I found my snapon guy by asking the Mercedes dealership. I have a really good dealer now. He takes the time to log the serial number on EVERY item I buy. I also use the website for sales. I have used the warranty service from my dealer and online . Never an issue. I was able to replace all the slides and roll n locks for a older snapon box I gave my son I bought a Full Icon setup 72 plus the 56 with lockers and overheads. I was not happy with the draw depth so I decided to trade for a large Epic setup. My dealer gave me the price I paid for that on trade. I also make special orders. I am hoping that snapon will start to sell the foam inserts individually. I see so many available now and I have all the tools already. Thanks for the videos
Some people enjoy going on the tool trucks and look at new tools, maybe buy a few things, its very fun for some of us. Others are very negative about the tool trucks and say there ripping you off. Its all opinion based, some of us dont mind spending some money
I bought a new snap on box back in 95 or 96. Anyway after all these years some things are not working. The gas struts that hold up the top box lid died years ago and the drawer slides are stiff and a general pain in the ass. I have a ratchet that seized up a few years back, anyway, a call to snap on got my struts replaced, every drawer slide replaced and the ratchet replaced. It took a phone call and cost me nothing, not even shipping. What you get on the Snap-On truck is a lifetime warranty, a dealer that comes to you and gives you truck credit based on you having a job on his route. Yeah, tools are expensive but is price your only consideration?
Hello again, Doc Thank you for another Great Video 👍 I think how you approach the dealer matters a lot. For me to find the specific tool fit my job. I went on all the tool trucks. It was a Mac dealer that had what I was looking for. I always find if I am friendly whoever I am approaching will be the same. Everyone has a story that they want to tell. I guess another way to put it is don't be a jerk. You won't get too far. Again thank you 👌
I had a flappy 1/4 inch ratchet anvil on a new tool. The driver rebuilt the head with a new kit and it was still flappy so he just got me a new one. I believe it was a flex head which was more expensive but he swapped it out with no charge. I could’ve waited another week or two for a direct replacement but he was very accommodating and reassured me that customer satisfaction is number one.
I was at a coffee shop parking lot and there was a Snap On truck parked with the owner inside. I just walked up and asked him about a specific tool and he was happy to help me out.
A co-workers husband has a SO truck. I asked if he could swap out a few screwdrivers I've bought over the years. "No problem!" I handed off the screwdrivers to my co-worker - now 6 months later I'm now begging to just get back my old ones, never mind replacement ones.
All of my Snap On purchases have been on line as I haven’t found a truck nearby (I’ve seen one on the road but never at a good time to follow until they stopped). Anyway, a few items arrived in poor shape. Jaws that don’t line up or an incredibly stiff hinge joint. They have always done a pretty good job of sending a replacement. The one poor experience, and I don’t blame them, was with a 1/2” drive locking long handle flex head ratchet. The mechanism was so gritty that it was nothing short of unacceptable. Now that was a $290 ratchet so they asked I send it back before sending the replacement. Took a week and a half from when I received the bad one until had a good one. I guess I can’t complain, but here I am.
Same experiences, I wrote in a response to someone above. I bought a screwdriver set from them and they arrived with the plastic packaging ripped so they were tumbling around a bit in the box. Not only that, but they were absolutely filthy, covered in a thick, gritty substance that I then had to wipe off all of them. Never again, they only care about making money.
100% but know your prices. I was going to buy some used on ebay and they were priced so close to new I ended up buying from our route guy. Plus he's known to not love to warranty stuff if you haven't bought stuff from him.
Im no DIY guy as I work at a shop professionally, but all of your key points hold true even for shops. If you dont purchase often or bring back a bunch of warranties constantly they will likely stop coming around often as they arent making money. It also depends entirely on the dealer. My snap on dealer is fantastic now, our last guy would skip our shop and tell his boss we weren’t interested in purchasing from them anymore. Needless to say he got canned and our current guy is amazing. We have a mac guy in our area but he and my boss seem to have gotten into a disagreement many years ago so he refuses to stop at our shop. So keep a good relationship with your dealer. Also once they know what color you prefer or if you let them know you are looking for something but are waiting for once it goes on a deal they will bring you any tool of that color or let you know if that deal is happening.
My BIL had a SO franchise in the day... what a horrible existence; I could go on for hours. Also, don't be afraid to ask your guy about repossessions... some territories/routes end up with an abundance of those. For the record, in these parts, haven't even seen a truck around town in a decade or more.
I'd really love the SnapOn double box end XL flex head reversible ratcheting wrench set in metric and maybe standard. They are super nice albeit a little expensive.
