In the Army in Germany in 1970. Playing this song on my guitar for my friends in the barracks. One month later on my way to Vietnam--didn't find my way home for a long, long time . . . ,
I feel for you brother
@@genekupid7860 Thank you, Gene.
Welcome home, Paul.
@@barryshannahan5988 Thank you, Barry,
Brother glad your back
I don’t know why she’s not more famous than she is. Rachael has a wonderful voice with great pitch and power and can even sing in a jazz style as well. A great talent in my opinion.
All that and a bag of chips.
One of my favorite Voices of all time. Easy on the eyes as well
I agree with all the platitudes of her singing, but the brutal truth is you don't really achieve a great deal of fame singing covers.
@@chrismulvaney8779 Sarah Vaughan , Ella Fitzgerald, June Christy, Anita O day , Dinah Washington , Billy Holiday , Nina Simone , Bessie Smith all very famous and sang cover songs. Rachael also has a small band that she fronts, and they have their own songs as well. I think that pretty much covers it .
@@chrismulvaney8779 Joe Cocker would like to have a word with you.
OK, everybody here knows that she is the lead singer for Lake Street Dive and 1/2 of the duo Rachael and Vilray, right?
As of this comment, 714 people must be deaf!! This gal could sing the white pages of the phone book and I would listen!! Good lord sure blessed her with one powerhouse of a voice!!!
The country twang kills it for me. Not that I'm one of the downvotes or anything, and not saying the girl can't sing, but as soon as you get that country twankery in there, it ruins it for a lot of people.
I clicked on this by accident, never heard of this woman but she has a great voice!
Look up Lake Street Dive. Fabulous band which she fronts.
@@andrewhurlbut7475 The current lineup is great. Click 'like' if you still miss McDuck, though.
This woman has achieved perfection in doing this amazing song the justice it deserves. She sings it as hauntingly as Winwood would have wanted. Bravo to you Ms Price. I must play this again, and again!
God forbid a woman sings tenor.
I actually found this and have love it ever since I first heard her. Still have the record. 50 years and counting
th-cam.com/users/results?search_query=ellen+mcilwaine+can%27t+find+my+way+home
I like this a lot too, I was so curious to hear how she'd do it. The guitar and violin are wonderful and Im very open minded to new versions of classics but Winwood's original is just so other worldly. It always gives me chills when I hear it
Hard memories.......
For true!
Rachael is a national treasure. One of the most crystal clear and powerful voices in modern recoding history.
Amazing how her voice can equal all the instruments. 70% voice and 30% backup band. Incredible voice.
My God I just found this. She has THE most beautiful voice. Wow
Certanmon
Hm. Have you ever heard of for example Aretha Franklin, Mama Cass, Whitney Houston, Adele, ...? It's great, but THE most beautiful voice? Nah!
I found Rachael Price about a month ago....And I'll never be the same Again!! Amazing!!
An incredibly powerful and beautiful version of this 50 year old song. She is phenomenal.
What I love about this vid: The band is instantly sooo tight, you get to see her leave, you get to see her get washed away into "the zone". Musicians talk about trying to get into "the zone". It's like a trance. The whole band goes there - feeding off each other. It's so easy to drift into this vid. To me, this is the zone where God given talent gets taken over by God - like He's using these instruments - and the whole thing goes from just a song to a river of sound and emotion, where you just leave this place and get washed away. Thanks for this!
She has been gifted with a wonderful voice. Lots of grief. Worked hard to get this sound.
❤️
My god. Rachel Price, Chris Thile and a legendary Blind Faith/Steve Winwood classic. What a way to highlight a Sunday evening.
I want to punch whoever made Rachel pay her dues, while also thankful they did.
@@eugenekearney6971 Practice makes perfect. It shows.
@@chriszelez7970 got to pay your dues if you want to sing the blues
totally...a classic!!!
@@eugenekearney6971
Stop being silly
She will develop without your negative comments
Just think a little before you reply
I’m sorry there is no “valid point” for the thumbs down... this is music plain and simple people....enjoy the magic and everything that it brings to our lives ...laugh...cry.....be amazed and “come down from your throne”
Wow, that was a beautiful comment, Lee. You are definitely one who listens and takes the meaning of the song to heart. Thank you for your insight and wit!
Cher Comer ....thanks so much for that....I just don’t understand how someone can’t be moved by this...music makes me dream while I’m wide awake
@@AcousticOne If you want to dream while you're wide awake [and who doesn't? :^) ], I attach a song by Tom Petty when his band was named Mudcrutch. The name of the song is Crystal River. It has a tempo straight out of The Grateful Dead, and a recurring riff reminiscent of one found in The Doors' This Is The End. Here's Crystal River... enjoy! th-cam.com/video/V4gXHBxBKew/w-d-xo.html&start_radio=1
Yeah, WTF?
Methinks the thumbsdown comes from two places. The first is from mental children who get off on pushing that button for some reason. The second is from people who have a very particular orthodox idea of how a song should sound. If you don't play it like they heard it on the radio, they don't like it. I think one of the things that makes this a great song is that it's so full of room to make it your own. Search this site and you will find a hundred covers of this tune with everything from full stage orchestration to one guy with a guitar. That's one thing that makes a song a classic.
