Guarantee it will be at least a month or a little longer before they do that.
Really all this shouldn't be an issue.
We're paying over $1,000 for a phone, it should be the consumer's choice to enable or disable the GOS app.

The thing is, you are getting a very small fps boost around 5 fps (10 at best in some places) for almost 3x the energy usage. Your battery will go down 3 times faster, and your phone heat up a lot more. It can actually be dangerous for the hardware. Samsung isn't stupid and their engineers have for sure very strong reasons to turn down the phones performance. However, it's very nice as an end user to be able to have some control over this, so it's still nice that we can actually disable it if we want

    • @greenmiles9896
      @greenmiles9896 2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

True, but i think if GOS is limiting other apps performance like instagram or even camera app itself, it may be worth disabling. However for games its definitely a good thing to have as shown here

    • @evelynlopez8314

It is not whether we should or should not enable or disable GOS. . With this type of information samsung is in evidence of selling top phones overpowered without Developing technology to match processors vs heat dissipation. I think your point is valid about not worth it the "overclocking"but this should not be a trick on a 1300 euros phone. I think heat dissipation technology lacks a lot of development or at least samsung is not willing to invest in it even when we know about there has been a lot of new information about heat dissipation lately. Even with the vapor chamber in the s22 it seems to be obsolet already... Samsung has been exposed in selling race cars to match the competitors but putting them a governor in the gas throttle when the demo has finished.

    • @psycho3324
      @psycho3324 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@evelynlopez8314 I don't think that is the whole issue. GOS is a symptom of a larger issue. Phones always struggle in dissipating heat, if you can't control the heat dissipation. you control the heat output. which is what GOS is doing. Golden Reviewer takes a temperature reading of the device. And Samsung phones run cooler [at the expense of performance]
GOS is doing it's job. it keeps the power consumption below 5W.
In their eyes sacrificing performance for battery life/thermals is a tradeoff they're willing to accept and have been for the past 4 years.
GOS is a symptom that S.LSI and ARM's in design chips have not been able to match or exceed Performance per Watt of that found in Qualcomm and Apple's Silicon. This is the band-aid that they've been using to meet their power requirements.
Now what i'd like it to be possible is to disable it outright, yes maybe it's better for my battery to not get as hot. but my phone is my phone.
I did the workaround, now my phone runs just as hot as it did back in One Ui 3.
It also coincidentally runs Honkai better than it does stock.

For me who usually gets average of 25fps, I'll gladly take the 10fps increase 😂 and it does work. Now my average fps without gos is around 30-40fps which was never experienced on my S21u exynos 😂 it does generate a bit of extra heat but its worth it as long as you don't play for over an hour. First testing I did without gos I started with 80% battery and after 1hr and 30mins of gaming I was left with 20% battery. Using mobile data and with graphics at max. Now I still game without gos but at medium graphics. Still heats up tho but just as it would when playing pubg. Maybe at most 1° hotter

@@psycho3324 indeed it is not only a software stopper issue. But i still think processor manufactures and in this case samsung are building super fast phones and merchandising them as such but only on their conditions. Technology is there but they ate not willing to sacrifice one feature for overall better results for gamers. In example check lenovo duel there are many fails in the designed however there are sacrificing ip rating for better thermal conditions and thid is only the tip of the iceberg there so many thermal dissipation articles in the web and how to lower heat in exynos or qualcomm even cheap chipsets companies but as i said they are not willing to cross the line. I think shortly they should include a gaming option.for S series.

Very helpful. My problem wasn't with too little power, but auto locking refresh rate. Only change I'd recommend is using android sdk platform tools instead of that app. After disabling those 3 apps, my phone stopped locking my refresh rate to 48hz when playing intense games.
Edit: if you only want to disable variable refresh rate for games (and not boost power usage) leave game optimization services ON. The refresh rate will still be constant, but you won't be wasting that extra power.

I use Lycan method on my S20 FE 5G. This method seems easier as it doesn't require to start the app before the data/Wi-Fi. The setup steps is a bit more than NetGuard's but still worth it. And as a bonus, it can disable the services too instead of the entire app, great for controlling app's behaviour (there's a risk of that app crashing, for sure).

They should rename the app from 'Game' to 'Battery' Optimization, also they should give us the consumer the option to choose if we want battery or performance mode.
Just give us simple options in a gaming app with per game settings like,
    - CPU Max frequency slider for each cluster
    - GPU Max frequency slider
    - Toggle to Restrict Background Processes, etc
And other simple options like these that people will easily understand.

Pretty sure that's what "optimizations" means. Optimal usually doesn't mean max performance as much as it means balance of battery usage and performance. Personally I prefer GOS on because having it off makes the phone heat up like a laptop which isn't good for a device with no active cooling.

