I was thinking about this while making this video. In the era of binge viewing cliffhangers are written for just about every episode! Kids today will never know what it was like to wait all summer long for the resolution.
It turned into a reason to make sure you come back next week instead of just writing a good story that we want to watch every week no matter how it ends. Some of the best episodes of SG1 was where they finished up a plan or situation on another planet and there was nothing to do except walk back to the gate and go home...with a smile as they walked away.

A frenemy maybe however Teal'c did convince Gerak to assist in helping finding a cure for the Ori plague. He sacrificed his life to save the people in the SGC
No love for Anubis here? He had multiple good cliffhangers. His Stargate laser attack on earth (Redemption), the probing of Jonas' mind (Fallen/Homecoming), the army of kull warriors (Evolution) and the reveal from Ba'al that Anubis is back (Reckoning) - can't believe none of these made it into the list. :(
Managed to cheat his way to ASCENSION, through his own intelligence, and left to run amok in the galaxy just to punish Oma Desala. Truly a mysterious villain. Definitely my favorite in stargate.
That Battle at the Supergate was really amazing. The writers managed to build up a level of threat similar to what the Borg had in their first couple appearances on TNG: basically unstoppable.

I haven't done much research on it (ie: googling), but I don't think it was particularly well received by longtime fans. Because I think I heard that it breaks canon because they open the gate in that show (I'm sure there will be plenty of people correcting me if I'm wrong. Guys, I only ask that you don't all tell me the same thing with a slight variance on diction)
@@NinjaFlibble That's what I read. Also, the gate in Origins is the same as in the movie that spawned the franchise with only 32 symbols. I think they were trying to copy Discovery as well with the darker overtone.
There but for the Grace of God was one of my favourite episodes. The Earth about to be conquered by the Goua'ld. We get the relationship(allbeit briefly), we wanted Sam and Jack engaged, because in this reality, Sam isn't in the military. My only beef, is in the following episode, when Daniel finds that the rest of the team don't really believe his story of the mirror. I just found this hard to accept, all of the experiences the team had, on Earth as well as other planets, and they found this hard to believe, especially Sam.
Would love to see the same for Atlantis! For me, the best would be The Return, First Strike and The Kindred (more of a plot twist than a cliffhanger with a big payoff, but it's just before the fade to black).
The final cliff hanger there, season 9 final, Yes, best cliff hanger ever. Which actually pulled a double punch when you watched the final of Atlantis immediately afterwards in air order to find that not only are the Ori here in our galaxy, but the Wraith are coming too.
Hey I just wanted to ask about an episode I loved to watch but it was years ago and I dont remember how it was called. Samantha from an alternate universe came through one of those mirrors where jack O’Neil was killed. And the sg1 then went there and saved them by calling the Asgard there. Anyone know how it was called? Thanks
My favorite cliffhanger is at the end of the "200th" episode. I never knew what the party was for!! I mean it could have been Cam's 200th trip through the gate. It could have been Jack revealing to Cam that he was his father from the "1969" episode. It could have been the reason file 30185 was sworn to secrecy. So many possibilities for cake!! And i never knew what it was for. :))

Agreed. However Atlantis as a series was a cliffhanger to its self and needed a 6th series or closing movie just to clear up everything. Maybe just maybe with Amazon buying mgm well get it picked back up. Also a continuation of sgu would be amazing too. I cannot wait for for the fifth installment of Stargate to start filming let alone be released.

A1x20 Siege, part 2 - the music, the desperation, the unwinable siege against the Wraith and almost all characters were left in jeopardy 2. A3x20 First Strike - desperate situation of the Atlantis as the city was floating in space while the leader had been badly hurt 3. A5x11 First Contact - when the gate exploded within the gateroom 4. A1x11 The Storm - it was raining and raining and raining while the camera moved away from Atlantis 5. A3x11 The Return, part 1 - how the team escaped from the SGC then they decided to fly back to Atlantis 6. A4x20 The Last Man - how the facility collapsed on them, but the composition and the framerate of the vfx shot was a bit awkward and there was the A2x10 The Lost Boys, A1x19 Siege, part 1, A4x18 The Kindred, part 1 too. Rising was also aired together as the second half started somewhere with the Wraith dart. So it is a bit hard to make a top10 list, but a top 5 could be fun.