My goodness, Brittany Haas' fiddle is the icing on a perfect musical cake.
This song is one of the best..she has one of the best voices in the world 🌎 So beautiful ❤️ amazing
wow----absolutely amazing----60 years old and I have been listening to this song for a long time----never heard it from Rachael----unreal.
Very good but ... BUT! ... try Ellen McIlwaine *****
I have you beat ----- 70 years old & love this revival
I'm Seventy and still feel the same!
robert s. campbell I actually did go visit her. I regretted it. Come on dude really? Why do u post. I tried. It was terrible.
robert s. campbell I actually did go visit her. I regretted it. Come on dude really? Why do u post. I tried. It was terrible. I know I’m hated for saying. Boo hoo
This song never gets old. Love hearing other versions.
Dearest Rachel: This is a song my musician buddies and I used to sing/play at "woodsies" around the campfire in Illinois when we were off the road. One of those pickers "Nick" just passed from cancer/COVID and your voice sang him into heaven. AND I found this on my Birthday-best gift ever!
💙☝🙏
Condolences on your loss
He died of cancer. Stop this Covid nonsense. These hospitals are creating a pandemic for money at our expense.
@JJ Robb No, *you* stop this nonsense of denial.
Covid nonsense indeed. Run along and get your vacvac.
This is the best cover that I have heard of this song.
She is ridiculously talented. This song just settles right down into my bones....
Check out rikki lee jones equally talented but a little up tempo but also amazing talented I like her late 70’s stuff the best
Nicely put.
If there is such a thing as a perfect singer, I think this woman is it.
Well done & on my list.
This is a really difficult cover. Kudos
I'm sitting here trying to wrap my head around the fact that 20 people gave this a thumbs down. Rachael could sing a Trump tweet and make it sound good.
Good job libturd
Dmk Dmk Oh my goodness. Your inventive word choice, coupled with your snappy wit, tells me that we could be the best of friends.
I wouldn't down vote it, but I don't think she particularly embodies the song. It sounds good, but there's more to landing it than that. There's a pain component, a sense of damage, that doesn't come across. The beauty in this song is not in its prettiness, it's an expression of something that has little to do with any kind of beauty at all. That's where this version misses. As I said, I wouldn't down vote it, but I can understand why someone would.
She could make it sound good but she could never make it sound smart.
You make a valid point. Thank you for taking the time to offer up a thoughtful response. @@BruceRichardsonMusic
Blind Faith. Best thing Clapton ever did and with Steve. Wished they had done more than one album.
Yes, listen to the live Electric version of this by Blind Faith ..Ric Grech also played Violin and the Bass.
just note: Steve wrote this song, Clapton had the honour to be part of if.
@@DYNODRUM
Do what you like.... my favorite Blind Faith.
Check out the live dvd and cd Steve and Eric did just few years ago
My favorite Steve Winwood song. It's a great song, and many of the covers of it are awesome too, including this one which works despite being a strange mix of bluegrass and rock styles. I'm more impressed with the band than by Rachael Price's voice, although she's good in this too.
One of my all-time favorite songs. Usually I prefer the original on songs I like, but this one is tied for first place with that of Blind Faith. I expect the cymbal crashes, but even without them, it's so beautiful.
splendid rendition!!!
The most haunting song ever. Just so moving.
This is a truly stunning performance of a master's song. It's made it to my memorial list. Yeah, I'm old. I want to weep for joy every time I hear this song.
Damn. Thanks for that.
She nailed it
Instant goosebump music from the very first note she hit....beautiful.
Ditto!
She’s so modest, beautiful voice. I don’t believe he needed to sing with her, she’s s standout.
I agree. He could sing with her and it would be alright but as a background singer, not as an 'equal in the mix' lead. It's distracting.
Man, that's some nice harmony!
This is really good. It's got something new and something old.
I really liked "Live from Here" with Chris Thile. Rachael Price had several great performances on that show. And there were many other wonderful performances on Live from Here. Then Covid came and there wasn't anything live from anywhere. I wish this show would make a comeback....
Holy Wow! Her voice!
Her voice is all I need
Beautiful rendition of a great number.
never knew Rachael did this one!!!! shame most of humanity have never heard this gal sing.
Truly one of the great vocalists I've ever heard. She slays on everything she sings. And many people haven't heard of her to their great loss.
yep
Great cover... Nov. 2, 2020... the night before election, I'm tired of election news and politics in general.
Saw her do a Jefferson Airplane tribute with Hot Tuna at Lock’n a few years back, the fact that they picked her to sing Grace Slick’s parts says all you need to know about her reputation.
Lake street Dive, her main gig, is one of the great live bands playing today, brimming with talent
Talking about great song covers: Check out lake street Dive’s live cover of Bohemian Rhapsody on TH-cam
I'm 67 this takes me back to a great time . Beautiful !
