    Making use of the th-cam.com/users/postUgkxcJ22tnHH9l1vjdIdEIG27iOG55P7LXI8 reconditioning plan, I just saved 2 auto batteries from being completely junked. The guides were very simple to follow. I wish I would have found this years ago! You may use the guide to recondition any battery type

    Real quick. I just had this problem. I watch this video and replace the relay fuse and still had the drain. Then I pulled the number 7 fuse under the hood and the problem went away but I lost alot functionality in my 2007 mini van. So I found a diagram and seen all that was connected to fuse numbers 7. I seen that the power sliding doors was. So I got inside of the van and pulled both door fuses. The next morning my van started right up.

      My 2005 odyssey also have electrical drain recently,found out #7 fuse have 4.2mv drop when key off. Trace all the way to rear right junction box behind right trim panel then to the tailgate door lock latch, pull the connector from latch it drop to 0.8mv. Now I need to figure out from the latch eclectic contact point or the micro switch!

      at that point your doors were fully manual only though, right? (after fuse 7 pulled)

    What's fascinating to me is that something like this likely goes unnoticed to the average person. That you picked an Odyssey is great for me. I had an AC Relay go a few years ago. Then, again, a year ago. The dealer thought that was odd. I replaced the battery last summer when it went dead for no apparent reason. In fact, it had me thinking that I'd jumped that van a few times without understanding why. The battery guy said hot weather will push a low battery over the edge. Well, it's only four months later and the van has been sitting unused for the last six weeks as we've traveled and used our other car. And now the battery has drained down. I never heard of this parasitic draw. But, it's bringing all these disparate points - accumulated over years - together. Thank you. Well done and edited video.

    Buddy, I've been working on these blasted things since I was a kiddo in the 60s. Helping dad ya know, electrical problems have always eluded me. Once in a while I'd get lucky but this helped me quite a bit. It was always easier for dad to fix it without me in the way and when it was fixed he didn't always want to explain to me what he did. I have adhd and questions and questions. I'm sure it drove him nuts. I do have a volt meter which I love playing with so I'm off to the car to do some checking. Thanks again always full of good info.

    my wife’s Honda 2016 CRV which we bought new has 32K miles on it. We replaced the original battery in 2021. That’s pretty good for a battery to last five years. But that battery went dead in December 2022, so we replaced it, that battery went dead after the car sat for three days. So it’s not the battery. The alternator puts out 14.5 V when the car is idling, so it’s not the alternator..
    with a negative terminal disconnected from the battery and an amp meter put in line, the parasitic draw is slightly less than half an amp..Some “experts “on TH-cam claim that that is average/normal draw. but the battery still goes dead even though I had it fully charged reading 13.2 V after disconnecting the two amp battery charger, after the battery sits for a while, the reading is 12.6 V. But if the battery sits overnight here in Western Pennsylvania where the temperature goes down below freezing overnight, I checked the battery after three days of not driving the car, it was down to 11.2 V….
    so I went on TH-cam to hear what other Honda owners have done to repair parasitic draw issues.
    it turns out that there are hundreds of Honda car owners from all years and all models of Honda that have parasitic draw issues. It is not a common part that is causing this. On some cars it’s a power door lock that went bad, on other cars it’s the air conditioner compressor clutch, on other cars it’s the power window motor..
    I have yet to see the same part fell on two cars..
    it seems like it’s the control center for all of these electrical devices that is the issue.. if that is the problem I believe there should be a recall. Because it’s almost unbelievable the number of Hondas that are having parasitic draw problems. an issue like this from Honda is unbelievable. It seems that it’s never the same component that’s failing, but they do have a control center that is a common denominator..
    this is not an isolated uncommon problem, this is a widespread problem if the number of TH-camrs that have posted their experience with this issue on TH-cam..
    I am going to contact the attorney generals office in Pennsylvania about this. This should be investigated and a possible recall should be issued

    Thank you for the excellent video! I took the Omron relay out and put it back in again, and the car started up perfectly fine! Saved me from having to spend $100+ on a new battery. Wife is happy. :)

