When it comes to diction, she is peerless. No matter what note she is singing, or how powerful, you can understand every word. She is and always has been in a class by herself.

Reading her autobiography right now. Streisand addresses the fact she wanted to be an actor first, but singing paved the way to stardom. Watching her perform here (and anywhere else) proves she attained both, as the greatest singing actor of her generation- she tells a story and plays a character with every song- bravo, Barbra!
I've seen it, but I still don't believe it. 20 years old and in possession of a very special talent. Streisand was a superhero masquerading as a mere mortal.
There are have been lots of good singers in the past, there are maybe a few today. And then there's Barbra Streisand. Truly in a league of her own. She has the most remarkable non operatic voice in the world. But also what sets her apart from all the other is the incredible control she has over it. She knows how to use her instrument like no other singer I've ever heard. A true musical wonder the likes of which we'll never see again.

I can still remember the first time that I heard Barbra Streisand sing, I was around 10yrs old and at the cinema with my dad and after the film’s finished and we were all leaving they played a film trailer and it was Barbara singing Don’t Rain on my Parade, I just looked at this woman singing on the screen and the hairs on the back of my head stood up, I didn’t know who she was then but I fell in love with her voice right then, I’m now 70yrs old and an still in love 🥰 with this woman’s voice, and it’s good to know that I’m not by myself in feeling this way, there are millions around the world 🌎 September 2021 Love to you all around the world ❤️💐🎤
know what you'r talking about... I was 12 when I watched Funny Girl. And when I heard her sing My man - that was it. I was hooked. I always wanted to see her in concert, of course. And I always thought that the chances for that were zero. Then, about 8 years ago, she came to my country, The Netherlands, to do a concert. I have an illness and at that time I was to sick to go. And seeing her in Amsterdamon the news just broke my heart. But I have her new/old album Barbra Streisand - Live at the Bon Soir and it is sooooo good!.
I used to sing along with this song when I was 5/6 years old. I started voice lessons because of this woman. I studied 13 years. She was such an inspiration for me. Still is.
I have loved Barbra Streisand's singing since I was a little boy & my mom took my sister and me to see the film of Funny Girl. Barbra inspired me to sing many years before I ever thought I could and I will be forever in her debt. It's fascinating to see in this performance - pre-Broadway success - there are some things she has yet to learn. Here, she is self-consciously acting her song - something I have never seen Barbra Streisand do. By 1965 - only 3 years from this performance - when she filmed her first television special, "My name is Barbra" she is a polished performer whose ability to express her songs is flawless. She is as much an actress as a singer and nobody watching those performances of the mid 1960s could be surprised that she would become a major film star. But here, it is moving to see the raw talent on display not yet perfected. What a force she has been and how lucky we are to see this amazing glimpse into the beginnings of her legend...
Not perfected? What do you mean? It's pretty perfect to me. In fact, more than perfect : it's transcendental. I am sure that Barbra never tried to be perfect, perfection is boring. You hear someone like Julie Andrews : SHE is perfect, there is no flaw in her singing. I love her but it's not unique, expressive and original like Barbra. Listen to the last note here : she sings it straight tone, no vibrato. Now, for a purist, only concerced with technique and perfection, it would be deemed "imperfect". But she sings it that way to add expression, as if she was saying : "I am too sad to produce a perfect note". That choice alone convey more vulnerability, like a little child singing innocently. Those type of choices, that freedom of expression, not encombered by years of formal trainging and the empasis on acting, rather than singing, is what makes her so unique. But, having a perfect voice, the sound would come out perfect most of the time, by accident. I doubt that Barbra's goal was perfection at all time.
I heard her saying, bewitched, bothered and bewildered, and it blew me away. I think it was on ed thatSullivan. I started searching for her album ever since I never heard anyone sing like that before with such a range and emotion.
An exquisitely lovely young woman, who when she sings, transposes raw and passionate human emotion into extraordinarily sung musical notes and beautifully enunciated and acted out lyrics. While I am not much of a fan of how she delivers the goods these days, she will always have my love, admiration and gratitude for what she was and still could be!
I've heard other artists record this no one even comes close to this you feel it every truly great singer can own one song Barbra manages to own everything she records!
This is impeccable and pristine. I knew of Barbra but I never really payed attention and I’m glad I did. You can call her the singer with the most amazing acting skill or the actress with the most amazing voice because she is both!
