It isn’t just a problem that affects boys. Girls get told that we are dramatic, anxious, or overly sensitive. Doctors and nurses need to stop minimizing patients’ pain. I got told by a nurse that I had a low pain tolerance after I had surgery on my colon. Doubt she has ever been split like a baked potato and lost part of her colon but apparently it shouldn’t hurt.

The surgeon should be required to take a course on bedside manner. At least.

Oh my god. Im just imagining an adult, a stranger, whom im supposed to trust my child with, saying this to my son AFTER MAJOR SURGERY! My blood is boiling. Wow.

Practitioners who disregard, dismiss or diminish a patient's post surgery pain are 100% in the WRONG. If this happens to you please consider saying something to the Medical Director or Practice Manager because if you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem.