    Well done Brain! Chasing a draw right now on my wifes 2007. I have an intermittent click but power locks dont work and sometimes the dash lights come on when the key is out of the ignition. Such a bummer

    I had an Omron relay stick in the OFF position for my MDX. The AC would NOT come ON. This was in the middle of the summer during a long trip. In a pinch, I think I swapped the relay for the foglight or high beam relay until I could get a replacement.
    I was working on a MINI Cooper the other day as well - the front windshield washers worked but the rear didn't, even though they both use the same impeller motor (just spin in the opposite direction). Turns out that was a relay problem also. The problem moves when you swap the relays. A swift whack on a tabletop unstuck the relay for a few days until a replacement could be ordered.

    I had the same issue with my Odyssey 2008 this year (2020), i looked at this vid and instead of changing the relay, I made sure the heating system and AC were turned to off on the digital screen before i turned off the car. This workaround seems to have solve my problem. It used to die in 2 days. Now, its been 3 weeks I did not use my car and it starts with no chokes at all. Battery seem to have maintain its full charge. Now, I make sure everything electrical (including radio) is turned to off when leaving the car.

    Great video and awesome tips! I am currently going back and forth with a shop that said they fixed my parasitic draw 3 times now on my wifes 07 odyssey. I really wish I actually tried to do some research before I dropped it off there, I would have likely found this video. Anyways I have the van back now and I'm going to go check this now. I also think the way you asked if you earned my subscription is great. You did by the way. It turns me off when someone asks for you to like and subscribe first thing in a video before "earning it".

    Thanks for this awesome video. As another way to diagnose if the AC relay is the cause of the battery drain, would it be ok to remove the relay, jump the battery, and run the car to charge the battery. Then let the car sit for a couple of days to see if the battery drains again? I'll be without AC, but that's OK since it's only a test. I just want to make sure it won't harm the car in anyway. Or is it a no no to run the car with a missing relay?

    Here is one thing to check the fuel door sensor relay! Ok I found it but wasn't easy to find. I just eliminated it all good now. The relay is a saftey feature when fuel door open no sliding door, just might keep it in mind,

    I had the exact issue and it was the same relay switch. I kept hearing that clicking whenever I applied the terminal. Thank you so much. I think this will fix it. God bless you. I changed my starter because I thought that was the issue

    Good video, in my van the problem was an aftermarket Sirius modules. After removing it and connecting the OEM xm everything is good 30mA draw

    Stuck A/C relay will keep the compressor on all the time. might cause the a/c system to go overpressure and blow out the safety plug on the compressor.

    Thanks for the tear down and explanation of the function and failure of the relay. Now I know there is a high current B+ Constant contact, a low current Input Switch contact (Say from a sensor or switch), a Ground, and a high current B+ Switched that looks like the B+ Constant that goes directly to the accessory. :) This will help me fix the 2006 Odyssey I am buying, so thank you!.

    Hi Brian,
    also experienced this on my Honda Civic. My compressor clutch relay was stuck open, because it was all green and oxidized inside. OMRON only seems to produce crap these days. Clickers in logitech mice: OMRON, and they are crap. Relays in Cars: OMRON, they are crap. Door switches in cars: OMRON, they are crap.
    I threw out all OMRON components out of my Fuse boxes and replaced them with others. Some things can really get damaged by sticking relays, I don't wanna buy a fuel pump or something because of these little things...

    Are you just making and breaking the battery ground wire in the very beginning there? Could you just do that with the terminal itself or do you need to put all those other leads on there?

    My odyssey does a same problem for past whole month.Repalced 3 batteries,change the battery connectors, contacts,alternators fine and starter is good too.It sit for more then 2 days and battery completely drains???so r u sure if its 100 percent ac fuse problem???

    Very nice tips..
    My garage guy took out the main circuit fuse, so this doesn't happen.
    But it stopped working all components like clock, radio, power locks, power windows, lights. It's not good.

