Put cross hairs on target, shoot. Hold cross hairs back at the same aiming point on target, now adjust cross hairs to be on the hole the first shot made........rifle is now zeroed at that distance. One shot not a box to zero.
I recently bought an Axis in 30-06. I'm glad to see right out of the box it will do decent grouping at 25 yards. However since I already bought mine. I plan to perhaps upgrade the rings then remount the scope and be sure everything is evenly tight and right where it needs to be. Bore sight it, then go from there. Also with the price of ammo these days. I will use a new point of aim after each adjustment, start at 50 yards, then repeat at 100, then call it good enough. Enjoyed your video.

I won a Savage Axis at a Sportsman's dinner plus another rifle. I traded the other rifle for a good Weaver 3-9x40 scope and Laser sighted it on the garage over head door. Took it out pig hunting next week. I sat the pig I wanted and put the cross hairs on the Pig's left ear and fired. Pig tipped over and went 4 hooves up. the shot was a little low, it hit the scapula, ricochet into the spine and ricochet into the heart. Best bank shot I ever made. I liked your video because I have and love all my Axis rifles. I would suggest you get a shooting rest that holds the gun in place like a gun sled style and watch some other videos on TH-cam about sighting in a rifle where they bore sight the old fashioned way by removing the bolt and putting your target dead center of the bore looking down the barrel for starters. I am sure you understand the clicks and yardage well after so many other people said the same thing over and over so many times. Have a nice day and enjoy shooting and making videos. You should be able to sight a rifle in real good with no more than 9 shots.
It's not a clip it's called a magazine. Sight your gun in at 50 yards , shoot 3 bullets, adjust scope clicks in scope x2 since it's set for clicks perc100 yards. So double that at 50 yards. Then you'll be right on the money
Spend a little more and get the ruger American. I purchased one in .308 as a budget sniper project and prior to altering the rifle I was getting 1/4 inch groups at 100yrds. At twenty five yards you needed about 44 clicks left and about 32 clicks up to get on center on that target. Four clicks per inch at 100 yards. Turning in as small increments as you were, you would have been better off getting on paper and zeroing in at 100 yards, then adjust to the distance you believe you will be shooting game at. Nice grouping, I think you bought a very capable deer rifle.
With a bolt action, just bore-sighting by sighting through the barrel and adjusting the scope accordingly is easy without the need for a bore-sighting kit.
I’d say it was bore sighted just fine. Really needed to do some math on those clicks though. Have the same gun in 6.5 and took no more than 6 shots to have it sighted at 25 yards. Knowledge of sighting using the scope turrets is key because this is my first rifle. Just did a bunch of research before blowing through all my ammo
The rifle was boresighted just fine from the factory homeboy just didn't know how to sight his rifle in after that and at first moved it not enough the right direction then moved it the wrong direction then didn't move it enough clicks at a time the hard time setting in had nothing to do with the bore sighting
You were turning it the wrong way. To move the shot to the left you have to screw the knob in. To move to right you screw the knob out. Plus a 1/4 moa scope is four clicks @100 yards, so @ 25 yards you would need to turn 16 clicks per inch of movement.
I thought the rifle grouped well, the problems that I had with it were purely operator error. In my opinion, its a solid rifle for the money. Thank you for watching!
From that first group, theres no problem with the gun. They're a good shooting little rifle. Only thing I dont like about them is the bolt. You have to bring it too far up to be able to cycle the the cartridge and it seems ungainly. Other than that they're a good gun, and fairly light. I've got the 6.5 with the stainless barrel and the accutrigger. I like it. But for weight, balance and portability I like either the old 3030 Winchester or New England single shot which they dont make anymore. I hear Henry has a nice single though.

1:22 the answer is no, but the answer is still no regardless of what rifle you buy. Not testing and proving your rifle before going hunting would just be irresponsible. 5:19 that's the type of group I would expect at 100 yards with this rifle. Not even sure why you'd fire at something that close unless you're just seeing if it's on paper at that range before sighting it in. Obviously, you're new to this, it's all a learning experience. Thanks for sharing.

What ever brand and grain combo your rifle likes, and depends if you are taking it hunting or just targets. Every rifle likes a different brand and bullet weight of ammo, but once you found the one that shoots most accurate, stick with it.