We can see why Samsung forced GOS on all users, the battery life. If they had let it run at 100% then in these battery life tests the S22 line would have tanked and been well beaten in these battery reviews. Very dodgy by Samsung. The main reason being that they do not throttle the benchmarks. What that means is they fake performance and battery life. I am not arguing against GOS per se, just that users should not have to go through hoops to have the choice. A simple pop-up when we game asking whether you want to disable GOS would have been consumer-friendly, not default throttling. From comment sections it appears 90% plus of Samsung owners never knew that they would never get close to the benchmark scores when playing games, and may explain why 120FPS games are few and far between.
Well done to all the techies that have exposed this Samsung practice and it will be all forgotten in a month or so once Samsung has put it right, but to the Samsung apologists that defend this, you should not put brand loyalty above consumer rights. Samsung made a mistake for sure but they responded quickly and come out of it well once they have removed this trick and no doubt Geekbench will repost their scores on their lists.

You can definitely alter physics though. Almost everyone has some old charge adapter for some old device they no longer have sitting around. Find one that outputs around 9v(up to 12v will work but 12v will be full speed fan spin only, 9v will be like 75% roughly, oh and a low-ish amperage to be safe, mine is 0.6A and the fan is 0.2 so it should only draw 0.2a) and wire it up to a pc fan. if lazy aim pc fan at phone and lay it on a table and it'll help cool it, if you feel inspired make some sort of cooling "stand" out of cardboard(cut a hole in the bottom of a box, put fan inside that, cut box to be level with your table or whatever, cut intake holes otherwise fan has nowhere to draw from). My phone feels cold to the touch in a 27C room with the fan running on slow speed(if its a 4 pin you can hook up the 2 extra control pins to each other which kills the fans speed by like 60%, perfect for quiet mode. Apparently they have some sort of PWM resistor inside, idk how it works but ive been using it like this for a week without an issue)
Assuming ofcourse you're playing on controller or a m/kb game here and outputting to a tv, good luck holding a fan on while playing touchscreen games lol

I have S22 ultra, i have solved it with another way. For games you must use game booster plus plugin in game booster to unlock 60fps (i got 46-60fps) in Genshin (choose max fps, all other setting max, turn off frame booster) .
Also to increase the performance, you can choose high performance (there optimal, high, max) (max is not stable in my opinion) in battery setting.
Also you can reduce the animation speed to increase snappy UI (in dev mode) . And you can turn off the auto close apps in battery settings too. So S22 can use 100% of the ram.
Actually i prefer 48fps in Genshin if they provide it 😂😂

Nevertheless, temperature did go higher than normal, not like unbearably hot, but definitely hotter.
Trying a previous version of the same emulator which also runs better with GOS on, the difference was imperceptible, some areas where I experienced frame drops were fluid, and temperature was pretty good. I am thinking thar because the old version was already running pretty well, the phone didn't need to do much more to improve, therefore temperature didn't go up; whereas the new one that was struggling to perform well did get a higher boost, resulting on a hotter phone.

Just for fun, can you try dipping the S22 Ultra into water container and do the game test? Its just like the one you do with the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Or, slap the Blackshark Cooler on the back of the S22 Ultra and do the test.
I just want to see if the S22 Ultra (SD8G1 and Ex2200) can stay stable 60fps if enough cooling is given.

Dont know about 60 fps, but it definitely will have a high and stable frame rate when enough cooling is given - even with game optimisation service on. I'm pretty sure it can give a constant 50+ fps frame rate in that case. Can confirm from playing pubg mobile on my s7 and s9. Cooling is all that's required. A fan like the blackshark one will more than do the trick.

I am no gamer but this is why I prefer iOS over Android - things on iOS just work. And no need for such adjustments.
I am using S22 Ultra and Pixel 6 Pro along my iPhone 13 Pro and in most scenarios iPhone is better. Daylight camera on S22 Ultra is AMAZING, so is zoom. But shutter lag sucks. Pixel's blur prevention is perfect for kids and also action pan. But its fingerprint is still not good.

Well I have been trying to get Samsung to realize that the gos worked perfectly fine with one ui 3.1 with the original software that s21 ultra came with the December 2020 software was perfectly fine the games worked perfectly fine also when you disable gos it doesn't fix the frame rate issue actually to get the best performance out of your games you just have to go to the gos app and clear data and open your game and play the only downside is you have to clear the data every time once you close the game before you play

Pushing your phone to sprint on a daily basis is not a good thing at all. I would turn GOS and would probably buy accessories like a controller to avoid touching the phone while playing, our hands alone can add heating or those nice cooling fans that you can stick to the back of the phone.

@@techandy1747 you said it would overheat and hurt the battery over time, I said disabling gos internet access (what was shown in the video) if that is overheating the battery it is a stupid design. Assuming what you described and what was shown in the video is correct.
Why samsung did it could be for several reasons, I agree it is for frame rate stability. But I'd rather have unrestricted performance within thermal throttle limits. The phone will still thermal throttle if it gets too hot, even with gos disabled.
