great work under difficult circumstances. here in australia a load would not be allowed to travel. the trailer for this type of load would need gates all around the load
Ok, Josh, BIG kudos on this one fixing something epically stupid in VERY dangerous conditions. I'm going to give law enforcement a "fail" for not giving you a "safe" lane to work in, traffic is not that heavy. I'm going to give whoever loaded that an *EPIC* fail for doing it completely wrong!! A load of PVC pipe is 2 things. Plastic and air. Plastic goes on the bottom, air on top. ie, small pipe=less air, big pipe=more air. Therefore, little pipe on the bottom, big pipe on top. The fact that it's not even centered, *EPIC* fail. Again, job VERY well done!! You got it safe for them to move it and fix it. It's on them after that. P
11:02 Dude, I was scared just watching. When you pulled up, I was like, how is he going to fix this one? Risk wise, more dangerous than the truck that drove over the bridge because this time the highway was still open and way more people could have been killed or injured. Awesome work and vid as always. Hope you are having a great day !
Look carefully because to me that is horribly loaded. The pipe on the back half of the trailer that shifted is in two vertical stacks. Look at the end shot at 29:09 and a left side shot at 28:40. Ignoring the small pipe on the top, the stack on the left is 6 pipes high and 3 wide in 3 groups of 2 high and 3 wide with wooden cribbing, while the stack on the right is 4 pipes high and 3 wide with 2 groups of 2 high and 3 wide with only a metal strap containing them. Also the two stacks are of unequal height with the stack on the left a few inches taller than the one on the right. Any strap passed through has to go up or down at the point between the two stacks, resulting in it lifting up and out on one of the pieces of pipe. Securing this so it won't shift without reloading will require more than just an extra belly strap 1/3 of the way up. Maybe adding extra cribbing on the right side so straps could go across horizontally, along with some diagonal strapping on the end would fully secure it. Also at the start, small pipe on the top right was obviously damaged by the strapping after the shift. It was crushed to the point of being deformed to the failure point. However, I suspect it was strapped most of that way from the start as the straps are almost midway between the cribbing.
This driver was very lucky, he should be taken aside and shown how to strap pipe and slick loads. It’s a wonder the highway cops didn’t pull him over for a dangerous load. Well done Pepe job well done.
California doesn’t enforce slow down move over. Most of the time it’s bumper to bumper anyway and there is no place to go. I first learned about the law from a Arizona State trooper who pulled me over on I-40 for not moving over. I told him I had never heard of the law and his response was something to the effect that nobody in California has. Gave me a warning and sent me in my way.
@@flyerbob124 no states do. It's so rare, it's a nation wide problem and I wish people would just have the common courtesy to at least be alert if not slowing down or moving over
@@PepesTowingService Washington State Patrol state DOES enforce it, but ONLY if you don't move over, or slow down for one of their cruisers. Rarely do they enforce it for other emergency vehicles.
Looks like no one got the move over memo. If people knew how to tie down their loads, this sort of thing wouldn't happen. Looks like the CHP has better things to do. Another job well done. Life is a learning experience. Stay safe out there.
Obviously the re-rigging did wonders. But I wonder, at about the 21:00 mark on the video if the passenger side strap could have been loosened and a piece of timber blocking, about 4 feet long could have been placed vertically between the strap and the middle two rows of pipe. Just that extra 4 to 6 inches of bend in the strap might have been enough to slide those middle two rows of pipes over.
Always feel uneasy driving next to a truck carrying pipes. Saw the Hulk on 7/16 responding to a overturn truck on the N I-110 to the E I-10 on the same spot when you removed the two transformers. Hope you documented the incident.
You've got to wonder about who the clowns are that first load the trucks and then tie-down the load.....to me that load was stacked back to front those small pipes should have been on the bottom and made into a stable base for the bigger pipes. Another great job Josh, another curly one for you and Hulk to fix.

Check your settings now, the video is full HD. And that's funny because it's true. A hill side recovery doesn't have the live traffic factor and while dangerous, is in a controlled environment.
Those small pipes should have been on the bottom because they are denser (heavier). AND I would have had 8 straps on each half of the trailer, with 4 of them diagonal across the corners. In the UK and Europe most loads are diagonal corners. Same with low loaders (lowboys) always diagonally chained. Keep up the content and try to stay safe
Unfortunately small pipe on the bottom wouldn't work because the crates of large pipe are a fair amount WIDER than those of the small pipe. (I work at a place that makes the stuff.) That size mix is practically a no win scenario for secure loading because 2 bundles of 10 inch (the left rear) is significantly taller than 2 bundles of 12 inch (the right rear) and the 12 inch is wide enough that you can't put two side by side without making a wide load so no way to even it out.
@@richardreid6377 OK, I understand, they have to be loaded that way. Diagonal strapping would have helped immensely. I have never seen diagonal strapping, or very few chains (except on track vehicles) in the States on TH-cam. Is it illegal or just not done?

