I saw Blind Faith July 13 1969 in Bridgeport Ct. Of course the perform the entire album. They were using Firebirds. Though the Free were billed as opener, Rory Gallagher (The Taste) opened, followed by Delaney and Bonnie then Bling Faith. Janis Joplin came and hung out at the concert. She had played the Yale Bowl in New Haven the night before. Great night.
That was a month before the Woodstock festival!!! To see Blind Faith, Free, Taste, Delaney and Bonnie had to be special!!! One of the early multi- band shows!!!
Does that mean that Free didn't perform?
I saw them at Madison Square Garden the same summer. I can remember Free and Delaney and Bonnie as the opening acts. The thing I also remember is that Blind Faith only played for about 35-40 minutes and we stormed the stage... don't think at the time they were getting along very well.
Wow, that must have been awesome.
I saw them in Hyde Park, London, that same summer. I was 17yrs old.
Blind Faith made one record and, man, didn't they make it count. I love this song. Thank you for this tutuorial.
Angela, your enthusiasm, personality and method of breaking this song down makes this lesson fun, focused and with feeling! Thank you for all you do…
I grew up with Blind Faith - glad to see that someone much younger likes the music from the late 60's, early 70's.
Same here.. If you are new to this song, it’s really worth DLing to hear. Not just for Stevie Winwood’s amazingly smooth vocal performance on it [Notice, no matter how high he sings, his voice never ever thins out!] This made him one of the most sought after vocalists of the times.
Plus, DL to hear the ultra-complementary Nylon String lead going on constantly along with the rhythm, shown so nicely here, to the point where they practically blend as one, for they dove tail so well together, they enrich each other. So very worth a quick listen.
Atlantic City… played this tune in places back in the early 1970’s and no one gave a shit. 50 years later it has resurfaced in hundreds of video lessons… I like yours the best
I was in Bridgeport in 1969 too. They blended so well it felt like they’d been together for years. Then they dissolved onto their own separate paths. What a great series of concerts in Bridgeport . The Doors, Jimi Hendrix and Blind Faith.
mustve been the same tour that came thru LA at devonshire downs in 69... my brothers all went ..i was too young to go .. remember really wanting to see jimmy.. i can still feel the disappointment 😢
Just became aware of this lesson from you today. No one teaches the way that you do. Thank you so much for inspiring and encouraging all of us. You are an incredible gift to all of us making all of our musical lives so much richer. We so appreciate your talent and enthusiasm. I personally am so indebted to you for the joy that you have given me through learning new songs, thank you so much.
I’m an old guy that decided he wanted to start playing guitar a few months ago and I’m desperately trying to follow along. I love your passion and also your teaching method. It suits my learning modalities (albeit a tough go for me). Thanks for these lessons!
I'm right there with you, Brother! I picked up a guitar for the first time at age 60. Fast forward two years and I'm fair with basic chords but looking to continue to get better. Angela makes it a lot easier the way she breaks things down. Stay with it!
Agreed chaps. Im 69 Y.O and playing about 3 years and Angela explains these songs very well@@brucejordan8444
As Carlos Santana said, "When you play music, you bring light to the darkness."
Carry on bravely.
2 years down the road, but I’m an old guy who took up guitar two years ago. Hope you stuck with it! I’m having a blast.
I wish some day I can play this song and make it sound something like a song.... Clapton loved watching Duane Allman play he would crawl under the stage just to get a closer look at Duane playing slide...he was a huge fan....so when they got together to form Derek and the Domino's....like blind faith only produced one album.... really liked that one....my mom taught me how to play Layla on piano....loved it
Phoenix AZ: Angela, you know your stuff. Notes are spot on and your teaching slow repetitively works great. I’ve been playing for 50 years & I learned a song from you that I’ve wanted to play for that time frame. Just relax & teach without worrying about what we are thinking about you. You are great!
I’m 72 and love this song. Brings me back to the good times I had in the 60’s.
It sounds like they’re playing this on a resonator guitar. I have one and I am going to try it.
In retirement I have turned to all my lovely guitars to play these again. Do I like Blind Faith, YES, I saw them live in Regents Park London. Will I learn this tune, well maybe. BUT I could watch you all day, your personality is infectious. Please keep teaching videos going, you are great to watch. I shall keep a watch out for yet further hours of entertainment.
Went into a record store in Pittsburgh, a big record store, asked where the blind faith albums were. The clerk said he never heard of them, I was gobsmacked. Thank you Miss P.
I don't think I could play with my fat fingers won't work that way
This is a song that is never heard enough from a group that was so incredible to hear live. Great job breaking it down.
Certainly it's one of those songs that can be put on an endless loop, and never get boring.
John Paul Jones playing "Going to California" on the mandolin is like that too.
