Nigel was awarded an honorary degree from a community college in Missouri. It wasn't for music, though. He received it for his contributions to gynecology.
i saw them in 1992 in orlando florida at the bob carr theater. i traveled all the way to see them at the last minute and i t was the greatest day of my life.
The ferrett bit killed me, oh my god. Plus Nigel saying "I lost money, does that count?" Still hilarious after all these years. And finding tiny jockeys for tiny race horses. Tufnel is the daftest rocker around and I love it.
Actually Christopher Guest (Nigel) holds duel American and British citizenship. Not only that but he's a member of the House of Lords or something like that; not sure exactly how it works but he holds a British peerage as the 5th Baron Hayden-Guest.
Totally, most Americans that do an English accent well tend to get little things wrong but all of these are so convincing it’s weird hearing them speak in their natural voices!
"you've put us on the map. we looked awful on the map, but you put us there" "then you folded the map and squashed it" HAHAHAHA these guys are still as brilliant as always
Properly talented guys, amazing improvisers and actually very talented musicians too. The film (or the rockumentary) is old now, but still as funny and relevant as ever….shame it wasn’t recorded in Dobley…..😂
LOL there's a mattress store in the L.A. area which had a guy shouting that high-pitched note: "Or your mattress is freeeee!" They're actually referring to that very commercial.
Every step along the way of the story of this band was played perfectly...This looks like one of those reunion things for charity...Nigel and David still trying to maintain the sort of 80's heyday look; Derek has decided to take the "elder statesman" route and quit dying his hair...Equal mix of excitement to be back together, then remembering why they used to get on each other's nerves...Heh...
As splendid as ever. And I always find Michael McKean and his Dave St Hubbins funnier than 'genius' Christopher Guest and his Tufnel. "The Albert Hall....that dump!" LOL
The funny part is the fact that some people don't think it's funny and some still think it's real and it is in a way also musicians think it's sad enough to cry? ( not all of us) and also I just learned "David" was "Lenny" on Laverne and Shirley 🤣
thought Tap were going into 'Whatever You Want' there......this is Spinal Tap at their best - they HAVE to be interviewed as if they are a real, serious thing otherwise it doesn't quite work. It may be 3 'characters', but when they are on, they ARE those characters. They are the gift that keeps on giving.......
Good point keef71, some commentators here are saying the interviewers don't get it,that its all going over their head when actually they are playing along.
it's similar to when Sasha Baron Cohen did the TODAY show and other talk shows. He didn't break character as Borat and the anchors had to "go with it" as if he wasn't an act
I'm curious if some of the inspiration for the "Horrible Bosses" movie dialogue was inspired by Spinal Tap's brilliance in interviews. (i.e. three comedians talking over one another, finishing their lines, etc).
Some of the greatest improvisational comedians ever to join together. LOVE these blokes.
TOO FUNNY!!!!
The "blokes" are Americans too.
@@jonathanj.7344 Two Americans and one Canadian.
@@jonathanj.7344 Bloke means man not englishman.
Foundation for ferrets. Brilliant!
The older they get the funnier they look in those wigs. It's a win win for them.
lol, and they haven't lost a single hair over the years.
They did actually Grey Nigels wig...
I literally only realised they wore wigs yesterday... I'm heartbroken.
Lol true!
Wait! Those are wigs?
I love how Derek’s wigs get greyer over the years
"..that`s what atoms do..." Derek Smalls, bass legend
“Have you done a lot of charity work?”
“Not intentionally.”
😂😂😂
Every time these guys get interviewed, I wonder first if it gonna be a REAL interview or a sequel of the documentary 😋
Michael McKean is a legend.
That absolutely cracked me up!!!!!
Derek actually says low key "we are charity work"
XD
"Have you done much charity work in the past?"
"Not intentionally."
BestCanKeanRob2
Go back to your tedious footbollocks that is fixed by Chinese mafia for hundreds of millions like all big sports, derp.