Simply Beautiful!
I like how she articulates each word of the song
And not in a stuffy scholarly way. In a warm brandy by the fire way. Sublime.
Rachael Price deserves more recognition for her talents, her vocals are awesome, I only found her on TH-cam but she should be doing major albums and tours something like that. She seems like a candidate for the rock and roll hall of fame, seriously crawl around TH-cam and you will see what I am talking about
Check out her new album, it's awesome
Impeccable. I have always loved her jazz stuff too.
Her voice is killer but his background fits hers perfectly
This is one of the most faith-based Rock songs ever written. THE PRICE IS RIGHT. This Rachael chick takes me to the Cross.
Best cover of this song ever.
This song is Immortal
What a beautiful Angel
Anything Rachael Price sings comes to life. Saw Lake Street Dive in Jackson, MS about eight years ago, and I'm a big fan of their art. Just awesome.
Holy cow!! I still have my original Blind Faith LP. Been listening to this song for over 50 years and this is brilliant!
She is amazing ..... the drums are astounding .... marvelous....
Omg so so good ❤❤❤❤
Awesome Rachell and harmonies are tight.
Wow! My first time listening to Rachel. What a pleasant discovery and what amazing pipes!
She’s with Lake Street Dive and everything she does is this good.
Wish this program was still on NPR .
Ya know, it's more than the voice, the style, the song, the back-up. It's everything and how it came together right now.
Gorgeous
I wake up in the middle of the night with this version at the corners of my mind!!
Just superb!!
As close to perfection as you can get to the original Blind Faith version! I'm impressed!
This song and your voice reminded me of when it got me through that damn Vietnam era. It helped us live through it to the more peaceful times that followed. Thank you.
This band has such a good sound🇺🇸
Legendary!!
She has a beautiful voice for this classic song!
Excellent song & refreshing to hear it in mandolin.
That voice ... what a gift.
This is a wonderful version. The band captures the great rhythm in the spirit, and wow, the singer really has it.
Almost 50 years old and still relevant...From a time when music had beauty..
How in the hell am I only finding out about this group in 2020? I hate you 2020!!! These guys are awesome!
that makes no sense , you should love 2020!!!
Outstanding !!
never get tired of this woman's voice
60 yo musician...wow..the petfect woman , voice for this song. Masterpiece match!! Imo..not possible to improve on this cut of this song...touched my soul....james blooze, new orleans...2019
Awesome!
I keep watching this video. Rachel and the band are incomparable.
This is my favorite song of ALL time. And a great version by Rachael Price that reminds me of the bootleg Bonnie Raitt version. Love this, and how would anyone give a thumbs down, beyond me.
People give it a thumbs down because they originally heard the Blind Faith version and love that. They compare the two and maybe voting on which one they like best instead of whether they like this version. They are narrow-minded and can't appreciate any other version despite the talent in this video. I love this rendition as well.
They really played this well--I wonder if Winwoods heard it?
This is good . . . but, this is better ~ th-cam.com/video/wHVCXKjZ-BY/w-d-xo.html
@@ootvoo Thanks for that. This is such a perfect tune. In a half century of listening, I've heard good versions and great ones. I've yet to hear a bad cover.
Always loved the Bonnie one. th-cam.com/video/x4tJiyU_gjY/w-d-xo.html here it is!
Rachel does an excellent job on this classic! I’m no voice coach, but I think she is one of the most pitch perfect vocalists out there!
Indeed. Saw LSD last summer and I was blown away. I have been following them since 2012.
steve would perk up and take note ,and he's one of the all time best
Susan tedeschi, karen carpenter, stevie nicks
Patty Griffin
Michael Collins and k d Lang 😀
WOW! What a sweet & Powerful voice! Hooked ... ^v^
I'm firmly convinced that Rachael can sing any song ever written and make it her own.
This young lady can literally sing anything. Amazing.
This lady just "kills it" every time! She makes all the covers her own, even better than the originals.
Saw Blind Faith in Vancouver 1969. Fantastic!
love how generous she is with her soul and voice
Blind Faith (Steve Winwood) brought this song into the world in the early 70s, this version is stunning. The song is haunting. If I had one song to choose for my desert Island, this is it.
She just knocks me out. Been doing this since she was 12 years old, and she just keeps getting better.
She sings this right down makes you feel good.
Bellissima version
Yea, she really is that good.
I've watched this so many times and love it.
I felt that
Thank you Paul.
Rachael has a voice that she uses like an instrument. She blends it masterfully with band.
.....gotta love her addiction to big, weird pants!
Pear shaped body, she’s accentuating what she’s got!
There are many versions of this great song on TH-cam. This is my favorite.
she can make absolutely ANY song sound better than the original
Great to hear this song again. Rachel more than does it justice and has a lot of soul in her voice.
Excellent! The violin and mando give this an eerily haunting vibe.
The mando was supressed...hes itching to go wild..
Better than steve windwood organ
Rachael has the perfect inflection for every cord. This band is so tight......listen to this at least once a week.
Gold ! Print it !
Great Version. Top.