Clapton in the Bluesbreakers is my favorite, but this is one of my favorite songs ever. Fort Worth, TX here.
John Mayall, lest we forget.
Really excellent job of teaching this song! You broke it down into digestible parts and brought it all together in the end. With enthusiasm and lots of smiles. Well done Angela! I am now a fan!
Sixty one yr. old grandpa here. My grandson wants me to teach him how to play guitar. This will be the song I start him on.
Thank You, Teacher!
Pennsylvania checking in , absolutely love Blind Faith, favorite song “ in the presence of the Lord “
The Yardbirds ! It had the greatest set of guitarists known to man.
Electric prunes too.
Good call.
Playing for 55 years she is a great teacher. I used to love playing music with females, but not many want to be heard. The thing I love about them, they are very detailed about playing....very cool.
I get chills when I hear this song - one of the most beautiful songs of all time. Great job!
And all about a guy getting too inebriated.
Wow. I never considered that Winwood might be a connoisseur of alcoholic beverages until reflecting on this song, and "John Barleycorn."
Not being able to find his way home may be how the World lost guitar virtuoso Gary Moore.
Just live forever Stevie.
Great lesson yet again and we even had the pleasure of hearing a small sample of your beautiful voice.
I gotta say, You have inspired me to take up guitar again, .... I sat it down for 10 years after I had my stoke. I was learning this song when I had my stroke in 2012, I love this song and I love your teacing meathod. Thank you
Thanks for the lesson, Angela. As a former SoCal guy from Huntington Beach and been away for about 12 years here in Southern Indiana, I sure wish I could find my way home. :)
Thank you Miss Angela for an awesome tutorial on this beautiful song. You’re a gifted teacher and musician
Thanks Angela and Greetings from England .A great song and a great lesson, and a minor win for me. I'm 69 years old and been playing for about 3 years. I attempted this lesson about a year ago and found it very trying......... I've just come back to it this evening and I've almost mastered it!!
Your lessons are at a nice pace and thank you for taking the time to show us each note you are playing...and keep repeating it....I feel good when you advance to the next section.
Clear. Concise. With just the right amount of genuine passion. Yes, you were meant to teach.
Thanks for this.
First time going by seeing you teaching I would say you are truly amazing woman if you don't mind me saying so. Love seeing you love listening to you love learning from you and just love you. You inspire me God bless you
I'm retired from San Francisco to the Philippines now. I'm a big fan old Eric and just love the derik and the dominos album. Thanks for the great video. Much love, mike....
Hey Angela! I have to give you thanks from the bottom of my heart. 5 Years ago I stopped playing guitar. Going thru many challenges in life and losing my wife and family. For some reason I stopped playing .Stopped learning. But last week I found this video and picked up my guitar again and it has helped me start healing in my life and my divorce. I saw your video and it inspired me to dust off my guitar and start playing again this week. You are a great teacher and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your videos put me at ease and songs I never attempted to learn you make it seem easy. Thank you from your newest fan!
Thank you for the kind words. Much success to you.
I’m from Florida. I’ve been playing guitar for one year this month. And Blind Faith is my Favorite band that The Great Eric Clapton was in 🍄 I am grateful that those days will be returning again . You do a excellent job teaching guitar. Thank you
You are an excellent teacher. Your enthusiasm is infectious! Your lesson's are detailed but easy to follow. Thank you so much!
Thank you! Be sure to subscribe to keep up with all my live lessons! Cheers!
I have tried to play this for a long time. Your breaking it into parts and slowly going through the combination chords/chords with a bass note really helped me get it. The drop D also adds a nice touch. Thanks.
Your lesson on this song is awesome, so clear and entertaining. I really learned much more from your instruction. Looking forward to more from your channel.
I’ve seen a thousand teachers, and you are the best. That’s saying a lot.🎉 Well done.
The words “Bad Ass” came to mind after watching this ! Awesome 👏
Fantastic lesson, thank you! You've taken me from being awestruck by this tune to being close to playing it in 4 watches, really grateful for this and will definitely be checking out your other lessons!
Wonderful playing, great song choice, great guitar and sound.... thanks Martin. Great lesson, girl. Thanks for the lesson and giving back.
Yet another great instruction video! Thank you for making learning these great songs fun!
Thanks for a clear demo of this song. Watched a few others, weird tunings, yours made sense.
Even though I played the song over and over and I think I have a down Pat the last few days when I've come home from work I've jumped right on TH-cam to grab this video and play it along with you it's so fun to play thank you Angela for all your videos videos we all love you
I love that you show your mistakes. Makes you an even better teacher.
Angela your an excellent teacher. Hope Fishman knows this and keeps supporting you to continue this program. I look forward to each new lesson.