The scope on it is adequate out to 200 yd. Why would anyone want a 50 mm scope? 44 mm has as much field of view as one can get. 50 mm is just a cheap way to get more light. 50 mm scopes are just too bulky. Been there done that. I wish I could get 25 cents on the dollar for the 50 mm scopes I bought in the past. What I am saying is I have made that mistake on 50 mm scopes in the past and it is a major mistake.
you weren't twisting the windage knob the right way which cause you to keep shooting for the right you just did it correctly the first time but then you thought you twisted it the wrong way to the right which was the wrong way which cause you keep shooting for the right it says on the scope either L or R you have an arrow pointing which way
Buy a $20 laser than you stick in the end of the barrel to get the zero close and see which way the adjust move point of aim; cheaper than a box of ammo these days. Then a few bullets to zero.
A clip is used to load a magazine. A magazine is used to load a firearm. 1 click on your scope is equivalent to 1/4" at 100 yards. That's like 1/16th" at 25 yards I think. I appreciate the video and it was useful to me but you should really know what you're talking about and doing before trying to inform other people. Sorry to bust your balls dude.
Typical sticky bolt, typical ejection problems. Keep trying Savage talk to Tikka, They will show you how to make an action that functions! Listen to your customers and watch these videos! Come on guys!!!
STOP! JUST STOP WASTING THAT EXPENSIVE AMMO! Initially I start with a 3 shot group. Go to the target, measure the distance to bullseye, make the required adjustments. 4" right at 25y, move scope LEFT 16 clicks with a 1/4" MOA scope = 4 inches. Shoot 2-3 more and see where it hits... if it isn't even close STOP SHOOTING and assess the situation. OR, you can just shoot 1-2 rounds, aim your scope to the bullet holes where it impacted the target and adjust your scope to the bullseye while you are aiming point blank at the POI on your target. (Might have to get your wife to adjust while you are holding steady as you don't have a lead sled.) Just blowing ammo away like this makes me cringe 🙂 happy shooting.
If one click moves the strike of the round one quarter of an inch at one hundred yards it will take five clicks to move the strike of the round that same one quarter inch at twenty yards!!!!!
Actually, usually scopes are pretty much all 1/4" or 1/4 moa @ 100 yards...
As you're at 25 yards, you're 4x closer... that means 4x more clics to get it right...

Nope very accurate box scope doesn’t do it justice. 1” @ 300 yds with a leopold xpii40 3x9
mines in 30-06 Springfield, haven't shot it yet
I bought the 30-06 Springfield today. I'm cracking up because the samething happened to me today.
I hope you brought more ammo, 4 clicks at 20 yds=
4 click at 25 yrs is a quarter inch. Needed to go 20 clicks left 8 up should put you on.
Heck Yeah
It also comes in 25-06 to
It takes 16 klicks to move 1 inch at 25 yards
Nice video I definitely want one in 30-06
Bought one yesterday in a 30-06 haven't shot it yet
@@charlesnorman1072 I'm thinking about getting one of these in 30-06. I just came across a hec of a deal on 750 rounds of ammo. Now I need rifle ! How is yours doing? Are you happy with it?
@@shadowwolf7622 killed two deer with it already they where on the move win i shot. Killed them grave yard dead. Its a tack driver. Get you one you wont be disappointed im glad i got mine
@@shadowwolf7622 mine is 30-06
@@charlesnorman1072 That is a great testimony! My local shop here in southern Indiana has several of these in stock. Including 5 in 30-06. Between $420-450, depending on configuration. Seems a little high, but not unexpected with the current circumstances. They will bore site the scope and loc-rite the screws for free if I buy the rifle from them. I've been watching reviews and most are very good. I've got an old Savage bolt action chambered in. 222 Remington. It was our ground hog gun around our farm when I was growing up. It's seen a lot of use over the years and is still going strong. I'm glad you are happy with your '06 and thanks for the fast reply !
What twist is your 223
25 yards not 4 clicks.....16 to one inch i believe ... But was fun to watch
Very useful review!
Savage axis ii XP comes in all callers
but no magnum rounds. I got 6 Savage axis rifles like them. Hate the new Logo Chang not good.
That accutrigger helps me but just personal preference
No i have had the same scope problem
It appears you were off about 40 clicks, not 4 -- you were going the right way to start with !
what would you say the best ammo for sighting this gun in would be?
Bretly Clarke as with any rifle, if your using it for hunting I would recommend using whatever ammo you are going to use in the field.