    I did the alternator test where you remove the battery cables while the engine is running and the engine shut off on my 2012 Odyssey. Is that confirmed alternator issue or could my problem be the relay as well. I also hear constant clicking when cables attached.

    Man… I have a 2013 Odyssey bought used and noticed that after leaving Van sitting for like 1.5 - 2 days… that the battery completely dies and a brand new battery was out in when purchased. Everything with battery and alternator is fine and took it to Honda to do parasitic drain test and they said it was fine… also had them leave it there for 2 nights without turning it on and the volts are still reading normal levels and then they turned it on this morning and it started fine….. WTF… of course it works when they are trying to figure it out. Our dome lights don’t work (and the bulbs are not the issue… tech tried to put new bulbs in and still not working and also cig lighter doesn’t work)
    Basically just wasted $190 to have Honda do nothing haha but really hoping it’s a fuse issue or relay like this.
    Any advice?

    If instrument cluster light stays on and climate control light stays on and battery is draining the orange wire on the back of radio is the problem drain will be on rdo batt fuse

    the problem you have was not the relay,this relay worked fine,power staying on to it caused the issue,a switch perhaps..or short to ground somewhere

      Yes it does it came on my dashed n wen I changed everything that I could possibly think it was it was still there ubtell I changed my alternator but I now know I have this problem that Brian is showing in his video I'm going to the dealer and let them tested as he showed and my problems will be solved it can be very stressful

    My 2009 Honda Odyssey air conditioning stopped working, but I think the clutch relay is stuck and my battery is draining overnight. Can I just remove the relay, as I'm not going to fix the air conditioning compressor?

    Funny, my computer mouse bragged it had omron switches I believe,first I heard of the brand. Course those are microswitches and not relays, but on the nerdier computer tech sites, people replace their mouse switches...

    So u have a 2006 Honda odessy n yes it is a common thing with these vans n they all does this I have changed everything until looking @ ur video only 2 learn it's something as small as this I don't have the little tool to test the fuses for the problem so I guess I will go to the dealer and let them test it for me thanks for your video it was a big help and stress off of my shoulders I did subscribe to your video thanks again

    Hey how do you go about doing a Drawl test on a dual battery system like in most diesels?

      Wallie2004 Diesel batteries are wired in Parallel. That means the whole system is still only 12V. The second battery is only there to increase amperage for starting the high compression diesel engine. So you disconnect both negative terminals and put your meter between the negative terminal and battery on the primary battery.

    Yes. I have battery wire-blue corrosion and I can't figure out what to do. Drains battery over time. Do I replace the wire, or do I replace the clamp?

    This video was spot on thank you. Just curious though @2:15 after the relay is put back in you say there is no more clicking. If the relay is stuck why doesn't it click anymore once the relay is put back in? Did the relay become unstuck?

      He swapped one of the other exact relays out to see if the other one clicked. It didn't so he confirmed a bad relay

    Lol they were cheap so I replaced all three hoping that was my problem. Nope. Had to replace R door latch assembly to get rid of drain. I now have four perfectly fine relays lol extra

      @@scottlanier5133 inside the door lock.I can unlock but when the key jammed,it dosent go to the lock position on the driver side making my pcm think its unlocked.i must hit the unlock but from inside the car ..then get out and use the fob to lock it.without doing this the car would never sound the horn when i hit the lock button from the fob thus making the security system think the roor is open and will drain after 8 to 12 hrs.Do u understand? Im sure it sounds a bit confusing

      +Jonathan Buckler he was connecting and disconnecting the negative battery cable with the jumper leads. Basically clip one onto the battery terminal and one onto the negative cable. When you touch the other ends together, you are reconnecting the battery to the vehicle. Hope this helps.

      Doug is correct. the only reason he used the electrical outlet, which looks like ti takes a light bulb to me, is because it has a large enough clamp to connect to the battery. He is just using the small jumper wires to complete the current path from the negative battery terminal to the disconnected battery cable. you could do the same thing by touching the cable to the negative battery post, but the small leads give him the ability to put the meter in the circuit.