Love this song. Your lesson inspires me to pick up my guitar and learn the chords and riffs. Thanks for the lesson. Very well presented.
Great great job of teaching ,Angela!
Irwin, PA. Damn fine job. One the most touching and beautiful songs ever written.
Hi Angela, coming to you from Palmdale Ca., North LA county. Only been play for a year and a half. So happy i found you, you're exactly what i need at this point.
You’re an amazing guitar teacher. Keep up the great work and keep em coming. Thanks!!!!
OK, so you said something that resonated with me. This song by Steve Winwood is really beautiful on so many levels. It bothers me when I hear people dismiss it as a "drunk song" because of the lyric. They are missing so much. For example, there are many tunes with a descending bass in the verse, but that technique here really touches a nerve. The chord changes over this along with some very beautiful suspensions really give the song its character. Add the dynamics and the vocal melody and you can see why the song is such a hit and sounds so good so many years later. Thank you, Angela, for the way you explain things. I see that you have a very high level of musicianship which shows through without your even trying. It's very admirable. Tony from Detroit
cant imagine anyone seeing this and not falling in love with u, the guitar and the song...
I'm a relively advanced guitar player who firmly believes in "back to basics" especially when I'm having a writing block and I just think you're awesome! Congrats... You're really very good at what you do... and you have awesome taste in music!
Thank you for this wonderful lesson. Rest In peace Steve, but your songs will live on for eternity. Thanks again.

You are correct! My bad. It was a hoax. I’m very happy.
wow what a great job...very great, interesting presentation with clarity....just wow..awesome job Angela
Angela! Where have you been all my life? You’re lessons are the best!,,
Thanks! Don't forget to subscribe to my channel!
Scotland here. Great lesson and such a beautiful song. And you couldn't resist adding your own artistry to it! Definitely Cream re Clapton.
I've done this song just about every gig since 1975. I still love it. Great to sing too, a lot of meat on the bones vocally. I like your guitar too. I play a 000-28 and a D-16. You're really good at this! Keep it up. Great way to pay it forward. If you were my daughter I'd be very proud.
Vancouver Island BC Canada. I’ve been working on Hideaway ~ Albert King but love Clapton’s version on Blues Breakers album.
Fav album Clapton and Winwood Live at Madison Square Garden!!
Amazing Angela Petrilli always doing the best sound! Hats off @angela
That is simple - the drop D tuning stands out so much. Good lesson on a great Steve Winwood song.
Where was me so long time? Faund Your channel just now, 2023! You blowe up, Angela! So easy and pleasant to learn👍
One of those genius magical songs from Steve. Learning guitar at 68 , great guitar tuition thank you.
Thank you for teaching!!! I'm an intermediate player and it helps me to have an instructor that doesn't go to fast. I love to watch you, I can see the passion that you have for music and teaching. If you are taking requests, I would love to learn how to play "What you give" by Tesla. Thank you!!!
The sound you get.....Ughhhh nice... and you have a great feel!!! Loved this....
What a beautiful voice and guitar player keep it up your on the right track remember the music comes from the heart always ❤️
Fine job of teaching it.
Finally a cover using a Pick on this great song!
I going to have to install a fishman in my acoustic I'll check out what you have. I set it up as close as it gets in easy playing and tonality balance from low on the neck to high. Cut my own bone nut and saddle so my strings are resting at the nut and saddle at just less than 1mm and nothing scrubbing past the nut on the head, all that means is day and night higher volume sustained and all harmonic's ringing clearly in the area of the guitar, and especially those higher harmonic's that are very shy, I'm ok with it, and wouldn't let anyone around here butcher it. All part of a complete study of music related to acoustic and electric guitars, your instructions are as I see them, the frosting on the cake, thank you Angela. I probably spelled your name wrong just got up from 17 hrs of music, well be fabulous
Great lesson! Angela, you have helped me learn so many songs I never imagined possible. You break the songs down so well. Thank you😊
50 miles South of Atlanta GA.Great song Great Job.Thank you !!
Awesome lesson! I've watched a few of the tutorials on this song! You rocked it girl! I've been playing for years, since I was 12 years old. took a 2 year course in High school. Did the Rock band thing, play the bar seen! I'm 59 now and I'm still learning and Thank you so much! XO
Love how you teach me... Just bought a new Gibson J45 12 string.. and just had it set up professionally, wow!!! Much love to you and thank you for doing this for us.. you really have inspired me to play more..
Finally someone who knows how to play and teach this! Thanks so much I can't wait to learn this from you.
Tuning in from Western Canada. Favourite Clapton lineup is the short lived but glorious Cream.