I don't remember the end of Reckoning Part 1 (I'm sure I remember the scene, but don't remember exactly which scene it was) but I'm sure it was pretty good (but maybe not top 10 good), however the end of Reckoning Part 2, where they won, but Daniel is left dying on a destroyed ship is probably one of my favorites.

The ending of Exodus has always been a favourite of mine. The plan to blow up a sun, the unforeseen warp through hyperspace, and Apophis' ship looming over SG-1... It was a fantastic end to the season! But gawd! What a painful wait until season 5! Also, YES! I'd love videos like this for Atlantis and Universe!
I loved the Exodus plotline but I always thought it wouldn't have been much more difficult or expensive to make their unwanted trip to another galaxy be longer and more traumatic/dramatic/damaging to the ships. It just seemed like 'Oh boom, here we are in another galaxy' as if they'd met Q. And I'd like to have seen more of the unknown ships they met while they were there. But I guess they had their reasons.
In my opinion it is not a true cliff hanger unless it is the last episode of the season. 2 part episodes during the same season are just 2 part episodes, and you only need to wait 1 week to see episode 2.
How about a list of some of the most disappointing episodes from SG-1? One of the most disappointing for me was the series finale, Unending. I would have hoped for a better ending to a series that ran for ten seasons.

There are plenty of memorable moments. My favorites are : 1. 9x22 - when all hope seems to be lost at the arrival of the Ori fleet 2. 3x22 - when one of the Replicator survives 3. 4x22 - when Apophis managed to follow them 4. 2x22 - when Hathor holds up the Goa'uld 5. 1x21 - when the two Ha'tak ships reached our solar system Two (or three) parters were always special as they had time to tell us a bigger, more complex story. The most outstandings are the Lost City, Moebius, Avalon (with Origin), the Reckoning (with Threads) and the Quest. The Lost City should have been released as a DVD movie with an upgraded/converted picture resolution. Anyway your list is very close to mine. Thanks for the video, Darren!
The entire series was and IS the biggest cliffhanger. I mean, the way SGU ended was disgusting. Not in the way it ended but the fact that it ended. If I may be so bold....I think the Stargate Universe has so much more potential than a Star Wars Universe for example.
Thank the Ori for Netflix, and them releasing all Episodes in one go of their TV shows. I could never stand cliffhangers as a kid, and I can't stand them now. They don't leave me wanting me, they just leave me annoyed.
Surely the biggest cliff hanger ever was the Carter / O'neal will they won't they? Really, not alternate universe. But she did look great with long hair....
I really hated almost everything about the Ori story arc. I'm not really a fan of "precursor" civilizations in general because they're impossible, and sci-fi should have at least a shred of realism to it. But, everyone swings "suspension of disbelief" like it was a giant cudgel for smashing a bad plot into a pleasing shape...rather than the fine tool for sparing detail that it really is. Top that off with the really kludgy and convoluted "solution" to the problem, that still isn't resolved until yet another really contrived solution that has to be done in a movie for some reason. The whole of the show had always been that humans are scrappy and clever and will come up with their own way to defeat an enemy by discovering a tech, or by using an existing tech in a weird way that no one does. Instead, with both the replicators, and the Ori...it's all about just finding a specific device and using it exactly the way it's supposed to be used. No ingenuity, no determination, no nothing. Just...find thing...use thing. And in both cases, it was because the enemy was absurdly immune to every other possible means of defeating them. Not for any real reason, just because plot, that's why. When I rewatch the show, I just skip the last couple of seasons. Which kinda sucks, because I really did enjoy Mitchell and Vala, and felt they could've been great carriers for future seasons. But...goddamn the Ori are just fucking STUPID.
You are not alone in your views on the Ori, i have heard them many times, at least for those who liked them they got a few seasons, whereas a race that i would have liked to have seen more of, The Aschen only got two episodes.
A “cliffhanger” just waiting for a second part is “A Hundred Days”. Maybe the new series can answer that question by having hacks child as a member? They would be in their 20s now. Btw am I the only one who says “hollowed are the ori” when I hear “ori” said? 😉
I would have had the cliffhanger after the Ori have laid waste to this galaxies fleet. There is nothing to stop them and then you see Vala on one of their ships pregnant.
I always hate how season endings are always cliffhangers. Luckily SG1 had the movies to wrap things up just barley but I am worried about Atlantis and Universe.
WHAT?!?!?! Oh, come on. NO…! A cliffhanger is NOT frequently resolved at the beginning of the following episode! That is a truism across all TV series not just the Stargate franchise. The cliffhanger IS resolved within the following episode, most often at its own conclusion.
Exodus is a great episode and blowing up the sun was awesome but I never can get over the fact that in the vastness of the universe they come out inside a galaxy, that somehow Apophis comes out right next to them, and there’s a replicator ship nearby too. It’s a tv show I get it just the logical part of my mind going “yeah that’s not right”