    I have the same vehicle, 2007 Honda Odysses. Parasitic draw of 0.400Amps (400mA). I pull out each fuse and relay and the draw never dropped. Any ideas what to do next?

    Hi brian I see your video and I find it my Radio fuce 10AMP drain my 2015 HONDA ODYSSEY battery around A week so i will take it out that fuce and that problem is over.but how can I solve the problem right now my back up camra and radio not working due to I remove 10AMP fuce.

    Hello. My honda odyssey 2006 reads .36 milliamps. I try the paralistic test pulled out all the fuses one at a time and never found the draw. Any suggestions?

    i recently did a trace and found out it is fuse 7 under driver side which link to a bunch of control box on the 08 odyssey touring
    i am wondering if you have any tips to trace them before tearing down sliding doors, navi, rear trunk lid, everywhere

    confused about the connection at the battery, you went passed that part without details... where are the shocket leads going, what are the clips "leads" in your hand going to and why

    Nice- usually I see a diode to prevent the arc at the contacts, seems Honda went with a resistor, I guess the resistor was nuked . Did you happen to measure the resistor ?

      Steve Rob Great question! I liked your curiosity and I had thought about it. I just went out and did. It' was 1.084K ohms. That seemed odd and pretty low. There's an angel hair pair of wires that bypass it below so I ripped it out and tested it again... 1.084K ohms. I went to this website to check what the resistor SHOULD be→ www.digikey.com/en/resources/conversion-calculators/conversion-calculator-resistor-color-code-4-band The result is that it's a 1.1K ohm ±5% carbon film resistor and it's apparently good! So there you go. Also the angel hair wires were making contact and clean (not burned at all).

      briansmobile1 The colors represent 1 1 2 5% 1,100 +/- 5% ohm resistor - not a standard number. Sure it wasn't brown black red which would make it 1K ohms? (very common)
      Here's more than most want to know:
      On most resistors - the first 2 colors represent the first 2 numbers of the resistance. The third band is the multiplier or how many zeros to add to the first 2 numbers. The fourth band is the tolerance. Other bands represent mean time before failure, hours of use etc.
      0 black tolerances (plus or minus)
      1 brown gold 5%
      2 red silver 10%
      3 orange no color 20%
      4 yellow
      5 green
      6 blue
      7 violet
      8 gray
      9 white
      Mnemonic for color code (usually another word is used for rage).
      bad boys rage our young girls but violet gives willingly
      0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

      D Nelson Thanks for the lesson. That's cool. As I said, the Ω on the meter was 1,084 ohms which rounds up to 1,100 ohms with two significant digits (bands). And I even went outside to see if the bands were double brown- seemed off to me too. They were.

    I've had a heck of a time finding parasitic drains before! I've heard it takes the computers a while to clear all voltages. And when checking across fuses you can actually activate a good circuit so that it will show a drain the way it's suppose to in it's activated state and then you have to wait for the computer again to clear all voltages. So how to know if it's shorted or activating properly?

      Me too. Unfortunately I don't get the support he does. Thanks for the tip though. His channel is amazing for that kind of detail. I've been on several trips with him and watched him in action and been in a couple videos he shot. He's the real deal when it comes to taking the time needed to make that happen. No one comes close... for a reason.

      deepsquat600 Back in that day, it was what people did with puppies. Especially stray ones. Though typically it was done by drowning in a remote creek or river in a bag- not by public execution via A/C electrocution. Stray puppies were quite affordable in that day too.

    Hey Brian, the front brakes on my Subaru Forester make squeeky sound when I am near a stop. Any idea how to fix it? I tried putting teflon lube around the brake pads but with no effect. I might add that the pads are brand new.

    Nice video thanks. My problem is a bit different and hoping you could help me out with your knowledge. 2011 Honda CRv, we found that the battery draw is coming from under the hood fuse socket # 23, "Back Up". It is a 10A fuse. Drawing about .265 and draining the battery in about 17 hours. Be grateful for some help.