There is a good reason for "Slow Down Move Over". Those drivers could care less about your life or those of anyone else for that matter. Missouri and Florida have it in place with Double the Fines in place for those who don't want to obey that law. Could it be something that you are needing in California, to save the lives of you and law enforcement?

I would have started with 2×6 about 16 feet long under the orange straps you got rigged up to create a wall for the pipes. Also the driver should have had 2×4's under at least 4 straps on the sides to keep it from shifting! Just sayin.
Don't know any rotator that has 16' long pieces of wood in their truck. Could have done this job 100 different ways. Mine worked fine, as your method would have as well
Great job Josh! That round slick stuff is hard to do any thing with. I cringe every time I pass a load of PVC pipe half is not tied down very good. I guess there was a bright side you were in the shade. You are living dangerous working on the road side with today's idiot drivers.
Great job recovering that load on the trailer. I see a gold tractor is pulling this loaded trailer.............let me guess this was a C.R.S.T. truck driver. I was there for 6 moths while I earned & re-payed my CDL schooling . Upon completion of my contract, I left to go work at a company that had better safety standards. CRST will take ANYBODY with a pulse & place them behind the wheel of a truck! They DON'T even care if the person is competent with the task at hand, just as long as they can make a truck move down the highway! I know C.R.S.T. use to have a yard in that was on the boarder of Ontario & L.A.. 23 years ago was when I worked at that company. After almost being run off the highways by our own company trucks more times than I can remember, I had enough with them. Interstate Distribution Company of Tacoma Washington was my next home. Stayed there a lil over a year, before I got a gig as a local driver with a different company.
Very poorly loaded truck. Thin wood members that are broken do no good to help secure that load, plus the unbalanced small pipe loaded off to one side on the top. Going to have to have more watchers watching these poorly loaded trucks.. much to my chagrin as don't like to see more control. But necessary when these loose canons run around with poorly secured loads such as this one.
That's the difference between a "Driver" and a "Steering Wheel Holder"! Ironically, when hauling smaller (or mixed sizes) PVC pipe, tighter straps is NOT always the better way! They have to be tight, but not super strongman tight. Also, most of this guys winches were on the passenger side - they HAVE to be staggered side to side, or the result is just exactly what happened.
You should get an inflatable balloon of a wrecked car and put it behind your truck. That will get everyone slowed down to 3 MPH so they can rubberneck the accident
... too cocky? "I don't want to be too cocky?" CHIPS should've closed freeway. Too dangerous by far. Imagine, if yo will, the cars/pantechs/ trucks flying past (70mph), to be met by a rolling sea of plastic pipes? Bad decision, Pepe my dear. "The Gambler" in me says, ya, sure, I would've had my adrenaline 'boost' for the day. But Safety 1st [in me] that day would've crapped out! Lady Luck was on your side, that day. Lucky. [Phew!] You were lucky. Not the best choice, bra.
You're insane if you think CHP would have shut down the entire freeway for this. The safety line on the driver side of the truck would have prevented them from falling into the freeway. They're wrapped in layers as well, yes this job is innately risky but you have to have the confidence and equipment to get it done. CHP wouldn't have me as a vendor if I had to shut down the freeway every time I did a job. Literally no tow company does that.

You need a mic. Great videos. Thanks.
I hope you have a seperate fee for rigging loads in the field!
Nope, everything is one hourly rate regardless
@@PepesTowingService Well, you earned it on that job. Good luck to you.
That trailer was loaded wrong from the get go
There is a good reason for "Slow Down Move Over". Those drivers could care less about your life or those of anyone else for that matter. Missouri and Florida have it in place with Double the Fines in place for those who don't want to obey that law. Could it be something that you are needing in California, to save the lives of you and law enforcement?
i dont think, this is cargo is secured enough
Cant you request State Police assistance?
Love the videos but getting tired of the ads breaking in.
Thanks, but I've never had ads during the videos. By default they are only before the video and easy to skip. Personally I use TH-cam Red and never have to deal with ads.
@@keithnichols7926 That's how I do it too.
That's utube doing that. The more popular you are the more you get monetized.
Oh Shift Man
I would have started with 2×6 about 16 feet long under the orange straps you got rigged up to create a wall for the pipes. Also the driver should have had 2×4's under at least 4 straps on the sides to keep it from shifting! Just sayin.
Don't know any rotator that has 16' long pieces of wood in their truck. Could have done this job 100 different ways. Mine worked fine, as your method would have as well
Makes sense. Obviously you made it work like a boss always impressed with your work man!
Terrible way to load pipe. I don't know how they loaded or expected to unload. I feel bad for the guy that ordered it.
Don't truckdrivers learn how to secure a load in US ?? In Belgium and Germany the drivers would lose his license
bad loading to start with
Drivers wife or boss nagging the heck out of him on the phone.
Def the boss lol
Best suggestion so far 😂😂😂😂😂
