@@terminal_011 Yes, indeed. She explained to me that she had done a lot of research about singing, in various cultures, that she trained a lot by herself, and that she had "freed her voice". Nonetheless, there is a big gap between reading or watching people sing and being able to do it yourself. The lady is a genius.

She isn't singing in French, it is a made up language by the band, which is designed to convey emotion. Igorrr is quite the musical trip and can vary quite a lot. It was my favourite rabbit hole discovery during the pandemic. For a more metal sounding song 'Camel Dancefloor' (official music video) would be a good second song to listen to.

    Igorrr is mesmerizing, always!
The male vocalist that ran with them at that time is also a wizard. If you want to be amazed by him, I recommend their track called "Grosse Barbe".
Don't bother looking for lyrics or translations. They perform in their own made up language, with the specific purpose of portraying all the emotion through the vocalization. This evidently makes the music so much more powerful...
That aside, the primary composer of the band, Gautier Serre, has talked about him having synesthesia, which he believes to be a big contributor to his eclectic choices of musical styles he mixes together.
Note for those seeking to see Igorrr live: I believe both vocalists have left the band due to complications during the corona crisis, which prohibited at least one of them of going on tour with the band. The new vocalists aren't bad, but imho they don't measure up to their predecessors. One consequence is that the song I suggested to listen and maybe react to (you want to, I promise) is no longer performed live...

I felt the same about Aphrodite's arrival, being a die-hard Laure supporter (ignoring the fact that it was revealed that she is impossible to work with or to have her commitment at all to anything). The mistake I made was that I compared the 2 vocalists, which I should not have done. They have completely different vocal signatures and abilities. Laure was perfect for the new and fresh, loud, charismatic tones and counter screams that somehow still sounded charismatic. She let her voice play around the song's crescendo's, and challenges were well handled as such. Aphrodite arrived fully competent but had to mold her vocals to someone else's prize song, which is not that simple or straightforward. But having seen Aphrodite perform new songs and plying her own style and vocal character to that, I admit that she is actually an amazing fit and starting to think that her impressively wide range and tonal control might actually make for a more colourful and rewarding project, being Igorrr, than what they have achieved before (ignoring the newly discovered genre when they debuted, which will never be beaten). Also, note that one of the concerts has an electrical cut out where her mic stopped working, and by all accounts received, she could deliver her voice clearly and impressively with little effort. Give it a fair and proper chance to not compare but instead see it for what it is. Her range is incredible, and she counters it more dramatically. The notes and layers carry more weight by range than what they had before, and the songs end up more interesting and complicatedly engaging for a longer audience interest. Even her counterpart, JB with his raspier voice than Laurent's trademark metallic growl and unique twisting of notes, has geniune potential to improve the bands sound as he has more established undertones that are better delivered and clearer in tone balance and control. I think they have improved possibilties for Igorrr. They should continue to add their uniqueness to more songs. PS: I understand from recent information received that Aphrodite is still their lead singer, however currently only on tour, so I'm not sure what Gauthier has planned.

i love seeing people watch igorrr, especially this song for the first time! Laure is such an amazing vocalist and she's delivered amazingly across all of Igorrr and their side projects, including Corpo Mente and Ricinn. Sadly she and another band member parted ways with igorrr 1-2 years ago. Imo none of the replacements have been able to capture her unique and amazing range of styles and emotions so far.
while they are a french band, the language they use is usually made up (with few exceptions) and entirely based on emotion and sound which adds to their unique feeling imo. Everybody can interpret whatever they want into the song.
i would absolutely love to hear more from either of their projects.

