fill Tubing" process, and at the end of the "Fill Cannula" process (see the video at exactly 5:26 in), you are presented with a "Back Arrow" option at the top left of the screen, and a Green "Check" icon on the right-hand side of the screen. If you hit the logical Green "Check" option, the loading process starts over and you are forced to repeat the "Fill Tubing" process, losing at least 10 or so units. Instead of the Green "Check" when done, you must select the "Back Arrow." Only then are you presented with the "Resume Insulin Now Option." I'd recommend that Tandem refresh the UI to make that more clear for users. Other than that small nit, it's been a thoroughly great experience switching from Medtronic to Tandem. If I'm doing this wrong, or if anyone has other recommendations, I'm all ears.

If it was brand new, I'd have probably drawn the insulin out again and put it in the new cartridge. You're not supposed to do that for a cartridge that has been used, but if you notice it during the filling and instantly draw it out again: why not... No way the insulin will have depleted at that point.

A cartridge leaking from ANYWHERE is not working right.

      @@BlazerStoner420 Great solution!
I'm not a big fan of the "old insulin deteriorates" response,
'cuz that would mean my cartridge insulin at day 3/69 hours is less effective than at day 0/02 hours.
If so, there would need to be a dosage algorithm to compensate for this so-called "deterioration."
Besides, the insulin in the cartridge can be close to body temp for several hours; I sleep with the pump against my body sometimes,
and have experienced decreased efficacy at day 3...

@@nu8150 Then you have never been in hot weather. The insulin in my cartridge after 1 day in 95 degree weather was less effictive day by day. On the third day I was having to give 1.4 times more insulin then I would normaly give due to how the hot weather degraded the insulin. I live in Washington state and it is usally between 65 to 78 degrees throughout the summer for work I had to go to Arizona for hot day testing on the 747-8 and the temp was 110 degrees my insulin did not last 8 hours in that weather. So it all just depends on the weather you are in for me I filled my cartidge with only 100 units so that I would not waste the other 200 units at the end of the day.

I seriously don't understand why this needs to be so complicated. "The needle should go halfway in and stop, but sometimes will go all the way in"? Why?that means something is inconsistsnt. Having to insert the needle twice, once for air removal and once for filling seems to weakin the rubber seal sometimes, causing leaks. This process is archaic and is a major downside for this insulin pump. I feel like the quality in the cartridges has gone downhill lately as well. Ive had cartridge bags pop from filling with less than 300 units. Frustrated and seriously interrsted in switching to a different brand pump next.

When I proceed to the; fill needle with insulin step, no insulin ever leaves the pump. Have tried three different needles and reservoirs. Tried calling support and they couldn't help. • @tandemdiabetes
      @tandemdiabetes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks for asking. No. Tandem has not done testing on the biocompatibility and stability of insulin stored in the cartridge
for extended periods of time, or of insulin refrigerated in the cartridge. In addition, insulin has dissolved
gasses and when cold insulin is warmed, the gas will come out of solution and form bubbles. So, putting
a pre-filled cartridge of refrigerated insulin in the pump may result in bubbles in the system.

This pump works well, but at almost 70 years old, I have a tremulously difficult time filling the cartridge. Unless that needle is exactly in the center, it WILL NOT fill. No matter how much pressure I put on it, almost breaking the syringe, it is stuck. After a recent kidney transplant, I shake more than ever. Sometimes it takes 8 tries to get the needle to insert properly. Can't they make the rubber piece a little larger or perhaps not have the really thick rubber so wide around the edges? I hope the x3 will be better, but I doubt it.

Hi Chris. Thank you for your question. Our app displays the user interface of our t:slim X2 pump with Basal-IQ and with the Dexcom G6 CGM integration. The video above does not display this, as we do not have Health Canada approval for our Tandem Device Updater, which allows for the use of our Basal-IQ software update.
Also, the load process screen looks this way because this process requires components specific to pump hardware that are not possible to represent in
      an app format.
As a reminder, this application is for demonstration purposes only and should not be used for therapy decisions. It is intended to illustrate the user interface on a Tandem Diabetes Care™ insulin pump. This application is provided on an "as-is" basis, without any warranty, and is not identical to the functionality of the pump. It should not be relied upon for instruction on use of the pump and is not a substitute for the user guide or training by a certified pump trainer.

Hi Andrey. Like all pump reservoirs on the market, ours are labeled for single use only for the safety of the user.