BestCanKeanRob2 your a genius
BestCanKeanRob2 gee ...ya think so? Bloody wanker!
"your"...what?@@boogievan875
"It's a big huge problem, that needs to be dealt with....Saturday!" LOL!
I love how the interviewer reacts to the crazy statements like they are perfectly reasonable. She is brilliant.
She sure is.
well, if she can pretend global warming is for real...
Agreed 😊
Which crazy statements ?
Christopher Guest is hilarious even when he is not saying a word😂
Yes!
"I think it's a personal decision....." Almost died laughing at that. Bless ya, Nigel. XD
Yeah, that one did have some teeth in it! 😅
All these guys are great and Christopher Guest is a genius...
I love the fact that their hairstyles are all exactly the same as they were in 1982.
Christopher Guest should get a major role in an epic hollywood drama. He is incredible in comedy and serious roles.
The male host was losing it when Nigel was talking about racing miniature ponies, as was I, lol.
The ferrett bit killed me, oh my god. Plus Nigel saying "I lost money, does that count?" Still hilarious after all these years. And finding tiny jockeys for tiny race horses. Tufnel is the daftest rocker around and I love it.
The straight faces -- OMG! GENIUS!
" In a sense that's charity" I've laughed for 5 minutes
Jesus it's so easy to forget these guys are American. Class act.
Actually Christopher Guest (Nigel) holds duel American and British citizenship. Not only that but he's a member of the House of Lords or something like that; not sure exactly how it works but he holds a British peerage as the 5th Baron Hayden-Guest.
@@andrewfutterman3346 Yes, but he was born and raised in the US, and his natural voice is with an American accent.
Totally, most Americans that do an English accent well tend to get little things wrong but all of these are so convincing it’s weird hearing them speak in their natural voices!
“We could give Crowded House a run for their money.” Top line.
"you've put us on the map. we looked awful on the map, but you put us there"
"then you folded the map and squashed it"
HAHAHAHA these guys are still as brilliant as always
Their English accents are amazing
omfg how did chris keep such a straight face saying those things... he is SO good
"Thank you all very much indeed, Spinal Tarp!"
Properly talented guys, amazing improvisers and actually very talented musicians too. The film (or the rockumentary) is old now, but still as funny and relevant as ever….shame it wasn’t recorded in Dobley…..😂
We love the silliness! these dudes are the greatest! We love 'em!!!

"Global warming... If it weren't happening it wouldn't matter at all." - David St. Hubbins
As splendid as ever. And I always find Michael McKean and his Dave St Hubbins funnier than 'genius' Christopher Guest and his Tufnel. "The Albert Hall....that dump!" LOL
Michael McKean plays his character straight. Straight for a while then throws an underhanded joke at the end. He never goes for a quick, easy joke.
I LOVE Nigel ^_^ He just looks so... adorably vacant.
They're like some cadaverous crossover between Status Quo and Hawkwind.
"...can't find silks small enough for the ferrets so they can be jockeys on my miniature ponies..." genius, I tell you!
God that was the icing on the cake he did that so fast wow
Maybe Barbie clothes would work.
Not only are they rock royalty but fashion icons as well. 😊
LE: Have you done much charity work?
DSH: Not intentionally
Genius!
The best English accents ever.
😍😁🇬🇧🇺🇸👍🎤🎶🎚️🎛️
It's amazing how spot on they are with the British accent- hilarious -they were actually all really good musicians
It is so funny seeing them rehearse.
"Then you folded the map and squashed it." HAHAHA!!!
Michael McKean shows what a tremendous actor he is on "Better Call Saul." He is fantastic in his role as Saul's brother.
Very true. He was amazing in that show.
He's the patron saint of footwear no matter what he's in.
HE DEFECATED THROUGH A SUNROOF.
A personal decision. By whom ... love their minds.
