It all turned shit when the NF stared targeting football fans and the small but intimidating group of politically motivated racists turned the atmosphere toxic towards even our own players Paul Cannoville and I stopped going for several years and I think those head hunters were part of that influx. Much as the environment was not conducive to woman and children football then was an outlet for the masses of working class people. I remember us ( Ipswich) going to the Abbey stadium in the mid to late 80s in midweek cup game.After the game around 150 of us went walkies into the town centre of Cambridge.Also a smaller group around 100 Cambridge had shadowed us into town.The old bill however wrapped Ipswich up ,but not until a few punch ups occurred in the street .Cambridge didn't come at us seriously and after a while melted away .However fair play to them because a few of their guys stood firm even while taking a bit of a slap.Cambridge had a game firm out that night and I think if the numbers had of been more even we would have been in trouble.Spent most of the night in a holding pen in Cambridge nick before being dumped off ( around 30 of us ) on the early milk train to Colchester and told to not fu kng come back by Cambridge old bill😅 I rate Cambridge as s tidy little mob ,and more game than those tarts Southend.

The season this happened Cambridge dropped down from the second division to the third, rumours of this incident spread like Chinese whispers and by the time it got to us at Millwall it had been exaggerated to Cambridge had a decent mob and done Chelsea, not only did they drop down but Millwalls first away game of the season was none other than Cambridge,. We took mob of about 2000 up there expecting to meet this Cambridge firm, turned out was just a few of them and they had been banged up. With a massive mob and nothing to do. there was a bit of a rampage down the local high street that ended up with jewellery shop getting looted and all sorts.
Chelsea cut up nufc at the farmers hmm maybe so but why the need for the blades from CFC they've already got a big rep for agro so surely didn't need to be tooled up for a ruck with a few Geordies unless they were worried about getting it put on them