Very cool, Angela. You have many gifts. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for teaching me this song which I’ve long loved
Hi Angela. Once again you have struck a chord (hit me where I live) on a beautifully done lesson. Having mastered your "Rain Song" lesson, I'm learning this one now. I already played this but not nearly as well as you do. Thanks again for being the best guitar teacher on TH-cam. It's not even close....:).
Angela, you did a superb job of teaching this song! Thank-you! You cleared up any misperceptions that I had about how it was actually played.
I saw Steve Winwood in concert and he did this song during the show. Great tune.
Wow, this is an awesome LIVE lesson! I totally learned this song by watching this video. Great instruction!
Hey Angela, first of all great job. I have been looking at many people cover this and a couple of lessons and yours is the best by far, I first saw Stevie in 1973 with Traffic and have been a fan ever since. Please take a look at the version of him sitting infront of a fire playing it on his own and listen to the attack he gets in the bass, its essential to the dynamic and no one else is doing it and without it you lose the essence. He has dropped his Martin down a whole tone in this performance and i don't want to take nothing from you but hey, Stevie is the master. much love and keep on doing what your doing.
Are you any type of full time teacher? (Hopefully only a guitar tutor) if not, you should be! You are one of the best I've listened to. I'm not just saying that for any reason whatsoever. The way you explained that, I could just watch and listen, then pick my gittar up and probably play this without trying to learn, pause, learn more, pause, so forth and so on. I really enjoyed your vid!
OMG Angela! One of my favorite old tunes. Thank you so much for teaching this song ❤ Huge EC fan and Steve Winwood as well. They have created and shared so much great music. I was listening to this as recently recorded music when I was in HS
Awesomeness! Love Blind Faith!
Often when I want to learn a asong quickly for one of my videos, I watch yours to get it because I know it's gonna be accurate. Thanks!
I know that this video is 2 yes old but today is the day I decided to learn it and when you asked for my favorite Eric Clapton band I had to leave a comment since I will be attending Eric’s concert in Minneapolis tomorrow night. One of only 5 stops on the North American tour Other than two nights at the Crossroads Blues Festival in LA.
Picking a favorite Clapton band is really sort of unfair because he’s done so many great songs but if I could go back in time and see a Cream Concert , I’d be On my way stopping by Tim O’Leary’s on the way !
Thanks Angela for the great tutorial. You and your playing are very fine!
Your so talented Lisa I'm excited about learning.
Hi. Gave up trying to find the end of all the positive comments. Great selection of songs. Love your teaching style. Don't ever change.
An attractive young woman who plays well and has the patience to explain- thank you for this lesson, Angela! The tab would help, as I'm more of a "paper" learner.
I gave this a thumbs up when you first streamed it and there isn't a two thumbs up button so here's a comment for the algorithmic bump. I'm back because I'm working on this song now and just want to say thanks for the very useful body of work that you've shared here.
I've been scouring TH-cam for weeks now, listening to all the different versions as I never felt that mine was really where I wanted it to be. THIS is the explanation I've been looking for... thank you!
Wow thank you, Michael!
Blind Faith is probably my favorite Clapton band. Two of my favorite songs (by anyone) are Can't Find My Way Home and Sea of Joy.
Love ❤️ the way you teach. You make complicated stuff so easy. You are a great teacher!! 👍🙏
WOW - I really can play one of my FAVORITE songs! Really amazing teaching style too! Thank you so much!!
I loved this song by Blind Faith till I saw Yvonne Elliman do it at The Old Grey Whistle. She was EXCELLENT! Not to take anything away from Marcy Levi's expertise on harmonica... I just had to go back over there and listen one more time before getting back to your lesson!
Steve Winwood has a video of himself playing this song in front of a fireplace and it is awesome.
Thank you Angela.
Thanks for your insightful instruction on this beautiful blues composition. I had begun this piece with another instructor and he is very good with the melody within the chords but you provided clarity on the chord arpeggios, the strum/fingerings, to D on the 6th, and clarity on use of the sus A, and the F# hammer on the D chord, (to which I took the liberty of also adding to the D, a pinky hammer on at the E string G and its pull off back to the regular D chord, just because to me it also seemed to fit haha) been playing approx 6 months and my experience has been greatly enhanced by your comprehensive instruction!
Great with the hammer on the B on the walk down. Lots of people miss that technique. Been playing this poorly since it was written and now you've shown all the chords and tunings and it sounds amazing now! Thanks Angela
honey, you re just amazing teacher, i ve learned so fast this song with your easy technique, thank you 🫶🏻
Tuning in from Bay City, Michigan. Blind Faith. Found you from Norman's Rare Guitars many years ago. I have downloaded your new work! Great job.
this is great but its even greater when you sing! Thank you so much Angela. Thank you thank you.
