  • Hey everyone, this is a fairly lengthy video, but hopefully it acts as a good guide to sew the same Christmas stocking...lined stocking with a cuff with no raw edges showing.
    I'm sure there are a bunch of different ways to accomplish this, but I found this method was the easiest way for me.
    PS - sorry for how bright the video is, I clearly haven't mastered my camera's settings yet!

    I am SO thankful I came across this video. I’ve been stuck trying to make stockings for two days because I couldn’t figure out how to finish them without raw edges or a visible topstitch. This was incredibly clear and helpful! You’re amazing for sharing! THANK YOU

    I loved your video 💜 I've sewn ALOT in my life, however it's been about 6-7 yrs since I had a working machine. Plus I got old, 65 yrs old to be exact. I needed this refresher, it was perfect. You did a wonderful job, thank you for making this video, you're a great seamstress. 💜🧚💜

    So, I've watched a billion different diys on stockings and they all fail at the part where you do the cuff...THIS is by far, the best tutorial I have ever watched on how to do the cuff part. THANK YOU! I know this was a million years ago and you may have been a beginner back when you made this, but it's a great tutorial! Thank you!

    I know you say you’re a beginner in this video but I am not. I have been sewing a long time. But I tell you what this helped me so so much! I found all the other tutorials confusing, too long or the end product didn’t look as nice as your way. I love your method and thanks for sharing!! You helped when an old pro and I’m very appreciative!!

    I had used your video several years ago to make Christmas stockings. This year I had to make a new one for the newest addition to the family! I have now bookmarked your video in case we have more additions! Such a good tutorial to come up with what looks like a professionally sewn looking product!

    I have to tell you that you were a lifesaver. My mom was a great seamstress. She made our clothes , bathing suits, underwear . She made my wedding dress ( which was gorgeous) My point in all this is she also made everyone in the family beautiful Christmas stockings ( kids , adults & spouses) 25 of them . My mom now has Alzheimer’s and we needed stockings for some of our newest members of the family. I never sewed much . I could hem and mend . I had a hard time understanding the patterns . So I studied our stockings & thought I would TH-cam lined stocking with cuff . I quilted them like mom did , I also added the toe like mom did . I have used your video multiple times . I literally cried when I finished my first stocking. I wished my mom could share my excitement. You did a great job on this video . Easy to understand and see . Thank you 😊

    I do mine almost the exact same way. However the cuff part, the way you do it seems like an extra step.... having to close that hole back up. I make my outside piece then the inside liner, the cuff and loop. Then I stuff the liner into the main part, hold my loop piece upside down (so that all of the raw edges align) then place my cuff inside of all of that, also upside down where the raw edges align. See around in a circle and then pull the cuff out of the inside of the stocking and fold over. Same exact outcome, no raw edges, just personally seems easier. I amd not by any means trying to bash your way or method, just wanted to share since ya mentioned “beginner sewer” lol! I love your stockings! They’re absolutely gorgeous!!

    Omg! If you only knew how helpful this was! I am a beginner sewer but coming from a family that no one one sews, they think it is easy and I can do anything. So not true! My sister needs 8 stockings!! I want to do the girls ones in a lace overlay. I'm going to try your way tonight with some scrap cotton I have. Thank you and blessings to the family.

    Great video! A friend asked me to make her a couple of stockings. I haven't sewn in about 30 years! I figured, how hard can it be? I actually made a couple of stockings that looked fine but realized that there had to be a better way to attach the 3 together. So after the fact I started looking for information on hot to do this. I totally agree with you... Your video is SOOOO much easier to understand. Great job and well done! Thank you!

    I've been sewing for years, you did a nice job, I'm doing burlap stockings, and I love the idea of leaving the bottom of the lining open where you can turn it. Keep sewing, it's an awesome craft. I've been sewing since my mom taught me in the summer after 2nd grade, I'm about to be 57. I have enjoyed learning more things everytime I work on something. Happy Sewing ~ Cindy

    THANK YOU! I had my stocking parts ready but was stumped on how to sew the cuff. I was just copying one that someone else made sans pattern and directions and after a very confusing phone call to my mother I googled and found your video. I watched it about 6 times to make sure I got the cuff and lining part right but it turned out perfectly... Smart move on using ribbon as your loop the longest part of my process was turning that tiny tube right side out. I'd say I've done a few more sewing projects than you but almost all my education was on youtube. Internet for the win! Thanks again!!!

    You know, this is the very first sewing video I have ever seen without one scene of a sewing machine, sewing in it. But, it totally wasn't necessary. I love your video. It touched on everything you needed to know in a fashion that was clear and very easy to understand. I suspect you have a knack for explaining what you are trying to convey. You did a great job and nobody would have guessed that it was your second video. Thanks for taking the time to show your way of creating a Christmas stocking. My daughter has asked me to make her four stockings for her family so I had better get busy. I hope mine turn out half as good as yours. Thanks, again and Merry Christmas!

I lost the instructions, so I was really confused! I'm drawing a pattern for my lining right now. Do you know if the lining is a little bit smaller and/or shorter than the stocking pattern or if they are supposed to be the exact same size? Thanks!

    • @DoItLikeDoli
      @DoItLikeDoli  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Laura Davis The lining is the same size as the outer layer, it bunches just a wee bit at the toes on the inside so you could probably make the lining a tad smaller...but it's on the inside so you won't see any of the bunching anyways.

    Ok so I did everything like you said and stuffed my main stocking inside the lining which was wrong sides out like you said. Sewed it all around and then pulled everything through and when I stuffed the lining inside the foot part was on the wrong side. So is that what happened with yours? I mean there's literally no way I could have messed that part up since I stuffed it inside like you did. If this is the case you should have mentioned it would be backwards.