@@lepatcite iirc Laurent left because of COVID restrictions for their tour and Laure had creative differences and wanted to focus on other things.
They've had several other singers in the meantime and from all the making ofs I've seen I think Gautier (the founder aka igorrr) is kind of a control freak and perfectionist which is part of the reason why their music is amazing but it can also be super hard on the team

I think they have improved possibilties for Igorrr. They should continue to add their uniqueness to more songs. and yes, I stand by Gauthier, who, similarly to Ghost, writes everything, designs and decides what he wants, and hires the band to create his ideas. I think his control freak style is needed to realise the product. he gives them all a lot of freedom and creative space as they write their own styles and music parts. He just designs the foundations and scope for the projects. Watch their "making of" videos and some of their other interviews. It's not as it appears with Gauthier bossing everyone. I know he was that way as Laure was challenging and apparently pushing the boundaries by allowing less than the minimum required involvement of herself. He was candid about that fact long before he fired Laure. That's why a lot of the potential shows and tours could not happen or were sudden and quickly over. so control is needed with some. PS: I understand from recent information received that Aphrodite is still their lead singer, however currently only on tour, so I'm not sure what Gauthier has planned.

Yes Igorrr. These guys transcend genre. Some sings are quite metal, but every song is what it needs to be. And every song is it's own surprise, predictable this journey is not.
I think you hit the nail on the head, you just got to let it wash over you and enjoy it. Some people/reactors really try and stick it into a box and classify it and miss the mark completely. The shot of the audience all having different emotions and reactions is what Igorrr is all about to me.
Gutted that Laure is not with the band anymore as the fit was incredible. But looking forward to seeing what their newest singer is capable of.

I heard of them before, but never heard them. This sounds like breakcore to me (the electronic beats) and while they are said to have some metal influences from what I hear and what I can see online, I would not catalogue this as metal but as breakcore. It's not necessarily something I listen to a lot any more, but I can still enjoy it when I set my mind to it. It reminds me a bit of Venetian Snares "Rossz Csillag Allat Született" album (but with live vocals), which I have listened to (and own)
Also, I have been to that festival a couple of times back in the day (I think the last year I went was in 2007 or 2008, so years before this). I have no idea how big it is now (there were about 100000 people the couple of years I went) and how much it has changed over the years, but knowing what state plenty of people were during that festival, it's possible the woman in the front might not have been the most sober person and she probably was in her own world.
Probably my favourite festival I have been to though because of the variety of genres and styles of music + just the fact that there is room for lesser known bands (at least back then, not sure about now).

I have read a bit about them since yesterday and it seems that they do tend to use some metal influences in their music. As far as the baroque-core name goes, I have a feeling it is something that only gets used for Igorrr because they seemingly had an EP called "baroquecore" in 2010. Nothing you can do about that, it's normal that you just go with what the requester tells you.
I am honestly glad I heard them after hearing about them for a while now. I enjoyed your reaction, even with how difficult it must have been to get something like this thrown at you, and it seems like the fans of Igorrr did as well so that's all that matters.

That's the impression I got when I was reading about them, a lot of genre-bending and switching. But this track in particular reminds me a lot of that classical music inspired Venetian Snares album (Rossz Csillag Allat Született) that I know very well. Breakcore is not a genre I really dove into, so I am not super familiar with a lot of artists. I do know Aphex Twin and Squarepusher pretty good and own most of their albums, but I wouldn't catalog them necessarily as breakcore even though some of their tracks come very close.
I do recommend that Venetian Snares album if you like this track and aren't familiar, it honestly wouldn't surprise me if it inspired Igorrr to mix classical music with breakcore. Especially since Igorrr seems to have formed in 2005, which is when that album released. It's been a long time since I heard it but I loved that album back in the day, I should give it an other spin.

I think she's on drug... Might be the best experience though being high while listening to Igorrr concert live

Beautiful singing, but this wannabe artsy, disharmonic electrosound ruins it all.
I like electro and classical, but not in a horrible mix like that.
    But just my opinion!

@@remu4533 glad to see u are open-minded to new music, that says a lot about you :) discovering new paths is a great mindset to have in life. And who knows, maybe you will enjoy some of Igorrr songs, but i can tell u they are often strange, uncomfortable and deeply chaotic, but thats what he likes to do in his music :) have a great day

I don't really have any issue with people disliking the sound, but calling it wannabe is a bit much. There's real skill and effort put into making it and I think it also achieves exactly the feel that it's going for. "Wannabe" really is only stuff that is trying solely to be unique without any vision for what it actually wants to be.