Have you ordered special colors for ratchets/screwdrivers/picks before? Interested if your snap on guy is able to order colors previously available, but no longer on the online catalog. Thanks
Doc if you ever get over on the Clearwater Lewiston let me know there is a dealer that is oldschool he buys rite and sells rite and treats you rite 👍😎👍
I bought a pair of sidecutters 87CF that I bought cash from a truck around 2008. I used to hang around my buddies shop I wasn't a Truck regular. They were junk from the day I bought them to the point they will not even cut a zip tie because the hinge is so loose. I'm going to send Snap On an email and see what they say. Crazy to think they might not warranty a tool I legitimately bought on a truck because I don't have proof of purchase. We'll see
Snappy dealer in my area is terrible like pulling teeth to spend money. Corporate is awesome to deal with. Warrantied out a stainless topper for me that swelled. Prices are crazy but its a lifetime purchase unlike everything else in society
Let's just be honest Snap on tools is no different from Kirby vacuums, sure they might be quality products but as soon as you insert a sales person you're inserting unnecessary costs. There are vacuum that works better and cost less than Kirbys and there are tools that work as good or better than Snap On for a fraction of the price. I think one of the main appeal for Snap On owners is that they like overpaying because it gives them a sense of superiority especially because the career that tools are used in is generally menial.
I work construction and have met a few reps at various restaurants, the Mac dealer was the nicest so i buy from him couple times a month, i pay cash and have yet to pay sales tax.
Will Snap On online honor thier warranty from EBay tools that were bought new? There are sellers on Ebay that I would think have to be Snap On dealers based on thier amount of stock. I have bought several tools on EBay out of convenience and never once thought Snap On wouldn't back them up but now Im not so sure.
I was priced the 3 piece knipex sets, both pliers wrench and cobras over 300 each set. Compare that to amazon and that ill likely never need a quick warranty on them. I was like holy smokes what a mark up. Ill see my guy in 1hr and i have an order to pick up. I want a set of those "nickel" pliers but wife said i need to wait until next week....ugh the draw is real.
There is definitely a difference from a good tool to a cheap knock off im not a shop but do work on all my stuff and broken drivers or poor fitting sockets have cost me too much time got rid of them all replaced it with snap on and Mac haven’t had those things happen anymore also a company can make a copy but better believe they saved money somewhere to make it cheap in price
Dude, I seriously love your content so this isn't a dig on you in any way, but hearing all this is seriously making me NOT want to go on a truck. It sounds like a cult that hates outsiders. Better treatment if the dealer likes me? How bout if he's not a dick, I'll give him my business. I'm not some sht posting hater, this all just seems insane to me? I feel like THEY are lucky if we choose them. With all the quality tool options we have today, they should cater to us, not the other way around. K rant over😮💨
Yep. I already dislike Snap-On and have had crappy experiences with them in the past when purchasing from their online site. All of these rules of engagement makes me dislike them even more and just reinforces my decision to never buy from them.
Really depends on the relationship you have with that particular SnapOn dealer. Not just anyone will honor the SnapOn warranty..because THEY didn't sell it to you..they're not going to take a loss..because that's what it is to them unless you have a history of spending money with them
Most should but there is a handful of bad stuck of reps that definitely wouldn’t. It’s technically lifetime warranty for the ORIGINAL buyer so they don’t HAVE to do it…
for most average Americans, there’s no reason for you to get bent over on a snap on tool truck. if you need something go down to harbor freight and get it, otherwise you’re going to have take a loan out on your mortgage just to afford snap on tools. As a side note most snap on dealers are absolute snobbish jerkoffs who don’t like to warranty anything. they also act like you should THANK THEM for buying their extremely over priced tools. Just stay away from snap on.
I think it comes down to using common sense. Can you get away with buying a cheaper tool because you're only going to use something once a month. Or like the magnet, get 5 of them for the 25 dollars for one Blue Point. Thanks Doc
Just don't. If you want/need a tool, you'll find cheaper/better elsewhere. It only makes sense if you have a commercial account with a hefty quantity discount, and you can claim it all back as a tax refund, or claim it on insurance if it gets stolen. It's like Jim Jones cult, nowadays.
@@cboyamg A lot of their production is overseas now. Snap-On markets itself as a US company when plenty of their stuff is made elsewhere. They can eat it, why have loyalty to them if they have none to us?
Snapon online may not warranty tools baughr off the truck? Seriously? If snapon don't want to warrant an item, seriously what is the point of paying the premium? Getting quick support for a broken tool is the only reason you buy snapon. Based on the snapon tools I've bought, they don't feel or work any better then cheaper brands
We need to see a toolbox tour doc

Is that Spanish punch made by Bahco I wonder?
