How To Lubricate Honda Odyssey Sliding Doors DIY! (2000-2015)

  • This is a detailed, step-by-step tutorial video showing you exactly how to lubricate the sliding side doors on a Honda Odyssey.
    For best results, use WD40 White Lithium: amzn.to/2BEQKuy
    Over time, dirt, grime and debris build up in the tracks of the doors. Eventually, mechanical failure will occur if the door tracks aren't periodically lubricated. I'd recommend an annual lubrication.

    Am an uber driver and i use the door 20 times a day on my 2009 Honda Odyssey. When the door started acting up i used the white lithium and it works great now. the door closes all the way and i didn't have to spend $ on a mechanic. The Honda dealership wanted $300 for new rollers. I spend $6 on the grease and got the job done. Thank you

    Do not use white lith on those rubber door gaskets! Use silicone spray or grease or armor all. And keep the grit out of that bottom slider... blow it out with compressed air before you grease it and make sure you get the axle of the big steel wheel. It supports most of the weight of the door.

    I found recently (thanks Reddit) that if you get a triple-beep at the start of door closing, that it's likely the pinch sensor on the front edge of the door, it's probably bent/dent/stuck a little bit. I spent an hour lubing my door to no avail, then found out about the pinch sensor and it took 30 seconds to fix by hand. I must have bumped it while loading my rooftop box.

    Everything is great. Except that I would not use white lithium grease on rubber seals because it deteriorates the rubber. You need something with silicone or good old 303 aerospace protectant. Also, white lithium grease attracts dust and dirt. I like to use Tri-Flow lubricant instead.

    I was told by dealer NOT to grease because the grease holds dirt and grit and makes the rollers break down faster. I constantly struggle with these doors, especially in ice and snow. I can't believe Honda did not change or improve this design from 2005-2010..

    • @bertofehr
      @bertofehr 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Grease will attract more crud for sure. Silicone spray is a better alternative. And it won't harm the rubber like grease can. Silicone won't last as long as grease, but it honestly takes me 2 minutes per door on my wife's 2013 odyssey. I do it 3 times per year & the doors still operate like new. Hope this helps.

The white lithium grease broke down the adhesive between the thin metal strip that the roller rides along and the metal body piece below. Now that thin strip is loose and makes a crackling sound every time I open and shut my door....

      When the slider is all the way open grab onto the middle, in the rear, and give a strong tug straight away from the car. If the door comes toward you, more than say one-quarter inch, your "center roller" is shot. The rollers are only vinyl and, unfortunately, crack off need to be replaced periodically. When they crack off, only the post that the roller rotates around is left, it is metal, and it grinds and binds throughout the track. This video may help the longevity, I'm not certain. The repair for the broken center roller can be found on youtube. The repair is easy if don't mind losing the "power" door and much more involved if you want to keep that functionality. Been there twice with my 2005.

      @BHYYDY I'm not a vehicle mechanic I just work on my family's vehicles to save us money so do whatever your gonna do at your own risk. You'll need tools to remove the panel (I used a skinny flat blade screw-driver) and needle nose pliers to connect the air-plane cable to the rolling door hinge. So it might take you some time but have patience. If not you'll break thing's. You'll have to start removing the back panel with the cup holders, once you do that you'll see a motor with the air plane wires running out of it. To give you more slack look for 2 white clips that are visible. You'll need to slide those white clips up. You need to pinch the back of the clip so it'll slide forward giving you more slack on the cables. I hope this helps and sorry for the late response. If you need anymore help let me know.

    I got the Odyssey '05, 2 months ago.. one of the sliding doors didn't open from outside, but it did from inside with switch that it's at the driver's door and manually. Then the alarm started to sound, and I had to turn the power switch off (left side of the steering wheelwheel) and it was ok for a while, although windows or sliding doors wouldn't open. Then a light at the dashing board started to indicate a symbol that shows an air bag that disappears by itself, as well as another lights indicating that the sliding doors are open (alternatively, but they don't seem to be open). The lights disappeared by themselves, sometimes with a soft buzzing noise. Now the power switch doesn't work and the door that used to work doesn't want to open either with the control or manually. In the beginning, I changed the battery from the remote control because it had (and still has sometimes) problems locking the door remotely. I don't know what to do... I'm already spending money trying to fix the issue related to the check engine light that turned on (code P0420- changing thermostat and sensor 02, which "it's stock due to the corrosion".. hopefully it won't be necessary to change the catalyst- mobil mechanic is doing the job), only about a month after I got the van.. I have only driven it about 20 times and already spent about $200. trying to fix one single thing 😢.. I won't be able to afford fixing it..It took me about 5 years of savings to be able to buy it. I have a child with many medical conditions, and we can't be risking getting sick by using public transportation. I need advice, please 🙏..Thank you..

    Do not spray lubricant. Rollers are not supposed to slide, but roll on its internal bearing. By spraying lube you will cause grime, dirt to stick on the tracks. Just change the rollers, buy original because they last longer, and keep the tracks clean and DRY.