What ever brand and grain combo your rifle likes, and depends if you are taking it hunting or just targets. Every rifle likes a different brand and bullet weight of ammo, but once you found the one that shoots most accurate, stick with it.
Mines a 30-06 but took the shitty scope off and put a Sig Sauer Whiskey 3 4-12X50mm
What I am saying is I have made that mistake on 50 mm scopes in the past and it is a major mistake.
you can just push the round straight down into the mag
geeven chetty no you can't the opening is to small.
Not on this rifle bud
I got a Putin targit and put poop on it. At 100 yds i shoot the flyes that dair land.
25 yards 16 clicks will give you about an inch. At 100 yards 4 clicks should give you an inch, other then that good video.
scott brake thanks my friend!
GunTimez #Josh No problem I also have those moments every now and then. I have the axis in 223 and it shoots very tight groups for such a cheap rifle.
Ya and if you ever wanted to tighten the groups up just buy a higher quality barrel and call it good.
16 clicks=1 inch at 25 yards is correct.
If your hitting to the RIGHT, Move your scope to the right which will force you to pull your aim back to the LEFT.
Wrong, you adjust scope WHERE you want bullets to go... it is hitting right, move scope left.
you weren't twisting the windage knob the right way which cause you to keep shooting for the right you just did it correctly the first time but then you thought you twisted it the wrong way to the right which was the wrong way which cause you keep shooting for the right it says on the scope either L or R you have an arrow pointing which way
Buy a $20 laser than you stick in the end of the barrel to get the zero close and see which way the adjust move point of aim; cheaper than a box of ammo these days. Then a few bullets to zero.
You really didn't understand scopes when you made this video
Been a long time
Just leave the cap off. If your shooting to the right, then move about 4 clicks to the left.
20 YDS?
everytime i hear anything about winsconsin i think of that 70s show
XxVeNoMxX That was set in Wi wasnt it? haha
I don’t understand the “ i dont know where the rounds are going lets just keep cranking them out” like unless you want to waste Money and time.
At 4:40 did someone shoot a canon !?
bkelleythehive there was a guy shooting a 338 lane over
1 click is 1/4 inch at 100. At 25 its quadrupled. You could of sighted that in in 3 shots easily
Nice job. Thanks for spending time to give us some good info. Have a great and safe 2017!
Gator Mack Thank you! And Happy New Year to you and yours! Thanks for watching!
Why would you zero that rifle at 25 gaf! At least 50m
YEAH THAT BOLT IS TRICKY.
At the very start you should have gone like 32 clicks to the left
You've only been making 4 click adjustments which is only 1/4" at 25 yards so your just not moving it enough and confusing yourself
is this a 30-06
No, its a 243
But you can get them in 30-06!
bore sighting saves ammo
A clip is used to load a magazine. A magazine is used to load a firearm.
1 click on your scope is equivalent to 1/4" at 100 yards. That's like 1/16th" at 25 yards I think.
I appreciate the video and it was useful to me but you should really know what you're talking about and doing before trying to inform other people. Sorry to bust your balls dude.
Typical sticky bolt, typical ejection problems. Keep trying Savage talk to Tikka, They will show you how to make an action that functions! Listen to your customers and watch these videos! Come on guys!!!
Wisconsin?? That accent hehe
Keep in mind guns have a break in period so there are bound to be A couple flyers from time to time
If you are going to make a video maybe you should learn about shooting a rifle.
32 l. 32 up.
(Might have to get your wife to adjust while you are holding steady as you don't have a lead sled.)
Just blowing ammo away like this makes me cringe 🙂 happy shooting.
Yes, 16 clicks equals 4 inches AT 100 YDS! He was shooting at 25 yds. so to move impact 4 inches at 25 yds., it would take around 64 clicks.
Pretty sure you wanna sight a rifle In at 100 yard at least not 25!🤔
That rifle should have been sighted in with 6 rounds at 25 yards if you'd have done the math and not just blindly make adjustments
I learned the hard way but eventually caught on. you can sure burn through a box of ammo if you don't know what to do
Scopes are not the best on these rifles but Rings are total crap!! I'm getting another rings !! Torque them to specs and use Loctite !!
Dude, learn how to adjust a scope then shoot a video.
lmao right in the forehead. that was funny.
If one click moves the strike of the round one quarter of an inch at one hundred yards it will take five clicks to move the strike of the round that same one quarter inch at twenty yards!!!!!
TH-cam little to many adds starting to really suck