I'd hardly call Gerak one of their closest allies. He's an antagonist during his entire time on the show. Not a villain. But certainly not an ally.

There are plenty of memorable moments. My favorites are :
1. 9x22 - when all hope seems to be lost at the arrival of the Ori fleet
2. 3x22 - when one of the Replicator survives
3. 4x22 - when Apophis managed to follow them
4. 2x22 - when Hathor holds up the Goa'uld
5. 1x21 - when the two Ha'tak ships reached our solar system
Two (or three) parters were always special as they had time to tell us a bigger, more complex story. The most outstandings are the Lost City, Moebius, Avalon (with Origin), the Reckoning (with Threads) and the Quest. The Lost City should have been released as a DVD movie with an upgraded/converted picture resolution. Anyway your list is very close to mine. Thanks for the video, Darren!

The entire series was and IS the biggest cliffhanger. I mean, the way SGU ended was disgusting. Not in the way it ended but the fact that it ended. If I may be so bold....I think the Stargate Universe has so much more potential than a Star Wars Universe for example.
Thank the Ori for Netflix, and them releasing all Episodes in one go of their TV shows. I could never stand cliffhangers as a kid, and I can't stand them now. They don't leave me wanting me, they just leave me annoyed.

I really hated almost everything about the Ori story arc.
I'm not really a fan of "precursor" civilizations in general because they're impossible, and sci-fi should have at least a shred of realism to it. But, everyone swings "suspension of disbelief" like it was a giant cudgel for smashing a bad plot into a pleasing shape...rather than the fine tool for sparing detail that it really is.
Top that off with the really kludgy and convoluted "solution" to the problem, that still isn't resolved until yet another really contrived solution that has to be done in a movie for some reason.
The whole of the show had always been that humans are scrappy and clever and will come up with their own way to defeat an enemy by discovering a tech, or by using an existing tech in a weird way that no one does. Instead, with both the replicators, and the Ori...it's all about just finding a specific device and using it exactly the way it's supposed to be used. No ingenuity, no determination, no nothing. Just...find thing...use thing. And in both cases, it was because the enemy was absurdly immune to every other possible means of defeating them. Not for any real reason, just because plot, that's why.
When I rewatch the show, I just skip the last couple of seasons. Which kinda sucks, because I really did enjoy Mitchell and Vala, and felt they could've been great carriers for future seasons. But...goddamn the Ori are just fucking STUPID.
You are not alone in your views on the Ori, i have heard them many times, at least for those who liked them they got a few seasons, whereas a race that i would have liked to have seen more of, The Aschen only got two episodes.
A “cliffhanger” just waiting for a second part is “A Hundred Days”. Maybe the new series can answer that question by having hacks child as a member? They would be in their 20s now.

I would have had the cliffhanger after the Ori have laid waste to this galaxies fleet. There is nothing to stop them and then you see Vala on one of their ships pregnant.
It sounds like you're describing the exact cliffhanger sequence from "Camelot" there. This is #1 on our list!
I always hate how season endings are always cliffhangers. Luckily SG1 had the movies to wrap things up just barley but I am worried about Atlantis and Universe.
What would Atlantis have to resolve aside from whether or not to return the city to the Pegasus galaxy?

WHAT?!?!?! Oh, come on. NO…! A cliffhanger is NOT frequently resolved at the beginning of the following episode! That is a truism across all TV series not just the Stargate franchise.
The cliffhanger IS resolved within the following episode, most often at its own conclusion.

Exodus is a great episode and blowing up the sun was awesome but I never can get over the fact that in the vastness of the universe they come out inside a galaxy, that somehow Apophis comes out right next to them, and there’s a replicator ship nearby too.

I think they went to the same hyperspace window and that's why they ended up in the same place.