I loved St Hubbins’ rehearsal outfit, got that hot-at-the-time Kangol tracksuit
Can I raise a practical question are we gonna play Stonehenge tonight?
We need Spinal Tap back. Perhaps they can guide the world back to some sort of sanity through their musical profundity.
Spinal Tap are incredible.......
Legends in their own lunchtime!
Come back on Spinal Tap! 😄
Is it, "lunch time is money" or "meme is money❓"
I thought the presenters actually handled this well-they let them talk and let them be funny, and the dude obviously found them amusing
Every time these guys get interviewed, I wonder first if it gonna be a REAL interview or a sequel of the documentary 😋
They still got it!....wait this was 14 years ago.
Lost it at "We could give Crowded House a run for their money..."
Harry and Chistopher are absolute comedic GODS.
Spinal Tap the best ever.
Have you done much charity work?
David: "Not intentionally..." haha!
Awesome 😊
"thanks for that....that's a real insight" 😅😅😅
Albert Lee is happy that his model guitar is used in the film ❤
The funny part is the fact that some people don't think it's funny and some still think it's real and it is in a way also musicians think it's sad enough to cry? ( not all of us) and also I just learned "David" was "Lenny" on Laverne and Shirley 🤣
These guys are better than most real life bands
Tiny horses... need mini jockeys
Haha "cant find silks small enough for the ferrets" lmfao!
"Warmer Than Hell" never WAS available as a single. :-/ We had to wait two years for it!
thought Tap were going into 'Whatever You Want' there......this is Spinal Tap at their best - they HAVE to be interviewed as if they are a real, serious thing otherwise it doesn't quite work. Well said! For a lifetime and in so many brilliant projects together!
I saw them in Detroit 1969 at the Grande Ballroom. They opened for the Stooges and the MC5. The 5 were recording their first album for Elektra.
I commented the same when I first saw it on the Live Earth show. I love the gauge too- on the other video you can see it works...
Lol fucking Nigel makes me crack up
PERFECT accent :)
"i lost money! does that count?" hhhhh sooo funny ;]
not intentionally..no
"have you done much charity work?"
"not intentionally."
haha!
The amount od pickups on Nigel's guitar. 10 maybe lol
epic!
I love how Derek plays a 5-string bass, but is it environmentally friendly?
youandwhosearmy?
The fifth string helps him play up to 11.
Always carry a spare.
All five strings are environmentally friendly, including the fifth.
'I think it's a personal decision.'
The interviewer did not mention "Sto-nenge" once. Very disappointed.
It utterly blows my mind every time I realise that David St Hubbins is Chuck MacGill in Better Call Saul
I reckon he's just pretending to be American. I grew up with him English.
And 'Lenny' in Laverne & Shirley
Spinal Tap forever ☺️☺️
Musky odor in the BBC hallways , Trying to not break character 3:43
Christopher Guest is starting to morph into Martin Freeman.
i love that Robert Wyatt shirt
I love when improvisers refuse to “yes, and”
Where’s the drummer? I am afraid to ask.
Sniff the glove…..this is fantastic.😀
Just love em been a big part of my life ,funny as fuck
0:54 9-coil pickup on Nigel's guitar
How many pickups does he need on that guitar!?
11!
it's similar to when Sasha Baron Cohen did the TODAY show and other talk shows. He didn't break character as Borat and the anchors had to "go with it" as if he wasn't an act
Lmao!
Nigel's guitar is incredible.
The rehearsal had drumming but no drummer.
Principal Skinner, Smithers, Mr Burns and that Black Doctor.
also a few others
I like the way the interviewers go along with the act. Is Harry Shearer wearing a grey wig or is that his hair???
@EuchridEucrow1 LOL ! I almost missed that one. Gotta watch it again. Good idea to put in the time when a phrase was said , btw. FYI ! Cheers !
So funnnnny…..!!!!!!
"global warming is a personal decision" LOL XD
